NOTES

WOMEN MEAN BUSINESS!

In 1972 4.6% of all businesses were owned by women. That number is now 42%. Franchising has much to do with this 10x increase. While the advancements we have made as a society have been vast, gender inequality remains a challenge for women of all ages across the globe. Even in the United States, the International Labor Organization estimates that women encounter almost a 20% pay gap compared with the salaries of male counterparts. In countries on the path to development, gender inequality is manifested in other ways throughout a woman’s life cycle as she seeks education, healthcare, work, political participation, and acquisition of assets.

It’s mind boggling to think that women have only had the right to vote in our country for 103 years. Achieving this milestone required a lengthy and difficult struggle; victory took decades of agitation. Beginning in the mid-19th century, woman suffrage supporters lectured, wrote, marched, lobbied, and practiced civil disobedience to achieve what many Americans considered radical change.

First introduced in Congress in 1878, a woman suffrage amendment was continuously proposed for the next 41 years until it passed both houses of Congress in 1919 and was ratified by the states in 1920. The campaign for woman suffrage was long, difficult, and sometimes dramatic, yet

ratification did not ensure full enfranchisement. Many women remained unable to vote long into the 20th century because of discriminatory laws.

If barriers in business and life are a historical and present day fact, the reality is that women will not be held down and as the world changes, women are more and more gaining their rightful seat at the global business table while their contributions make the world a better place.

The basis of franchising is shared education and within our lifetime, many noble women’s groups have been formed to support and sustain women owned businesses. These associations have advanced not only women owned businesses but also contributed greatly to the overall success of all businesses. When women owned businesses succeed, communities succeed. As with any business, the contributions to employment, tax revenue and an uplifting of standards is a human benefit not merely a male or female benefit.

Founded in 1975, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) is the unified voice of over 11.6 million women-owned businesses in the United States representing the fastest growing segment of the economy. This amazing organization has events in every major market and is one that laid the foundation for associations that followed. Their track record of success speaks for itself.

WOMEN’S FRANCHISE COMMITTEE

Formed in 1996, the Women's Franchise Committee (WFC) is dedicated to inspiring and encouraging women in franchising by creating a network of business professionals dedicated to strengthening the success of women in franchising. The WFC has created several programs and resources to achieve this goal, ranging from "how to" guides and conferences to local networking chapters.

With the growth in property services franchising, many women are finding success in the once traditionally male dominated construction field. With more than 115 chapters across the country, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) offers its members education, support and networking to help advance their careers in construction, build their technical skills, and become leaders.

All women working in construction are eligible for membership, including women builders in the trades, project management, marketing, administration, and executive leadership. Women in related industries who work on construction related business, such as finance, legal, and other

With the important work that the Mayor of Dallas, Eric Johnson’s Franchise initiative is rolling out across the metroplex and the country the opportunities for women of color to continue to uplift their communities only grows stronger. Women of color account for 89% of the net new women-owned businesses per day.

According to the women entrepreneurs statistics, women of color represent 39% of the total female population in the U.S. but account for a whopping 89% of the net new womenowned firms per day

Although the number of women-owned businesses grew a strong 21% in the past years, firms owned by women of color grew by a whopping 43%. 2. Women-led businesses employ 9.4M workers and generate $1.9T in revenues annually.

Overall,, women-led businesses employ 9.4 million workers and generate $1.9 trillion in revenues annually

Over 1,800 new women-owned businesses are created each day in the U.S. One every 48 seconds. By the time you finish reading this article, 6 new women owned businesses will have been created in the US.

WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM | MARCH 2023 13

US businesses are women-owned.

Women started 1,821 net new businesses every day last year.

64% of new women-owned businesses were started by women of color last year.

Latina women-owned businesses grew more than 87%.

There are 114% more women entrepreneurs than there were 20 years ago. 7

62% of women entrepreneurs cite their business as their primary source of income. 8

Private tech companies led by women achieve 35% higher ROI. 9

Women-founded companies in First Round Capital’s portfolio outperformed companies founded by men by 63%.

Just 25% of women business owners seek business financing.

Women-owned businesses added half a million jobs between 1997 and 2007.

Women receive just 7% of venture funds for their startups.

Women have a 69.5% success rate of crowdfunding for their businesses while men have a 61.4% success rate.

57.4% of the SBA Microloan program’s loan went to women-owned or womenled businesses.

Female entrepreneurs ask for roughly $35,000 less in business financing than men. 16

Overall, men receive an average loan size of $43,916 while women receive an average loan size of $38,942 – almost $5,000 less.

Despite the continued upward trajectory and growth opportunities, income and growth disparities still permeate our business landscape. Female-owned businesses generally have lower revenues, grow slower, and receive less external financing but are still able to keep the lights on just as well as companies owned by men.

Perhaps some of the data about the revenue issues faced by female-owned businesses is skewed by the types of industries dominated by female-led firms. Women make up 90% or more of the companies in industries like child day care services, domestic services, and beauty salons, according to data fromthe National Women’s Business Council (NWBC). While these businesses can definitely be long-lasting and profitable, the profit margins can be very thin depending on the area. NWBC says that 44% of women entrepreneurs operate in low-growth industries.

Even still, American women-owned businesses employ over 9 million people and generate $1.9 trillion in annual revenue, according to the SBA. These businesses are essential to the economy. And while the daycare industry might not be a headline-grabbing field with major profits, any working parent will tell you how essential that industry is to their day-to-day lives.

Childcare, home healthcare, retail – these types of businesses are necessary for the American economy to function and for the American lifestyle to continue. It should be noted that women entrepreneurs are moving into many different industries, though. Behind healthcare and social assistance, the largest sector for female-owned businesses is professional, scientific, and technical services, the NWBC explains.

Franchising has been a growth catalyst for many visionary entrepreneurs. Maya Ratcliff, founder of Hawaii Fluid Art, began her art career helping people with brain injuries delve into their artistic talents as therapy. She eventually developed her proprietary method of fluid art using acrylic paints and a special pouring medium while

Ratcliff opened the first Hawaii Fluid Art studio in Waikoloa, HI, where her fluid art technique is now taught during multiple daily classes. I had the good fortune to meet Maya when she created her franchise through Franchise Genesis, the premier franchise creation platform in the US. Her charisma, vision and sharp business acumen make her a standout in any business and she saw the opportunities in franchising. Hard work is something she is no stranger to and she rolled up her sleeves and with her son, Austin, and many other dedicated team members went about growing their business. She was tireless in exhibiting at every Great American Franchise Expo as she spread her vision to thousands of people. Dozens saw themselves being a part of her team and she has sold over 175 units in the

The stories of Women Entrepreneurs are the topic of this month’s issue of Franchise Journal. We are honored to be able to share these stories and, hopefully, empower our readers to think about what they can accomplish when they put their vision into action.

Women in Franchising

Think the workforce is a static thing? Think again. Since the Industrial Revolution, how we work, where we work, the way we work and even who works has continually shifted. And, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic created significant disruptions in the workforce.

Speaking of who works, women’s role in the workforce continues to grow, particularly in terms of female entrepreneurship. In the last 20 years, the number of women starting their own businesses has increased by 114%. Currently, more than 12 million women own businesses in the

U.S. and their companies generate upwards of $1.8 trillion annually.

Encouraging and growing the number of female entrepreneurs is not just good for women, but it’s good for the overall economy. In fact, recent analysis indicated that global GDP could rise between 3% and 6% ($2.5 trillion to $5 trillion) if women and men around the world participated equally as entrepreneurs.

BEING YOUR OWN BOSS

It’s no secret that gender discrimination is alive and well in the workplace. A PEW research study found that about one in four women had experienced some form of workplace discrimination, from earning less than a male counterpart to being treated as if they were incompetent. For

instance, millions of females left the workforce during the pandemic because they were forced to choose between their jobs and their health or caring for their families.

But it is possible to be female and get ahead. One method is as a franchisee. Franchising offers an alternative path that is free of bias. Through franchising, women have the opportunity to become their own boss, provide for their families and achieve work-life balance.

Much of what has long appealed to men about entrepreneurship, particularly owning a franchise, makes the idea a draw for women, as well. More and more women are seeking ways to build a career they are proud of, but that offers them financial security and a flexible schedule.

Plus, many of the characteristics franchising demands—organization, an eye for detail, the ability to adapt and think quickly— are also skills that women are known for. Add to that strong communication and networking skills and a willingness to start small, and it is no wonder that the number of female-led franchises is growing every year.

GROWING WOMEN-OWNED FRANCHISES

The world of franchising today is more diverse than ever, not only in the number of femaleand minority-led businesses but also in the options available.

Cassandra Kuhl and Felicia Janovich founded LIVE Hydration Spa after the two

women who had previously worked together in health care reconnected. With growing families, the two women were looking to make career changes that better met their lifestyle needs. The former medical professionals brainstormed what they liked about their health care careers and what they didn’t, hitting on the wellness benefits that IV hydration provided.

Since starting their own business, Kuhl and Janovich have expanded their dream, franchising their idea to help others achieve the freedom and satisfaction of owning their own business. With relationships as a core value for LIVE Hydration Spa, the two have built a strong business foundation. They are now seeking franchisees (with or without a medical background) who share their passion for providing their communities with preventative health opportunities.

As more women seek to control their destinies, the appeal of franchising will

only grow. Ensuring women can pursue their dreams of being their bosses requires continued encouragement and help. Females considering entrepreneurship need to be encouraged. This means supporting their dreams and changing societal norms that still place the burden of caring for the home and children on the shoulders of women.

Barriers to financing for women also need to be addressed. While there are more opportunities than ever, the playing field regarding women receiving funding to pursue their dreams of entrepreneurship still needs to be leveled. There should be equal access to start-up capital, regardless of gender.

WHY FRANCHISING FOR WOMEN?

Work-life balance has never been more in demand. People of all stripes are demanding employment that allows them to spend time with their families and friends. Women especially, who still shoulder

WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM | MARCH 2023 21

most of the child care and household activities, seek careers that will give them the flexibility they need. Few people want to follow an ‘all work and no play’ model in the 21st century. Enter franchising.

Franchising offers women the ability to be their own bosses. They can opt for a franchise that allows them to work during school hours or affords them the flexibility to have their weekends free. The options are numerous and growing.

The pay gap for women shows no sign of going away quickly. The gender pay gap has held steady for the past several years, with women making, on average, 82 cents

for every dollar a man makes. Closing that discrepancy is yet another way that franchising benefits women. According to data, female franchise owners make 90 cents to every dollar a man makes.

Finally, the advantage of a franchise is that support is available. Many female entrepreneurs like knowing they are buying into a proven business model, with guidance available to them when and if they need it. What’s more, programs to help women find funding are increasing, including national grants, loans, and more.

Women interested in pursuing their entrepreneurship dreams may find it helpful to

have an experienced and knowledgeable insider to help them chart their course.

