Letters to the Editor W R I T ING LET T ER S TO T H E EDI TOR Each letter must be accompanied with the writer’s full name, address and phone number (name and suburb for publication only) and be limited to 300 words. Letters to be received via post or email (preferred option). The Editor has the right to limit the amount of words in each letter received and published letters are at the discretion of the Editor. Send your letters to news@themooraboolnews.com.au Dear Editor, There have been some amazing developments following your story on the Melton/Moorabool L2P Program (Cash splash for rural communitie’, M/News 5 April edition), namely three new Mentors expressing interest in the Program, and a donation from the Bacchus Marsh Community Bank Branch towards a new vehicle for the Program. The Bacchus Marsh Community Bank Branch provided $10,000, the FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) grant provided $10,000, and $7,000 from the Moorabool Shire Council. This will cover the purchase price and branding of the vehicle. I wanted to pass on our gratitude to the Moorabool News for the exposure. Debra Milvain Acting L2P Project Officer Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services

Dear Editor, I would like to thank Lachlan Ellis so much for such a lovely front page article (M/News 24 May 2022). I must say those 52 years in Bacchus Marsh have gone so quickly. It is so easy when you live and work in the town that you love. Also thank you to Helen Tatchell for such a really great photo, you are brilliant with the softer lens. Thank you both for being interested in my 52 years in Bacchus Marsh, it is people like you that have made it so enjoyable. Glenda Jones Bacchus Marsh

Dear Editor, The letter of Tony Lynch (M/News 17 May 2022) sets out the situation of the swimming/sports facility at Bacchus Marsh precisely. This facility is of no use to ratepayers to the west of Bacchus Marsh, many of whom do not visit Bacchus Marsh from one year to the next. The lavishness of plans, why add a Bowling Green when there are already two in the Marsh and add to the costs unnecessarily. This certainly would not be used by anyone outside Bacchus Marsh. As residents of the former Ballan Shire, we had to eventually cover the losses that the former Bacchus Marsh shire had, and would now assume that a special rate would need to be determined that the residents of Bacchus Marsh who would benefit from this facility pay. This is definitely not a “world class facility for all Moorabool families.” It is perhaps time that there was an equal balance between the two halves of the Shire. Merilyn Meadows Ballan

Dear Editor, Rural Councils Victoria offers our congratulations to the newly elected federal government. After a hard-fought and very close campaign, we would like to extend our congratulations to the newly elected Albanese Government. We look forward to working closely with Prime Minister Albanese and his team to help them deliver what communities across rural Victoria need. We are looking forward to meeting the new ministers and their staff to continue our advocacy and provide the research and data that backs up the asks that Rural Councils have been making on behalf of rural communities. In the wake of RCV advocacy, we are appreciative of the billions of dollars in election commitments made by all sides of politics that would benefit rural communities. But more work needs to be done, and urgently. The areas we will talk about with the newly elected government include: • aged care • housing • roads • emergency management • digital connectivity • mobile blackspots • tourism and, • financial support for councils, so councils can better support rural communities. Rural communities are facing many challenges, but with an influx of new community members from the cities and the support of federal and state governments, we can provide the conditions for rural Victoria to thrive. We’ll be working hard to make sure rural Victoria gets it fair share. Cr Mary-Ann Brown Rural Councils Victoria Chair

Dear Editor, On behalf of the Ballan Red Cross Branch, we would sincerely like to pass on our gratitude to Helen Tatchell for her wonderful support of our Branch. Over 18 years Helen has been generous and supportive of all our endeavours to raise funds for the work of Red Cross. Not only did Helen support us she was so generous in the time she gave to so many organisations, and we take this opportunity to thank her and wish her well in the future. Anne Eskdale Ballan Red Cross Branch
