Home security is key With Christmas goodies still shiny and new, and all those boxes in the recycling bin, Victoria Police have put out a notice to keep your property secure from opportunistic thieves. According to the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council (NMVTRC), the top four most common mistakes made by homeowners, and exploited by thieves, are leaving windows open, leaving valuables in view, leaving keys by doorways, and leaving parcels or mail out. The NMVTRC also discourages social media posts showing you’re on holiday, as some thieves ‘scope out’ social media and break in when they know homes are unoccupied. But there are some simple ways you can minimise the risks – Victoria Police recommend always keeping windows and doors locked, and storing keys and valuables out of sight. If you have an alarm system, cameras or sensor lights, you should also check they’re in working order. Don’t be an easy target, ever.

Traffic plan gets green light

Council has endorsed a new plan to improve traffic management and road safety in Darley, with the final map made available to the public. The latest Location Area Traffic Management (LATM) Plan was adopted by Council at the 1 December Ordinary Meeting, after two community drop-in sessions in July and an online session in September, as well as a survey and interactive map for the draft plan on Council’s Have Your Say website.

The area of interest affected by the LATM is north of Albert Street to Pamela Court, bounded by the Lerderderg River to the east. The plans feature a number of new speed humps, centre blister islands, raised intersections, and wombat crossings, to improve safety for pedestrians. The study was funded by the TAC and follows an earlier completed LATM in Bacchus Marsh in 2019.

They came ‘all ye faithful’ to Moorabool By Helen Tatchell Festive cheer was brought to the rotunda in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan with local musician’s playing their tunes in December. Performances were conducted in a relaxed mood environment with the Moorabool Live and Local Rotunda Sessions, put on by the Moorabool Shire Council, kicking off at the McLean Reserve Ballan with the Honeyfields, a folk trio from Blackwood, followed by festive tunes from The Nelson Family hailing from Gordon. In Bacchus Marsh, the week prior to Christmas, the Jen Hawley Duo played an upbeat set of European Café Jazz. The final event was on Christmas Eve at Eddie Toole Reserve and one local said it was a beautiful day to enjoy the performance by local Clarinet quartet, The Claritudes. “I drank hot chocolate under the shade of a tree in Main Street Bacchus Marsh listening to the lovely music,” Maddingley resident Margaret Scarff told the Moorabool News. “Thank you to Moorabool Shire Council and the musicians,” she said. Throughout December Council encouraged everyone to “Grab a coffee, a picnic and a couple of friends and come to Ballan and Bacchus Marsh and be entertained by some great tunes brought to you by our local musicians.”