Superwoman and fitness freak with a desire to make a difference

Abundle of energy…. that’s how I felt about Leena Khandelwal when I first met her. Today Leena is the COO of geoAMPS®, a technology company involved in Land Rights and Infrastructure Asset Management, a franchise owner of Club Pilates®, and a highly influential business woman in Columbus, OH. But the journey wasn’t always easy. With a background in marketing, advertising and technology, Leena and her husband, Yogesh, both worked

average jobs at Nationwide Insurance. Always having a strong entrepreneurial bug, Yogesh started working on software development for this idea he had for managing Land Rights. While he worked on the technology side, Leena built the user interface and worked on product support, QA, HR, and marketing. She wore multiple hats and put in long hours, all this while being a mom to two wonderful kids and managing the household. “We built everything from scratch. I worked day and night. The business needed a lot of hard work and drive”, said Leena. Needless to say, it required a lot of blood, sweat, and tears; but the result was sweet, as they created geoAMPS®, one of the most successful businesses in its category.

In 2019 when things began to settle down at geoAMPS®, and as they became empty nesters, Leena wanted to do something for herself….something that she was passionate about, something that was hers. She and I talked about her passion for dance and fitness. She was a fitness freak, and she also had a huge desire to give

a low intensity workout that a 12 year old could do and so could a 90 year old. It was based on developing flexibility and mobility. No other fitness concept offers this. “People requiring physical therapy, recovering from an accident or injury, wanting to maintain mobility through a terminal illness, all benefit from pilates”, says Leena. You can often catch her quoting – “You are as old as your spine”. Leena loves the fact that Club Pilates® uses Reformers, which require extensive training to teach. “You can put a rowing machine or a Peleton® bike in your basement, but you can’t do that with a Reformer”, she said.

What advice does Leena have for young women looking to become entrepreneurs? “Be passionate”, is the first thing she says. “You have to have the passion to pursue what you’re after. But passion alone isn’t enough. It has to be backed up with hard work and drive. Be ready to put in the long hours, be persistent and patient, and you will succeed. And you must have or acquire the skill set for your work. Of course, you will have managers and employees, but you must know your work inside out”, said Leena.

I am fortunate to know Leena and Yogesh and be a small part of their successful journey.

From The Heart

If you ask me how I achieved my successes, I must admit that it was not a linear path. None of us are provided with a manual with instructions. What I do know is that whenever I operate from the heart and am truly passionate about my vision, success materializes. If you are contemplating opening a business or have a great idea that you are passionate about, start with small action steps to get you there. Your plan need not be perfect as perfection will hinder you from initiating action. You will see how the right people and situations will cross your path to achieve your dreams. Don't let fear hold you back. I don't know about you but what I do know is that I never regretted going for "it" whatever the "it" was. I truly believe that I have learned from everything I

attempted and experienced in my life whether professionally or personally. My triumphs and "failures" are mine alone and I wouldn't change a thing.

For all women of all ages contemplating business ownership and/or looking to chart their own path to achieve success, always remember to be authentic and kind. Your energy and presence is always palpable. It’s important to remind yourself and others to embrace being human. Embracing being human and owning your own narrative

allows you not only to be vulnerable and courageous, but also allows others to feel empowered as well. In turn, sharing their own stories and truths.

Here's my truth: I am an immigrant who came to this country wide eyed and naive. I am told that I am a successful business woman and entrepreneur. I say, thank you but I am still a work in progress. My advice to women of any age is to Listen to your heart and gut as that will

MY ADVICE TO WOMEN OF ANY AGE IS TO LISTEN TO YOUR HEART AND GUT AS THAT WILL ALWAYS BE YOUR TRUTH...

always be your truth; Take some calculated risks about things you are passionate about; Don't listen to negative people as they are not in your shoes and are exhibiting their own fears. Remember to trust people that earned your respect. When you fail, learn the lesson(s) and do it better the next time; When you succeed, pay it forward; Don't give up; This is not a dress rehearsal; No regrets!

Maybe some of the things I am writing are cliches, but they are true for me. Seek your truths and passions and always operate from your heart. You can never go wrong with this approach.

One more thing, people can tell if you are authentic so be authentic and help others especially women as it's our time to rise and shine.

High Achiever Cynthia Watson’s Journey Into Franchise Ownership With Accelerated Waste Solutions

As if earning a spot in the corner office wasn’t enough, Cynthia Watson decided to add franchise ownership to her already full life. In 2021 Cynthia became a franchise owner with Accelerated Waste Solutions. In April 2021 Good Cynt’s Disposal Inc launched in Northern New Jersey and in November 2022 she launched her second location in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. Let’s get to know Cynthia and her inspiring story about her career and move into franchise ownership.

TELL THE READERSHIP ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR CAREER, HOBBIES ETC.?

I am your typical girl that brought into the America dream of going to the college and having a career. I was born in rural Ga and raised in Newark NJ to a working-class family.

Education was the ticket to a better life. And in the beginning, it was. I studied hard and did well in school. I got a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting and had a great career in Corporate America for over 20 years. It afforded me lots of awesome trips around the world, great shopping opportunities and the ability to travel to different NFL stadiums to watch my favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys play.

WHAT CREATED YOUR INTEREST IN BUSINESS OWNERSHIP AND THEN FRANCHISING?

As I moved into the corner office, I realized it wasn't the life I had imagine all those years. The demands on my time were heavy and the stress of being away from my family was beginning to bother me. At the start of the pandemic, all that hard work didn't matter when the organization I worked for decided to outsource my department in spite of a raving review from the external auditor to the audit committee. This push off the ledge led to something I had thought about often, business ownership.

DID YOU HAVE A NOTION OF WHAT INDUSTRY YOU MIGHT OPERATE IN?

Well, I thought it would make sense to 'stay in my lane' so to speak of finance, accounting, and consulting but as I started to explore my

38 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

options other areas piqued my interest. I wanted to try something different and explore some other interest. Waste management wasn't my one of my interests but when I heard about the opportunity and did some research on the industry and my interest was sparked. Learning new things always get my juices flowing and this was that new thing.

I realized that different franchised business models offered me the opportunity to leverage my skills to develop a business while operating a successful corporate career. I ended up moving forward with Accelerated Waste Solutions.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO ACCELERATED WASTE SOLUTIONS OVER OTHERS YOU RESEARCHED?

What sealed the deal for me with AWS, was the back-end support offered, the two owners of the

organization and their whole support team. They made me feel that I wasn't going it alone and that they were invested in my success. This was critical because I didn’t have any prior experience in Waste Management or Franchising.

Self-Described ‘Director of Change Management’ Has a New Title: Owner of Floor Coverings International

Leigh Ann Wojciechowski is uniquely qualified for her new career, emphasis on uniquely. The 42-year-old Stewartsville, N.J., resident is a new owner of the local Floor Coverings International, the brand that’s consistently ranked No. 1 in the mobile flooring category, visiting customers’ homes in a Mobile Flooring Showroom stocked with thousands of flooring samples from top manufacturers. Having launched operations recently, Leigh Ann’s Floor Coverings International of Lehigh Valley serves customers throughout the valley and northwestern New Jersey.

Wojciechowski spent 10 years working in highereducation marketing, but then took a professional hiatus. It was during this time that Wojciechowski, her husband, and the couple’s three sons moved three times in just over five years because of his career. Wojciechowski did her best to bring some sense of calm to what would have been a chaotic time for any young family. She took her responsibilities so seriously; she even gave herself a title.

“I took on the role of ‘Director of Change Management,’ ensuring that despite the

upheaval in their educational, social, and recreational lives, my children had a warm and inviting place to call home and host friends,” Wojciechowski said. “Those moves taught me to value the space that you live in because it is the center of the memories you make with your family.”

With her sons now in or nearing high school, Wojciechowski said the time was right to fulfill her longtime desire to be a small-business owner and Floor Coverings International proved the perfect match for her professional and personal background. Floor Coverings International is a business built on relationships to provide its customers with the absolute best in-home flooring experience.

“We decided it was time to put down roots in northwestern New Jersey and it was the perfect opportunity for me to start a business that combines my professional background and my love for making spaces warm and inviting for families,” Wojciechowski said.

The fact that Leigh Ann’s Floor Coverings International is locally owned and

100-percent woman-owned is an important distinction for Wojciechowski, who sees herself as playing a key role in the community. “Being a locally owned business imparts a responsibility to elevate the communities we serve,” she said. “And as a 100-percent woman-owned business, I am committed to supporting organizations that are offering hope and healing to women in the most desperate of circumstances.”

In Floor Coverings International, Wojciechowski found a company that has tripled in size since 2005 by putting a laser focus on consumer buying habits and expressed desires, its impressive operating model, growth ability, marketing, advertising, and merchandising. Floor Coverings International further separates itself from the competition through its customer experience, made up of several simple and integrated steps that exceed customers’ expectations. For this, Floor Coverings International was given the Innovation Award for Customer Response from Franchise Update Media.

Indeed, Wojciechowski said Floor Coverings International distinguished itself as a franchisor because of its unparalleled franchisee support and sense of camaraderie among its franchise owners. Its proven business model has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs thrive in a business that is simple-to-run and easy to scale.

“I discovered that the Floor

Coverings International business model would allow me to scale my business to the point where I could draw a good income for myself and my family without sacrificing the intimacy of a small business with fewer than 10 employees,” Wojciechowski said. “It is my express intention to create a work environment where employees feel like family – valued, supported and well-cared-for.”

With the home improvement industry booming, the flooring market is also keeping pace. The global flooring market

was estimated to reach $409 billion according to Grand View Research. The market is expected to grow at an annual rate of more than six percent through 2028, reaching overall sales of $621 billion.

“From products designed to withstand whatever an active family – including those with pets – can throw at them – to improvements in the visuals, texture and durability of vinyl products, it’s exciting to be able to offer customers flooring solutions that meet their needs and look and last beautifully,” Wojciechowski said.

ABOUT FLOOR COVERINGS INTERNATIONAL

Norcross, GA-based Floor Coverings International has ranked consistently as the No. 1 Mobile Flooring Franchise in North America by Entrepreneur Magazine. The 181 franchisees and their Design Associates offer a unique in-home experience with a mobile showroom that comes directly to the client’s door. More than 3,000 flooring choices are available to view in the home with and alongside the existing lighting, paint, and furniture. The company will open several more locations throughout the U.S. and Canada through franchise expansion. For franchise information, please visit www.flooring-franchise.com. Serial entrepreneur building a family legacy

This South Florida power couple is crushing it as franchisees with Hand & Stone® massage, and recently signed up with Drybar®. Meet Sunitee and Jasjot Singh. Jasjot is a doctor of internal medicine and soon launching his own medspa. Sunitee, a serial entrepreneur, manages their franchise portfolio.

Sunitee and Jasjot lived in Tennessee until 2015. That’s where I got to know them. At the time, Sunitee was the office manager for Jasjot’s medical practice. In 2015 the couple moved to Ft. Lauderdale and Jasjot took up a job with Cleveland Clinic. Business has been in Sunitee’s blood and she was not one to be satisfied with the employment situation. “There is always a cap in the salary world. Whether he sees 10 patients or 20, he just earns a fixed amount.

