Just From Nancy… Like all of us, I have had several opportunities in the

past to “just drop everything” and go HELP when a disaster hit somewhere in the world—but there was always something more important to do. Well, not this time, I had “had it” with my excuses! Not only did I want to go help in Baton Rouge after Katrina hit, but I felt it was my duty as a human being. So, my dear friend and exec assistant, Janelle Hynes and I packed our “camping gear” with enough food for 4 days consisting of protein bars, beef jerky, trail mix, apples, bananas and peanut butter. We lugged sleeping bags, change of underwear, flashlights, boots and socks, and jumped a plane before the crack of dawn. We flew to Houston where we rented a car, and drove to Baton Rouge to join a group of Scientology Volunteer Ministers who were running several shelters there. Once we arrived, it was both heart-wrenching and heart-warming to see so many good people out there helping the thousands of lost, displaced and desperate people. It was difficult to express in words what I experienced there as a volunteer, and so I wrote a personal accounting and sent it out to 500 friends. The response was overwhelming. Many simply acknowledged me for what I had done, but others requested to find out more about the volunteer minister program. Many asked if they could forward my letter to their mailing list. I said absolutely YES! With this kind of interest, I thought it would be a good idea to post the letter in its entirety, including some great pictures of my trip on my website to share with everyone, and maybe inspire a few people to do what their heart tells them next time a disaster hits—go and help! You will not regret one minute of it. Go to www.nancycartwright.com and check out the special letter about “My Trip to Baton Rouge.” Peace and brotherhood, Nancy

Guess who’s the New “Honorary Mayor” of the North Valley…?

Being sworn in by Rocky Delgadillo

That’s right, if you have not already guessed, it is that petite blonde in the top hat above being sworn in by the ever so charismatic LA City Attorney, Rocky Delgadillo. Nancy was offered this position by local Chamber president Wayne Adelstein and was sworn in before a well-fed gathering of over 30o members of the North Valley Chamber of Commerce. Nancy let the retiring mayor Barry Pascal off the civic hook but appointed him the Honorary Sheriff complete with a giant silver badge. A selection from Nancy’s ten proclamations include: change red stop signs to hot pink; evacuate CSUN of students so all the buildings can be remodeled to establish the largest gaming casino and monster truck racing track in the entire Milky Way! Now we’re talkin’, girlfriend! Oops, I mean “Mayor.” As part of her “Honorary Mayor” duties Nancy pens a monthly humorous column along with Barry Pascal. These tongue-in-cheek explorations of “current politics” shed light on the entertaining side of city hall and the goings-on in the Valley—the Big Valley that is. She has been cast in two brand new television series, Betsy’s Kindergarten Adventures, and Disney’s, The Replacements. BKA is an educational series produced by Corner Stone Pictures, and was created by Betsy herself, preschool teacher and author Betsy Quinn. Directed by award-winning animator Fred Crippen, BKA is an animated cartoon series for children ages 1-6. The Replacements is a “tweens” animated series that is loads of fun for the kids. Nancy is also in a new pilot called Zino The Rooster, and for all you Kim Possible fans, good news! Disney will be creating all brand new episodes of the animated cartoon hit series. HAPPY HOUSE APPEALS TO LEGISLATORS…

The greatest rising force in American politics is not a political party, a lobbying community or an ethnic group. It is women. In 2005, 22.5%, of the state legislators in the United States were women. Women hold 20.3%, of the 1,984 state senate seats and 23.3%, of the 5,411 state house seats. Since 1971, the number of women serving in state legislatures has increased more than four-fold. They are a power to be reckoned with. Nancy and Rose Goss, co-founders of Happy House, whose purpose is to help “build better families”, were invited to speak in front of these powerful women in Phoenix, Arizona at the annual conference in September. The mission of the NFWL is to provide vital resources to women leaders for leadership development and effective governing through conferences, effective seminars and networking at both the state and federal levels. In their speech, Nancy and Rose both stressed the importance of the family in the overall scheme of things, in society and in government, appealing to the women legislators who are also mothers. Nancy and Rose were also given a tour of the Tappas School for homeless children, run by Sandra Dowling, Superintendent of Maricopa County Schools. That evening, Nancy and Rose reciprocated by giving their Happy House seminar to a group of the women legislators along with several of the homeless families. Everyone walked away with a copy of their own The Way To Happiness booklet, which is a key part of the Happy House seminar.
