Let the Body Lead

“The body is designed to win”

I have always said to my clients, the body never lies. I actually have lots of little sayings I use in client sessions.

The body is designed to win.

The body is like a sponge drinking up every experience you have. If you don’t wring it out you are walking around like a heavy wet sponge

Your nervous system is your guide

How do you feel? How do you want to feel?

What do you need?

I say all of these things to help my clients understand what is needed to heal the body, mind and soul But to also understand how the body and mind work, and how we can best support them to be healthy and happy

The body is the unconscious mind, the holder of all your stories, emotions and experiences. In order for the body to be supple, strong and healthy it must be free of congestion, inflammation and toxins. What contributes to congestion, inflammation and toxicity in the body is nutrition, anything you ingest, inject, inhale or absorb Anything your think and feel and experience

This is why I teach my clients about the 5 Foundation Pillars of Health and Happiness

But I digress, I am not here to teach that to you today I wish to tell you about the body and why it is so important that we allow the body to be the leader

Katie, what do you mean? What on earth are you talking about?

Ever heard the term grounding? What about disassociation?

Today we have the most disassociated population, we have so many things to distract us and take us out of, or away from the awareness of our bodies If we are not “grounded” we are not “in” our bodies. Meaning we are dissociated from our bodies and therefore are not feeling what our bodies are trying to tell us.

Your body is an amazing network of systems, each one talks to the other. Depending on what is happening within and around the body will determine what signals are sent to the brain and made aware to you. How does the body speak, pain, pain, pain. Physical and emotional pain. But in general feelings, so we can understand what is helping us or hindering us by being connected to our bodies and feeling for the signs.

After a big Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and quite a few beverages, we all hit that point of over indulgence and regret the amount we have eaten. In this situation the body is speaking to you with abdominal discomfort, fatigue and maybe even a headache. So we all then probably lay down, put on a movie and disassociate from the body until the discomfort passes. You see this is what most of us do every day.

Hard day at work, feeling overwhelmed? Do you come home and have a beer or glass of wine to take away the discomfort? We have the best distractor in our hands now most of the day, scrolling away our feelings Our world today is the best distraction tool we have, constantly taking us away from our body and our feelings

YOU ARE NOT GROUNDED You are not present in your body Therefore, you are ignoring the cues the body is constantly sending you that it is not able to process all the food, toxins, feelings and stimuli that is has been exposed to So you can imagine years and years of ignoring all these cues, then suddenly one day getting a shock when you have a health crisis. It is like turning off the warning lights in your car and getting a shock when your car breaks down. Again, I often say to my clients, become grounded into the truth of who you are. That means, listen to the body. Let the body lead.

How? We must slow down, be present. Start with simple conscious breathing. If you have been in my clinic, you will be aware that I always direct you back to your breath. Then identify how do you feel, physically, mentally and emotionally, what unmet need is your body trying to bring to your awareness.

A headache might mean you are dehydrated and you need more water. Or if you are chronically dehydrated you might need more minerals and salts so you will need to supplement with electrolytes.

Anxiety is just your body trying to get your attention that something in your life is out of balance. If we can slow down and let the unmet feeling bubble up, it will move through the body and be released.

Let the body lead, means allowing the body to tell you what is for your greatest good. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. If it makes you feel sick, don’t eat it. The fastest way back to health and happiness is…………..LET THE BODY LEAD.

I hope this article helps you to understand the relationship you have with yourself; your body and your emotions. It is the most important relationship you will every have. Your life literally depends on. I hope to see you in clinic one day soon.

Have a wonderful festive season, and thank you for all your support this year.
