Do something almost impossible

Madagascar bound Mansers

First, it was Riaan Manser, alone and unaided… cycling the entire perimeter of the African continent, then circumnavigating Madagascar in a kayak and similarly around Iceland in a double kayak, adding two more incredible world firsts to his name.

He then met his adventure partner for life, Vasti. Together, they broke world records through their adventures; from a world-first ocean row - Africa to North America, and then earning another Guinness World Record during a subsequent ocean crossingthe fastest mid-Pacific row from California to Hawaii.

And now comes - Sailing Family Manser - with the introduction of their two young sons, James aged 5 and Samuel aged 2, to a world of exploration on their newly refurbished Muira 31-foot sailboat!

“We had just bought the boat and James asked me what it will do for us?” says Manser. My answer: “Take us anywhere in the world “ to which James confidently replied: “So, you mean we can go eat Chinese noodles in China?” This is the essence of what Sailing Manser is about.

With vast experience on their ocean rowing boat, they opted for a more family-friendly boat with the intention to explore the world, but first they need to find their sailing “sea-legs.” The maiden voyage will see them set off from Simonstown and make their way along the South African coast stopping in Mossel Bay, East London, Durban and Richards Bay.

In Richards Bay they will do final checks and stock the boat with food and all they will need on the open ocean and then set sail for Madagascar, the fourth-largest island in the world. With Manser’s new children’s book coming out in July 2023, themed around his circumnavigation of Madagascar, it is only fitting that their voyage will see them sail these waters - but this time as a family.

They might not be heading to China - yet, but the Manser family are ready for this epic family adventure. Doing what we all dream of doing – taking the bold step to live out that dream.

Dive into the

at the Plett Ocean Festival

The 2023 Plett Ocean Festival, now in its second year, is scheduled to take place from 30 June - 9 July 2023 in Plettenberg Bay. One of the highlights of the festival is the three-day Marine Science Symposium, which will be held at the iconic Beacon Isle Resort from 30 June - 2 July 2023.

The festival offers a unique opportunity to explore marine conservation, sustainability, coastal exploration, and enjoy sunny days on the water. It takes advantage of Plett’s attractive winter attributes, such as the presence of abundant marine life, including southern right and humpback whales, during the winter months. Following its successful launch in 2022, the festival aims

wonders

of

the ocean

to continue fostering conversations around citizen science, inclusivity, and Plett’s reputation as a destination for ocean-lovers and marine conservation. This recognition led to Plett being selected as a candidate Whale Heritage Site.

The Beacon Island, known for its breath-taking ocean views and stunning sea lounge perched above the bay’s rocks and waves, provides the perfect setting for the symposium. Here, experts in various oceanic fields will come together to share their knowledge and engage in discussions. Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a series of sessions focused on marine mammals, seabirds, sharks, marine life, and inspiring lessons from the ocean. The symposium will also tackle important topics such as the sustainability of boat-based whale watching, the challenges faced by migrating whales, spatial planning for marine protected areas, and the significance of diversity in ocean representation.

In addition to the symposium, the Plett Ocean Festival will feature a range of fun and family-friendly activities that capture the essence of Plett. These include rocky shore excursions, scuba diving, snorkeling, collaborations with Nature’s Valley Trust and Open Plan Pictures to screen the captivating movie “Whale Rider,” and a marine educational program designed for young learners.

New big 5 private game reserve opens in the Klein Karoo

May 2023 marks the opening of Mont Eco, a stunning private game reserve situated in the Klein Karoo region. Mont Eco spans an impressive 6,500 hectares, offering a unique and malaria-free environment. Located just 25 km outside the town of Montagu, this remarkable reserve offers visitors a quintessential African wildlife experience. The allure of immersing oneself in the bush and witnessing the marvels of nature attracts millions of people from around the globe, as it offers both pleasure and privilege.

What sets this reserve apart is its location within the Cape floral kingdom, encompassing three distinct biomes: Nama Karoo, Succulent Karoo, and Fynbos. As a result, Mont Eco is home to a diverse array of succulent plant species, adding to its ecological significance.

