GET READY DONCASTER TIME OUT PAGE 4
A new campaign has launched by Doncaster Council encouraging Doncaster to get ready for this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. It’s just over a month before the best men’s and women’s cyclists in the world race into Doncaster on Thursday 3 May as part of the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire. What’s more, the second stage also passes through the borough on Friday 4 May too. Excitement is already starting to build in the villages and towns
along the route and there is a FREE fan zone on Doncaster Town Field, next to the finish line on Bennetthorpe, which will offer something for the whole family to do. To make the Tour de Yorkshire a day which lives long in the memory, a Get Ready Doncaster campaign has been launched calling on local communities to get into the party spirit and turn out on the day. The world class cycle races are simply the perfect reason for
a carnival of fun. Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “To get Doncaster ready for the Tour de Yorkshire in May, we have launched a campaign telling people the race is coming and encouraging them to do their bit to help make it a fantastic day. We will have lots lined up at the Fanzone at finish on the Thursday and we want communities to organise parties and line the route on both days. It’s going to be a great spectacle.”
REGIONAL EDITION
Cllr Nigel Ball, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Leisure and Culture, said: “We want local residents and businesses to get into the Tour de Yorkshire spirit by organising events and decorating their buildings, land and vehicles in the familiar yellow and blue Tour de Yorkshire colours. In fact, we want to turn Doncaster yellow and blue and show the millions of people watching the race on television across the world and the
thousands of visitors who will come to see the action just why Doncaster is such a wonderful place. “To coincide with this Get Ready Doncaster campaign, we have some exciting competitions for people who join in the fun. This includes a money can’t buy prize for two people to follow the race in the official Tour de Yorkshire race car.” Further information on the competitions and the plans for races is available at www. doncaster.gov.uk/TDY