In business there is no cap. That’s the exciting thing about owning your business”, she says. Sunitee comes from a family of entrepreneurs. She was thinking long-term and

wanted to build a legacy for the kids. When Sunitee and I discussed the types of business opportunities out there she mentioned that she wanted to invest in a business which offered the type of services that she would use herself. We brainstormed a lot and agreed that facials and massages are some of the things she loves to

46 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

do to pamper herself. In 2016 we started exploring Hand & Stone®. In 2017 she signed up as a franchisee with 3 territories and opened her first location in 2018.

Sunitee has recently signed up as a franchisee with Drybar® as well for 3 locations in the South Florida market. Needless to say, she loves the franchise model. Sunitee says – “There’s a lot of hand holding in a franchise business. You get guidance and support at every step of the way. From real estate to construction, marketing and hiring….there is a playbook for everything. It would be very expensive and slow to do this on your own. The ramp up is so much faster with a franchise.” But when they leave, “That’s when you start

to get a little nervous because you’re flying on your own now”, says Sunitee. However, even in this situation she felt that being part of a franchise system really helped because she could reach out to other franchisees who had been through the same cycle and dealt with the same growing pains. “It’s a community out there, and they’re all willing to help, she says.

Sunitee loves being a business owner. She likes being able to dictate her own hours, the freedom of action, and financial independence that come with business ownership. Her advice for new entrepreneurs –“Find a franchise where you’re passionate about the service or product. See if you connect with the corporate team, and ensure

that their mindset matches yours. And be prepared to work hard, at least initially. I had two store managers quit on me so I I wanted to make sure that I learned how to run the store. I did it myself for 2 years – I lived at the spa, opened and closed myself. But in the end, I gained the confidence that I could do it myself.”

I wish Sunitee and Jasjot continued success in their business endeavors.

Beauty Bungalows Taking Off In ‘23

The beauty industry has become one of the premier sectors in the global economy. With the rise of the internet, social media, and the growth of the beauty-related products and services industry, a new type of business model has emerged— the Beauty Bungalows Salon Suite Franchise.

Founded in 2017 by Traci Hawkins, Beauty bungalows is a premium salon suites brand that rents upscale salon suites to talented beauty professionals who want to be able to be their own boss and have their own business.

Traci has been in the hair industry for over 20 years and knows what beauty professionals need to run a successful business. They offer our renters a private, clean, fun and upscale working environment to start their business in, while still giving them the feel of being with a salon community. Beauty Bungalows supplies the premium fixtures and the necessities for the salon suite so that the renters can start working right away. They have a trendy upscale vibe that makes our suites more appealing to superior beauty professionals.

In this article, we'll discuss the benefits of owning a Beauty Bungalows Salon Suite Franchise, including potential income and cost savings, customer convenience, and more.

POTENTIAL INCOME AND COST SAVINGS

One of the primary benefits of owning a Beauty Bungalows franchise is the potential for a substantial income. No salon experience is needed to become a Beauty Bungalows franchisee. Beauty Bungalows tenants who rent out the suites are responsible for booking their own clients, taking payment from these clients and buying/selling their own retail products. The tenants are also responsible for marketing their own business. Owning a Beauty Bungalows franchise is a property management model that is perfect if you are looking for a semi-absentee business. Also, the cost savings of owning a Beauty Bungalows franchise can be substantial.

50 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

As a franchisee, you’ll be able to leverage the existing infrastructure of the franchise, which can save you a significant amount of money on start-up costs. Additionally, you’ll be able to take advantage of discounts on products and services from suppliers and vendors, as well as discounts on advertising and marketing materials.

CUSTOMER CONVENIENCE

Beauty Bungalows allows beauty professionals to offer their services in a more convenient way for their customers. The luxury suites are customizable for any beauty process. Customers enjoy a private setting, and get the one-on-one experience they are looking for. Additionally, the suites are equipped with premium sink fixtures and salon chairs or facial bed in every suite. This can save time and money for the beauty professionals, they can move in and start their business on the same day!

PREDICTIVE INCOME

Another benefit of owning a Beauty Bungalows franchise is the ability to predict income. Tenants pay rent on a weekly basis and they are on a 1-year contract for their suite. Once the suites are at 100% occupancy the income is stable and predictable each week. As there are typically no employees needed, no inventory to stock, and the business is stable year round, franchisees can enjoy the ultimate in work/life balance without needing to be concerned with seasonality and a downturn in the economy.

CONCLUSION

If you are looking for something that offers work/life balance and is not a huge time commitment, owning a Beauty Bungalows franchise can be a great way to start a flexible, scalable business and make a substantial income. The suites provide a luxurious yet private environment for beauty professionals to offer their services to their customers. Additionally, the franchise owner can benefit from cost savings, customer convenience, marketing and brand awareness, flexibility, and the ability to predict income. For these reasons, a

Beauty Bungalows Salon Suite

Franchise can be an excellent choice for anyone looking to start their own business in a booming industry.

Scores on Power Play HOCKEY MOM

Women in business have crazy schedules as they juggle clients, employees, vendors and tasks throughout the day. They are responsible for a hundred things all going on at the same time. Sports moms do the same as they shuttle kids to practice and games, raise money for uniforms and equipment, make travel plans and help with a host of other activities. And you can’t forget about the demands from the rest of the family. Husbands, parents and other children all want a piece of your time. Then there is Michelle

Burlison. She does both. She is both an entrepreneur and a hockey mom. She has 5 boys, 2 of which play travel hockey and a third that used to. Just try and keep up with this lady.

Sitting down with Michelle was a great experience for me. She is so full of energy. I guess you would have to be to accomplish all that she has. Originally from Florida, Michelle claims Plano, TX as her hometown having grown up in the area. She graduated from the University of Texas/ Dallas and spent 26 years in corporate America as a

CPA, business developer and legal adviser as she climbed the proverbial corporate ladder. She describes herself as analytical, frugal, relational and a solver of problems.

Along the way she met Layton, her husband of 24 years and together they raised 5 boys now ranging in ages from 15 to 27. Two of the boys play hockey and have been skating since the age of 4. The Burlesons have always supported their children in their activities and love having that involvement in their

54 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

lives. Sports is teaching them competitiveness, teamwork and accountability to others to achieve success. As a family they travel the country attending tournament after tournament all while running her own business.

Yes, Michelle is a business owner too. In 2018, after a successful business career Michelle sought a change. Not knowing what she didn’t know she engaged the help of a franchise consultant who helped her and her husband through the process of identifying the right fit them financially, geographically and something that best supports their lifestyle. After all, that’s what franchise consultants do.

With a little guidance and education on how franchising works and after careful review and deep analysis Michelle decided that Schooley Mitchell was the franchise business for her and In March of 2019 she was open for business.

Schooley Mitchell is a Canadabased franchise that offers B2B consultation to help businesses of all sizes reduce operating costs and you only pay for their services if they

save you money. They are the largest cost-reduction company in North America. How can you lose? They offer savings is a broad array of categories like telecom and merchant services, shipping, waste and facility management, utilities, fuel for companies with fleets, uniforms and network services. Who better to analyze your income statement and connect you to programs that save your business money than Michelle?

So where is Michelle now that she’s four years into her business? In 2022 Michelle’s office was ranked the 3rd highest billing office out of more than 250 offices worldwide. That’s a GOOOOAAL in my book. Michelle attributes her success to hard work, building sound relationship with clients, vendors and referral partners and the solid support of her husband and family. In addition, she loves the fact that this brand doesn’t restrict her to a territory and she’s able to help people around the country.

Michelle shared with me one of biggest wins since launching her business. Just this year she was able to help

a non-profit organization save nearly $1.3 million in telecom expenses alone and is still working with them to reduce costs in utilities and waste management. All that savings goes right back to help those being served by this organization. Truly a winwin-win situation.

It was obvious that Michelle loves what she does and she’s very good at it. She follows the Schooley Mitchell system to collaborate with clients to find them the best solutions for their situation leveraging the systems and vendors provided by her franchisor. Truly a testament to success in franchising.

What Challenges Did This Entrepreneur Face and How Were They Overcome?

there are essential "do's" & "don'ts" that must be taken on board if you're serious about making waves as a female entrepreneur or curious potential franchisee; so let us take you through them now! When Anjali Hira left her home country in 1996, she moved to the United States with ambitious goals and dreams. Little did she know that this new beginning would lead to incredible opportunities and experiences!

Q) Anjali, Tell us where did your professional journey begin?

Taking the plunge into franchising is a huge decision with many challenges. But for some, it's an opportunity to become their own boss and experience the thrill of entrepreneurship first-hand. We spoke to one brave pioneer about their journey from aspiring franchisee

to successful business owner - exploring what sets franchising apart, how this industry has evolved over time, and invaluable advice when considering such a career path yourself! From demanding decisions made in moments of ambiguity through learning curves along every step of your entrepreneurial voyage–

A) I have had many lives throughout my career, but my first position was at an advertising agency in Kuwait. I then worked as an insurance agent in Dubai and a technology consultant in NYC. After completing my MBA at the University of Texas, I worked at Dell as a financial consultant, which positioned me for my final move to being an entrepreneur in 2006.

58 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

Q) When faced with the daunting decision to dive into franchising, what was it like?

A) Looking back, it wasn't a daunting decision. I stumbled upon the Massage Envy concept through conversations and loved the model. They had all the pieces ready for me to implement and roll out. As a new business owner, having the whole playbook prepared to start the business made my decision instinctual. At that point in my life, having a newborn and a husband who worked as an ER physician for endless hours, I needed the infrastructure and support that the franchise model provided.

Q) Challenges are inevitable in any field - can you tell us about one you encountered as a franchisee or offer advice for aspiring women entrepreneurs who may be considering taking this resolute step themselves?

A) As many people were hit with Covid in different ways,

I struggled to manage five businesses/ locations in this new environment. I had to make the most challenging decision to close one completely as it needed a lot of nurturing, and it would have struggled in the new Covid environment. I eventually pivoted that location to be a Covid Testing Center. It was a process, not an easy one, but with this, I learned you have to lean on yourself: mental strength, perseverance, and listening to your gut instincts which is the key to success.

Q) As a successful female entrepreneur, what prompted your purchase of more franchises such as Modern Acupuncture and European Wax and more locations of Massage Envy?

A) After opening Massage Envy locations, I had the itch to do more! Having two existing locations did not satisfy my entrepreneurial thirst, so I ventured out and eventually opened 2 European Wax locations and purchased a Modern Acupuncture

location and some licenses. I wanted to be on the cutting edge of new services available to the public in a modern setting! Through my steep learning curve of launching and operating multiple clinics and locations and the intense endorphins you get when you start a business, I was inspired to open my own concept! My husband and I now work together and have opened a cutting-edge hair transplant location that offers state-of-the-art hair restoration services.