True to its name, Mont Eco places a strong emphasis on sustainability. The reserve has been rehabilitated and aims to provide an off-grid experience for its guests. In addition to a wide variety of wildlife, visitors can also revel in the vast open plains, majestic mountains, rugged rock formations, and tranquil riverbeds that define the area.

Through a meticulous re-introduction program based on extensive research into historical animal species in the region, Mont Eco proudly boasts not only the iconic Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo—but also rare Karoo species such as the Brown hyena, aardvark, eland, oryx, and klipspringer.

Reimagined iconic building meets major travel trend

Cape Town’s skyline is dominated by a remarkable building that has now been redesigned to cater to the changing needs of travellers. One Thibault Square, formerly known as the LG Building, stands tall as a modernist skyscraper. It has been transformed into an aparthotel, offering stylish studio and one-bedroom apartments for rent. The apartments boast breath-taking views of the city, Table Bay harbour, the Atlantic Ocean, Robben Island, and Table Mountain. Situated on the 28th floor, it offers some of the highest accommodation in Cape Town, providing unparalleled views.

These spacious suites at One Thibault are available for short or long stays, accommodating the growing demand from both corporate and leisure travellers visiting Cape Town. The rise of the aparthotel concept has been instrumental in meeting the evolving preferences of travellers. Sean Cleary-Le Grange and Kobie Le Grange, the owners and founders of ITC Hospitality Group, explain that travellers now seek flexibility and convenience, combining the benefits of a hotel setting with the option of independent, apartment-style living. Guests enjoy access to hotel services, while having the choice to use fully-equipped kitchens and stateof-the-art amenities such as Smart TVs and uncapped fibre Wi-Fi. This trend aligns with the desire for more comfortable and upscale accommodations.

The demand for aparthotels in Cape Town is further fuelled by the influx of professionals relocating to the city, known as “semigration,” as well as business travellers seeking a blend of work and leisure experiences, known as “bleisure” travellers. The aparthotel concept serves these diverse needs, offering an affordable and spacious alternative to traditional accommodations.

The transformation of One Thibault, a prominent feature in Cape Town’s cityscape, marks a new chapter for the building. It now features 270 deluxe and premium studios, as well as luxury one-bedroom suites, available for short-term or long-term rentals, even extending to a month or more. Additionally, the aparthotel is unaffected by load-shedding and is conveniently situated near Cape Town’s financial district, a short distance from popular attractions such as the CTICC, V&A Waterfront, and Cape Quarter.

The evolution of One Thibault into a trendy aparthotel brings a fresh life to a Cape Town icon, offering travellers a modern and flexible accommodation option with stunning views and convenient amenities.

Karl Bremer

First Western Cape hospital with gold status

The stroke unit at Karl Bremer Hospital in the Western Cape is garnering recognition for its exceptional contribution to stroke care. Hypertension, known as high blood pressure, stands as one of the leading global causes of disease and mortality, often resulting in strokes, heart disease, and other complications.

Brackengate Business Park

City builds new electricity switching station

The City Energy Directorate’s new R145 million electricity switching station in Morgen Gronde, Brackenfell is making steady progress towards completion. The new 132kV switching station enables the currently constrained networks in the surrounding Bellville and Oakdale areas to be upgraded. It is expected to be completed and operational by December 2023.

The Morgen Gronde electricity switching station in the Brackengate Business Park is a 132kV station and is built in proximity to the Eskom electricity substation in the area. This R145 million switching station will enable much needed upgrades to the currently constrained networks in the surrounding areas of Bellville and Oakdale. It will assist in enabling reliable supply to residents, businesses and a number of large power users in Brackenfell. The construction on site started in early 2021.

