40 under 40 Magazine 2025 - FINAL

Page 1

12 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

As we celebrate the 12th year of Loudoun 40 Under 40, we continue our tradition of recognizing the exceptional young professionals who drive progress and make Loudoun a great place to live and work. This year’s class reflects a wide spectrum of talent — diverse, innovative, and deeply dedicated to our county.

Across Virginia, the population of adults aged 25 to 45 is growing. But in Loudoun, the data points to a different reality. Our median age has climbed from around 33.6 in 2000 to nearly 38 today, and projections show demand from under-35 households declining in the years ahead. Rising housing costs — now close to $800k median sales price and $3k/mo median rent — are only part of the challenge. Job opportunities, long commutes, shifting lifestyle preferences, and strong regional competition are also making it more difficult for Loudoun to attract and retain young talent.

That is why this year’s honorees matter more than ever. Among them are leaders shaping policy on affordable housing, driving economic development, building a sense of community, and welcoming visitors to our area. We celebrate those in healthcare and education who are providing support to young families, from lactation assistance to early childhood development. We honor the professionals fostering wellness, advancing technology, driving financial security, and guiding legal and real estate decisions. And we recognize the creative voices helping us put our best faces forward.

Not only does this year’s class represent the best our county has to offer, they are also making Loudoun more appealing to people like themselves — creating the opportunities, services, and lifestyle that encourages young talent to plant roots here.

In the pages ahead, you’ll read the stories of the honorees, written in their own words and filled with passion, service, and a deep connection to the place we call home.

Congratulations to the 2025 class of Loudoun 40 Under 40. You are leaving your mark on Loudoun in ways that will shape its story for years to come. Thank you for sharing your talents, your leadership, and your commitment to building a vibrant future for our county.

Founder and CEO

Pawsitivity Pet Services

Age: 29

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

I am the Founder and CEO of Pawsitivity Pet Services. We set the ultimate standard of care in the pet services industry. We build trust through exceptional service, prioritize pet well-being, and invest in team training to create lasting, positive impact for pets and the community we proudly serve.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

I’m most proud of winning the Community Ambassador Award at the Leesburg Business Awards. Being recognized by the town of Leesburg and its representatives for our impact on the community is an incredible honor. Accepting the award alongside my team made the moment even more meaningful.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

I am most proud of my partnership with Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA). In 2024, my company donated over 10,400 meals to the shelter and completed volunteer hours by making enrichment toys, cleaning and repairing the shelter, and caring for the pets in their care.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

My goal is to empower my team at Pawsitivity to grow and become leaders. This matters because our mission is rooted in trust and community. Developing leaders from within ensures our future, creates meaningful jobs, and multiplies our impact on pets, people, and neighbors alike.

Personal background and family information

I grew up on Long Island, NY surrounded by family. I earned a B.A. from Binghamton University in 2018. After I graduated, I moved to Loudoun to be closer to my brother (he moved to VA in 2016). I met my fiancé, a Leesburg native, in 2021. We live in Leesburg with our dog and cat, Ted and Max.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

I love adventure. I have bucket lists filled with destinations, restaurants, and activities to try — locally and globally. I’m always seeking new experiences because you never know who you’ll meet, what you’ll discover, or what you might learn along the way. Every journey brings something unexpected.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

The people make Loudoun special. There’s a genuine sense of pride when people talk about living in Loudoun. The level of support for each other is unmatched; we celebrate one another’s wins and truly want to see our community succeed, prosper, and thrive.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

You have to take care of yourself first; as they say, put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. As much as you want to support those around you, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Prioritize your well-being so you can fully show up for others.