Q) How did you manage the delicate balance between work life and personal pursuits during such an economically trying time in your career growth? What advice would you offer other aspiring women entrepreneurs considering taking this same approach toward business endeavors?

A) Women have the innate ability to be everything to everyone. I used to be at the front desk and switched over to being a soccer mom the next hour while doing calls on the way. Having the right staff and the right support system helped a lot. Balance your tasks, prioritize what is most important, and let the day take you to do what you know is your best!

HomeVestors Franchisee Leaps from the Corporate Merry-Go-Round to a Rewarding Life Helping Others

Tanice Myers had a successful 23-year career in corporate technology and sales. At Microsoft for ten years, she was a senior commercial executive and enterprise senior licensing specialist. But as she watched her colleagues take jobs at other tech companies or endlessly bounce between businesses, she knew she wanted something more.

Always trying to live life to the fullest, with passion, and love what she’s doing, she was wary of the stagnation of corporate life. She was ready for a change.

“I wanted the chance to be more entrepreneurial, spread my wings, and grow,” she said.

That chance presented itself in the form of franchise ownership with HomeVestors.

The real estate investment franchisor has purchased over 13 billion dollars’ worth of houses since 1996, helping more than 140,000 homeowners out of ugly situations. HomeVestor franchisees buy properties from highly motivated sellers needing to sell their houses quickly, saving the sellers the time and stress of a traditional home sale. HomeVestors franchisees buy properties, fixing them up for sale or as rentals.

While working as a real estate broker in the Seattle area, Tanice’s husband Paul did business with a HomeVestors franchisee, observing the buying and selling prices of a HomeVestors home. He saw incredible investment opportunities, and after talking it through with Tanice, he bought a HomeVestors franchise. At first, Tanice was helping Paul part-time while maintaining her corporate job.

Soon, the business took off and Tanice decided to make her move. She joined her husband full-time as a HomeVestors franchisee. She left the comfort and security of a six-figure salary and

comprehensive benefits at a leading tech company to take a chance on HomeVestors, and she hasn’t looked back.

Starting over in a new field didn’t intimidate Tanice. With her professional background, she understood business and processes. What she didn’t know about the real estate business, HomeVestors would teach her.

“HomeVestors provided me a ‘business in a box,’” she said. “I knew I’d be successful just by following the tools and processes they had in place.”

The HomeVestors training included a weeklong training session at the corporate office, support from a local development agent assisting with sales, as well as local real estate insights, CRM systems, and methods for handling leads, answering the phone, and following up on appointments.

Tanice says experience in the real estate business is not a must for being a successful HomeVestors franchisee. But two things are essential - a passion for real estate and the desire to help others.

HomeVestors gave Tanice the chance to learn a new business, capitalize on the skills she developed from her time in the

62 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

corporate arena, and provide help to people who need a hand.

“If you have a strong desire for both of those, HomeVestors is a great fit,” she said. “Whether or not you have real estate experience is not important. That’s something that can be learned.”

Tanice’s main motivation for her business is not selling houses but helping people. That’s why HomeVestors lead sourcing stood out for her. Homevestors advertises directly to sellers in distress who need to sell their homes fast. These leads opened opportunities for Tanice’s

business unavailable to others in real estate who often rely primarily on cold calling and local advertising.

Tanice knows she’s providing a lifeline to people in tough situations, going on appointments to meet those homeowners looking for help. She connects with those sellers on a personal level, and whether she buys their home or not, she knows she’s made an impact, often keeping in touch, fostering a relationship even after a sale.

Since Tanice left the corporate world and became involved in the franchise, the

business has flourished. Tanice and Paul now own two HomeVestors franchise territories, one in Seattle and the other in Spokane/North Idaho. There’s a brick-andmortar location in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho close to where she and Paul reside with their 18-year-old daughter, Amelia.

Tanice takes great pride in not only offering sellers a way out of difficult situations but also creating career opportunities through their HomeVestors franchise. Amongst the professionals who work with them, there have been great individual stories of growth. They have two full teams, expanding to three, that include a full-time real estate agent, a project manager, and an office manager.

In the past, Tanice would find excuses not to pursue her goals. Now she finds great reward in her work as a HomeVestors franchisee.

“Is there risk in pushing through and moving forward? Yes,” she said. “Risk is part of business and part of life. If this is something you want, go do it. Don’t get in your own way. There is so much room for growth in real estate today. The opportunity is there. If you’re interested in real estate and helping other people, you need to look at HomeVestors as a franchise opportunity. It is up to you to go after it.”

A Lifetime of Supporting Women Through Achievement

Paving the way for women is something that has come naturally to Fran Drescher. As a comedy legend, fashion icon, cancer survivor, women’s and LGBTQ+ rights activist and now franchise business proponent, Fran Drescher is a firm believer in “turning pain into purpose”. Today, the ultra-stylish Hollywood star is not only the President of SAGAFTRA but has a hit show on HBO Max, a musical in the works, a non-profit Cancer organization celebrating its twenty-third year of women’s health advocacy and has recently launched a new business called Color Only. This fast hair dye business that is membership based is dedicated to making women

beautiful, saving them time, money and a portion of the proceeds goes to support cancer research.

With a tag line of “30 minutes - $30” they recently launched their franchise business and expect to sell thousands of units around the world.

With a corporate team that includes her cousin, Stephen Drescher, Steve Duchin and Ken Weiner, all with significant business backgrounds, they sought to re-imagine what the traditional hair dye industry did.

“We realized that most women get their roots dyed every 3-4 months, it was either expensive to do in a salon or messy to do at home and matching your favorite color

was never easy. We created a proprietary hair dye mixing machine that works like the paint mixer in Home Depot but it makes hair dye on the spot to match your exact color. We can get our clients in and out in under 30 minutes so they always look their best with minimal effort” says Stephen Drescher CEO of the company.

Fran Drescher isn’t your runof-the-mill Hollywood celebrity. Having grown up in Flushing, Queens, she met her exhusband Peter Marc Jacobson at 15 and married him at 21. After high school, the pair worked as hairdressers while pursuing acting opportunities in New York. Drescher made her screen debut at the age of 20, with a small role in the cult classic “Saturday Night

66 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

Fever”, but did not become a household name until her mid-thirties, in a role she and Jacobson co-wrote, specifically for her.

As the “flashy girl from Flushing”, Fran Fine, in the smash-hit sitcom The Nanny, Drescher became a fashion reference and comedy powerhouse, going on to be nominated for two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy Television Series. She was even honoured by the Israeli Knesset as the first female Jewish actor since Molly Goldberg in The Goldbergs in 1948 to play an openly Jewish character in a starring role on U.S. primetime television.

“I grew up in a loving Jewish family, in a predominantly Jewish neighbourhood and, very early on [Jacobson and I], started observing the nuances of the richly colourful characters that surrounded us,” says Drescher, who was inspired by the words of American playwright Neil Simon. “He said, ‘you have to write about what you know’, and then you can really get into the details.”

However, it was only thanks to Drescher and Jacobson’s determination and, some might say, chutzpah that The Nanny ended up being the wonderfully sassy, unapologetically Jewish yenta we know and love today.

“We were working on the pilot when the network called to say Procter & Gamble wanted to buy the show outright. There was only one caveat: the character of the nanny had to be Italian, not Jewish,” recalls Drescher.

Despite being keenly aware of what having a fully financed show would mean, Drescher and Jacobson decided to do it their way.

But what really endeared Nanny Fine to TV audiences around the world, was her contagious charm, relentless optimism and the ease with which she navigated the many twists and turns of life. Positivity is a quality Fran Fine shares with her namesake, even though Drescher admits that real life has not always been easy.

In 1985, Drescher and a female friend were the victims of a harrowing attack when they were raped at gunpoint at her Los Angeles home. In June 2000, one year after the final episode of The Nanny aired, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, following two years

of misdiagnoses by eight different doctors. Yet her message is one of empowerment:

“I’ve survived some really difficult times and learned that, when you turn your pain into purpose, it’s very healing and helps make sense out of the senseless. Rather than asking ‘why me?’, it helps if you think ‘this is why me, and I’m going to take it and apply it to the greater good’. Nobody wants bad things to happen but, if you discipline yourself to seek out the opportunity being presented, you can transition more quickly from being a victim to being empowered,” she explains.

After the cancer diagnosis, Drescher underwent surgery and was given a clean bill of health. The experience inspired her to write the best-selling book Cancer Schmancer. While more than two decades have passed since The Nanny stopped airing new episodes, the series still has a worldwide cult status among millions of people.

“There are so many amazing women in the world that I’m blessed to be surrounded by them. Launching Color Only is another way that we can serve the world and women to look and be their very best selves and do something that has long lasting value to support women’s health.”

Business Woman Turns Business Owner

With a lengthy background in the corporate world, beem™

Area Partner Madeline Ricci began researching franchising opportunities after facing a layoff during

2008. After the step away from corporate, Ricci then successfully founded two businesses, applying the management and operational skills she’d gained from her experience within her previous corporate environment. Launching multiple businesses subsequently taught Ricci that proven franchise models are an even quicker way to generate longterm financial success.

“I learned that there were better ways to fasttrack success through proven models and franchising. So I became obsessed with finding the best opportunities in franchising,” Ricci said. Along with her husband and business partner, Ricci

was interested in securing financial stability for their two daughters through a successful franchise partnership.

Ricci wanted to partner with a franchise within the health and wellness space due to a personal interest in self-care. She also knew she wanted to identify a franchise that was built around a transparent leadership team and offered support both in operations and from a marketing standpoint. When Ricci discovered beem™ Light Sauna, those elements all aligned. “What impressed me about beem™ Light Sauna, first and foremost, was their leaders and their incredible support team that lives and breathes the brand. The beem™ team is extraordinary. They are transparent, and they have integrity. Their business model is simple, and it makes money. Plain and simple,” Ricci said.

beem™ Light Sauna provides full-spectrum light therapy services in a sauna environment to maximum full cellular revitalization. Clients

In addition to the focus on holistic treatment, beem™ Light Sauna is positioned to equip new Owners with a model that offers low start-up costs and minimal staffing, meaning that franchisees have a quick path to high earning potential. And with groundbreaking light therapy treatment options, repeat client business ensures profitability through repeat revenue. As light therapy continues to gain traction in mainstream healthcare, the beem™ Light Sauna franchise is poised for significant growth.

“My expectations are high and I have to say that the beem™ team has exceeded my expectations. The beem™ onboarding process is the best,” said Ricci. “The team is involved every step of the way. That's important when new franchisees are transitioning to the entrepreneur world for the first time.”

beem™ Founder Cynthia May echoed Ricci’s sentiments. “With beem™, we’ve had the opportunity to build something from the ground up that has become a catalyst for transformations in the lives of so many of our members. Personally, it’s allowed me to cultivate and lead a group of incredible women in my own studio, and show my daughters that even in the most daunting of circumstances (thinkopening a wellness studio during a pandemic!) you can persist and see your dream come to fruition.”