In a recent announcement, the stroke care unit achieved the esteemed gold status in this year’s World Stroke Organisation (WSO) Angels Awards and became the first healthcare facility in the Western Cape to receive this distinguished recognition. The gold status was conferred to the Hospital due to its active participation in the Angels Initiative, an initiative established by the WSO with a focus on enhancing stroke care and treatment for patients within the province. The Angels Initiative bestowed this honour upon Karl Bremer’s stroke unit for its outstanding performance, which includes providing valuable data to facilitate future research and identifying areas for improvement in the treatment of stroke patients.

Dr. De Vries Basson, Head of Internal Medicine at Karl Bremer, expressed the hospital’s motivation for joining the program, emphasizing their commitment to empowering staff members and delivering high-quality stroke care. Dr. Basson highlighted the primary objective of the Angels Initiative, which aims to assist hospitals in becoming “stroke ready” and providing improved stroke care to all individuals who seek treatment.

As Karl Bremer Hospital’s stroke unit continues to raise the bar in stroke care, their achievements serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the healthcare community, reinforcing the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance stroke treatment and ultimately save lives.

This is an example of the City’s commitment to providing reliable and adequate electricity supply and investing in the electricity needs of a growing metro. The City will continue to invest in its critical electricity infrastructure that will provide reliable supply and services to residents and businesses across the metro.

| Tygerberg at forefront of surgical training

The future of advanced surgical operations undoubtedly lies in technology, and increasingly in using robotics for complicated surgical procedures. Therefore, it was a big moment for the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) when, in February 2022, the first operation using the newly acquired da Vinci Xi robot was performed at Tygerberg Hospital. Since then, dozens more operations have been successfully completed using this highly sophisticated system.

The da Vinci Xi is the most advanced surgical robot in Africa and one of only a few such robots in use on the African continent. It allows surgeons to operate remotely, using four dexterous “arms”, and is controlled in real time via an immersive 3D console. Tygerberg’s acquisition of the da Vinci Xi robot means that public sector patients have access to the best surgical technology available anywhere in the world.

In tandem with acquiring the robot, the FMHS developed a robotics training programme, with the aim of upskilling hospital surgeons and senior trainees in the use of modern surgical systems across multiple disciplines.

Walking into Henri’s, you’ll be greeted by the owner, Pierre and his staff, who will treat you like guests in our own home. Henri’s combines an inspired menu with a casually sophisticated setting in a heritage house conveniently situated on Somerset West Main Road.

We also welcome larger groups, our top floor has been renovated and can be used for private functions. Our inviting, comfortable dining room is the perfect place to enjoy a great meal.

Our menu can be described as comfort food with a modern global influence. We are well known for our aged grass-fed beef as well as the freshest local seafood. Alongside our à la carte menu, we offer a light lunch menu during the day and also have a kiddies menu. We also serve homemade, thin based pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven.

Excellent Reviews

Training relating to the robot consists of three phases: firstly, developing basic coordination and skills; then in-service training on how to use the robot; and lastly hands-on surgical training.

Dr Tim Forgan, colorectal surgeon at Tygerberg Hospital and a lecturer at the FMHS, said the availability of the robot offers a valuable opportunity to show how a state hospital can function at a very high level. The system is being used across multiple platforms – in general surgery, urology, and gynaecology – offering wideranging procedures.

Red Tape Reduction unit saves Western Cape economy R1.85 billion

Between May 2019 and September 2022, the Western Cape Government’s red tape reduction and ease of doing business interventions resulted in a saving of R1.85 billion to the Western Cape economy.

The interventions, implemented by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism’s Red Tape Reduction Unit (RTRU), and assessed by an internal analysis, realised the whopping R1.85 billion savings over the last three and a half years. The Quarterly Labour Force Survey data showed 62 000 new jobs were created in the Western Cape during the first quarter of 2023.

In addition to the financial savings achieved, the Red Tape Reduction Case Management System recorded a total of 519 cases in the 2022/2023 financial year, with a resolution rate of 93%.