AMANDA BAULIG

Vice President of Housing & Community

Strategies

Loudoun Habitat for Humanity

Age: 30

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

At Loudoun Habitat for Humanity, we believe that everyone deserves a decent place to live. With a master’s degree in social work, I see the dignity and worth in every person and desire to leverage my skills to serve the Loudoun community through safe, decent, and affordable housing.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

I am most proud of the project that I was privileged to be a small part of in the Howardsville community. Loudoun Habitat along with Loudoun County Government and other community partners led the charge in providing a safe home for Mr. Reid. Handing over the new keys to Mr. Reid was a proud moment.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

For the last 7 years, I have dedicated my career to faithful service in the nonprofit industry. Being part of the global mission of Habitat for Humanity is a privilege that I will never take for granted. Housing is a human right, and I am proud to be an advocate of this mission.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

I would like to spend more time traveling outside of the DMV. Immersing myself in other cultures and environments will allow me to gain new perspectives and enhance the work that I am doing in Loudoun.

Personal background and family information

I was born and raised just over the Potomac River in Maryland where my immediate family still resides. I completed my higher education at Hood College and Salisbury University. After 29 years, I made the move out west and now enjoy the sunsets over the mountains from my home in Martinsburg, WV.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

In my free time, I enjoy scouting out estate sales and finding treasures at local thrift stores. I love being handy and flipping furniture. Discovering new joy in the re-imagined pieces that I have collected over the years is very fulfilling.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

My favorite part about working in Loudoun is the residents and their diversity and dedication to the community. The people of Loudoun have devoted themselves to being problem solvers and creative thinkers. I’m proud to be part of a community that values the unique experiences of its residents.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Be open to taking risks and trying new things! You are capable of more than you give yourself credit for.

DYLAN BECKNER,

Beckner Counseling

Age: 32

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

Beckner Counseling is a group of four Licensed Clinical Social Workers. We provide mental health treatment to people ages 7 and up for treatment of ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders, Life Transitions, Perinatal Mental Health, and Trauma. Our goal is to make therapy approachable for all.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I’m most proud of starting my own private practice and growing it into what it is today. Curating a team of clinicians and creating a space rooted in empathy, approachability and client-centered care has been the most rewarding achievement of my career.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

We recently started sponsoring a 5k hosted by The Courage Closet, which is a nonprofit that empowers survivors of sexual abuse. We hope to continue to collaborate with them in the future. We have also been involved in mental health events across the county and within the public school system.

A current goal that’s important to you and why I have been providing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy for 7 years, but a current goal I’m focused on is completing my EMDR Therapy Certification. The certification deepens my understanding and techniques, allowing me to provide the best possible care to my clients.

Personal background and family information

I was born and raised on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. I relocated here with my husband when he was medically retired from the Army and transitioned to a career (like many others) in government contracting. When we moved, I told him we could never leave, and we now have completed our family with two kids.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

My favorite, and really only hobby, is weightlifting. I love spending time in the gym, it’s like another version of therapy for myself. My favorite thing about it is feeling strong and seeing the progress that I’m able to make.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

Something I love about Loudoun County is the accessibility of everything. When working with clients, I’m always able to find a resource or referral for other people in the county. I also love the variety of restaurants and activities that are available to us, and how close it is to get to DC!

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

It’s cliché, but never say never. I hadn’t ever anticipated owning my own business or having people work alongside me. I chose to live life on life’s terms and now have my practice to show for it, and I couldn’t be happier!

CHELSEA GABRIELLA BETAH

Realtor and Team Leader

The Gabriella Group with Century 21 Redwood Realty Age: 32

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

I own The Gabriella Group, a real estate team serving the DMV for nearly 15 years. I lead the team alongside my dad, Chris. Together with our agents, we empower our buyers, sellers, and investors to make confident moves!

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

Starting my company and becoming my dad’s boss at 23! Since then, I’ve built a team of three agents and led us to over $100 million in sales from the ground up!

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

By far my largest volunteer contribution has been my time serving with the Dulles Area Association of Realtors. I started working with them in 2013 on various committees and now serve on the Board of Directors.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

Proving that I can maintain success and raise my kids! With a toddler and a newborn, I am laser-focused on supporting my family, balancing work and life, and giving myself permission to pivot. It is possible to “have it all” if you’re honest with yourself, flexible, and willing to reimagine what success looks like.

