TheSocialStudiesDepartmentfollowstheNewYorkStateSyllabusforGrades9and10byusinga chronologicalapproachtothestudyofglobalhistory. Inrelatingthismaterialtomanyglobalsocietiesand tocurrentissues,thestudent’sconsciousnessofherownculturalheritageisstrengthenedwhileher appreciationoftheaccomplishmentsofotherculturesispromoted.

TMLA American History and Civics Diploma Designation

TheSocialStudiesDepartmentwillofferaDiplomaDesignationinAmericanHistoryandCivicsto Sophomoreswhofulfilltherequirementofhavingattainedagradeof90%inthe9thGradeGlobalHistory course. AdmissiontothisprogramwillbedeterminedbytheChairpersonoftheSocialStudies Department.

ThegoaloftheAmericanHistoryandCivicsDiplomaDesignationistoengenderinstudentsadeep awarenessandappreciationforthehistoryoftheUnitedStatesandanunderstandingoftheUnitedStates ConstitutionandthewaysinwhichConstitutionalissuesimpactourdailylives. Thehopeisthatstudents willusethisknowledgetobecomeactivecitizensandpotentialleadersintheAmericanpoliticalprocess.
