FromTHEArchives

We are so excited to debut a new segment in our newsletter: From THE Archives. Each edition, we will take a walk down memory lane and share a treasured photo or story from TMLA’s past.

To begin, we are featuring a photograph from our very first Prom in 1939, held right here on The Hill. Over the years, Prom has grown and changed with each generation. It was once held in December and is now a spring tradition just before graduation. The celebration has moved from campus to elegant venues like The Hotel Pierre, the Swan Club, and most recently, Jericho Terrace.

Prom has always been a cherished milestone for our seniors, filled with friendship, celebration, and lasting memories.

This look back feels especially meaningful as we prepare to celebrate the Class of 1940 this fall, marking the reunion of our very first graduating class. What a perfect time to reflect on how far we have come and how many traditions have stood the test of time!

Did you attend your TMLA Prom? Did you and your friends plan something else instead? Did you have to decide between our prom and another school’s? Over the years, we have heard all kinds of

stories (some funny, some heartfelt, some surprising) from those who experienced this tradition. In earlier decades, students would visit the adjoining convent to have their gowns approved by the Sisters. If you have a memory or photo from your own Prom night, or even a reflection on choosing not to attend, we would be honored to hear it.

We look forward to sharing more memories with you in future newsletters. If you have any digitized archival photos, vintage issues of The Mariel, or other pieces of TMLA history to contribute, please let us know.

Please email us at alumnae@tmla.org. We would love to hear from you.
