ABOVE AND BEYOND Now in its eighth year, the annual Loudoun 40 Under 40 awards recognizes the most inspiring, talented and just plain cool people in our community under the age of 40*. After taking a break last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program returned this spring with our most competitive pool of applicants to date. Selected from more than 260 nominees by a panel of prior honorees, this year’s 40 Under 40 class exhibits noteworthy professional accomplishments, heartfelt community involvement and dynamic leadership traits. They’ve also demonstrated perseverance. Faced with shutdowns, economic uncertainties and staffing woes, our honorees showed their ingenuity, tenacity and – at a time when it was so desperately needed - empathy. The 2021 class of Loudoun 40 Under 40 represents all ends of the business spectrum, from entepreneurs to restaurateurs, executive directors to emergency room workers. Many are heroes. All are exceptional. In the pages ahead, these standouts share how they are making their mark on Loudoun and beyond. Our honorees will tell you – in their own words -- who they are, what drives them and how they’ve weathered the pandemic. We have no doubt you’ll come away from this year’s issue just a little more inspired by the community we call home.

I am proud to serve as the project and quality assurance manager, leading our mission-driven clients to evolve their digital experience by putting ideas into action.

“Elevator speech” about you and your company I work for Cisco as a Customer Success Executive. My customers are all Federal organizations so my team works hard to make sure that they get the best value out of what is effectively our tax dollars at work.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am most proud that my career success included a very unconventional path, with life and professional lessons along the way. Before becoming a successful chemist, I was an intern every summer and winter in different departments to learn about the organization across various disciplines.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I’m most proud of being selected as a Battalion Commander in the US Army. The privilege to lead soldiers is sacred and to have been selected from such a large pool of eligible officers is incredibly humbling.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My most significant community involvement is my role at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (Air and Space Museum). Each moment allows me the opportunity to inspire a young mind and engage with curious adults! Personal background and family information Born and raised in the midwest. I relocated to Northern Virginia in 2012. Eager to experience and explore a different environment, Northern Virginia quickly became home and I absolutely love the culture and community. I’m inspired daily by my very supportive husband and amazing daughter!

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Serving as a Volunteer FireFighter and EMT in Ashburn’s Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. There, I get to work with like-minded, selfless people who set aside their lives in the service of others! Personal background and family information My parents met in Korea when my dad was serving in the US Army. They currently reside in Manassas. I met my wife when I was assigned to work with the White House and my wife, Lauren, was an intern for a Congressman. We have been married for 8 years and have two boys with another on the way!

How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? COVID-19 pandemic caused me to refocus on the importance of time with family and friends. I purposefully ensure my efforts and energy increase the value to family, friends, and impactful causes.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? Both of my parents and my mother-in-law contracted COVID-19, which brought the threat closer to home for us. As a first responder, I am able to interact with the community and see first-hand how the pandemic is impacting our neighbors. Let’s just hope it’s over soon.

Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you My personal mentor would undoubtedly be my husband. He is able to help guide key learning milestones in the technical field. It is helpful to have that person who can encourage you to your highest potential and also help to prioritize commitments.

Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you There are too many to mention here. I’m a student of leadership. I read about it, listen to examples of it, and work hard to serve as the best leader that I can. Mentors come in all forms, whether they lead me or vice versa. The best leaders are honest and humble.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family My favorite activity outside of work and family is experimenting with manual coffee brewing techniques, like siphons or pour overs. It is exciting to taste different coffee notes, depending on variables such as the origin of the bean, brew method, and temperature.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Over the last several years, my family has enjoyed the campgrounds throughout the DMV. We tow our camper out to new campsites often and soak in the beauty all across this great region.

Favorite smartphone app YELP is currently leading as my favorite smartphone app! I’m a huge Yelper and with the shift of normalcy, YELP has helped to locate new local locations to dine or visit. I love how you have the opportunity to share your findings with others who may also be searching for something new!

“Elevator speech” about you and your company As the Executive Director of the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum, I serve the organization’s mission of preserving and sharing Loudoun’s rural heritage. Sterling is the gateway to Loudoun, and each year the museum is the gateway for thousands of families to engage with our history!

“Elevator speech” about you and your company Together with our customers, we are driven to make healthcare better. These are marching orders at Stryker everyday. We are dedicated to providing products to our customers so they can have surgery and heal to be with their families in a healthy state. This is why I love this company.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am proud of every program and every collaboration, but I am most honored to be part of the Middleburg Business and Professionals Association Board and the Visit Loudoun Board. It’s a pleasure to be part of leadership teams that support the business community through unprecedented challenges.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I would say the professional accomplishment I am most proud of is being able to land a career where I am helping people everyday. I know that when I get up every morning and drive into work, I will impact someone’s life in a positive way.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Art and engagement have always been passions of mine. I enjoy volunteering regularly with Artists in Middleburg and at annual arts events for students. My donations of artwork have raised thousands of dollars for deserving community causes.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I recently joined the Board of Directors for ECHO in November of 2020. Joining this board has given me another opportunity to help out the community in a positive way.

Personal background and family information Growing up in the Fredericksburg area, my family has always been passionate about music, art, and history. Last summer I had a ‘quarantine wedding’ in Leesburg. My husband, Mike, and I live in Sterling and regularly go on hikes and road trips to inspire our artwork and enjoy the local landscape. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? With the Middleburg Business and Professionals Association Board and Visit Loudoun Boards, and my new appointment to the Middleburg Arts Council and the Farm Museum, there has been more work to do than ever! But since that wasn’t enough to stay busy I got married, adopted a dog, and bought a house. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you When I first came to Loudoun I was fortunate to work for Melanie Mathewes at the National Sporting Library & Museum. Since then, she has been a professional role model, a personal mentor, and one of my best friends. She is a wonderful example of strength, intelligence, and compassion. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family When I’m not at work or a work-related event, I enjoy painting, drawing, and exploring the outdoors. It’s always a pleasure to have work on view with Artists in Middleburg and Friends of Leesburg Public Art, and to volunteer with those organizations. Favorite smartphone app Facebook has become an indispensable tool, but in my personal time my most visited app is Reddit. There are great subreddits about local events, history memes, and of course pictures of cats.

