Hafren // Ticketing News 03

TICKETING NEWS Welcome to the new and improved Hafren Brochure which as always is packed full of all the shows that we have coming up this Autumn. We have decided to produce a shorter brochure in order to keep the content as fresh as possible and to update you all more frequently. Our website and Facebook pages will always have the most up-to-date information as they are easy to update daily but we will ensure that as many shows as possible are included in our printed brochures and by producing them more often we can bridge that gap. We will be producing a brochure in November, January, March, May and September and for those with internet access it is still best to sign up for our monthly email newsletter by going to our website or by clicking on the link on our Facebook page to receive the very latest information.

“Triumphant, audacious and impossible to forget.” - Justin Chang, LOS ANGELES TIMES

American dark comedy drama in which a mother becomes frustrated at the local police force’s ineptitude to solve her daughter’s murder.

Set in the glamour of 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion.

When no potential perpetrators have been identified and the investigation slowly grinds to a halt, Mildred (Frances McDormand) takes matters into her own hands to ensure that the media, local citizens and the police take her plight seriously and find her daughter’s killer.

Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love.

BING CROSBY FRED ASTAIRE MARJORIE REYNOLDS Based on the unbelievable but true events, I, TONYA is a darkly comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy was forever defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived, and even more poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan. Featuring an iconic turn by Margot Robbie as the fiery Harding I, TONYA is an absurd, irreverent, and piercing portrayal of Harding’s life and career in all of its unchecked––and checkered––glory.

Screen legends Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire sing and dance their way into your heart in one of the most timeless holiday classics ever. Featuring the Academy Award-winning song, “White Christmas”, Crosby plays a song and dance man who leaves showbiz to run an inn that is open only on holidays. Astaire plays his former partner and rival in love.

If you’ve never been to a classical, orchestral concert before, and are perhaps nervous about giving it a go, this is the one for you! Popular BBC broadcaster Lynn Bowles presents this fantastically varied and colourful experience - introducing each piece of music, the stories they tell and what to listen out for. Hearing the 80-strong BBC National Orchestra of Wales at full throttle in music from Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird or Star Wars will pin you to the back of your seat, but in pieces like Vaughan Williams’ exquisite The Lark Ascending or John Williams’ heart-breaking main theme from Schindler’s List, you’ll also experience the luscious warmth and delicacy that an orchestra’s colour palette can paint. And talking of painting – children’s author and illustrator James Mayhew (the Katie and Ella Bella Ballerina books) will be creating pictures in the moment, during the works by Britten and Stravinsky: all projected onto a big screen.

TREDEGAR BAND THE BATTLE OF THE

ANCRE

AND THE ADVANCE OF THE TANKS (1917)

The Battle of the Ancre and the Advance of The Tanks (1917), is a little known masterpiece of British non-fiction cinema which documents the autumn and winter stages of the Somme campaign on the Western Front. Including the first ever scenes of tanks in battle, Battle of the Ancre also conveys, with power and artistry, the difficulties experienced by the British Army as it fought over ground beset in a sea of mud. Made by the same team as The Battle of the Somme, many consider The Battle of the Ancre as the better film cinematically and it was very popular on release. Campwaith o sinema ffeithiol sy’n dangos golygfeydd o’r Battle of the Ancre. Tickets FREE - Please contact Box Office on 01686 614555 to book tickets. Running time: 70 mins

The origins of Tredegar Band can be traced back to 1849, although it wasn’t until 1876 following victory at the Welsh National Eisteddfod that they were formally constituted. History shows that early contesting victories were sporadic, although over the last 40 years they have become one of the world’s elite performers, as well as multiple winners of major contests - claiming British Open titles in 2010 and 2013. 2018 has seen the band play a major role in the 70th anniversary celebrations of the National Health Service - giving the world premiere of a new commission both in their home town, and in becoming the first brass band to perform in The Speakers House in the heart of the Palace of Westminster. In May they also performed with Tim Minchin at the Old Vic Theatre’s 200th Anniversary Bicentenary Ball and recently gave a promenade concert at the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Austria. They will return to Austria in November to perform at the Brucknerhaus as part of the prestigious Linz Brass Festival. Perfformiad bythgofiadwy gan y band pres poblogaidd yma. SPEAKERS FROM THE EDGE

STEVE PEAT BIKES & BEERS

A Working Class Tale of Life, Labour and Love. Written by Meredydd Barker

Shortlisted for Best Playwright - Wales Theatre Awards.

Mountain biking superstar Steve Peat tells the story of his illustrious racing career; the bikes, the world cups, the parties and the pursuit of the seemingly elusive World Championship title which some thought might never come!

Aneurin Bevan and Jennie Lee were comrades and flatmates who together fought and preached for socialism as they saw it; he the Tredegar firebrand on the Labour backbenches, she the miner’s daughter from Fife who became a Socialist MP before she was old enough to vote.