Personal background and family information

I was born in Colorado but moved 13 times across 6 states with my mom before finally landing in Ashburn in 2009 with my dad, whom I hadn’t lived with since 1997! Today I am proud to say I followed in his footsteps into real estate, and we not only work together, but he is now my very best friend.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

This is one aspect of “having it all” with two kids under two that I’m still re-working. Travel, tennis lessons, reading (and happy hours, let’s be honest!) had been my go-tos. These days, I’m planning trips I may or may not actually take, so hopefully daydreaming counts as a hobby!

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

The quality of life it offers! The wineries, the parks, the schools (SBHS grad here), and the community. Loudoun provides a lifestyle that supports both personal and professional growth in a way I haven’t experienced in other places.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Stop waiting to feel ready. You can do hard things, and you don’t need to have it all figured out to get started. Very few people really care about the things you overthink, but they do care about you. Ask for help when you need it and know that everything is going to work out, it always does!

VANESSA BORG

Age: 31

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

Founder and Owner/Operator of CRAFT, formerly an arts and crafts shop in downtown Leesburg — now undergoing a change to become CRAFT Theatre Company, specializing in contemporary theatrical works and high-quality, community-centric productions. We will be in residency at Faith Chapel Gathering Place for All and are pursuing 501c3 status.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud of?

Both opening a retail shop and realizing when it was the right time to step away to allow something new to take shape. I’m very proud of my nonprofit work, I’m on the Board of Directors for both The Leesburg Movement and Equality Loudoun. An event I founded with the Leesburg Movement, The Mistletoe Market, was nominated for a Visit Loudoun award this year. I was nominated for a Community Leadership award from the Chamber of Commerce this year and received the Pride in Our Advocacy award from Loudoun Pride.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

I would say helping found and previously serving as Chair of The Leesburg Movement. Starting/growing our social media profiles and newsletter list from scratch (all organically and we have a solid following now!), building our website, and establishing/ running both the Mistletoe Market and Leesburg Listening Room annual series. I feel that my work has made such a large impact relatively quickly, it’s amazing to be a part of! Virginia Main Street leaders now promote Leesburg to other towns as an example of how to build a highly successful main street nonprofit in just a few years.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

I am proud of the artistic community my husband and I have been building and am so encouraged by the response we’ve already gotten to announcing our new theatre company, it’s something that is clearly wanted and needed in Leesburg. My big goal is to reach professional status and make this a destination both for actors from larger cities who want to be a part of great shows/ new works, and also to make it a highly-accessible theatre for locals who would be more likely to see theatre and participate in meet-ups if there were pay-what-you-can options and the ability to access childcare on-site.

Personal background and family information

My husband and I met in college while studying theatre and reconnected later — we have been married for two years now. We have a performing arts background and love everything artsy (and culinary)! Our daughter is 8, she was a big impetus for starting our business — wanting to provide a space for crafty kids and families in downtown Leesburg. She saw “Hamilton” this year and now is even MORE excited for us to be embarking on this new, theatrical adventure.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

I enjoy painting, mostly abstracts in acrylics or oil paint. I also like to read (especially science fiction short stories), singing, hanging out at the pool in the summer, and volunteer work. I’m co-leader for my daughter’s girl scout troop which is a ton of fun. I love to cook (especially Italian food) and bake as well!

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

We are so close to the city and also the mountains and rural areas — it’s the best of both worlds. I love the diversity in our area, especially Eastern Loudoun (so many good restaurants!) and the business community in Leesburg is so supportive. Plus, the schools are great, my daughter loves her school (we cannot get over how adorable Loving Elementary’s new mascots are).

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Just try - there’s no harm in trying, and in asking for help. Collaboration is everything, and you have a gift for assembling great creative teams, lean into it! The plans you’re setting in motion may come to fruition sooner than you think, so be prepared to jump in with both feet.