Personal background and family information I was born and raised in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina by my father and grandmother for most of my life. My mother moved to Loudoun County in 1994. I would visit the area each summer for three months after she moved. In 2009, I graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a B.S. in Electronics Technology. I am married to my beautiful wife, Courtney, and we have 2 amazing kids, Layah (6) and Sedale II (6 months). How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? COVID-19 has impacted my life in a major but positive way. I was selected by leadership at my company to be on-site representative for the COVID-19 response team. On this team, I help manage getting PPE out to our field based employees along with ensuring that our on-site critical employees had PPE and all safety measures were in place. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you I would consider David MacDonald as a professional mentor. He has taught me some valuable lessons that have shaped me to the leader that I am today. I have a tremendous amount of faith in myself and my abilities because of his ongoing encouragement. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I enjoy fishing, listening to music, watching sports (GO BUCS!), and playing video games in my spare time. Favorite smartphone app I don’t have a favorite smartphone app but I would say I use Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn the most because it allows me to stay connected with family and friends.

I own a mental health private practice in Leesburg. We work with teenagers through adulthood on managing transitions and a variety of mental health issues so our clients can live life in a healthy and productive manner, with supportive people in their life. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am most proud of winning Posh Seven’s Best Counselor for Kids in 2016. It was the first year that the community was polled and applicants were not allowed to encourage people to vote. To know that I have had that much of an impact on my community was an honor. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My most significant non profit work would be with the Ryan Bartel Foundation. Fundraising and helping parents and their children improve communication is a passion of mine. I am also passionate about helping teenagers see the value in life and persevere even when they don’t want to. Personal background and family information I am originally from Brooklyn, NY and moved to Sterling, VA when I was ten years old. I was raised by my mother after my father was killed when I was five years old. She has been married to my stepfather for twenty one years. I have one younger brother, have been married for four years, and I have two stepdaughters. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? Trained in person to person interactions, I had to work one hundred percent virtually. With the rise in depression, suicide, etc., I had to support clients, while going through similar hardships as them, practicing new coping skills daily. I come from a tight family and was unable to see them for over a year. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My professional mentor is Neil McNerney. Neil has always seen something in me that I did not see in myself and offered advice and encouragement. He has taught me how to run a successful private practice, build my confidence as a therapist, and step out of my comfort zone with public speaking. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love to read suspense books that leave me on the tip of my toes and trying to figure out what’s next. It’s amazing how my imagination creates a world outside of my own using the descriptions of the author. With the right book, I can read for hours and feel as if no time has passed at all. Favorite smartphone app I love the Marco Polo app. My family and I all downloaded the app a few years ago after my grandfather passed away. We wanted a way to stay connected more regularly, not just coming together for holidays and funerals. The Marco Polo app has strengthened our family bond in tremendous ways.

“Elevator speech” about you and your company I have worked for this company for over fifteen years. I love this company. I believe in the values they represent. I truly love what I do. I take pride in saying I have been an employee here since high school. I aspire to lead a department someday. I look forward to what the future holds for me.

“Elevator speech” about you and your company Uplift Loudoun is a blog dedicated to sharing uplifting stories to inspire others in Loudoun County. I created the website at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to spread hope and positive news in the community. It’s most definitely a passion project.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am most proud of my Daisy Award that I received in 2016. I was at the bedside when a heart attack patient became unresponsive and performed CPR until he was revived. His family nominated me for the award and attended the ceremony. This award reminds me why I chose this career.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I often see the question proposed on social groups, ‘what is your dream job?’ Since I was a child, I wanted to be a TV news reporter. I’m very happy to say that I experienced my dream job. That’s very gratifying.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My biggest accomplishment in the past few years has been taking part in the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) fundraiser at the United States Supreme Court. I had the privilege to take part in a fundraising cookout held on the Supreme Court lawn and raised three thousand dollars.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I’m currently involved in a charity fashion show that raises money for a few nonprofits, including A Place To Be and One Sparrow. It will be held on September 18th. We’ve been rehearsing for months to make sure it’s flawless. In addition to this, Uplift Loudoun, is a website to support, inspire, and uplift the community.

Personal background and family information I am from Maryland. I am one of five nurses in my family with a sixth in nursing school. I grew up going to Inova Lansdowne as a child. My mother has worked there for over twenty-five years. I have been married for seven years to my wife Kayla, and we have a four year old daughter named Harlow Rose (“Harley”) and a newborn son Henry Robert (“Rooster”). How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? We sold our house in March of 2020 to build a home just before the first shut down. The new build fell through due to complications. We stayed with my family for six months until we could find a new home. The family faced the ever changing world together and brought us closer in a time for uncertainty. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Kim Klein has been a mentor of mine since I started in the Emergency Department in 2013. She has been my mentor and educator as my responsibilities became larger and my goals became greater. She saw potential in me that I hadn’t seen in myself yet. She has been the person I could talk with and vent about the day. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I grew up working on anything and everything with my family. We put roofs on houses, built decks, restored cars, and built Harleys. We cook barbeque for family weddings and reunions. We even built our own barbeque pit. My family gathers around the projects and the family meals that follow. Favorite smartphone app I love Snapchat. I like to send my wife funny videos and pictures I take with my daughter. I like to make goofy posts to make people laugh. When coworkers become my friends on SnapChat, I usually apologize in advance. You will get tired of all the videos of my daughter jamming to her music.