The Mother of All Marketing

Is your marketing getting you the reach that you need for your franchise?

Direct mail is one of the most successful forms of marketing, especially for franchises. Whether you are a seasoned franchise owner, or new to the game, this

article was meant for you. Adding direct mail to your marketing mix brings a more personal touch – especially for a new location. It’s a great way to get more people in the door, scheduling appointments or purchasing your product.

Here are five things you can include in your direct mail piece that will encourage people to engage with your business and become loyal, lifetime customers.

1. STAND OUT HEADLINE

First things first, your headline. It’s the glue that holds everything together. This will be the first area to grab your reader's attention, be sure not to disappoint!. An effective headline draws the recipient in and convinces them to read and process the rest of the content on your direct mail piece.

2. YOUR LOCATION

Having clear details like where your business is located will keep potential clientele informed in the surrounding area. The journey of the recipient is smooth when the location of your business is in multiple places on the direct mail piece. In this example, the address is on the front and the back. The less work someone has to do to find the location of your business, the more likely they are to visit your location over a competitor down the street.

78 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
5 things you should always include on a direct mail piece for optimal results

3. EXCLUSIVE OFFERS

Incentivise people by offering deals and discounts to potential customers who make the effort to show up to your event. You want to nurture and show the community that you care about their business. After the sale, make sure they receive special offers and discounts before anyone else. It pays to treat returning customers well.

4. PERSONALIZATION

With technology capabilities, you can personalize your direct mail pieces to each recipient on your list but utilizing variable data. Adding a name to your direct mail piece increases action

rates by 135%. This brings another level of inclusion to your direct mail campaign. Creating a personalized experience allows for a one-on-one conversation with someone, leaving them feeling like you value their time.

5. CALL TO ACTION

Now that you’ve got everyone excited about your event, make sure there are clear ways for people to reach out and take action. The more options you give people, the more likely they are to spend more time on your site and purchase something. This piece includes a QR code, email and phone number. It’s important to give people

the option to contact you in multiple ways based on their communication preference.

Once all of these elements are included and working together seamlessly on your direct mail piece, it’s time to start spreading the word about your business!

Maintaining Balance as a Leader in Franchising

illustrious 23-year career and now serves as Vice President of Marketing for the Chem-Dry and N-Hance brands with the BELFOR Franchise Group. Her journey is impressive, and at the core of her success is the lesson Mom taught by example — roll up your sleeves and work hard.

“Honestly, this is second nature to me,” Abby says, “My mom had five kids and a successful career. I was fortunate to have her as a role model. I know nothing else but creating balance with work and my husband, daughter, and son.”

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP THROUGH LIFE LESSONS

the unenviable position she was placed in at one point in her career when working for a different company. Abby was offered a promotion but turned it down on the spot when she was told she had to put work first and family second. It’s a question of having success at what expense?

BEING A SUCCESS BY FINDING BALANCE

Climbing to the top of her field was unavoidable for Abby Baker — it’s just in her DNA. She’s been surrounded by strong, career-driven women her whole life. Her mom had a career as a hospital administrator. One sister is a physician, another sister an IT project manager. Abby herself has risen through the ranks in her

Being aware of the need to balance her personal life and professional career has made her a more compassionate leader, exemplified by her current team. Part of that team includes two women who are new moms. Abby knows creating a flexible workspace means they won’t have to feel the push and pull between family and work. She trusts them to get the job done, and they do. As a leader, Abby refuses to put her team in

These kinds of experiences have made her an effective leader. She has a quiet confidence about her, although her career is full of bold accomplishments. This marketing grad from the University of Tennessee began her career in healthcare marketing. From there, she moved into marketing for a food service company where she and her team devised a unique bar code system. Prior to moving to the BELFOR Franchise Group, she was a customer marketing manager. Along the way, she credits much of her success to strong and determined mentors.

“I was so fortunate to work with smart, creative people. I remember one female leader who was at times intimidating to me. But that’s okay; because sometimes that’s how you learn. You get tough.”

A STRATEGY FOR SUCCESS

The biggest takeaway from her years learning the marketing trade is it’s all about strategy. Abby believes that in marketing, everything is data-driven. That’s how she and her team handled revamping marketing for two strong and established franchise brands under the BELFOR Franchise Group umbrella.

First was N-Hance, a premier wood refinishing franchise. Abby launched a national fund to assist franchise owners, grounded

name in carpet cleaning for more than 45 years. ChemDry has recently initiated a national campaign — with strong results. Stats show they are moving the needle on this brand campaign with integrated marketing, including traditional and digital strategies involving nationally targeted television ads, national magazines, public relations, and social platforms.

THERE’S A PLACE FOR DATA AND PEOPLE

Although Abby believes in

create a positive work environment, and accomplish goals,” My career has been very rewarding. I’m a project-oriented person and goal-oriented. Give me a challenge, I’m gonna do it. I set goals and then hit those goals.”

CARVE OUT TIME FOR YOURSELF

This busy executive, wife, and mother also knows that to be effective you’ve also got to find a release. What works for Abby is having a physical and

on data collected to better understand CRM. She developed several business case studies, produced a proforma based on the forecasted compliance, and then rolled out a new marketing plan. Since the launch, N-Hance catapulted to triple-digit growth in lead volume, website traffic, and ROI for local marketing efforts. Thanks to this success, Abby’s team got busy with the next campaign for Chem-Dry, a trusted

data over a gut feeling when it comes to the success of marketing campaigns, what drives her is the human element behind these projects. Her plans always involve engagement with franchise owners. She wants their perspective and buyin — because ultimately, these projects will affect their business — a responsibility she takes very seriously.

That impact is her motivation. She wants to always bring value to a team,

creative outlet. That means getting sweaty at hot yoga and enjoying an interesting hobby — she is an avid potter. Abby’s advice? “It’s all about balance. Especially as women with all the roles we have, we’ve got to establish priorities and remember to fill the tank. That’s critical to not just achieving success but happiness, too.” A lesson Abby’s children are now learning from her example.

Mastering the Franchising World

Dawn Kroeger, vice president of marketing for the ServiceMaster Brands portfolio, admits that her knowledge of the franchising industry was

non-existent nearly 20 years ago when interviewing for a position with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

Kroeger was working with St. Vincent Catholic Charities in Michigan and had already

applied for a position at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK when the company reached out to her and asked how they could help with a backpack collection initiative she was running on behalf of the charity.

“The contact at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK had no idea I had applied for a job at the company, but she had heard about the backpack drive and wanted to see how they could help,” said Kroeger. “That immediately attracted me to the company and its willingness to help the communities they serve. I got lucky and was hired to join their newly developed marketing team.”

Her lack of knowledge didn’t last very long, and she quickly developed a passion for the world of franchising. Kroeger learned the business by serving in numerous roles for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, starting as a local marketing manager for three franchises, and then working in operations and franchise marketing consulting, overseeing the company’s advertising budget, and working in social media and public relations positions.

“I couldn’t imagine being involved in anything other than franchising once I started working in their marketing department,” said Kroeger. “I valued the business model and the relationships I formed and

86 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

was genuinely excited to get out of bed every day knowing I was making a difference for someone’s small business.”

Fast forward to the present, and Kroeger now serves as the vice president of marketing for ServiceMaster Brands, which acquired TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in 2021. She is a thought leader in franchisee marketing support and leverages her years of experience from TWO MEN AND A TRUCK to create synergies across the ServiceMaster Brands portfolio, which also includes Merry Maids, ServiceMaster Clean, and ServiceMaster Restore.

When settling into her new position, it immediately struck Kroeger that the brand leaders at each franchise were accomplishing notable things but were not communicating their ideas and practices amongst each other.

“Smart people were doing meaningful things, but they were on an island and weren’t talking to each other about what they were doing,” she said. “I made a concerted effort to connect each brand in a variety of ways, including regular meetings between people filling similar roles. I really feel like we are one collaborative team now.”

Kroeger’s mission continues

to enact positive change for each franchise, including improving loyalty through the Merry Maids digital customer experience and bringing marketing business intelligence to brands.

“My team is small in numbers, and everything we do is to support the marketing teams dedicated to each brand under the ServiceMaster Brands umbrella,” said Kroeger. “We serve to fill the needs that the brand marketing teams may have, and we exist for them.”

Kroeger lives a rewarding professional life and balances that life with spending quality time with her two children and husband, who is a smallbusiness owner, and taps into Kroeger’s business savvy when needed.

While Kroeger serves in leadership and is not out in the field each day, it’s not lost on her that those who come face to face with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, Merry Maids, ServiceMaster Clean, and ServiceMaster Restore customers are the engine and lifeblood of each franchise.

“A mission of the ServiceMaster Brands umbrella is to make everyday heroes more heroic,” she said. “It’s so important to be aware that our local businesses would not exist without the work of those who are out in the field and move people each day or rush in and help people during times of natural disasters. It’s the frontline people that make a difference, and we wouldn’t exist without our incredibly hardworking and talented team members.”

Women in Franchising from 1983 to 2023— Oh What a Difference 4 Decades Makes

My first IFA convention was in 1983 and it took place In Acapulco. Fred DeLuca, founder of Subway, was the biggest “big shot” there. There may have been 300 of us in attendance and almost all of the days were spent on the beach. A couple of roundtables and meetings took up our mornings but after lunch

was free time. Those were the days! Literally. Those were the days that women started to make an appearance more frequently at such events.

Roughly 85% of men attended. Yes. But the more critical point is that back then the women present were primarily spouses of the executives attending, or employees of the IFA. Very few women franchisors that I

can remember were present. The great Mary Ellen Sheets, founder of Two Men and a Truck may have been there and I do remember in the next couple of years Debbie Fields of Mrs. Fields’ Cookies was a rare “star” that attended. However, even then, here’s what I recall. It was Mr. Fields who ran the company. Randy Fields was the CEO of Debbie Fields’ company.

90 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
Sanderson Associates Victoria Conte, then of SUCCESS Magazine and myself in the early 90’s (left), us again today. (right)

Let’s crawl through the 80s and 90s. It’s my opinion that once the IFA (very reluctantly) gave in and allowed Franchise Suppliers and Franchisees to join (the proverbial 3-legged stool), franchising was lucky to get an influx of fantastic women. Joyce Mazero, an attorney, I believe was the first female Chair of the Supplier Forum. Each segment of membership created their own forums that led the way to great programs and marketing events that benefited all of franchising.

As a rule, it was certainly an “old boys’ network.” Women, particularly in the Supplier segment, were very much kept at bay. Eventually, Joanne Shaw of The Coffee Beanery and the aforementioned Mary Ellen Sheets became bigger presences in leadership. We can’t deny today the role that women like Shelly Sun of BrightStar Care have played in furthering the focus of women in franchising.

In the early 90s, Victoria Conte, then of SUCCESS Magazine, promoted the mag’s unbelievably coveted “Gold 100” and I placed my clients carefully in the lineup if they qualified. We were the first to host fabulous dinners at the IFA convention. Only the IFA gave a cocktail party as popular as our dinners. Now, everyone is partying at all franchise events and it has made it a warmer and closer family for all.