The RTRU approaches reducing red tape, thereby making it easier to do business and create jobs by: Ensuring an effective and efficient Business e-Helpmail Support service to receive requests from the citizens and businesses for assistance; Proactively identifying legislation and regulatory processes that represent barriers to business, or the efficient delivery of services; Promoting a culture of making it easier to do business; and Designing interventions based on trend analysis reporting via the Business Helpline Support service to address systemic issues that need change.

Akkedisberg Boerdery launches its first wine SOUTHERN TREASURES

Pinotage 2021

At the foot of the southernmost mountain range in Africa, a group of twenty Akkedisberg vineyard workers set up their Akkedisberg Boerdery in 2013 – a company with a trust as shareholders and beneficiaries. They entered into a 30-year lease-agreement with Raka Wines for a 16 hectares portion of land at a nominal fee.

The excitement is palpable in the fynbos sea air on the well-known wine farm Raka, between Caledon and Stanford, in the Western Cape. It is on Wednesday 10 May 2023 at the Raka Wine Tasting venue, that twenty members of Akkedisberg, launched their first wine – Southern Treasures Pinotage 2021.

“This is a story about a respected and well-known family business, the Dreyer family, a dedicated mentor who, together with their workers, embarked on a journey to create and build a dream.” This, according to Wendy Petersen, Executive Manager of the SA Wine Industry Transformation Unit (SAWITU). “The story behind this new brand is a community living in harmony with what nature gave them and how there is a mutual appreciation. Now, a hidden treasure from the Klein River Valley is in a bottle for everyone to enjoy and appreciate.”

The brand name “Southern Treasures” pays homage to the people who made this empowerment project possible. According to Petersen, the workers of Akkedisberg, and the owners of Raka have now transformed this enterprise into 16 hectares of hope, inspiring the whole community.

QUALITY WINE WITH ITS HEART IN THE RIGHT PLACE

Led by their mentor Josef Dreyer and their two directors, Mariëtte Moos and Christel Moses, Akkedisberg’s proud group of men and women are now launching their first barrel-aged Southern Treasures Pinotage 2021, made from grapes harvested in their own vineyards.

The 37-year-old Josef Dreyer grew up on the farm Raka, studied at Elsenburg, and took over the winemaking from his father in 2007. From an early age, this awardwinning winemaker witnessed how his father adapted to the changing times by replacing citrus with vineyards on the farm, constructing a cellar, and initiating an empowerment project in the fishing industry.

“I know the people,” says Dreyer. “We work together, and have a healthy relationship. That is why it was important to create and establish this opportunity for them in agriculture.”

Dreyer emphasizes that the main aim of the project is to empower workers by transferring skills to them. “Raka has no stake in this project as these are two separate entities. I would not be able to afford such a project on my own. Capital is important, and that’s where the Western Cape as well as the national government come in – they gave most of the money, with the financial contribution, mentorship, and guidance that SAWITU provides. My contribution is my time,

and my love for our community. Yet, the most important requirement is someone who wants to drive the project himself, and take ownership of it. People like Mariëtte Moos and Christel Moses”.

FROM PICKING FLOWERS AND SELLING NAARTJIES TO DIRECTORSHIP

Mariëtte Moos 48 years old and a director of Akkedisberg, grew up in the Boland and, so to speak, in the vineyard. Her husband, Andrew Moos, is Josef’s left and right hand in the cellar. The Moos family has been living and working on Raka for two decades.

“I really love the vineyard,” says Moos, who did not complete high school, but took up full-time employment at the age of 16, in the vineyard in Wellington. On her life journey to owning her own vineyard, she worked on fynbos export farms in the Overberg, sold naartjies “next to the road” when her four children were young, and continues to work in Raka’s vineyards to this day.

GROWING AND LEARNING WITH THE PROJECT

Christel Moses (43) not only works in Raka’s tasting room, assisting with administration, deliveries, and wine tastings, but she also has been a director of Akkedisberg since 2022. She grew up on the farm Rietpoel near Riviersonderend, and attended High School in Caledon. Although she did not complete Matric, she is computer literate, and has received a farm worker award. Prior to joining Raka in 2015, she was employed at Springfontein Wine Estate, where she received wine tasting and cellar training - even completed Vinpro’s SKOP course. She lives in Stanford with her mother and her 17-year-old daughter.