Personal background and family information I’m originally from Pittsburgh and went to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where I studied journalism. I lived in Los Angeles and Charleston, South Carolina prior to moving to Leesburg. I’m married to my husband of 11 years, David, and we have three sons together, Luca (6), Julian (4), and Caden (2). How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? My family is together at home. With three children under six, it’s been challenging to accomplish all the tasks at hand, but I believe you make time for what’s important to you. First will always be family. The pandemic has reminded me of what truly matters in life and to take nothing for granted. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Without a doubt it’s my father. He’s always given me wonderful life advice. He shared the poem, Desiderata, with me a long time ago, which is basically wisdom for living life. I have it printed on a canvas that hangs at my desk. I read it regularly. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love playing tennis, running, and more recently, hiking. I enjoy trying new things, whether it be an art class, photography, or visiting a winery or eatery. I also like to travel and listen to podcasts. Favorite smartphone app Judging by my usage, it would be Instagram. I love the library apps, Overdrive and Libby for books and audiobooks.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am very proud that my wife and I were able to take everything we have learned and open a second location and get it to match and even beat the first location in a fraction of the time. We did all that by building a good program and becoming true leaders.

Building a brand new service offering inside of a $2 billion dollar publicly traded technology firm and growing it from zero dollars to one hundred million dollars total contract value in three years. 2. Starting a new company as a first time entrepreneur and business owner in the middle of the pandemic and achieving our year 1 goals in 6 months.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement We give back a lot but I must say I am most proud of our time with middle schoolers and teaching their PE classes. Not only teaching them to squat, but talking to them about why eating right and working out is so important and being able to see that impact and answer their questions is great. Personal background and family information My father was born and raised in Arlington but met my mother in his early 20’s and they moved to Loudoun County in the early 80’s. My mother came to DC to go to school on her own from Puerto Rico. I have grown up my entire life in Sterling, and want to build it up and bring more businesses back. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? COVID shut us down for 3 months so that was scary and hurt us financially. Rather than close our business or stop paying bills, which would further damage the economy, we pushed hard and pivoted our business everywhere we could and ended up having our best year yet! I’m proud we stuck to that. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? I try to surround myself with a wide array of leaders and groups to be a part of. Some people have just one but I feel you can learn something from everyone. When you add in an endless amount of potential knowledge from books and podcasts, I feel all this guides me down the best path. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I have played soccer and trained my entire life and still enjoy it. Being an athlete and living healthy means so much to me. I have developed an intense love for learning as I’ve gotten older. Also I have become fascinated with the stock market and global business affairs. Favorite smartphone app Undoubtedly, my favorite apps are Robinhood and Yahoo Finance. Staying up to date and working on creating long financial security in a diverse portfolio is important for me. I also feel as focused as ever because we are expecting our first child.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I have donated personally and professionally to HeroHomes based in Purcellville. I’ve also served the community as a volunteer Advisory Board Member for Purcellville Parks & Recreation, and volunteered my time with Feed Loudoun, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and several other miscellaneous organizations. Personal background and family information I was born and raised in Loudoun County. I grew up in Bluemont (my house is one of the smaller homes on the property where Bear Chase Brewery now is!). I went to elementary through high school in Purcellville. I now live in Purcellville with my amazing wife and three beautiful children aged three and under. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? My wife was pregnant through almost all of 2020, which made COVID a significantly more scary situation for us. I also quit my ten year career in IT sales in February, 2020 to start my own company, only to have the world shut down a few weeks after we launched. Happy to say that all are doing well! Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Growing up in a single parent, lower income home, I learned at a young age that nothing would be handed to me, it would have to be earned. My biggest motivator had to be my mom, who supported my every ambition and taught me to work hard, play hard, and to follow my heart. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love the outdoors, whether that be hunting, fishing, foraging for morel mushrooms, hiking with the kids and teaching them about critters and bugs, catching crawfish in our local creeks, or even cutting the grass. If I’m outside, I’m happy! Favorite smartphone app I am NOT going to say TikTok (although it’s probably TikTok lol), so I will say something professional like Google Lens. “Elevator speech” about you and your company As the Assistant Director, I am responsible for assisting in planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the department, which include commercial and rural business recruitment, retention and expansion; and research, real estate and marketing activities. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud In 2020, Loudoun County Department of Economic Development flipped our work to small business outreach and support. I was privileged to act as architect of and lead for our small business grant efforts that lead to the distribution of twelve million in grants to almost two thousand Loudoun businesses during the COVID-19 crisis. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My most significant work with the community is when I can engage in active and honest dialogue through public speaking. I’ve had the chance to speak on Metro, the Amazon HQ2 deal, regional collaboration, data centers, rural business development, COVID-19, and more to regional and national groups. Personal background and family information I am anchored in all I do by my husband Matt Campbell. We have two beautiful daughters, Parker (nine) and Piper (six), and with Parker taking acting and Piper taking dance our house is almost always filled with music and shenanigans which is just how we like it! How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? For my family, I came up with a phrase for when it felt like too much: Grace & Space. Whenever you need extra kindness, or quiet to process you say “grace & space” and we are all reminded to breathe, be kind, and that together we can get through it all. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Buddy Rizer took a chance in picking his second in a random lawyer from Ohio. I work hard to make that a good choice. It is not overstating to say that Buddy is one of the best economic developers around. He teaches me in words and actions what it means to be an executive who leads a strong team. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love to get lost in a good book. Fiction, non-fiction, all genres. Great writing can inspire, engage, or provide an escape; whatever the need, language can provide. And you can ask my family, if mommy is reading a good book she can tune out any manner of those shenanigans I mentioned above! Favorite smartphone app If you looked at the percentage of use during quarantine, then UberEats and the Starbucks apps are my favorites, but I have multiple apps for listening to music and podcasts that help provide whatever mood or motivation I need at any moment.