Sassy Woof

Age: 36

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

Sassy Woof is a fast-growing pet-lifestyle brand known for turning pet accessories into joyful statements of personality that is carried by small retailers and big-box partners alike. Sassy Woof is one of the few brands authorized to create licensed products from major labels such as Disney and Warner Bros.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

To run a 5K by the end of this year. I want to make sure I’m physically healthy to not only show my kids the importance of staying active, but also to be able to be present in their lives for as long as I can.

Personal background and family information

I am the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants. My family arrived from Vietnam with little in their pockets but with big hopes for the future.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

I love to plan and host events for my family and friends. I also created a local meetup group in the DMV area for dachshund lovers and owners (@dmvweens). I enjoy coordinating events for all the local dachshunds to get together once a month to play. I also enjoy scrapbooking with my kids!

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

Loudoun.has.everything! As a native, LOCO is where everything happens. There are events every weekend, the farmer’s market, and a large variety of restaurants to enjoy. Now that I own a business, I am so excited to be part of the small but robust business community. I also enjoy the local parks scene.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

To trust yourself and go for it!

I speak with many potential women entrepreneurs that often are so scared about starting their brand or business despite having a fantastic idea! I passed on many things during my earlier life because I was scared, and I wish I could go back.

As a member of 100WomenStrong, I contribute to a powerful collective that strategically grants funds to Loudoun County non-profits, addressing critical needs like shelter, health, hunger, and education. We amplify our impact by combining resources to support vital community initiatives.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

A core goal is financial education for women. Witnessing my mother’s divorce and losing loved ones underscored the vital need for women to make informed financial decisions. I’m driven to empower them with this knowledge, ensuring their long-term security and independence.

Personal background and family information

As Virginia Tech alumni, my husband, Devin, and I made Leesburg our home in 2008. We’re proud to raise our two wonderful boys, Andrew (13) and Hunter (7), surrounded by friends and family in the community we love.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

My favorite activities are travel and hiking. Exploring new places and hitting the trails, especially in scenic spots like those around the mountains of Virginia, keep me energized and connected to nature.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

What I love most about Loudoun County is its perfect blend. I enjoy living so close to city activities like diverse restaurants and concerts, while also having immediate access to fantastic hiking trails, local wineries, and the warm, small-town community feel. It offers the best of both worlds!

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self Trust in the Lord more. Life’s journey has many twists, and recognizing His unwavering guidance and plan will bring immense peace. Lean on faith to navigate challenges, knowing that even in uncertainty, His path leads to purpose.

KATHRYN RIZOR

Loudoun County Public Schools

Age: 33

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

I lead the LCPS Data Science Team in overseeing Enterprise data pipelines and management through various data science techniques and methodologies that contribute to building an environment that provides students, parents, staff, and the community with highly functional technology.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

The professional accomplishment that I am most proud of is the recent implementation of Python within data architecture. With this, the Data Science Team has been able to deploy automated admin-based processes that streamline operational needs.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

Specifically through my position at Loudoun County Public Schools, I’m able to lead a team that securely moves specified data from LCPS to our vendors through data interoperability methods that provide critical services for students, parents, staff, and the community.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

A current goal of mine is to continue collaboration with the LCPS Research office for the goal of creating a standard machine learning framework. As a part of K-12 data modernization, machine learning, as well as other data science methodologies, will continue to play a role.

Personal background and family information

Originally born and raised in Kansas, I moved to the East Coast in the fall of 2015. I met my husband, Adam, while in grad school at UMD. We now live in Lovettsville with our two kids, Lily and Zack, and our Australian shepherd, Esme.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

Other than work or family, I enjoy arts and crafts. I particularly like making silk flower arrangements like wreaths or baskets. In the past couple of years, I’ve started to get into making custom resin tumblers as well.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

Hands down, the scenery. Living in Western Loudoun, I love being able to hike and be around the mountains.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Prioritize physical well-being and stick to healthy eating habits, especially in times of high stress. And definitely stay away from energy drinks!

