Withprogramsspanningacademics,creativity,leadership,lifeskills,andathletics,participantsexplorednew interests,deepenedtheirknowledge,andbuiltmeaningfulconnectionsacrossgradelevelswitheachother andwiththeTMLAcommunity.
EachcoursewasledbydedicatedmembersoftheTMLAcommunity,includingcurrentandformerfaculty, staff,coaches,andalumnae.Theirpassionandexpertisecreatedawarm,inspiringenvironment,providing uniqueopportunitiesforstudentstogrowandthrive.
CreativeWritingencouragedstudentstounlocktheirartisticvoiceandexpressthemselvesthrough journaling,storytelling,andimaginativeprompts.Writersexplorednewideas,builtconfidenceintheircraft, andsharedtheirworkinasupportivespace.
ArtByHandchanneledcreativityintohands-onprojectslikecanvastotes,paperquilling,basketweaving, andmore.Fromquotecanvasesandcakeboxestorockpaintingandwovenwallhangings,students experimentedwithmaterialsandbroughthomeone-of-a-kindcreations.
AcademicProgramshelpedstudentssharpenfoundationalknowledgeandpreviewmaterialfortheyear ahead.OfferingssuchasELAandMathSummerSkills,BootCamps,andTACHSPrepgavestudentsa valuableheadstartandboostedacademicconfidencebeforetheschoolyearbegins.
FinancialLiteracy,presentedbyalumnaMarieMenendez’79,gaverisingjuniors,seniors,andrecent graduatesapracticalandengagingintroductiontosaving,investing,andplanningforthefuture.Participants exploredtopicslikestocks,bonds,retirementaccounts,and thevalueoflong-termfinancialwellness,guided byMarie’sprofessionalexperienceandwarmconnectiontotheTMLAcommunity.
Social-EmotionalandLeadershipBootcamps providedmiddleschoolersandhighschoolerswithspaceto buildself-awareness,practicecommunication,andstrengthenleadershipskills.Throughsmallgroup activitiesandinteractivesessions,studentsformedbondswithpeersandlaidthefoundationforasuccessful schoolyear.
AthleticClinicsandTeamWorkshops keptstudentsmovingandmotivated.Withafocusonfitness, technique,andteam-building,athletestrainedalongsideexperiencedcoachesandpeers.Eveninthe summerheat,studentsbroughttheirbesteffortandschoolspirittoeverysession.
Summerfestwasmorethanacollectionofclasses.Itwasajoyfulandenrichingexperiencewherestudents grewasscholars,creators,leaders,andteammateswhilebuildinglastingmemories.Whethertheycameto strengthentheirskills,trysomethingnew,ormakenewfriends,everyparticipantleftwithastrongersenseof confidenceandconnection.

DidyouknowthatTMLAoncehousedaKindergartenoncampus,andthatitwasco-educational? Featuredherearetwoglimpsesintothatearlychapter:acertificatefrom1943andaclassphotofrom
1962.Whileitmayseemunusualtoday,offeringonlyKindergartenwasnotuncommonforprivateand Catholicinstitutionsinthemid-20thcentury.Atthetime,NewYorkCitydidnotrequirepublicschools toofferKindergarten,andmanychildrendidnotbeginformaleducationuntilfirstgrade.Catholic schoolsoftencreatedearlychildhoodprogramsbasedonlocalneedandsometimesoffered Kindergartenasastandaloneenrichmentopportunitybeforeelementaryschoolbeganelsewhere.
TMLA’sKindergartenprogramisauniquereminderofhowtheSistersofSt.Josephhavealways respondedtotheevolvingneedsoffamiliesinthecommunity,evenfortheyoungestlearners.