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud While creating new programs is challenging and rewarding, what I find most fulfilling is providing direct support to residents in need and helping them reach positive outcomes. Working directly with older adults and caregivers to improve their quality of life is easily my proudest accomplishment.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am most proud of the development of the JK Community Farm and the farm’s ability to empower our volunteer community while providing nutrient dense food for families in our region facing food insecurity.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Being a part of the team to establish Dementia Friendly Leesburg-Loudoun to make Loudoun accessible and inclusive to those with dementia and their caregivers. It is a significant undertaking to educate the community (restaurants, places of worship, grocery stores), but it is crucial that we do so. Personal background and family information I’m originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and while I miss the southwest, I love the Loudoun landscape as well as the friendliness and warmth of the people here. My family and I live in a wonderful community in Leesburg. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? Many older adults suffered from isolation prior to COVID, and unfortunately, COVID greatly exacerbated this issue. Addressing this and serving Loudoun residents in new and innovative ways took significant effort yet has been extremely rewarding. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My dad was my mentor, and instilled in me the virtue of service. He was much older, greatly shaping my passion for supporting older adults. He was also a Jewish American Nazi death camp liberator. He taught me that “darkness will always attack the light,” and how we must always be the light. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I enjoy reading and watercolor painting, and find that both are the very best ways to de-stress. Art has always been a huge part of my life as it’s a significant part of New Mexican culture, and our family business was a fine art brokerage. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Founding the JK Community Farm and developing distribution partnerships with our food pantry partners, as well as corporate partnerships with our generous annual partners such as JK Moving, Truist, Cap Relo, Infinitive, and Pine Ridge Landscaping. Personal background and family information I grew up in Northern Virginia with eight siblings, and two wonderful parents. I have a passion for serving our community, nature, and organic food. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted the JK Community Farm, and the community we serve. As a result of the pandemic, we have pivoted to double our food donations to meet the growing needs of our community, while implementing socially distant field trip options for food education. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? I have been fortunate to have many impactful mentors, including Jennifer Montgomery, CEO of Loudoun Hunger Relief. Jennifer has been an incredible mentor and a key asset to the development of the JK Community Farm. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with her! Personal background and family information I am an acupuncturist and clinical herbalist with over 14 years of clinical experience, specialized training in chronic inflammatory conditions, and over 75,000 patient treatments performed. I founded my clinic with the goal of bringing the missing link of healthcare to my hometown of northern Virginia. My focus has been on treating chronic pain, fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions and women’s health issues. Our similar backgrounds and clinical approaches have developed our relationship of support and encouragement. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud My greatest professional accomplishment would be purchasing and becoming the sole owner of Legacy Orthodontics back in June of 2017. Additionally, I am a partner in a startup company (Movemints) which is now worldwide. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement During the summer of 2020, Loudoun native, Fitz Thomas, tragically drowned. I started a scholarship in Fitz’s honor that provides orthodontic care each year to one student in financial need who could benefit from treatment. Our mission is to pass Fitz’s smile, or legacy, along to others in need. Personal background and family information Not only is Leesburg home to my office, but also my family (wife, son, and dogs). I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I grew up playing lacrosse, soccer, and snowboarding. As an orthodontic patient who required jaw surgery, I knew I wanted to become an orthodontist from a young age. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? During the start of COVID-19, I, like many business owners, had to close my office. This negatively impacted our office, but I made it a priority to take care of my staff and patients as safely as possible. Additionally, I donated my personal protective equipment to hospitals and frontline workers who were in dire need. Personally, the pandemic has been a firm reminder not to take anything for granted. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Dr. Joel Harris has been a professor, friend and mentor to me over the years. He has assisted me professionally and his sense of community/philanthropy has inspired me to do what I can in support of Loudoun. He has shown me that we are better when we all contribute to make our community prosper. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family In my free time, I absolutely love to travel to new mountains for snowboarding. Personal background and family information I come from an Italian family, large and always in the kitchen. I grew up in Sterling and I now live in Leesburg, with my wife Tiffany, our two daughters Lylah and Angelina and our baby son, Bryce. We also have two Golden Retrievers, Bella and Tawny. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? What we thought would be “a few weeks” has turned into a life-changing time in our lives and our business. We have had to completely re-work how we do everything, from the way we welcome guests to the way we purchase our products. Our entire business model has changed, and will most likely remain so. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Michel Richard made me think completely differently about food. His approach was so far outside the box, and I learned to cook with fewer limits. From Jonathan Krinn, I learned the importance of building a relationship with my guests. He is so good at establishing rapport with people. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love to build things. I made the tables in my restaurant, and the furniture in our home. I’m working on restoring a 1966 Ford Truck, from the ground up. I love the outdoors. I love camping, mountain biking, and canoeing. I’m DIY to a fault (ask my wife). Jokes aside, I am most proud of being able to treat my pediatric & adolescent patients. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud There is not one specific accomplishment at Caleb’s Country Services that I am most proud of, however I am proud of where the company started and where it is now. When I started, it was just me and a mower, today we run six crews and have a client list five hundred properties strong. I love learning how to be a better businessman everyday.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I serve on the Board of Advisors and am running consultant to The Marathon Charity Cooperation (MCC), a local non-profit charitable and educational foundation. I also hold regular injury screening & prevention events at local running stores, and serve as a volunteer physician at several marathons.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I started a nationwide non-profit called ATHENAI. In 2020, we released an open letter to colleges with Chinese influence on campuses. It was signed by the majority of College Republican and Democrat leadership. It led to the closure of forty five Confucius Institutes and bipartisan agreement on the dangers of the Chinese Communist Party.