ALLYSON ROACH

Owner, Designer, Builder

Sparrow’s House Custom Woodwork & Design

Age: 38

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

I design and build custom furniture and built-ins for Loudoun residents; create signs for local businesses and families; and lead woodworking classes in the community. Outside of my business, my Frenchie and I volunteer as a pet therapy team, visiting nursing homes to brighten residents’ days.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

I’m not a trained carpenter or business major — and I’m not a man. Yet I’ve built a thriving, woman-owned woodworking and design business in a male-dominated field. My proudest professional accomplishment has been creating a memorial sign for a local fireman’s daughter who passed too soon.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

My most meaningful community work is visiting a nursing home with my dog, Blueberry, as a pet therapy team. The residents light up when she walks in — some even speak only when a therapy dog is present. It’s powerful to see the joy and connection she brings to a group that’s often overlooked.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

My husband, Colin, and I hope to one day own a large piece of land in Western Loudoun, where we can design and build our dream home. I picture a spacious workshop with a showroom on the property, giving me room to grow my business and offer more woodworking classes throughout the year.

Personal background and family information

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart, Colin, for 17 years. We are originally from the Cleveland area and moved to Virginia in 2014. We have a one-eyed cat, Sparrow, and a Frenchie, Blueberry. Colin and I love to travel and aim to visit all 30 MLB ballparks (just hit number 17!).

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

When I’m not working or with family, I’m likely reading on my Kindle — my goal is 100 books in 2025, and I’m already 75% there! I love exploring new trails with my pup, Blueberry, and also enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and hosting dinner parties with friends.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

My favorite thing about living in Loudoun is how close I am to a wide variety of cultural experiences. From my home in Sterling, I’m less than an hour to DC and about an hour to Shenandoah- with no shortage of hiking trails, breweries, wineries, local shops, and great restaurants in between!

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Life is long. You don’t need to have it all figured out in college; you’ll likely change your mind and your career several times, and still not feel like you have it “figured out.” Your 20s are better than high school, and your 30s are better yet!

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

Against all odds, I earned my International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification as well as my Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification while juggling being a single mom of five! Serving my community in the midst of trials is something of which I’m most proud.

REAGAN SHAFFER

Wonder Childhood Discovery

Age: 32

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

We are on a mission to improve the children in our community’s lives and overall happiness. It is absolutely devastating seeing what kids face with social media and screens — we’re here to change that. We know it takes a village and so I want to bring as many moms and small businesses along.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

I am most proud of our business winning the New/Expanding Business Award and People’s Choice Award at the 2025 Leesburg Business Awards. We’re so proud of the network and relationships we’ve built, the small businesses we’ve partnered with and the community we’ve built in just 9 months of business.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

Loudoun Hunger Relief is an organization near and dear to my heart. We choose to raise money and donations as often as we can — both in our business (Mom’s Night Out donations) and personal life (we forgo presents at my daughters birthday in lieu of donations).

A current goal that’s important to you and why

One current goal I have in 2025 is to learn one new thing per day, big or small. At the speed that things are changing in our lives, we cannot get too comfortable — as Satya Nadella says: “Don’t be a know-it-all; be a learn-it-all.”

Personal background and family information

I was born in Texas, but moved to Loudoun when I was 5. Aside from four years living abroad in Europe and studying at James Madison University, I have resided and worked in Northern Virginia. I am married with two beautiful little girls and so grateful to raise our family here!

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

Real estate and interior design is a hobby of mine that I try to bring into my everyday life. 27 South (and their new farm property location), Old Lucketts Store, and Manse in Alexandria are a few local favorites, whether it’s for my home, our business, or helping a friend!

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

The variety available as a parent, resident, and business owner. I love all that we have right here in Loudoun — farms, vineyards, businesses (big and small), the ability to truly “staycation” right near home, the door to travel, and our incredible neighborhoods and communities of families.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Don’t forget to pause along the journey and reflect on the wins. I am my own worst critic and constantly looking to what is “next.” Now, I make every effort to be present in the NOW and be grateful for how far I’ve come.