Again, in the 90s Victoria and I were placed on the Awards Committee. That was a real honor for us and almost every candidate for an award was a man. Only the Bonny Levine Award (named for the co-founder of PIP Printing) was designated to go to a female franchisor. We tried hard to get the committee to consider suppliers for the award, which is meant to go to women who demonstrate professionalism, make contributions and mentor

other women in franchising. Out of the question then!

Now, some 30 years later Sherri Fishman of Fishman Public Relations, a franchise supplier, received this award at last month’s IFA convention. She and I came out of the same tiny PR firm in Chicago in the early 80s. Subway was one of our first franchise clients there, and their number of stores was in the hundreds, not the thousands. We are collectively responsible for literally building hundreds of franchise systems and attracting thousands of franchisees to the industry. Then helping them launch and run their businesses. Yes, we OGs have come a long way.

Owner-Operator

www.fibrenew.com/lincoln

In the more than 20 years as a Fibrenew franchise business owner, Ann Benes has never had to sacrifice her family for her career. She says it has been the perfect lifestyle business for raising her five children. She initially chose the leather, plastic and vinyl restoration franchise for its creative aspect and its flexible model. She also wanted something different than her and her husband’s main business — farming. “I really wanted something non-farm related,” she says.

Since Benes started at Fibrenew, the company has grown and evolved, but always kept its inclusive culture. Although Benes could have easily scaled her business much more, she has kept it small so that she can manage it from home without full-time employees. She hires contractors during busier times. “I kept my business smaller by choice,” she says.

Women are doing a lot more these days. There’s nothing about this business that makes it hard for a woman,” she says. In looking back at the last 20 years, Benes wouldn’t have changed a thing. She loves the work and feels good that she is able to restore items that would have ended up in landfills. Her advice for any woman considering Fibrenew is: “Do it!”

JAMIE LAVIGNE WOOFIES

Franchise Development Manager

www.woofies.com

Jamie started her career in Franchising on the supplier side as one of the first female franchise development specialist for Meineke. While there, she built a network of franchisees who still stay in touch with her to this day. She dispelled the myths that “car guys” needed to be Meineke franchisees and brought her usual passion for business to the company. She also introduced women and minorities to the business –something that is very important to her.

When asked about her greatest challenges as a woman in business Jamie noted that women can have the exact same aggressive and passionate approach to business as men. When it comes from a man it is taken seriously and the man is viewed as a visionary leader. When it comes from a woman it is often viewed in a less positive light. Ergo, women need to work harder and be more mindful of how they tak and dress in order to be taken seriously. Work life balance is much harder for women in business. And that’s one of the things she loves about Woofie’s. It allows that work life balance. Women can work from home and not miss their kids games or dance recitals. It was founded by two women looking for a career change who had a passion for pets and wanted to offer a better service that they had experienced in suburban DC.

These include online forums where people can ask questions about franchises, research conducted on franchising opportunities, seminars held by franchisors or industry experts on topics such as legal issues related to franchising, or financial management tips for franchisees; all these resources give potential franchisees invaluable information they need before making any decisions regarding franchising.

For many South Asians, franchising offers an attractive option as it is a proven business model with lower risks and higher chances of success than independent startups. Franchising allows an individual to get into business with an established brand name with its own loyal customers and employees. It also reduces the time required for market research & development, marketing & promotion, customer service & loyalty building activities when starting an independent venture. Furthermore, franchisors provide support services such as business training & consultations, which

126 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

help franchisees run their businesses efficiently and effectively.

In Houston alone, several successful South Asian franchise owners are making a mark for themselves in various industries such as hospitality, retail, food service, etc. These include restauranteur Kumar Daulatramani whose chain Café Bombay has been serving delicious Indian food

since 1999; Rajesh Bhavnani, who owns several Subway outlets; Sachin Kakkar, who runs a chain of Burger King restaurants Ricky Oberoi, who runs numerous Wendys in Texas and Florida and Anwar Siddiqui who owns multiple Papa John's Pizza outlets across the city.

Overall, it is clear that South Asians possess excellent business acumen, which is

evident from the number of successful entrepreneurs originating from this region all over America. The rise in the number of franchises owned by these individuals is a further testament to how educated members of this diaspora are putting their talents to good use while also providing opportunities for others within their communities through job creation, making them excellent role models for others aspiring to make it big in life through their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Young Entreprenuer is Flying High with Her Balloon Franchise

Every once in a while, you meet someone so remarkable, you can’t help but realize that often, we underestimate what’s truly possible. That

happened for me recently ,while I was visiting an exciting new franchisor with an innovative, 7-figure balloon delivery business. Asia Castro is an ambitious 24 year old, who worked her way up from a part- time balloon arranger to a successful franchise owner growing a very busy NJ territory . Balloon Kings is a mobile celebration business, delivering beautiful balloon arrangements for all kinds of events. There is also a neighborhood design center customers can visit for inspiration and custom ordering. They’ll see a menu of over 2,800 balloons , designed into 165+ popular arrangements.

Asia quickly learned the art of balloon design, and within a month took on more oneon-one working

with customers, both on the phone and out at events. It wasn’t long before she realized the potential and profitability of a business that had such high demand –aka. occasions to celebrate – all year around.

Gene Nifenecker, a veteran and an entrepreneurturned- franchisor, who’s recognized as “King Gene” in the balloon business, didn’t miss recognizing the potential in Asia either. At the time he was formulating his franchise offering, he was running both his NY and NJ territories. Once an official franchisor, the first and smartest move he made, he now says, was offering Franchise #1 to Asia. “She’s someone who can be both a student and a teacher. Ambitious, fearless but smart enough to know that there’s no reason to reinvent the wheel. We’re all about systems and Asia sees she’ll save time and energy and follow it and get more done that way!”. Gene added “ I see Asia as someone who has the potential to grow into a multi-territory owner, a corporate executive or frankly, whatever she wants to do. We’re fortunate now,

journey so far. She said “My advice to young minority women who want to start their own franchise is just DO IT. In life we are going to be faced with challenges but the real challenge is to START. Starting at a young age is a blessing. Being a woman owning a business, I don’t need to look for anyone to provide for me. I AM the provider. Women are here to take over and show everyone we can do it too and better! “

Asia shares what she finds most rewarding about business ownership through franchising: “ The most satisfying thing about being a franchise owner is the recipe is handed to you; the wholesalers, the training, construction of the interior etc. All the hard work is taken care of.”

From TV news to Franchising: AZALIA HOELTING’S Unique Journey

tell a story. Stories could be shorter and super impactful, even if they were not told as part of a full-length feature film. She had no idea where this love of storytelling would take her or how it would eventually lead to a highprofile job in the franchise marketing world.

It started with a Guns N’ Roses music video.

Azalia Hoelting was hooked. She fell in love with the editing, the pace, and, most of all, the storytelling.

Hoelting was a young girl at the time and had always wanted to be the “next Steven Spielberg,” but as she watched the music video, she learned there were a lot of ways to

Hoelting, now a franchise marketing veteran, is the new VP of Marketing for Scissors & Scotch, a high-end men’s grooming brand that’s shaking up the barbershop experience while shaking up drinks at each location’s cocktail bar.

When Hoelting first learned about the brand and its three young founders, Sean Finley, Erik Anderson, and Tanner

Wiles, she had one thought.

“I loved the story,” she said. “These guys are just authentic. And I hate to say that because the word is so overused, but they just are who they are. I love that!”

So, it was a no-brainer for her next step in franchising, and she joined the team in the spring of 2022.

FROM TV GLAMOUR TO FRANCHISING

Hoelting got her start in marketing by working in television newsrooms. Her job was to write and edit promos to inspire people to watch the news.

You’ve probably seen the kind of work she did. “Coming up tonight at 10, we have a shocking story you won’t want to miss!”

She was excellent at her job and worked her way up from smaller TV stations to her hometown area, the massive media market of Dallas-Fort Worth. And while many in her position focused on the product you see on TV, Azalia became interested in the metrics behind the product. She asked her boss for reports and wanted to learn more

134 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

about the numbers and how they translated to viewers.

The skill of being able to understand marketing data is what landed her a job outside of television news, working for a massage franchise brand, Massage Heights. She quickly fell in love with franchising and has been working in the industry for a variety of brands for the last nine years.

“Marketing is pretty similar across the board if you understand the metrics,” Hoelting said. “In the end, it’s about getting people to choose YOU. That’s what I was doing in TV, and that’s what I am doing now in franchising.”

JOINING THE MALEFOCUSED BRAND

Hoelting didn’t think twice about joining a brand focused mostly on men. Television has long been a bit of a “boys club,” so she is always prepared for anything. What stood out to her was how little

the co-founders, who now act as the company’s co-CEOs, seemed to care she was a woman and Hispanic.

“I never felt like a token. I never felt like they were trying to hire a woman for this role. We just clicked, and it’s a perfect fit,” she said.

Hoelting is excited to take everything she’s learned working for different companies and apply it to a brand on the rise.

“Azalia just gets it,” said Erik Anderson, co-CEO of Scissors & Scotch. “She knows how to take our story, use technical marketing tools and analytics, and attract people to S&S. She’s been the missing piece to our team, and we were so thrilled to bring her onboard last year.”

THE NEXT CHAPTER

Scissors & Scotch has already grown to 24 locations in 10 states, with more than 40 locations sold or currently under development, so there is a lot of work ahead for the VP of Marketing.

“I love being part of this team because, even though Scissors

& Scotch is a relatively young brand, it’s so forwardthinking,” said Hoelting. “We have many of the tools I was fighting for while working for bigger brands. I have everything I need to be successful in this position.”

Outside of work, Azalia is a happy new resident of Kansas City, which is home to the corporate headquarters of S&S. She also has two grown children, including a daughter who is establishing her own marketing career.

This is not the exact path she envisioned while watching Axl Rose prance across the screen, but it’s worked out about as well as she could have imagined.

135 WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM | MARCH 2023
“MARKETING IS PRETTY SIMILAR ACROSS THE BOARD IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE METRICS,” HOELTING SAID. “IN THE END, IT’S ABOUT GETTING PEOPLE TO CHOOSE YOU. THAT’S WHAT I WAS DOING IN TV, AND THAT’S WHAT I AM DOING NOW IN FRANCHISING.”

Mother Wants to Leave Legacy for Her Children as She Joins PILLAR TO POST HOME INSPECTORS® NETWORK

It’s certainly not the best time to be penny-wise and poundfoolish. Simple math quickly demonstrates that a home inspection is money well-spent when making what is typically the largest single investment most people will ever make. “That’s one piece of advice that’s hard to argue,” says Lori Wims, the new owner of Pillar To Post serving Orange County in Southern California. “No one needs surprises with what they are spending to buy a home in today’s market.”

