Volunteers make the old Yimbun Station greener

Landcare (BVKL) volun- teers were pleased to work with cyclists from the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association to plant more eucalypts on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Yimbun, north of Toogoolawah on Sunday March 19 and Saturday March 25.

BVKL president Murray Oke said the Narrow-leaved Ironbarks and Queensland Blue Gums have been planted to create a canopy that will provide food, shelter and habitat for koalas and other wildlife.

“It was great to see so many cyclists enthusiastic to improve both the environmental and recreational values of the Rail Trail, with several volunteers even making the trip out from Brisbane,” Mr Oke said.

“We appreciate the support of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Somerset Regional Council, and the Picnic Society,” Mr Oke said.

Record Numbers

The Lockyer Valley Art Galler y has recorded one of its highest numbers of monthly visitors since the start of the COVID.

More than 1800 visitors visited in February.

Additionally, more than 180 people came through the doors when the Gatton Library opened on Saturday morning service of the recently endorsed six-month trial.

Lockyer Valley Libraries ceased offering a Saturday library service during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, however a recent Library Customer Survey highlighted that 56 per cent of respondents wanted the library reopen on Saturday.
