by Haiden Hibbert
Giving to others is in Lori Mark’s DNA. As a resident of North Webster, Lori plays a vital part in the community, serving the area’s food pantry (12 years and counting!) and Community Center as vice president. “I feel so blessed to be a part of the North Webster Community,” she said. “To be able to serve with kind, compassionate, giving people who want to make a difference in their community is truly what makes North Webster so special.”

Lori with fellow volunteers at the Food Pantry. LAKElife Magazine celebrates those who give of themselves to better our community—those who, day by day, make the world a better place.

Lori Mark
Can you tell us about your experience with the North Webster Food Pantry?
I am part of a team of volunteers. The Pantry serves the residents of Tippecanoe Township and we depend solely on the generosity of our community. Every person involved with the pantry, be it a volunteer or a member of the board of directors, is respectful and compassionate to the needs of our clients.

We were told you recently went ‘above-andbeyond’ to help the Community Center find a new executive director. How did you balance all your responsibilities during this time?
I am fortunate to be a part of a board that wants nothing more than for the North Webster Community Center to remain strong and thrive for years to come. Every board member attended meetings, interviews, volunteered their time to take shifts in order to find our new executive director. The board also felt it was important to help support our new director while she became familiar with her new position. As a ‘retired stay-at-home mom,’ I just had more time during the day to help in the office. As for balance? Ha! My family and The Food Pantry board all pitched in to help cover other responsibilities where I needed assistance. This community ALWAYS comes together.

When you're not working, what are you doing for fun?
I’m likely spending time with my family, and watching my grandkids. I also love to read, crochet, bike, hike, and play pickleball.
What do you love about Lake Tippecanoe?
I love the different seasons on the lake. I love taking evening boat rides with friends and family, grassy creek cruises with friends, and watching my grandkids swimming and fishing in the summer. I enjoy watching the migrating birds and listening to the loons call in the evenings as they travel through the area in both spring and fall. I even like winter on the lake when, after a long cold season, the ice starts to turn gray and one day it is completely gone! Then it’s time to start the fun all over again.
Do you know a community steward who we should learn more about? Great! Email us at sue@lakelifemagazine.com.
