Welcome to our Wildlife Photography brochure Our collection of wildlife photography tours is going from strength to strength. We are delighted to be bringing you an even bigger and wider selection of trips than last year, with some of the very best professional wildlife photographers in the country.

Meet the Experts

Mark Carwardine

Mark is an award-winning writer, magazine columnist, widely published wildlife photographer, TV and radio broadcaster, zoologist and lecturer. He has an extensive collection of wildlife, nature and landscape photographs taken on all seven continents and in more than 100 countries.

Nick Garbutt

Nick has worked closely with Wildlife Worldwide to develop a series of wildlife photography trips that has expanded to what it is today. A two-time category winner in BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, Nick is the backbone of our photography programme.

Alex Hyde

Nick Mackman

An award-winning nature photographer and university lecturer in photography. Alex is widely known and highly acclaimed for his spectacular and innovative macro photography images that provide an entirely different perspective on the realm of plants, insects and other subject matter.

An award-winning ceramic sculptor, who gains inspiration from the full breadth of the animal kingdom whilst being out in the field. Many of her subjects are highly endangered and, in depicting them, she seeks to enlighten the viewer to their beauty, humour and tenderness.

Bret is an award-winning wildlife photographer and works in the marketing department at Wildlife Worldwide. Having taken a year out in Australia to pursue his passion for photography, Bret has helped us develop a range of new photography tours including Skomer Island and Finland.

A widely published, awardwinning wildlife writer and photographer, Chris specialises in reptiles and amphibians. He has led photographic trips to many locations including the Galapagos, the Falkland Islands, South East Asia, Southern Africa and Madagascar.

Ashley developed an interest in nature - and birds in particular - while growing up in the Warwickshire countryside, before setting up as a wildlife photographer in 2005. He now leads regular photographic and birding trips to The Gambia – his favourite destination.

Alice is a self-taught naturalist, freelance ecologist and professional wildlife photographer based in Cambridgeshire, but with a love of the French Alps in particular.

She especially enjoys macro photography and nature writing, as well as having contributed to an anthology for the Wildlife Trusts.

Slovenia

Brown Bear Photography Award-winning wildlife photographer Bret Charman has recently returned from Slovenia’s Dinaric Alps, where he went in search of European brown bear.

For some reason Slovenia doesn’t really seem to be on the tourism radar, and for the life of me I can’t work out why. At the same time … long may it continue! It must be one of Europe’s most beautiful countries, filled with towering peaks, idyllic lakes, vast tracts of forest, traditional wildflower meadows and an incredible network of caves.

I think it is safe to say that Slovenia is one of my favourite bear watching destinations. You can’t ask for more than great sightings, wonderful food and such stunning surrounds. So if you want to discover the delights of Slovenia for yourself, be sure to join me in 2018 for a photographic adventure.

In May of this year I was given the opportunity to explore the delights of the Dinaric Alps, in Slovenia’s south. There is a wealth of wildlife that calls these forested hills home, and one species in particular was the focus of my visit – the European brown bear. Slovenia is home to between 500 & 700 bears and it is the Notranjska and Kocevska regions, where I spent six fantastic days, photographing the bears from purpose-built hides.

As you sit in the hide, quietly waiting, your senses begin to heighten. With a limited view in the hides, it is your hearing that seems to go into overdrive. A small crack makes you sit bolt upright, alert to some movement somewhere in the surrounding trees. Is it a bear? I can’t see anything, but it must be a bear, surely? What seems like an hour passes by (in fact it is only about a minute), when a pair of ears appear from behind a slight rise in the ground. A young bear tentatively wanders in to view, pausing every few yards, alert to my presence in the hide. As the seconds tick by the bear relaxes and starts to go about its business. This was just the first night, in one of many hides, in which I saw a number of wonderful bears.