Personal background and family information Born & raised in the Washington DC area, I come from a family of physicians, including my own inspirational father. I grew up in a household that believed helping others was the highest calling one could have in life. We also were a family of sports enthusiasts - particularly tennis! How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? The pandemic overhauled my daily wardrobe: scrubs, surgical cap, N95 mask, face shield, & white coat, plus 3-4 showers a day! There was no rest for my team. Our goal has been to protect ourselves, our patients, and those we love most. We owe all healthcare workers around the globe a debt of gratitude. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My mother, whom I sadly lost in 2020. She devoted her time and her heart to ensuring I was given every opportunity. My mother was the embodiment of generosity, encouraging me to help others and above all, to be kind. She was and always will be my guidepost for everything. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family My favorite hobby is motorsports! I drive a Porsche 911, which I lovingly call my “road scalpel,” due to the surgical precision of its handling. You can often find me at Summit Point Motorsports Park driving on the tracks. Personal background and family information I was born and raised in Virginia. I was homeschooled from fifth to twelfth grade. I then attended Northern Virginia Community College for a year then graduated from George Mason in Spring 2020 with a degree in American Government. My family lives in Round Hill and my parents work at an inner-city Christian School in DC that they founded. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? In late 2019, I purchased a Deli. It had been open since 1980, but needed a facelift. Just as we got things going, Covid hit and I lost a lot of money. It taught me a lot about business and how to handle failure. We ended up having to temporarily close, but hope to open again in the near future. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My Grandfather is my hero. He often tells me “Our conscience is not allegiant to the state or to the culture, but to God. So faith, family, character, moral courage; these are the things you do not want to fail.” I have that framed on my desk. Those are just some of the lessons he has taught me. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I always had a passion for farming. One day I hope to “retire” and farm full time. Currently I raise twenty five angus cattle, but I have bred them all with Wagyu genes. I plan to breed purebred Wagyu, and sell the beef to high end D.C. restaurants. We have been successful in registering thousands of disabled professionals and partnering with leading inclusive companies. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Creating the “Halls of Horror” package and campaign that included a weekend stay at The National Conference Center and tickets to The Arc of Loudoun’s Shocktober annual event. Personal background and family information I was raised in Loudoun County when my family moved from Washington, DC in 1995. Since then, I have graduated from The George Washington University in DC and lived in Nashville, Tennessee. I moved back to Loudoun in 2016 and I recently purchased a home in Sterling, where I am excited to continue to grow my roots here. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? I began my new position at Inclusively in the summer of 2020. Thankfully my company is entirely virtual, so it has been a great change of pace being able to work remotely. Lisa Kimball, CEO of The Arc of Loudoun. Lisa’s encouragement and guidance in following my passions have led to wonderful personal and professional accomplishments in my life. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am very proud to have fought for and successfully achieved expanded cancer coverage for all of Virginia’s firefighters as well as having Post-Traumatic Stress Disordered added as a compensable injury in the state for both firefighters and law officers. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I helped found the Loudoun Career Fire Fighters Foundation 501(c) (3) non-profit. The Foundation provides aid to those in need through charitable contributions, relocation assistance, meal assistance and community outreach. Personal background and family information My family has been in Loudoun for five generations and I was raised in Old Ashburn. I have been married to my beautiful wife Kim for fourteen years and we have a thirteen year old son named John and an eleven year old daughter named Elizabeth. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? Being a first responder, COVID-19 completely changed the way we as a department conducted business. There is no option to work from home, rather we responded to our community in need, getting those infected with COVID19 to the hospital while taking every precaution not to bring it home to my family. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department Assistant, Chief James Williams, has been a professional mentor of mine. His ability to help me see issues from different viewpoints, guides me to make the best possible decisions when being faced with complex issues. Prior to working at Booz Allen, I was part of Accenture Federal’s security practice where I performed cyber assessments, roadmapping, and controls implementation. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I’m very proud of completing my master’s program with a 4.0 GPA in one year (and received a certificate of achievement in recognition of academic excellence), passing the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency training in the same timeframe, and while juggling full-time consulting work. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I’m very involved in the Greek community with St. Katherine’s Greek School & Church. I have volunteered as a Greek school instructor where I teach students of different proficiency levels and different age groups in the language, and received recognition for my mentorship. Personal background and family information I’m Greek-American and enjoy traveling to Greece occasionally to see friends/family. Professionally, the contract/role I was on at Booz Allen had budget cuts due to the pandemic, and even my family’s restaurant (Atlantis) was affected negatively as it had to close its doors after thirty eight years. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My professional mentor was my last manager at Accenture. He worked with me to ensure I was getting what I needed to advance professionally by giving me opportunities for visibility, pushed me to attend conferences to network, gave me training materials to improve my technical skills, etc. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I really enjoy music, and have played the piano (and other instruments) for many years, so I like to jam out on my own or with others. I used to participate in piano competitions and have also played at some local churches and schools. I particularly enjoy playing Greek music due to my roots. Getting to a very high position at my current job - Executive Director of Operations. First one in my family to get a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree. Becoming a Pastor - A dream come true. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Serve Day to beautify Loudoun County and mobilize six hundred volunteers from Community Church to complete much needed projects in the Community. Personal background and family information I’m married to my wonderful wife Elizabeth, who is from Peru, and have three kids. Adriel (thirteen), Valerie (eleven), and Janella (seven). COVID-19 really pushed The Hive Bakeshop to find innovative and cost-effective methods of adapting to new ways of conducting business such as contactless online ordering systems and adapting to crippling supply chain shortages. With some forward thinking and innovative strategies our business grew thirty percent during COVID- 19. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? I have been mentored by many talented individuals - including my parents. However, I would have to say that two exceptional women, Angela Dudek and Audrey Bailey-Burton, taught me one incredible lesson. They both taught me to always deliver on what I promised I could accomplish; to never fall short. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love Peloton! Their bike is a great way to crush some calories but the Peloton Family is a virtual community of people who are connected by music, fitness, and a passion for life. Fortunately, COVID 19 had a limited impact on my life from a personal and professional standpoint, for that I am grateful. As a manager in the construction industry our division saw our best numbers to date. Most others have not had my same experience and I make sure to be considerate. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Many people along the way have helped me become who I am today. I am a very observant person and learn a great deal from interacting with others. Family, friends and colleagues have all had a big impact on my career. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Playing golf and exercise. I try to do something each day to better my well-being. My family and I are members at the Evergreen Country Club. My parents are both retired educators and both my brother and sister are current educators. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? COVID forced me to think outside the box and become a transformational leader and thinker. At the local government level, there is no such thing as eliminating services that are provided to Loudoun’s citizens. But it opened my eyes as to how strong, resilient, and innovative the workforce is. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My parents recently retired after a combined eighty years of teaching. Though they have no professional experience in housing, they nonetheless always encouraged me to follow a career path I was passionate about, pursue public service, give back to the community, and always maintain a sense of humor. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family After a long day, I enjoy coming home and reading (preferably non-fiction). What started several years ago as a New Year’s resolution to read two books a month for the entire year has turned into an annual tradition. Personal background and family information I was born in Fort Worth, Texas. My parents were missionaries while growing up, and we’ve had the privilege of living in the States, Venezuela, and Canada. When people ask where I’m from, I’ll usually say I grew up outside of Toronto, Ontario, where my family of seven lived for almost nine years. Parts of the pandemic have been greatly distressing, with the entire world shutting down and no one knowing exactly how to stop it. The pandemic made me realize I was needed as an advocate for my very own peers in education. Co-creating the LCPS Partner newsletter to educate the business and educational partner community about LCPS teachers’ innovation, dedication, and professionalism helped me refocus my purpose. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Locally I would say Nicole Acosta, who has taught me about the art of navigating through the Loudoun non-profit and development world. Globally, I would have to say my father, mother, and sister. All three have modeled constant learning, traveling, and building upon your skills, while remaining grounded and true to yourself. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Driving or biking in Western Loudoun. I live in the eastern part of the County, so I enjoy taking in the stillness, trees, views, and beauty. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am most proud of achieving my trauma certificate, which I am one of seven nurses at Loudoun who have earned it. The trauma training I received enables me to help patients with trauma events and to teach my colleagues how to cope with these situations. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement 1) Helping others during my three medical missions in developing countries 2) Initiating a study and writing a paper that addresses how healthcare workers manage opioid problems, soon to be published in a nationally recognized professional magazine 3)Training the community through “Stop the Bleed.” Personal background and family information I am thirty eight years old, attended Frostburg State University where I received my BS in Psychology, then attended Shenandoah University’s accelerated nursing program and earned my RN. Majority of my family lives in Maryland. A highlight of every day is talking to my grandma who is one hundred years old. Sadly, she passed away in May. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? Being a nurse on the frontline fighting COVID for over a year required me to adapt to necessary changes in treating patients but never forgetting why I became a nurse, which was to help others. While it has been a challenging year it’s a great feeling to know I have and continue to make a difference. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Stephanie Boese who is the former Trauma Coordinator at Inova Loudoun Hospital has guided me and allowed me to excel in my career while at Loudoun. She’s encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, to take on new and difficult responsibilities. Her feedback and honest critiques of my work are invaluable. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love to travel and have been to a number of different countries for pleasure. One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to take pictures, creating a lifetime of memories. I also enjoy scrapbooking because it allows me to look back on where I’ve been. Favorite smartphone app I enjoy the Tripit app since I am able to download all my travel plans onto one app on my phone and it gives me everything I need for my travel in one location. Just seeing upcoming trips keeps me going towards that trip. Being reminded of my past travels also gives me a sense of satisfaction.

