Variety of sports on one oval By Lachlan Ellis A small school has received funding to upgrade their oval and improve the water drainage system, and they couldn’t be happier. Coimadai Primary School received over $170,000 in State Government funding for the works. The school was successful in its application during Round 1 of the ‘Minor Capital Works Fund’ as announced on 2 December 2020, and the works the grant made possible finished earlier this month. The school’s Principal, Moira Ross, said they had applied for a grant last year, but the amount given was a welcome surprise. “We built a new sporting oval and had it all beautifully landscaped. The kids just love it, they’re playing more sport. It’s a running track, a soccer oval, hockey, and tee-ball, all combined. So more of our kids are now playing soccer and hockey in particular,” she told the Moorabool News. “Everyone’s more active. We actually put in just to re-seed our oval, but we got given more so it was a nice surprise. During remote learning while students were at home, we were updating them with what was going on at school. It was nice for them to come back to the upgrades.” Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, visited Coimadai Primary on Friday 11 March to see how the $173,137 grant had been used. “We’re making sure that our local schools have the best facilities and
Storm recovery out in force
Engagement with the community is still occurring with Moorabool Shire Council’s Storm Recovery Team on the road this week. Roving Recovery Hubs will be at Gordon and Mollongghip this Saturday 26 March. The first stop will be held at Gordon Public Hall from 11am12.30 at 68 Main Street Gordon. The second stop is going to be held at Mollongghip CFA Fire Station from 1.30pm-3pm. The CFA shed is located at 506 Dean-Mollongghip Road. There will be a free sausage sizzle and a chance to chat to Council about your recovery needs.

was allocated $20 million under the Victorian Budget for 2021/22, and aims to “improve learning spaces as well as the condition and character of schools”. The Fund has so far allocated funding to over 300 Victorian government schools.