“It is amazing how Raka’s owners have done everything in their power to support us. Piet Dreyer felt he wanted to walk this path with his workers, and Josef, the winemaker, is our mentor, and works hand in hand with us, even assisting us with financial advice,” says Moses.

INVEST IN A RARE TREASURE

Moses is excited that their product is now available on the shelves where everyone can see it. Only a limited number of 5033 bottles of the Southern Treasure Pinotage 2021 have been released. “The seller door price is R300.00 per bottle, with Raka Wine Estate located Southeast of Hermanus, just a ‘short’ distance from Stellenbosch. Come meet the people of Akkedisberg, and help make their story a well-received South African story,” Piet Dreyer says, tongue in cheek.

EAT OUT WOOLWORTHS RESTAURANT AWARDS KICK OFF

The rigorous selection process that culminates in the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards event in November has begun. There’s a reason this iconic event has become South Africa’s premier annual restaurant awards, and it all has to do with meticulous planning, an impeccable judging methodology, and a constant re-evaluation to make sure the judging process is as thorough as possible. In 2023, Woolworths returns as a partner and headline sponsor, whose commitment to quality ingredients and sustainability aligns beautifully with what the Eat Out brand and its celebrated awards stand for.

Once again, the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards will applaud and recognise excellence in the South African restaurant industry, with its Eat Out Star rating system that was introduced in 2022 and enthusiastically received by both restaurants and patrons as the best way to evaluate the nation’s best restaurants. It is these One, Two, and Three Eat Out Star winners, along with a number of prestigious Special Awards (including Restaurant and Chef of the Year), that will be recognised at the awards event in November after an exhaustive six-month judging process.

The Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards play a crucial role in the upliftment and empowerment of the restaurant industry and serve as a platform where chefs can share ideas, innovate and inspire one another. Not only do the awards drive awareness around the talent of the industry, but they are a conduit for driving restaurants and chefs to innovate, create and achieve excellence. “With the 2023 awards season kicking off, we will be revealing our esteemed panel of judges and more exciting details in the coming months.”

CHEFS WAREHOUSE AT MAISON - FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE

In a remarkable twist of fate, the renowned Chefs Warehouse at MAISON restaurant in Franschhoek has been granted a new lease on life, all thanks to entrepreneurs Seb Ackerstaff and Jessie Verdonschot, the founders of the esteemed COCOON design brand. This development comes on the heels of the recent announcement of the impending closure of the restaurant, a mere two months ago. Seb and Jessie have taken the bold step of acquiring the MAISON estate, thereby breathing new life into the restaurant.

Several months ago, Liam Tomlin and David Schneider, the proprietors of Chefs Warehouse at MAISON, faced the difficult decision to permanently shutter the establishment, prompting an outpouring of support from its loyal patrons, who were determined to salvage this beloved culinary institution of the Cape. This news caught the attention of Seb and Jessie, long time admirers of the estate, who felt a deep-seated desire to safeguard its heritage and its people.

The new owners have a grand vision in mind for MAISON, “The restaurant will undergo a brief period of closure later this year in order for us to give the space a refreshed ambience ahead of the summer season. But Seb and I also have future plans in the works that will see a transformation of the restaurant, villa, and estate as a whole,” stated Jessie.

The forthcoming evolution promises to be nothing short of extraordinary, as COCOON’s visionary approach seamlessly merges with the culinary expertise and cherished traditions that have cemented the restaurant’s status as a beloved destination for food enthusiasts in the Winelands region.

Encouraging a love of reading, stories & books

The Franschhoek Literary Festival Schools Programme kicked off before the Franschhoek Literary Festival that took place in Franschhoek in May. Over the past 15 years, Franschhoek Reading, an initiative of the Franschhoek Literary Festival, made a significant investment in four primary schools in the Franschhoek area. From May 15 - 19 May the reading promotion was curated by the FLF Team and facilitated by the library facilitators at each school.