Our clinics provide healthcare to 20,000+ patients annually and train Haitian healthcare professionals. Our work with more than 25 partner schools is anchored in teacher training. We equip and empower Haitians to be the changemakers that Haiti needs and deserves. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud The Community Coalition for Haiti Team transformed an eleven thousand-square-foot facility in Haiti (previously apartments, offices and church) into Primary Care, Physical Therapy and Surgical Clinics – in just 30 days! We all contributed. Doctors scrubbed floors, nurses painted walls, and security guards laid tile! It was true team-building, with lasting impact on our mission and our people. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I left academia in 2007 to join the non-profit sector. I wanted to walk directly with people in need. I found that at the Community Coalition for Haiti. We put food in hungry bellies. We make healthcare available to people who don’t have it. We train teachers who haven’t finished their own education. We transform lives every day. Personal background and family information I grew up in southern Virginia and attended the University of Virginia, Penn State and Georgetown. Working internationally, I was drawn to the DMV but struggled with its anonymity. My family found our forever home in Loudoun in 2016. I am a wife to an LCPS educator and mother to three LCPS students. I also love a hairy dog and a naughty cat. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? The pandemic depleted much of my patience, and I cuss more now than I ever did before. But it also helped me recognize what I can control. Professionally and personally, I’ve been stretched thinner than ever before. By necessity, I’ve focused my energies on where I can have the most impact. And it’s good. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Rev. David Milam is a mentor to me. He’s taught me what patience and grace truly look like, especially during times of confrontation and adversity. He remains calm and thoughtful when most would escalate. He turns the other cheek. I’ve become a better leader and human under his mentorship. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Sitting on the beach, with my toes in the sand, a good book in one hand and a cold beverage in the other. The beach is my happy place and my respite – hands down. Favorite smartphone app I’m currently quite sick of my smartphone and all things screen-based. I have been impacted by loss of revenue, due to in person wreath events and workshop cancellations. My community partners cancelled events. Personally it took a heavy toll, because I am an extrovert. Yet I did pivot during the pandemic, virtual workshops, product sales increased & deeper appreciation. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My dad has been a mentor my entire life. He encouraged me to strike out as an entrepreneur, providing guidance from his own experiences as a veteran-based small biz owner. He serves others as an active martial arts black belt instructor, and I learn from his love, precision and focus to good work. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud My proudest accomplishment and what makes me feel most rewarded pertains to the COVID-19 response. I successfully managed to facilitate coveted tests and my organization was able to make testing readily available to the Loudoun County Community. Since March 2020 we have tested over 30,000 community members. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My coordination of food drives to support Loudoun Hunger Relief; providing support during COVID-19 to the Loudoun Free Clinic to help patients reserve tests and results at Zero Cost. Also coached field hockey on a volunteer basis, allowing me to work with athletes, contributing to their increase in confidence and communication skills through sports and teamwork. Personal background and family information I have four immediate family members, my mom, my dad, and my sister. I have a very large network of family (over one hundred people!). I am grateful to come from a large and supportive family! My parents instilled the importance of family and community into my sister’s and my perspectives. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? My sister is immunocompromised and when the pandemic reached Virginia I knew my exposure could jeopardize her health. As a family, the decision was made that she would move to my parents house, also medically vulnerable. Keeping my family safe and serving the community became my whole focus. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My first mentor was Leslie Pereira. A Communications and Public Information Manager she taught me to communicate professionally, pay attention to detail, and have pride in myself and my work. I also encountered many amazing Clinical Directors during my tenure at INOVA who recognized my abilities and took time outside of their own departments to provide guidance, mentor, and eventually push me to move into the position I am currently in. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I enjoy various outdoor activities such as hiking, tennis, golf, rucking (walking with a weighted backpack!), and rollerblading. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud Opening up the first Stretch Zone in Virginia has been my proudest moment. It was a big risk at the time since it was such a new concept & the first to open in the state not knowing how residents would respond to it. On top of that, it was all happening when we had our first child and just lost my dad to cancer. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Working with the local high schools and sports leagues have been both fun and rewarding. We donate to the programs and sponsor a lot of the area high schools. We also go to their games and stretch them out for free before their games. It’s fun to work with the kids and see how our stretching helps them. Personal background and family information Born and raised in Loudoun County, same for my whole family. My grandparents farm used to be where Redskins Park and 1757 is now. I have lived in Sterling and Ashburn for over thirty seven years. Have a wife of nine years from Loudoun and a three year old daughter named Harper Lee.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? At the very least, the pandemic has impacted my personal and professional mindset. Although I have always been a proponent of impact and giving back, the pandemic has heightened my desire to seize every moment and value people, relationships and service.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? COVID has made me work ten times harder to make sure I provide not only for my family, but for my employees and my community. I know making it through this is probably one of the hardest things I have done personally and professionally, but I know if I can make it through this I can make it through anything.

Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My mentor relationships evolve based on the “seasons” in my life. I have been mentored by supervisors, community constituents, colleagues and peers. Each relationship has challenged my thinking, pushed me beyond my comfort zone and prepared me for the next level.

Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? I have a lot of entrepreneurs in my family, my dad had his own business, my wife has her own small businesses and my cousins have their own businesses, so they have all inspired and helped. As for a celebrity mentor would have to be Mark Cuban, simply because of his straightforward “get it done” attitude.

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love to explore travel, wineries, good food, and interior design. People and beautiful events bring joy to my heart. Music is my happy place and I love to dance and create beautiful cocktails. Gift giving and beautiful wrapping paper also brings me lots of JOY! Favorite smartphone app As cliché as this may be, Amazon helps me to achieve BIG wins as a busy mom, wife, professional and business owner. From last minute gifts and partly planning materials to household necessities, Amazon always comes through. It is hard to believe that life existed before the conveniences of Amazon!

Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I enjoy working out, playing sports and getting together with friends at local breweries and restaurants. A new recent hobby (having more down time due to the lockdowns) has been reading books on different aspects of my current profession and personal growth. Favorite smartphone app Honestly I am the least technological person I know. I’m also the oldest thirty seven year old I know. I don’t really have any apps on my smartphone. If I had to pick one it would be the Nest app, so I can control the heating & air conditioning at my home and studio. Sorry, nothing exciting here...

