The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School (PACyber) offers students in grades K-12 an alternative to traditional education. Multi-taskingmay be most associated with modernprofessionals,but many mighthave learned howtobalance multiple responsibilities at once during theirdaysasstudent-athletes

Student-athletes typically have alot on their plates Managingmultiple prioritiesatoncecan overwhelm anyone,especially youngstudent-athletes without much experiencehandlingsucha jugglingact. As anew school year begins, student-athletescan consider these strategies as they trytodotheir bestinthe classroom andonthe competitiveplaying fields

• Practice time management overthe summer. Summer vacation provides amuch-needed respite forall students, butitalsocan serve as atime managementtrial runfor student-athletes. Over the course of summer break,create aschedule of activities andallot acertain amount of time to devotetoeach. In thespirit of summer vacation,these activities need not be rigorous, butthe schedulecan laythe foundation for thehopefullysuccessful managementoftimethatwill be necessarywhen theschoolyearbegins.

• Take steps to avoid burnout. Burnoutcan affect student-athletesinthe classroomand on thefield. Work withparents, coaches andschoolstaff,including anutritionist if oneworks forthe school’s athletic department, to deviseameal planthatwill help to energizethe body andreduce injuryrisk. In addition, follow aconsistent sleepschedule that helps to overcome mental andphysical fatigue.Accordingto guidelines fromthe Centersfor DiseaseControland

Smartphonesensure distractions are nevertoo faraway, butstudent-athletescan take aproactive approach andturnoff appnotifications once anew school year andseasonbegins. In addition,pickaquiet homework/studyroominthe housewithout distractions likeatelevisionorthe humofoutside noise.

• Setacademic andathleticgoals Coaches typically establishgoals for players before theseasonand then againduringend-of-seasonexit interviews. Such goalscan help athletes maintain theirmotivation,and asimilar strategy canbeemployedinthe classroom. Parentsand student-athletes canmeetwith teachers to establishstudy goalstokeepthem striving toward academicachievement. Clearly definedgoals can improvestudent-athletes’focus, andthatcan make it easier to balance theirresponsibilities

Experience Elevates Success for Delval Graduates

DelawareValley University students from the class of 2022 reached a94.4% career success rate, which is defined as students who areemployed, in military service or in graduate school within one year of graduation.

Graduates from the class of 2022 arenow teaching environmental science, lab technicians, media producers, science technicians and public policy or working at major accounting firms.

Students from the School of Agribusiness and Environmental Sciences arepursuing careers as process and food safety scientists, as assistant superintendents at major golf clubs, working on cattle ranches, working

in the equine industry or attending veterinary school. In fact, the hands-on natureofanimal science programs starting in year one lead to success in veterinary school acceptance. From the graduating classes of 2021 and 2022, at least 25 students areattending veterinary school.
