Lockdown writers win big

By Lachlan Ellis

Moorabool Shire Council

There were less entrants than expected in an essay competition run by Rotary this year, but the winners are grinners. Rotary Bacchus Marsh’s ‘My Personal Lockdown’ competition closed for entries on 31 October, with entrants asked to write an essay of 200 – 400 words, or submit a 1-minute video, based on their lockdown experiences. Two essay winners and two video winners were set to win $200 each, with runners-up to receive $50. ELLA’S WINNING ENTRY “Well, Covid 19. It really has ruined the world. Physically, mentally and financially. Lockdown, some people loved it some people hated it, but most of all, everyone is now over it. This whole experience has made me realize how grateful for everything I really am. My family, my friends, school and a normal life, without the need to be wearing masks and sanitising my hands every time I walk in and out of a shop. It’s nearly been two years since it first started. It’s been a wild two years I must say. I ask myself everyday how I can help the world with this pandemic, because honestly, I’m sick of it. I have thought of ideas, these encompass, getting fully vaccinated which I have already done. Following the current Covid rules. Get a smart watch creator to design an app that detects if you are close to a Covid positive person, and pay it forward. So, if someone does something nice for you, you do something nice for them. In the future I want to educate my children by telling them how hard it was for families, businesses and people’s metal health especially depression and anxiety. I would also tell them how important it is to have family and friends around them to support them in something that is big or even in something that is so small. Everyone needs to learn that each person is going through their own difficulties and just to be kind and understanding to one another. Furthermore, the most important one of all, make sure to stock up on toilet paper! Hopefully in the future the world will be back to normal once again. All we need to do is smile.”