BRIDGETTE SMITH

General Manager

Williams Gap Vineyard

Age: 35

“Elevator speech” about you and your company Williams Gap Vineyard offers estate-grown wines, craft beer, and a warm, elegant escape in the heart of Loudoun County wine country. I am the General Manager and am lucky to have my hands in every part of the business including, tasting room, vineyard and winemaking.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I’m most proud of the professional growth I’ve achieved, thanks to incredible mentors in Loudoun’s wine industry who believed in me and invested their time to expand my knowledge of wine, viticulture, winemaking, management, and hospitality.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I co-founded Pride in the Vines in 2021 to promote inclusivity in Loudoun’s wine community. What began with 3 wineries has grown to 23, creating a supportive, county-wide celebration of LGBTQ+ pride through collaboration, advocacy, and community engagement.

A current goal that’s important to you and why My current goal at Williams Gap is two-fold: 1) to work with smaller local wineries to collaborate on wine projects for their wineries, 2) partner with local Loudoun restaurants as more businesses feature Loudoun wine. Both of these goals are important to me because with everything I do professionally, my goal is to promote Loudoun wine.

Personal background and family information

I grew up in Northern Virginia and worked in small business my entire life. My sister and I are both in craft beverage management here in Loudoun as my parents instilled a managerial mindset in us. Interestingly enough, my wife is in the Loudoun Wine Industry, as well. I currently live in Charles Town, W.V. with my beautiful wife, Sydney and our mini goldendoodle, Brady.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love to teach and have made it part of my role at Williams Gap. I regularly lead Wine 101 classes, helping guests explore wine in a fun, approachable way while deepening their appreciation for wine (here in Loudoun and abroad) and enhancing their tasting experience.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

I love rural Loudoun — rolling hills, farms, vineyards, mountains — this all makes my commute really enjoyable. The people in Loudoun County truly care about others and it shows with every interaction I have at the vineyard. My customers have become friends, some I even call family.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Get into the wine industry sooner, no need to wait until you’re 25 years old to find your passion. Start by bussing tables on the weekend when you’re 15, and start serving as soon as you can. Learn as much as you can from those around you.

SARAH SPENCER

Communications Manager

Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce

Founder & Photographer

Sarah’s Collective LLC

Age: 24

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

As Communications Manager at the Loudoun Chamber, representing 57,000 employees, I manage communications for 100+ events annually — from galas with 500 attendees to intimate workshops. The Chamber is a 5-Star Accredited organization, an honor earned by only 1% of chambers nationwide.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

Producing our Annual Report Videos. The videos debut to 500 attendees at our Annual Meeting. Then they’re posted across our socials and sent out in enews to 10,000+ local employees. This video was an accumulation of a year of planning and filming to reinforce our value prop to the businesses.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

Ran two simultaneous 24-hour fundraising social campaigns (Give Choose), helping to secure a record $80,000 for the Chamber Foundation — funds that were distributed to 20 local nonprofits — and a record $11,762 for the First Responders Foundation, 235% over LFRF’s goal.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

I’d like to begin mentoring young photographers. This year, I had a photography TikTok go viral with over a million views. Since then, I receive messages from photographers all over starting out who have many of the same questions I had when I began. I enjoy giving them tidbits of knowledge.

Personal background and family information

I was born and raised in Winchester, V.A. I grew up with pediatric epilepsy and attended the National Epilepsy Walk on the National Mall each year which sparked my initial passion for nonprofits at an early age. I attended Virginia Tech where I majored in Marketing before joining the Loudoun Chamber.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

Creating in general, but especially photography has always filled my cup and given me an outlet for what I’m feeling. I’m now lucky to pour that passion into the couples and individuals I work with! I’ve always been a storyteller. I used to want to be a writer. Now I tell stories with my photos.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun I was warmly embraced by the business community here and have felt supported both in my chamber role and through my photography and volunteer work. Loudoun’s unique blend of scenic countryside, history, and cutting-edge innovation that I work with everyday creates an inspiring community!

