EachyearonMarch19,wecometogethertocelebrateSt.Joseph’sDay—atimetoreflectonthe hallmarksofSt.JosephandhisprofoundinfluenceonTheMaryLouisAcademythroughtheSisters ofSt.Joseph,ourfoundingandsponsoringbody.St.Joseph,ahumblebuilderanddevoted protector,inspirestheSistersofSt.Josephtolivealifeofservice,reconciliation,andlove.His steadfastfaithandquietstrengthhaveshapedTMLA’smissionandcontinuetoguideour commitmenttoeducatingyoungwomentobeleaders,scholars,and,mostimportantly, Peacemakersinourworld.

WelookattheexampleoftheSistersofSt.Joseph,whowillrenewtheirvowstoday,astheydo eachdaythroughtheirministryanddedicationtotheirvocation.Welookatourownlivesas administrators,faculty,staff,andstudentsofTheMaryLouisAcademyandhowwechoosetoserve eachothereverysingleday.

Wetaketimetorememberandreflectuponwhatsetsusapartfromtherest—ourmission,ourunity, reconciliation,concernforthedearneighbor,andmostimportantly,all-inclusivelove.Fornearly90 years,TMLAhasbeenabeaconoffaithandexcellenceineducation,andwearenowthesole remainingCatholicall-girlshighschoolinQueensCounty.Today,wecontinuetogrowandbuild uponthatfoundation—literallyandfiguratively-andareremindedofMaxim62:“Beatpeacewith yourpath.EmbracechangewhentheSpiritprompts.”

Today,wehonormembersofourcommunitywiththePeacemakerAward—oneofthehighest honorswecanbestow—recognizingthosewhoembodyourmission,aspiritofserviceanda willingnesstoembracetheaforementioned“changewiththeSpiritprompts.”Theserecipientsare truerolemodelsandembodimentsofwhatitmeanstobeapartofourMaryLouiscommunity.

LetuscontinuetofollowinthefootstepsofSt.Josephandallofthosewhohaveledusinthe missionandtraditionofexcellenceatTheMaryLouisAcademy.

SincethestartofMaddy’sTMLAcareer,shehasbeenabright lighttoeveryonearoundher.Despiteherbusyscheduleasa twosportstudent-athlete,partoftheServiceLearningand Leadershipprogram,beingaStudentMinister,anEucharistic Minister,andamemberoftheNationalHonorSociety,Maddy alwaystakesthetimetocheckinonothersandmakesure everyonefeelsincluded.Anominatormentioned“Maddytreats eachandeverysinglepersonaroundherwithrespect. Whetherit’sgoingtheextramileforsomeoneshedoesn’teven know,togivingasmalltipduringasportspractice,sheis alwaysthereforhelp,mostimportantly,shemadethe freshwomenfeelwelcomeandincludedduringsoccertryouts.” We'reproudtohaveMaddyasoneofthisyear'sPeacemaker Awardrecipients,recognizingherforheroutstanding characterandpositiveimpactonourcommunity.