Franschhoek Reading had several objectives, including encouraging young people to use libraries, strengthening their appreciation for books and reading, increasing awareness of the joys of reading, exposing children to activities that promote a love of words, stories, and books, and transferring skills amongst educators and library facilitators.

Elitha van der Sandt, Franschhoek Literary Festival Director, commented, “It was an opportunity to connect learners to words, songs, play, and stories in a fun, non-intimidating way. One could not simply give a child a book and say it’s important to read. We needed to make them fall in love with words and stories. And where did they find these? In books.”

The Franschhoek Literary Festival Schools Programme, with the support of Franschhoek Reading, emphasized the crucial role of reading in the lives of young children. Through their investment and dedication, they fostered a love for literature that will continue to impact the children’s lives.

Is reading books still relevant in this day and Age?

Reading books is incredibly important in our lives, and it offers us a treasure trove of advantages. It’s not just about gaining knowledge and expanding our vocabulary; reading also sharpens our thinking skills and helps us understand others better. In today’s fast-paced world, where we’re bombarded with constant notifications and distractions from technology, reading a good book provides a much-needed break and a form of self-care.

Books have a unique power to transport us to different places and times. They expose us to diverse cultures and perspectives, fostering empathy and understanding. This is crucial in our increasingly interconnected world. Moreover, books offer an experience that digital media simply can’t replicate. The touch and smell of a book, the act of turning pages, and the ability to mark and highlight passages create a sensory delight that screens can’t match.

In conclusion, books are just as relevant now as they were centuries ago.

They are essential for learning, personal growth, and entertainment. While technology offers many resources, it can’t replace the joy of reading a good book. So, let’s embrace the magic of reading, explore new worlds, and reap the countless benefits that books offer. Start reading today, and embark on a lifelong journey of knowledge, imagination, and personal enrichment.

LEGO City becomes a canvas to create

Visitors to the V&A Waterfront’s main Centre will have likely done a double take as LEGO® City characters appeared to leap and even zip line from the walls in the brand’s latest digital out-of-home (OOH) advertising offering that brings the LEGO world to life.

The innovative 3D digital billboard forms part of the brand’s Your City, No Limits campaign and depicts a mash-up of various LEGO City scenes, characters, and features from across the range of LEGO City sets, designed using naked eye 3D image technology that creates a sensory illusion. V4GOOD, the creative agency responsible for the billboard’s design and execution, worked closely with VFX suppliers based in Los Angeles to bring the concept to life, with little turnaround time to spare.

Leanne Lombard, LEGO MEA Marketing Manager, says, “We wanted to stablish the cool factor into our LEGO City portfolio for LEGO South Africa with a strong connection to and engagement with kids and shoppers, and the LEGO City 3D billboard certainly achieves this, breaking through the marketing clutter, creating talkability and exciting kids and adults alike.

“With kids in control, each LEGO City becomes a canvas to create, play and live out stories from their imaginations. Each set offers iconic and easily decodable models anchored, empowering kids to create and shape their cities in their own ways.”

South Africa’s education system has suffered significant setbacks due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as highlighted by the recently released 2021 Progress in International Reading and Literacy Study (PIRLS) results. The country’s average PIRLS score plummeted from 320 in 2016 to 288 in 2021, indicating a substantial decline of 32 points. However, there is a glimmer of hope in the Western Cape, which achieved the highest score of 363, surpassing the national average by a staggering 75 points.

Recognizing the urgent need to address these learning losses, the Western Cape has taken decisive action. They have implemented the Western Cape Reading Strategy, an initiative aimed at strengthening reading performance across all grade levels. In the 2022/23 financial year, an allocation of R118 million has been made for a Foundation Phase reading program in three languages. This program includes training, the distribution of decodable readers, and anthologies for Grades 1 to 3. Furthermore, an additional allocation of R288 million over the next three financial years has been made to enhance this existing support.

