NEW HEARING SOUND SYSTEM We are proud to announce that as a result of the proceeds of the Ian McKellen show here last March we have now installed a brand new sound system to aid those with a hearing impairment. To access this all you need do is download the App called ‘Sennheiser Mobileconnect’ from your App or Google store and then when you are actually in our Auditorium you then need to connect your device to the ‘Mobile Connect’ WiFi network.

Then open the APP and select ‘Hearing support’ and connect your headset to receive additional enhanced audio. For a fee of £1 we can supply you with headphones which you can use and take away with you.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH We currently have a Community Choir, Youth Theatre, Arts Classes and a range of opportunities for young and old. You can read more about this at our Community dedicated section on pages 14 and 15.

Beecham House is a retirement home with a difference: it specifically caters for former artistes including one-time opera singers Cissy (Pauline Collins), Reginald (Tom Courtenay) and Wilf (Billy Connolly). Once part of a quartet, the three still take part in an annual concert to celebrate the birthday of composer Giuseppe Verdi. But this year things are complicated by the arrival of the fourth member of their quartet, Jean (Maggie Smith), a die-hard diva who also happens to be Reginald’s ex-wife. Children’s writer and illustrator, James Mayhew, was a big hit with audiences when he performed with BBC NOW at Hafren last September. With his vivid illustrations, timed to the last brushstroke, coming to life at his easel and projected onto a large screen, James will paint live to the gorgeously melodic, strikingly dramatic music of Humperdinck, Dukas, Grieg and Mussorgsky.

Each piece in this programme tells wonderful stories and takes us to faraway places whether it’s the atmospheric expanses of Sibelius’ Finland, the unusual welcome at Hitchcock’s Bates Motel or Mussorgsky’s magnificent Gate of Kiev. All in all, a captivating, sensory event for people of all ages.

A stripped back and edgy contemporary dance work, performed and watched around a revolving set, six bodies push against each other in a constant flow of transformation.

Their never-ending effort is put into every continuous and minute moment. It is all for the greater good, and the common goal. Every moment counts, and everyone’s effort matters.

These unique international choreographers and performers (including Eddie Ladd) were brought together to find a new way to collaborate. Produced in the UK by Gwyn Emberton Dance, iCoDaCo (International Contemporary Dance Collective) is a biennial intercultural project, bringing dance artists and producers from across the globe to collaborate and make contemporary dance.

Everyone’s got a song, and if there’s one thing Danny Walkman is good at, it’s getting people to tell him what their song is. Peggy doesn’t give much away, so it’s a race against time for Danny to find, and play, Peggy’s song.

Ready to go on a journey like no other?

This Autumn, Winners of BBC’s ‘The Naked Choir’, The Sons of Pitches are taking you on an A Cappella journey ‘Around The World’!

They’ve sung 100 UK number ones in one night, they’ve channel hopped around the world of television but now they are singing songs from all over planet Earth. The boys will be attempting to leave no stone unturned as they perform tunes from the US to Sweden, Iceland to Japan and Australia to Colombia.

There’ll be multiple languages, numerous styles of music and plenty of hits by some of the biggest international artists out there.

From your five a day to the latest weight loss advice, consumers have been presented with some remarkable nutrition plans down the years but none so delightful and memorable as the one enjoyed by the old lady in the nursery rhyme There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly. First written as a song in 1953 it was a chart topping hit for singer, actor and all round good guy Burl Ives before being adapted into a best selling book by Pam Adams a few years later.

This version, found in schools, nurseries and homes across the world is celebrating its forty fifth anniversary and to mark the occasion popular Children’s author Steven Lee (How The Koala Learnt To Hug, Don’t Dribble On The Dragon) has turned this much loved tale into a magical musical stage show.

It’s the perfect family treat you can enjoy between meals without ruining your appetite!

On the day of the famous annual fair, the town of Faldum receives an unexpected visit.

A wanderer offers to grant a wish to anyone who wants one. Before long, the city is transformed. Mansions stand where mud huts once squatted, and beggars ride around in horse drawn carriages. And one man wishes to be turned into a mountain.

Written and performed by former Glastonbury Poetry Slam Champion Toby Thompson, I Wish I was a Mountain uses rhyme, live music, and just a smattering of metaphysical philosophy to boldly reimagine Hermann Hesse’s classic fairy-tale.

Newtown artist Brian Jones’s new exhibition at the Hafren has taken three years for him to complete. All are oils on canvas and most are of his favourite locations.

Our Conference rooms come with wifi, interactive whiteboard, projector, flipchart and pens as standard and we are able to offer catering to suit all requirements.

Brian says “While I try to convey the energy and vibrancy of each scene, I also strive to achieve a sense of calm. I love the idea of communicating aspects that might not at first be obvious: The more you look, the more you see. As the years go by, my unique recognisable style, along with my technique is continually evolving. Hopefully the quality of the new paintings reflect my artistic commitment to all my work.”

Telephone bookings will be diverted to an answerphone for the 30 minutes prior to a performance to allow Box Office staff to serve personal callers.

PRINT AT HOME TICKETS We now offer the option for online bookers to print their own tickets at home. You would just need to select ‘Print at home’ when you checkout and you will then receive an email with a pdf link to your tickets. If you click that link you will then be able to view them and then print them. Just bring them with you and walk straight to the auditorium.

POST Address: Box Office, The Hafren, Llanidloes Road, Newtown, Powys SY16 4HU. Give the name of the performance, the number of tickets (including any concessions), your name, address and daytime telephone number.

Enclose a cheque for the total amount made out to ‘Hafren-NPTC Group’ with the cheque card number on the reverse side. Add £1 to the total if you wish the tickets to be posted to you.

REFUNDS & EXCHANGES Hafren appreciates customers’ commitment to the theatre in booking early for events and recognises that changes of plan can occur.

On these occasions, if the tickets are returned to the Box Office we will attempt to re-sell them to another customer. This cannot be guaranteed as all of the theatre’s unsold tickets

will be sold first. If successful in re-selling the tickets, the Box Office will issue a voucher to you for use against any future booking.

Credit vouchers can only be issued to the original purchaser of the ticket. It is regretted that, in line with most other professional theatres, cash refunds cannot be made on tickets already purchased.

DISABLED FACILITIES There are five reserved parking spaces for Blue Badge holders near to the front doors of the theatre. Patrons in wheelchairs should enter via the main entrance. There is level access into the Box Office, Gallery Bar and Auditorium. Spaces for up to 6 wheelchair users are available in front of the main seating. This should be reserved in advance. Bright, tactile signs indicate the location of the toilets, including a dedicated toilet with wheelchair access. Please call the Box Office to discuss our hearing loop system. Headsets are also available on request.

A large print copy of the theatre’s events is available on request. There is a new hearing sound system installed for the benefit of the hard of hearing.

HYNT SCHEME If you need support or assistance to attend a performance at a theatre or arts centre then you may be eligible to join Hynt.

Hynt is a new national access scheme that works with theatres and arts centres in Wales to make sure there is a consistent offer available for visitors who are impaired in any way or who have specific access requirements. PARTY BOOKING RATES These are available for most performances to groups of 10 and over. One free ticket is available for every 10 tickets booked. Please confirm with the box office that the party rate applies to the performance you wish to book. For groups over 25, call Del Thomas, Marketing Manager, on 01686 614556 to discuss larger discounts.
