The Pieces of the Puzzle are Coming Together for the Capricorn Coast Toy Library
By Jillian Neyland
Anyone who has ever started a tricky jigsaw puzzle knows the routine. You are allured by the idea of the finished product, and you whole-heartedly commit to the challenge. You sit down with a cup of tea and think of how lovely it will look finished in a few hours. You come back to the table 3 months later and the cat has been sleeping on the box, and some of the pieces you had sorted now seem to belong in a different part of the picture.
Overwhelmed but undeterred, and with the help of encouraging friends and lots of coffee, you finally manage to get the jigsaw puzzle almost finished. It's a triumphant moment when you are about to put the last piece in place.
That is how Jillian Neyland and the Capricorn Coast Toy Library committee are feeling. The past few weeks have really seen their puzzle take shape. Business, banking and legal requirements were finalised, a location in Yeppoon was found, and several donations and grants were received which secured funding to purchase a starter kit of toys, a laptop and the specialty toy library online operating systems.
With Christmas just around the corner, many families are tightening the purse strings Jillian hopes that many will choose to purchase a 2024 Toy Library membership as a way to get more bang for buck. The Toy Library is set to open on Saturday 27th January and member families will have access to a diverse range of toys, games, puzzles and active play equipment. There will be two borrowing sessions a week held at the new Cordingley Street address.
For the majority of the school holidays, committee members will be very busy sorting through bulk toy purchases and donations, entering information into the library catalogue, and processing memberships. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help clean toys, catalogue toys, build shelving and so on, are welcome to get in contact.