Another key measure taken by the Western Cape is the decision to allocate an extra two hours per week for reading within the school day during the 3rd and 4th terms of 2022. The PIRLS results unequivocally indicate that the pandemic has undone years of educational progress, jeopardizing the futures of the youngest learners. To combat this dire situation, the Western Cape is investing an additional R1.2 billion into the #BackOnTrack program over the next three years. This program aims to improve learning outcomes across all phases, ensuring a brighter future for the children in the Western Cape.

Targeted support will be provided to 333 selected schools based on systemic test results, in addition to the 1,100 schools already receiving extra assistance in the Foundation Phase since 2022. This support will benefit approximately 126,000 learners, 8,980 teachers, and 28,000 parents, in addition to the existing participation of 310,000 learners and 10,000 teachers in the Foundation Phase.

“The collective efforts of all stakeholders are crucial in getting our children #BackOnTrack. Let us unite in prioritizing education and working towards a better future for the youth.”

RESIDENCY PROGRAMMES

CHANGING IN EUROPE

“The trouble is: you think you have time.” ………. Buddha

With many permanent residency programmes in Europe no longer available or changing their investment criteria to be more expensive, there are fewer and fewer options to consider.

Over the past few months we have seen the following substantial changes:

PORTUGAL has closed their GOLDEN VISA programme; GREECE has increased the minimum investment amount to €500,000; IRELAND has abolished the RESIDENCY by INVESTMENT scheme; MALTA requires proof of assets of at least €500,000 with at least €150,000 in financial assets; SPAIN is considering doubling the minimum investment amount or abolishing the programme altogether.

BUT…… CYPRUS is still open!

Effective 2 May 2023, Cyprus has made 2 changes to their Fast Track programme:

Unfortunately no longer do parents or parents-in-law of the main investor qualify, however the spouse and all dependent children up to age 25 do still qualify; and there is an increase in the proof of annual income for the main investor, the spouse and dependent children.

With the minimum investment remaining unchanged, this is the ONLY English-speaking country in Europe with an affordable and attractive programme that is still available!

There’s never been a better time to explore investing in Cyprus to realise your Plan B!

The three main benefits of investing in Cyprus are to secure permanent residency through property investment to realise a Plan B; the lifestyle options on offer and the peace of mind that Cyprus is a secure investment destination.

1. Your Plan B.

The permanent residency programme on offer in Cyprus is almost the only one available so is THE BEST in Europe. 2 generations in the same family line qualify, including dependent children up to age 25. Not only is the application process very quick – it takes just two months for residency to be approved – but the permanent residency status for the whole family is for life, the permit never expires nor needs to be renewed. Another benefit is that you do not need to live in Cyprus to retain your residency status. Cyprus permanent residents do have the right to apply for citizenship following their physical presence in the country for a number of years, so will in fact follow the naturalisation programme.

2. The lifestyle on offer

Being an ex-British colony, there is no language barrier – everyone speaks English and all the documentation is in English. Cyprus has a relaxed, stress-free lifestyle offering an ideal family environment.

3. A safe investment destination.

Cyprus has been voted one of the safest countries in the world; and offers a safe, solid environment in which to invest in real estate. Properties in Cyprus offer excellent value for money when compared to other European countries – especially homes right on or near to The Med.

In Cyprus as an ex-pat you are not restricted to buying only in Special Designated Areas (SDAs), nor are you prescribed to stay in the country every year to retain your residency. Being able to rent your property out has the real benefit where you can earn a decent Eurobased income. There is a high demand for both long-term rentals and short-term holiday lets. Not only will your asset generate income for you, but you have complete peace of mind that the property purchase is legitimate and your ownership is guaranteed.

Cypriot Realty – a proudly South African company in operation for more than 15 years with offices in South Africa and Cyprus – is your trusted partner to realise your Plan B in Europe.