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self Comparison is the thief of joy! I’d often find myself measuring my progress against others whether in my photography, career, or any other pursuit. I’d tell myself to slow down and enjoy the season of life I’m in. The moments you spend learning, experimenting, and even failing are just as important.

ROBERT SPROUL

Attorney at Law

Harrison & Johnston, PLC

Age: 38

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

I am an attorney at Harrison & Johnston, PLC, a general practice firm with offices in Leesburg and Winchester, where my focus is on transactions and litigation related to employment, business, land use and real estate. I am also proud to serve as the Town Attorney for a number of towns in Virginia, including Lovettsville.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

Most recently, I was able to achieve a favorable settlement for an HIV-positive, 100% service-disabled veteran in a discrimination claim against their condo association. Superficially, having one of my trials documented by the late courtroom sketch artist Bill Hennessy was pretty darn cool.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

I am the Director of Operations and General Counsel for Loudoun Rugby Football Club, Inc., a nonprofit that is dedicated to growing the game here in Loudoun and beyond. We are the only club in Virginia that has opportunities for youth (starting with co-ed tag at age 6) through adults.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

To find a permanent practice and match field/facility for the Loudoun Rugby club, which would allow operational consistency and predictability for the program and would secure the future of the club and its players for generations to come.

Personal background and family information

I grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and followed my parents to Leesburg in 2007. I have also lived in New Orleans, Washington, D.C., Sterling and Hamilton. I now live in Leesburg with my wife, son and two dogs. We are expecting a daughter in November.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Rugby and fly fishing.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

I enjoy Loudoun’s mix of suburban and rural areas, and how the area blends a small-town feel and a sense of community with its importance and impact in so many global industries. I enjoy being able to walk to my office in Leesburg while running into and catching up with people I know along the way.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self.

Listen to your parents and always make time for the people and things that are important to you. Sorry — that was two pieces of advice.

CALEB STOUGHT

Council Member

Purcellville Town Council

Age: 36

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

My goals on town council are sustainable financial planning, preserving Purcellville’s small town feel, and providing infrastructure that supports a high quality of life. Our town’s parks, green space, festivals and parades, and local businesses make Purcellville a special place to call home.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

It was my honor this year to be one of three votes which prevented the disbanding of the Purcellville Police Department, a town service which contributes greatly to Purcellville’s rank as the second safest town in Virginia and makes possible our community events such as parades and festivals.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

All my actions since getting involved in town government, from door knocking and attending town events to publishing meeting minutes online and responding to resident emails has helped inform my perspective on town issues and make me a more effective public servant.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

We must bring more transparency and good processes to Purcellville’s government. Over the past several months, hasty decisions have been prepared in secret and acted on with little to no preparation or discussion. This significantly undermines public trust in our town’s government.

Personal background and family information

I have lived in Purcellville since 2019 with my wife Erica, who grew up in Loudoun County, and our three daughters. Prior to that I was stationed all around the country, as far east as Fort Meade, Maryland and as far west as Seattle, Washington.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

When I’m not working or spending time with my family, I enjoy studying history and doing CrossFit.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

Loudoun county represents an amazing blend of professional opportunities so close to our nation’s capital and the rural feel that comes from living in a place with local farms, breweries and wineries, and amazing opportunities for activities in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Work hard every day, but always remember that the goal of your hard work is to serve and benefit others, not achieve recognition for yourself. When the work is done, don’t forget to rest and enjoy the blessings of friends, family, and fun.