In Bikes & Beers, Steve takes audiences along the journey that saw him rise from plumbing to podiums and become one of the most successful mens downhill racers of all time, showing just how the man who wouldn’t back down earned his place as a legend in the sport of mountain biking!

Then they were married; he deeply in love with her; she on the rebound from a tragic love affair. Both of them were loved and loathed by their fellow MP’s. Life together unfolded through the desolate war years, the trials of founding the NHS, and the vicious internal feuds of the 1950’s. This is the story of a partnership that became one of the outstanding political marriages of the twentieth century.

Yma bydd y pencampwr beicio Steve Peat yn adrodd ei stori am ei yrfa beicio enwog.

ANNA-LISA COLEMAN

SARA PHILPOTT

Early September End of November 2018

Early December End of March 2019

Anna-Lisa Coleman was born in North London in 1971. At 16 years she attended Barnet Art College, Southgate College and later graduated from Middlesex University with a BA Honours Degree in 1995. Whilst teaching at Herefordshire College of Arts she also graduated with a PGCE from University of Wales Newport.

Sara Philpott studied at Central St Martins and lives and works in Mid Wales. Often her subject matter is the realm where vegetation and landscape meet human imagination and cultivation. Her paintings are made with thin layers of translucent oil paint and are often richly detailed and allegorical.

Hills, cloudscapes and night skies recur in her paintings and more recently, the figure has begun to dominate in her ongoing series of ‘Goddesses’. Her paintings are held in private collections all over the world and she exhibits regularly throughout mid Wales. A keen marathon runner in the famously tough endurance ‘Man V Horse’ held on her home turf, you will most likely find her amidst the breathtakingly scenic forestry trails above Llanwrtyd Wells. www.annalisacoleman.com

This exhibition also includes drawings and printmaking experiments related to a new publication she has produced with ‘The Old Stile Press’ featuring the poem ‘What on Earth’ by Christopher Meredith with whom she has frequently collaborated notably with Gwasg Gregynog. www.saraphilpott.com

will be sold first. If successful in re-selling the tickets, the Box Office will issue a voucher to you for use against any future booking. FFÔN Ffoniwch y swyddfa docynnau ar 01686 614555 (gweler uchod amserau agor y swyddfa). Gallwch dalu trwy gerdyn credyd neu ddebyd (isafswm o £10.00 ar gardiau debyd). Gallwch hefyd archebu seddau ymlaen llaw a bydd y rhain yn cael eu cadw am bum diwrnod gwaith. Mae’n ddrwg gan Hafren na all y seddau gael eu cadw os na fydd tâl wedi’i dderbyn o fewn y cyfnod hwn. Bydd eich galwadau i archebu dros y ffôn yn cael eu hailgyfeirio i beiriant ateb yn ystod 30 munud cyn perfformiadau er mwyn galluogi staff y Swyddfa Docynnau i ddelio gydag ymwelwyr sy’n cyrraedd. TRWY’R POST Cyfeiriad : Swyddfa Docynnau, Hafren, Ffordd Llanidloes, Y Drenewydd, Powys SY16 4HU. Nodwch enw’r perfformiad, y nifer o docynnau y carech eu harchebu (gan gynnwys unrhyw docynnau mantais), eich enw, eich cyfeiriad a’ch rhif ffôn yn ystod y dydd. Amgaewch siec am y cyfanswm a’i gwneud yn daladwy i ‘Hafren-NPTC Group’ gyda rhif eich cerdyn sieciau ar y cefn. Ychwanegwch £1 at y cyfanswm ac os ydych yn dymuno i’ch tocynnau gael eu postio atoch. AD-DALIADAU A CHYFNEWIDIADAU Mae Hafren yn gwerthfawrogi ymrwymiad cwsmeriaid i’r theatr trwy archebu’n gynnar ar gyfer achlysuron ac yn cydnabod y gall newidiadau ddigwydd o ran cynlluniau. Mewn achos o’r fath, os bydd tocynnau’n cael eu dychwelyd i’r swyddfa docynnau, gwnawn bob ymdrech i’w hail-werthu i gwsmeriaid eraill. Ni ellir sicrhau hyn gan y bydd tocynnau’r theatr yn cael eu gwerthu’n gyntaf. Os bydd y theatr yn llwyddo i ail-werthu’r tocynnau, bydd y swyddfa docynnau’n trefnu credyd i chi am werth y tocynnau, i chi ei ddefnyddio wrth archebu unrhyw docynnau yn y dyfodol. Bydd y trefniant hwn yn gymwys ar gyfer y prynwr gwreiddiol y tocynnau. Yn anffodus, yn unol â mwyafrif o theatrau proffesiynol eraill, nid yw’n bosibl gwneud ad-daliadau ariannol am docynnau sydd wedi’u prynu eisoes.