And as far as choosing home inspection as a new career, these are industry facts: The U.S. building inspector industry, measured by revenue, is estimated to have a current market size of $4.9 billion according to global research firm IBISWorld.

Launching operations in January 2023, the 55-year-old Wims – a Laguna Niguel, Calif., resident – is a perfect example of someone with the knowledge and passion that provide the perfect combination for success as a Pillar To Post Home Inspectors franchise owner.

138 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
Lori Wims flipped 30 houses in her real estate career. Now she’s inspecting them.

Prior to joining Pillar To Post Home Inspectors, Wims worked in property management and accounting. But the mother of three and grandmother of two has bought and sold more than 30 homes and flipped about 10. “I’m educated on what can go wrong with a home and have worked with many trade professionals and real estate professionals over the years,” Wims said. “That experience will be invaluable in my new career with Pillar To Post Home Inspectors.”

Divorced for two years, Wims decided the time was right to launch a business of her own, and given her experience, a real estate-related field made the most sense. She knows what it takes to run a business since Wims is a minority partner in two businesses that provide residential housing for individuals with mental health conditions.

Cementing her decision to join Pillar To Post Home Inspectors was the fact that Wims was a past customer. “I know how exciting and nerve-wracking buying a new home can be,” Wims said. “But I loved how thorough they were and the professionalism of their reports. I started to do some research and realized that I could be part of the solution to helping homebuyers feel

comfortable and confident in their home purchase.”

Wims also had an equally important goal and it centered upon her family. “I wanted to start something that I could bring my children into someday,” Wims said. “My children and my grandchildren are my life and succeeding in this venture will allow me to leave them something exceptional down the road.”

One of the many reasons Wims chose Pillar To Post Home Inspectors is the innovative technologies the company introduced in the past 18 months. These advanced technologies, along with the business model, provide an exceptional home inspection with unique and innovative features that are all delivered within a seamless brand experience. All developed pre-pandemic and ready to be utilized when the pandemic struck, the new features further highlight Pillar To Post Home Inspectors’ standing as a visionary in its industry. The package is now known as the Ultimate Home Inspection and it’s revolutionizing the home inspection industry. So much so that the company was just awarded the muchcoveted Best Innovators by Franchise Update Media in the category of “best customer

service tools.”

“I’m excited about all the new technology that has come about to help inspectors do their jobs even better,” Wims said. “I have a passion for technology and implementing it in my new career.”

Wims’ passion for the newest chapter in her working career is easy to discern. Like anything thing else, she said it takes a lot of dedication and hard work, but the payoff is worth it.

“I like that I make all the decisions now, so I know exactly who is doing what and when and where,” Wims said. “If you do it right and work hard, the payoff is incredible. You call your own shots and have your time and freedom to spend with your family and friends, and hopefully, something to give to your family one day.”

When Adventure Meets Opportunity

Malaika Loftus, Corporate Cleaning Group Managing Partner, knew she and her family were destined for an alternative approach to their careers that allowed them to prioritize traveling, cultural experiences, and living life within a vacation mindset. While franchising was not initially on Loftus’s radar, the opportunity of ownership with Corporate Cleaning Group resonated with Malaika’s desire to build an income stream that allowed for maximum flexibility.

"Honestly, we were not looking for a franchise at first. It just so happened that the opportunity presented itself as we were in the process of acquiring a large cleaning company. During the process we truly began to appreciate the benefits that a franchise had to offer in terms of extended help, support, and guidance,” Loftus said.

Since pursuing a lifestyle focused on travel and adventure, Loftus, her husband, and her two children have experienced 30 different countries and 49 states. “We are an adventurous entrepreneurial family who enjoys traveling,

learning, and exploring the great outdoors together,” Loftus said. “We look to inspire an overall lifestyle change for anyone that is looking for something else out of their life. For the people that no longer want to be part of the cog and really want to take advantage of their time here on earth.”

Positioned within the janitorial services industry, Corporate Cleaning Group distinguishes itself from

it the perfect place for Owners who are interested in being hands-on, seeing true growth and prosperity,” Loftus said of her experience with the franchise.

Another beneficial aspect of Corporate Cleaning Group’s structure is the built-in support network for new Owners. With nearly 30 years of cumulative experience, Corporate Cleaning Group stands at the ready to provide advice

Tight quality control is also conducted at cleaning sites so that clients are left with pristine results at their facility.

“I would have to say the support system has truly been a lifeline. Having executives like Carrie go above and beyond to help onboard new staff or train existing ones was crucial for us in our transition phase, as we took over an existing company. Unlike the other franchisees, we did not build our clientele

competitors by focusing on a streamlined, strategic group of corporate office cleaning services, focused on education, religious, medical, and corporate buildings and facilities. “I believe that if you are looking for an opportunity that will only continue to keep growing in terms of the cleaning sector, this is it. The Corporate Cleaning Group model for running business and the atmosphere make

and guidance to new Owners, as well as consistent support that translates to customer satisfaction and repeat clients, ensuring a steady stream of business in a recession-proof industry. Even hiring and retention are made easy: Corporate Cleaning Group places a focus on hiring focused and efficient staff, meaning that jobs are done accurately and in a timely manner.

from the ground up and did not hire our staff personally,” said Loftus. “Everything was transferred to us and having the support system really helped us navigate the process.”

But it is her work for the last eight months as the Chief Woof Gang Way Officer for Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, the leader in specialty pet retail and grooming, that has her feeling excited and engaged.

“The Woof Gang Way means providing a friendly and funloving environment for pets and their owners,” said Bianca Ferrari, Woof Gang Bakery

and Grooming’s Chief Woof Gang Way Officer. “I am very passionate about upholding our brand’s mission of serving as a retreat for the pampered pet and ensuring each animal companion leaves our business groomed, revitalized, and indulged.”

Bianca is a former owner of a Woof Gang franchise, which gives her special insight into how to operate a successful neighborhood grooming store, and design effective training for others to thrive. She shines when creating innovative programs that cultivate an outstanding customer experience while supporting top-performing talent and teams.

Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming takes pride in providing best-in-class training and support to every franchise owner throughout the life of the franchise. Bianca believes that one of the many benefits of franchising with an industry leader like Woof Gang is that they have spent many years fine-tuning business model to perfection.

“The training program we built allows us to scale and grow the brand while maintaining our unique customer experience across all the neighborhood stores,” said Ferrari. “We call it the ‘Woof Gang Way,’ because it sets us apart and can’t be copied.’”

Bianca often gets animated when speaking about the work ahead at Woof Gang. Her role as the Chief Woof Gang Way Officer has her working directly with CEO Ricardo Azevedo to rebuild the strategy around grooming, training, and standards to develop and attract the best professionals.

Bianca credits the Woof Gang culture in creating a supportive structure for franchisee success as Woof

Gang continues to grow beyond the company’s current 200 locations. She also strongly believes in the importance of always improving, bringing their services to the next level, and fortifying the already strong culture of love, kindness, respect, and professionalism that makes Woof Gang stand out against the competition.

“We want to create a unique space that no one can copy because it’s so special,” she said “The customer experience should be comfortable for families that visit us and love should be everywhere. It’s a big mission and a beautiful one.”

Bianca cites the importance of building neighborhood networks so each Woof Gang store becomes a vital part of the community, and franchise owners and the professionals who work for them can succeed.

At 200 stores strong and growing, Bianca says there’s a demand to open Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming franchises.

“Our scores on Google are the best in the industry,” she said. “Woof Gang strives to

create a unique experience for customers and our competitors do not get as much positive feedback as we do. We need to keep perpetuating our outstanding customer service as we gain volume.”

Training, Bianca says, will always involve reinforcing the culture of Woof Gang.

“We want to have the right mindset and behaviors and attract franchisees according to the values we hold,” she said. “Woof Gang’s training and standards will bolster the company culture and will be reflected in the customer experience as well as the franchisees and their professional staff. I’m very excited for the future!”

Kitchen Solvers is on a mission to deliver pleasant remodeling experiences for every client. With over 50,000 kitchen projects successfully completed, becoming an

Owner of a Kitchen Solvers franchise means teaming up with industry experts who have vast experience and access to premium products, materials, services, and styles.

“I have always enjoyed seeing spaces transform from something old and worn out to something new and beautiful and, because of that, we started to dip our toe into fixing up properties and flipping houses. In rural Nebraska, we found that the process of organizing contractors and materials was stressful. We wanted to find a way to provide a local option for people who would benefit from a company that offered design, material and installation through one source,” said Kitchen Solvers Owner Patty Tidyman. “My husband and I explored what this would look like if we started this type of company on

our own and we quickly realized that it would be too overwhelming to try to establish it from the ground up. We were drawn to Kitchen Solvers because of their passion for customer service and for the great home office support.”

Jill McAdams, Kitchen Solvers Co-Owner, was drawn to the business from a background in carpentry and business. Seeking more flexibility in her professional life, McAdams and her husband and two children were able to relocate and find stability and control over their incomes by partnering with Kitchen Solvers. “The entrepreneurial spirit has always been a part of my life,” McAdams said. “Kitchen Solvers seemed like a perfect fit, especially being veteranfriendly. We fell in love with the Kitchen Solvers brand because at the time we joined, our visions were aligned. Since we had owned

businesses before, we knew that having the help from the franchise to form processes, marketing and operations would be beneficial and easier for us to start from scratch in a new area.”

McAdams was also impressed by the accessibility and quality of service received from Kitchen Solvers’ home office staff. “I cannot say enough good comments about the Kitchen Solvers support staff,” she said. “They all are experts in the division they run, will treat you like a

family member and respond quickly and professionally. They set the culture for the entire franchise, and it flows through to the franchisees. We are all one family working together to help each other succeed.”

Denisse Martinez, Owner at Kitchen Solvers, also praised the easily accessible support network of the Kitchen Solvers home office, as well as the built-in processes. “I have systems that can run a lot of what I have to do on autopilot. I can organize

my business better, follow up with my customers, and communicate with the corporate team in a heartbeat. I have the tools I had working for multinationals, in my little home office. I like the people that I work with and the products are high quality, so I trust what I'm selling, and that makes it easier,” Martinez said.

“I love Kitchen Solvers,” Martinez continued. “I would advise you to choose a franchise that's related to something that you like, something that you can see yourself doing everyday. After you decide on something, follow the process and be patient. Kitchen Solvers was the one for me, because the whole process is exciting for me. I can do it every day and not feel like I'm working.”

Female-Founded Brand Spotlight: The NOW Massage Sets Its Sights On 100 Boutiques by 2025

The NOW Massage, a wellness brand transforming the therapeutic massage space, recently celebrated the opening of its 41st boutique. With 20 new locations on the horizon this year, the brand hopes to have 100 boutiques open and operating by 2025, proving that the future is bright for the $18 billion a year massage industry.

We caught up with CoFounder & Chief Creative Officer Gara Post to discuss the brand’s recent successes and upcoming expansion, her experience as a female founder in franchising, and why NOW is the time to invest in the wellness industry.

