ABOUT

MOT CHARTER MOT Charter School serves students in grades K-12 on two campuses in Middletown, Delaware.

Our team provides an intellectually rigorous academic program in a warm, nurturing environment where children learn and flourish. Valuing the experience of the whole child, MOT Charter strives to model the responsibilities that come from being part of an interdependent, yet diverse community where open and honest communication helps build compassion, understanding, collaboration, integrity, and leadership.

COVERSTORY Four Houses, One Family

HOUSE TEAMS Inspired by The Ron Clark Academy, we implemented a House Team program at our K8 Academy campus. The House Team system provides opportunities for students to connect with other students and teachers across classes and grade levels with whom they may not normally interact.

There are many things our students can explore as they grow. In addition to middle school athletics, we have after-school activities, national junior honor society, and clubs. Our school is also active with local partners and organizations to encourage volunteer connections and community impact.

Some of the opportunities include: Student Government, BPA, TSA, Choir/Band, Math League, Girls on the Run & MORE!

ELEMENTARY

GRADES K-5 K-8 Academy students come ready to learn and leave ready to lead. By utilizing diverse teaching strategies and exposing students to a wide variety of educational experiences, each child participates in, understands, and enjoys learning. Well-rounded studies include a strong visual and performing arts program and exposure to a wide variety of foreign languages beginning in Kindergarten.

Within the elementary levels, collaborative learning is a great way for students to grow by socializing and working together to learn new information. Collaborative learning increases interpersonal skills and helps students experience success through meaningful and challenging tasks. Our teaching staff creates opportunities for students to collaborate with their peers and upper-grade-level mentors. Creating a culture of positive interpersonal experiences, in particular those designed to meet students' different interests, leads to learning benefits that help them achieve goals and succeed.

MOT Charter School also places significant emphasis on providing a positive, nurturing environment by emphasizing positive character traits throughout our school community. Each day we teach and model our values of respect, responsibility, motivation, kindness, and belief in yourself; ensuring that academic, cultural, and personal differences are accepted, valued and celebrated.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

GRADES 6-8 Students begin their path through adolescence during middle school. This is a critical time where personal identity and opinions are developed through questioning their environments within the larger world and testing levels of independence.

Our faculty believes that the partnership between the teacher, student and family is the foundation for leading this selfdiscovery. By supporting students in taking risks, making mistakes and learning from those life lessons, we work to teach both academics and how they can choose to be a positive impact within their world.

Students explore two years of engineering and applied business education at the middle school level.

HIGH SCHOOL

PATHWAYS Biotechnology

Engineering

This pathway examines the science & impact of current biotechnological issues; including agricultural, environmental, and medical application areas.

Using a mechanical engineering base, students explore a variety of engineering fields while learning team collaboration, communicating ideas, creating solutions, and soliciting feedback to evaluate work. Project management and design thinking are major outcomes for the pathway.

Marketing Computer Science Coding in various languages, such as Scratch, CSS, HTML, Python, and Java, is the foundation of this major. Graphics, applications, security, data management, and hardware are also explored.

Dance Our co-ed dance program focuses on building artistic athletes who can incorporate rhythm, movement, and expression seamlessly.

Studies are ballet-based but include lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and tap.

Digital Media Utilizing software including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere, students create original artwork targeted for the online digital audience.

Marketing exposes students to career-focused skills such as resume writing, research and entrepreneurship, while applying skills learned to market and manage school events and performances.

Music Instrumental performing groups include orchestra and band. Students learn music theory, composition, and arranging with opportunities to perform as soloists and ensembles.

Vocal students in performance choirs grow their ability to read melodic and rhythmic music, perform four part harmonies, and vocalize in an array of styles from classical to jazz to modern.

Groups perform with accompaniment and a capella.

Theatre With a focus on acting, students engage in a wide variety of theatre experiences, including playwriting, creating and producing live performances and critically reviewing theatrical productions.

Visual Arts Students grow their design skills through drawing, painting and sculpture. Coursework is designed to advance their abilities to express themselves and leave with a well rounded college art portfolio.
