Pursuing passion in life towards achieving goals abroad - Madeliene F. Baguyot

They say that if one wants something, that person will find a way. Living and working in the UAE for five years now, several people have asked and wondered why Madeliene F. Baguyot, a senior administration officer for a real estate firm in Dubai, gave up her nursing profession and went down a different career path. Baguyot, 31, practiced her profession in the Philippines for almost two years in various health care settings, particularly the ER unit, however, while in Dubai, she pursued her real passion in life and worked towards achieving her goals.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate, she passed the board exams in 2013. Two years after, after realizing that she needed to earn more money, she decided to move overseas--which is in Dubai, a city that is thousands of miles away from the Philippines.

“During my first three months here, it was not easy. I had to support myself and learn to be completely independent, which despite being stressful, proved to be an important life lesson for me,” she said.

Initially, she had a hard time finding a job that was related to her profession. Hopeless, she realized that she needed to think of an alternate career path to survive overseas. She eventually secured a job as a receptionist for an IT infrastructure company. She had worked in the same company for two years until she ended up realizing that she wanted to challenge herself more in her career and decided to move to a different company.

Baguyot didn’t entirely distance herself from her profession. Through the Filipino Institute, a training institute based in the UAE that offers short certification courses and professional diploma programs, she volunteers as a trainer for Caregiver and Nursing Assistant courses. “I hope that by sharing my experiences and knowledge with my fellow kabayans, I will encourage them to follow their dreams and goals,” she added.

“I can say that being part of the Filipino Institute has helped me boost my confidence and has given me a chance to achieve my real passion: teaching,” Baguyot said, adding that despite wanting to be a mentor since she was young, she still ended up studying a nursing course instead of education since they were more demanding during her college years.

For her, it’s not about what degree one has, it’s about pursuing passion and achieving goals in life.

“Instead of limiting myself in hopes of potential opportunities just coming to me, I choose to explore options that were more out of the box than what I had been traditionally taught. Personally, I am so grateful to be doing what I am currently doing in life and I hope I can continue to inspire more Filipinos here in the UAE,” she further added.