SARAH STOWE

Logistics & Compliance Director

Experience Bluemont

Age: 32

“Elevator speech” about you and your company

I’m the Logistics & Compliance Director for Experience Bluemont, a family-owned hospitality group of over 5+ businesses. I lead operations, compliance, and strategy across all brands by streamlining systems, mentoring teams, and creating unforgettable guest experiences rooted in heart and hospitality.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

I grew from an entry-level hospitality role into senior leadership. I didn’t have a traditional background, but through my grit, curiosity, and drive to learn, I’ve delivered results and led with integrity. Proving that dedication and people-first leadership matter more than any title ever could.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

The work we do during the holidays through our Love Local Nights lets us support 3-4 new nonprofits each year. From supporting veterans and animal rescues to expanding free healthcare and mental health awareness, it’s an impactful way for us to amplify causes that make a difference in our community.

A current goal that’s important to you and why

To become more well-rounded by stepping outside of my comfort zone. This includes traveling to unfamiliar places and taking courses in subjects far removed from my usual work. It’s a personal commitment to growth, curiosity, and expanding the way I understand the world.

Personal background and family information

I grew up in rural northern Wisconsin in a low-income home where we lived off the land to survive — hunting, fishing, and chopping wood to stay warm. Surrounded by addiction and mental health struggles, I got a job at 14, moved out at 16, and pushed myself to pursue education and a better future.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

I find peace hiking and meditating. Both keep me grounded and present. I journal daily and love to read everything from memoirs and leadership books to thrillers and high fantasy. I’m a lover of all Loudoun County wineries and breweries. Learning more about the craft beverage industry and expanding my palette.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

The balance of rural beauty, vibrant agriculture, and a thriving and active business community. You’ve got local makers, amazing food, craft beverages, and a community that truly supports one another. It’s a place where big dreams feel possible. It’s hard not to feel inspired here every day.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

It’s okay to be different from those around you. Wanting more doesn’t make you ungrateful; it makes you brave. Being different, you see the world in ways others don’t. It gives you perspective and that’s your strength. One day, you’ll find places where your voice, fire, and dreams are the perfect fit.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

My official pastoral ordination in 2024 is a life achievement that’s marked me for the better. It is a high mantle to carry and helps me to stay focused on helping others become everything they are created to be.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement

I have a desire to strengthen the marriage to my wife of 13 years. I believe that great leaders are only as strong as their most intimate connections.

A life-giving hobby is reading with a great cup of coffee in hand. I also love a good pick-up basketball game with the boys!

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

The people! The relationships I’ve built and cultivated through my time growing up here have been invaluable to me. I love the strategic family oriented design and forward focused business development.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Buy a home in Loudoun now! Don’t wait!

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud

Ever since I first saw the U.S. Capitol on TV as a child in Taiwan, working there became a dream I was determined to pursue. After years of dedication and perseverance as an immigrant, that dream became a reality in 2018 when I joined the Senate Commerce Committee as a Nonpartisan Law Clerk. In that role, I applied my legal training and global perspective to support the U.S. policymaking process.

I am passionate about developing creative, strategic solutions that align the needs of both employers and employees, because I always believe collaboration is the key to long-term success.

Personal background and family information

My family values are “moral depth, empathy, and humility.” Inspired by my parents who are both lifelong educators, I began studying abroad at 12. This global perspective now helps me serve as a trusted advisor to clients with cross-border compliance needs. As immigrants, we are now proud to call Loudoun our home.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family

I enjoy exploring wineries and breweries in western Loudoun, soaking in nature and savoring a laid-back day. There is no better feeling than sipping a drink, surrounded by friends, family, and laughter, with scenic views and fresh air, a perfect mental reset from the weekly grind.

Favorite thing about living/working in Loudoun

I am grateful for Loudoun’s peaceful escape from the fast-paced lifestyle. The open landscapes, quiet nights, and stargazing are unmatched. It is a great place to reset mentally from busy work yet still offers easy access to the city and global travel. Perfect balance of nature and connectivity.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self

Perseverance will carry you through life’s challenges. Don’t hide yourself when confronted with adversity it is okay to stumble, as long as you keep getting back up. Always keep your heart open to people from all walks of life, practice gratitude for what you have, and thoughtfully consider the impact of your decisions.