“Elevator speech” about you and your company Bear Chase Brewing Company is a destination farm brewery and manor built on thirty three wooded acres in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains in Bluemont, Virginia. As General Manager I am proud to welcome guests to our property to take in the experience and enjoy all we have to offer, including our delicious craft brews. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud In 2020 I was humbled to be nominated, and win, Best Boss in Loudoun’s Best of Loudoun poll. In 2021 I was nominated again, and finished as a Top Three Finalist. Along with that, Bear Chase has won Best of Loudoun: Best Brewery in 2020 & 2021, and Loudoun’s Favorite Brewery in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement During the COVID-19 shutdowns, Bear Chase introduced Bear Chase Helps, a free pop-up food pantry established to help local hospitality employees keep food on their tables while out of work. We hosted 3 separate events and were able to help over three hundred families and donated over ten thousand dollars worth of food. Personal background and family information My father immigrated to the United States from Cuba in the 1960’s and I am part of the first generation born in the United States. I moved to Loudoun in 2012 to further my hospitality career and met my wife, Karen. We currently live in Leesburg with our newborn daughter, Sophia, and two dogs. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? COVID changed the way that Bear Chase operates on a day to day basis. The ever-changing rules and guidelines caused many sleepless nights to try and figure out how to navigate a business through it and ensure we were keeping up with the latest guidance. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My father is my personal and professional mentor. He has been working in hospitality my entire life and is the reason I am in it as well. I have always been able to turn to him for help and guidance throughout my career. He is my ethical and moral compass and I have always wanted to make him proud. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Spending time outside. On my days off you can typically find me out in the yard doing some yard work, or hanging out by the pool with a cold beer. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud Playing professional baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals Organization is the accomplishment I am most proud of. This accomplishment was a dream come true. Ever since I started playing baseball as a kid, my dream and “Plan A” was to play professionally. I am proud to say I accomplished that dream. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I am extremely proud to serve on the Board of Directors for Loudoun Cares where I serve on the external development committee, and also co-chair the Marketing sub-committee. Serving on the board has allowed me to make an impact in the community and to help serve those in need. Personal background and family information As retired corporate advertising executives, my parents now work for non-profits. My dad is the Executive Director for Project Mend-A-House and my mom is the Community Educator for ACTS, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services. My wife is a School Psychologist for Loudoun County Public Schools. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced what it means to give back to my community. This time has been extremely hard on a lot of families and businesses over the last two years and I have tried to help in any way that I can, whether that be raising money through my nonprofit or helping local businesses. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My mentors are my parents. While encouraging me to follow my dream of playing professional baseball, they also taught me to be humble and kind, to help others, and to be civic minded. By sharing their interest in business, I too gravitated towards a similar career. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love to golf! As a new member of Heritage Country Club, I try to golf as much as I can. It also gives me the opportunity to spend time with friends that I have known my entire life and networking. “Elevator speech” about you and your company Walsh Family Wine was founded on the belief that Loudoun County is home to some of the most expressive, unique, and interesting vineyard sites in all of Virginia. Our wines demonstrate the potential of the finest sites found along the Blue Ridge, Catoctin and Short Hill mountain ranges. At the heart of our project, and echoed in all segments of our business, is our passion and respect for the incredible vineyard sites we farm. We believe that in being stewards of these exceptional sites, we are able to produce wines of great character that are distinctive of place rather than process.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud Building my business from scratch with no formal business education has been a lot of hard work, but the most rewarding work. I have been able to grow my business every year and meet every enrollment goal I set out for. We have expanded exponentially over the years and continue to grow. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My most significant nonprofit involvement is co-founding Life After Miscarriage Perinatal Loss and Stillbirth. We hold monthly peer support groups, remembrance events, and created a close-knit group here in Loudoun County that continue to support each other every single day. Personal background and family information I am originally from North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte with a BA in Dance. I met my amazing husband in 2008, and this year we celebrated nine years of marriage. We have four children, two in heaven, and two here on Earth. My family is my entire world. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? As soon as schools closed, I took Tiny Toes Dance online within a day to continue providing our students quality dance education while staying safe. It’s been an amazing journey teaching students all over the world. Personally it has given me unimaginable quality time with my family. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? My husband is my personal and professional mentor. He pushes me to be better, braver, and stronger than I ever thought I could be. He has taught me patience, understanding, and provides me peace with life. He is my biggest supporter while also keeping me grounded and focused. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I am an artist and love to create one of a kind items. When I find the time, I create custom clothing, dance costumes, and specialty items. I can sew, embroider, crochet, and vinyl decal almost anything. My mom recently called me her own personal Etsy store. Favorite smartphone app Google Photos! Since pivoting to virtual classes, I am constantly recording, editing, and uploading media. The Google Photos app allows me to instantly access images and videos from my phone and computer without slow file transfers.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Opening the Walsh Family tasting room. It has allowed me to meet so many amazing people in our community that I may have never had the honor to meet otherwise. The diversity and richness of our community means that the space is always full of laughter and people telling great stories, which I love! My mission is to create a respite - a space where all feel welcome, a hub for community gathering, and an experience where everyone leaves feeling relaxed! Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement At Walsh Family Wine, I spearheaded the creation of a wine called “What Will The Women Drink,” which is a response to the stereotype that women only enjoy sweet and light wines. (There’s a great story I’m always happy to tell behind the name!) This wine is a fundraiser for charities supporting Women’s health, rights and safety, a cause dear to my heart. Personal background and family information I was born and raised in a very small and rural town in Northwest Georgia. I spent most of my childhood at home, or visiting family in Northern Texas. After high school, I lived in Savannah, Atlanta, and Chicago, before settling here in Virginia. How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted you personally and/or professionally? Professionally, it forced us to think outside the box in order to find a way to continue wine sales while also keeping both our employees and customers safe. This resulted in the creation of DRINKWELL, a weekly virtual tasting event that became a wonderful connector during a very isolated time. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you? Kristi Delovitch, district manager for Winebow. Kristi showed me that women can make their own paths to success in the wine industry. We can dream up roles which we find most inspiring, forge new routes and new careers, and break the molds of how it has always been done before. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Traveling with my husband, Nate. I always joke that traveling is a necessity for me, and generally what I am willing to spend all my money on. Great travel experiences push me outside my comfort zone, which sparks incredible creativity. There’s still so much I hope to see! Favorite smartphone app The Podcast app!