Q) Tell us about The NOW’s evolution and how the business was started?

A) The NOW was founded on the principle that in today’s fast-paced society, self-care is a necessity, not a luxury. My husband Jason and I cofounded The NOW with our company Post Investment Group, which focuses on three sectors; health and wellness, real estate and consumer products. We saw there was a void in the marketplace for high-quality massage in an inspired setting without the time commitment and cost of a traditional spa. Success followed and we scaled from one to four boutiques in 18 months. Our franchise journey began in 2019 and in less than four years, The NOW has opened 41 boutiques and signed over 130 franchise agreements.

154 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

Q) As you’ve expanded nationwide, how has The NOW’s corporate team grown and what opportunities have you created for women in franchising?

A) To encourage and support

The NOW’s exponential growth, we grew our franchise support team by 57% last year. Eleven new team members were added across training, operations and marketing departments, from executive to managerial levels. Our leadership team consists of nearly a dozen women in various roles, with a combined 50+ years of franchising experience. It’s exciting to have a team of so many dynamic women driving The NOW’s next stage of growth from coast to coast.

Q) What advice would you give to women who are looking to own a franchise or work in the franchising space?

A) My advice is to start by finding a product, service or concept you are passionate about or one that inspires change. The NOW offers prospective female franchise owners the opportunity to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations and make a positive impact in their communities. Personally, I am always focused on

finding balance as a mom through self-care, which was one of the original inspirations for creating The NOW. Additionally, I believe we are giving all women an opportunity to unplug and unwind by creating their own self-care oasis. Women rarely take the time to recharge, especially when they have a family and additional responsibilities at home. The reality is that taking a well deserved mind and body break makes you a better leader, parent and all around person.

Q) What does the future hold for The NOW?

A) We have 20 boutique openings planned for 2023, including bringing The NOW to several new markets: Settle, Portland and Bend. In addition to those boutiques, we are launching additional locations in California, Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, Colorado, Ohio and more. The NOW is aiming to sign additional franchise agreements in Southern California, Dallas Fort Worth, Houston, Long Island, St. Louis and more. The NOW’s

ideal partner is a communitydriven, multi-unit operator and entrepreneurial self-starter with a passion for wellness.

Q) Why is NOW the time to buy a NOW boutique?

A) Recognized as a “Top Franchise Brand” for three consecutive years, there has never been a better time to own a NOW franchise. According to the Global Wellness Institute, the wellness economy will reach nearly $7.0 trillion in value by 2025, proving there is a lot of growth and opportunity in the selfcare space. The NOW franchise boasts a recurring and predictable revenue stream, in-depth training and support across real estate, operations, marketing and more, plus a seasoned executive team with more than 200+ years of franchise experience. All of this contributes to a scalable model that allows for franchise owners to open multiple units. Finally, there is a pride of ownership that comes with owning a NOW boutique that our franchise owners really embrace.

The cost to open a NOW franchise ranges from $477,459–$819,109, including a $60,000 franchise fee. For more information on franchising with The NOW, visit thenowmassage.com/ own-a-boutique.

Building a Strong Business on Customer Satisfaction

When Holly Bancroft decided she wanted to extend her professional footprint into the world of franchising, the well-

established structure of Window Hero’s business model immediately seemed like a good fit. With a successful career at a software company also in the mix, the appeal of an existing franchise

opportunity like Window Hero made Bancroft feel confident that she could also find plenty of room to grow her business within the Window Hero exterior cleaning services model.

“I think franchising provides a great opportunity to jump right into a business model and branding that has already shown success. There is support and a structure to work with that is much more difficult to achieve when starting a business from scratch. Window Hero has both fantastic branding and a helpful support system in place,” Bancroft said.

Window Hero specializes in delivering exterior window cleaning, power washing, gutter cleaning, and gutter guard installation services. With a special focus placed on customer service, prospective Owners can feel confident that the centralized Sales and Scheduling Center at Window Hero will expertly field inbound and outbound calls. With minimal upfront investment and no expensive equipment purchase requirements, Window Hero offers easy entry for Owners seeking to establish themselves in the growing

exterior cleaning services market.

“It has been exciting to see all the different elements of a business come together!

Window Hero's support system has taken the stress out of that process by providing helpful guidance about everything from equipment recommendations to marketing strategies,” Bancroft said. “I think marketing is especially important for a new business, and an area many new business owners like me struggle to be effective in.

Window Hero has really helped in putting together a plan that utilizes a strong online presence along with traditional marketing strategies. It has definitely exceeded my expectations, and I would recommend it to anyone who is seeking to streamline a successful business start up.” Window Hero Owners are given access to the 90-Day Referral Marketing Plan, and sharing data across franchise locations is a helpful benefit that allows Owners to see

what marketing tactics are working successfully in other locations.

As for others considering a Window Hero ownership opportunity, Bancroft didn’t hesitate to express her confidence in the company and overall team. “My advice would be, go for it, and give it all you got! You will see there is an infectious excitement and mentality of success when becoming a franchisee of a company like Window Hero. While you still have autonomy over your business, you are coming into a community of people who want to see you succeed and have systems in place to achieve that goal. If you take advantage of using those resources with that

same mindset of success, you will have an opportunity to build a fantastic business that is a benefit to you, your employees, and the people you serve,” Bancroft said.

The exterior cleaning services market continues to grow, with the industry considered solidly recessionresistant, and Window Hero is additionally backed by Homefront Brands. Ensuring high customer satisfaction and subsequent customer retention are also a large part of Window Hero’s successful model. “The culture of excellence Window Hero seeks to create is one I want to be a part of. I see a steady need for exterior cleaning services where I live in central Florida, and Window Hero is the perfect brand to serve that need,” Bancroft said.

THE FRESH MONKEE

The Fresh Monkee is the future of the massive smoothie industry. That’s because many people struggle to incorporate nutrient dense foods that fit into their lifestyles. It’s a challenge to find healthy alternatives that are convenient, good for our bodies and taste good. The Fresh Monkee is the answer. Our fast, on-the-go, healthful options have literally changed the way our customers eat. We blend protein shakes filled with fruits, vegetables, nut butters, seeds and highquality protein. Customers can customize their orders based on dietary restrictions.

We offer vegan, dairy free, low carb, keto and more. Unlike other brands we don’t depend on sugary syrups, sweetened fruits and ice.

WHY

PROTEIN SHAKES?

When you are trying to maintain your health, it’s important to include the three macronutrients: Carbs, Proteins, and Fats. The Fresh Monkee Shakes start with a high-quality Protein and builds from there using healthy Carbohydrates such as vegetables, chia and flax seeds, low-fat graham crackers, sugar free non-hydrogenated cookies and protein bars. Then we add healthy Fats such as coconut oil or natural peanut

and almond butters. We also offer antioxidant options such as cacao nibs and sugar free cocoa. If a customer wants, we can kick it up a notch with Nutella, marshmallows, sugar free chocolate and caramel syrups.

HEALTH BENEFITS

High-quality Protein is essential to a balanced shake because it helps to slow the naturally occurring sugars in fruit and digestion of carbohydrates. This keeps your blood sugar from spiking, providing energy over a longer period of time. Unlike juice bars where they remove the precious fiber from the fruits and vegetables, we

162 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

blend them all in. This is vital because fiber is a great pre and pro biotic critical for gut health and satiety. Finally, healthy fats from nut butters and coconut oil.

OUR TARGET CUSTOMERS

One of the unique parts of our brand is that it is for everyone who wants a healthy alternative while on the go. If you stop into one of our locations, you will see a diverse group of customers, from athletes post workout to young children with their moms, groups of friends, people who workout, people looking to boost their energy, keep their sugar levels in check, pack on muscle, or simply feel good about what they are putting into their bodies. Over the years, we have had multiple cases where

a customer going through chemotherapy is only able to stomach our shakes, pregnant moms having cravings, but want something healthy, or moms looking to fill their kids up with something other than sugary smoothies or ice cream (TIP: We can sneak in spinach and the kids will never know!).

WHY A FRESH MONKEE FRANCHISE?

The Fresh Monkee has helped thousands of customers maintain a healthy lifestyle through our "clean" and healthy protein shakes and snacks. Now more than ever people want healthier options. It’s time to bring that same healthy, on-thego concept to the entire nation. Healthy Fast Casual is one of the fastest growing segments in the restaurant space. We offer a low-cost, and simple buildout that provides flexibility for multiple types of locations which include in-line store fronts, drive-thru configurations and mobile units. We also believe in keeping operations simple; there are no grease traps, cooking grills, fryers or hoods which helps keep costs down and operations simple. Having an efficient and simple operating platform results in a lower labor model compared to most quick service or fast casual models. Our model is perfect for the executive owner operator that is looking for a career change or for the semiabsentee investor who is looking to diversify their business portfolio while

keeping their corporate job. We are also offering multiunit and area developer opportunities in key markets throughout the US.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

The Fresh Monkee was supposed to be a fluke. Something to get me out of finance until I figured out my next move. I mean, who starts with 10 recipes, 1 size shake and a single blender and thinks that will lead anywhere but another desk job? It seems surreal being here, addressing you. Someone that may someday be part of my Monkee family. I am so proud of what we’ve achieved so far.

I was adopted as a baby and welcomed into an incredible family. I am one of the lucky few. Despite and maybe because of, being horribly taunted and teased as someone that didn’t look like anyone else around my small town and having a severe eating disorder for decades, I am here today, healthy, happy and surrounded by an incredible staff and partners. I invite you to be part of something better. Something healthier. Something you can be proud to call your own.

5 Things I Know Now (that I wish I knew then)

Musings from a Woman in Business

Iwas lucky enough to grow up with a mother who taught me the importance of independence, hard work, and patience. She was a self-made woman. Never given the opportunity to go to college, she set out with a goal to start a small sidehustle. She wanted to make $100 a week. A career of perseverance enabled her to build a great company. One that I

am fortunate to have purchased from her in 2020.

The Mailworks is my twin sibling. Starting the same year I was born, we’ve grown up together. The lessons learned have culminated in a lifetime of entrepreneurship played out at work and at home. Being a woman in business is its own kind of tricky. Owning the business, a family business, comes

with a heightened set of challenges and a whole slew of walls to knock down. I took over as President in 2012 at just 28 years old. I’d had my first child a few months before and was navigating the life of a new mother and President of a company. It’s been a wild ride, but one I wouldn’t get off of even if I had the chance to.

As we celebrate women in business, I find myself thinking back on the lessons I’ve picked up along the way. On the eve of our 40th year (the company and I), I’d like to share a few bits of advice with my fellow business owners and the women that will blaze the trail next…

1. SOME MOMENTS YOU CAN NEVER GET BACK I missed out on a lot when it comes to motherhood and my children early in my career. Looking back, I regret not putting my work aside to be more present at home (especially during postpartum). I worried that if I paused my career, I would lose my momentum and not be able to get it back.

166 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

But, looking back, if I had slowed down I would have gone faster overall… (slow is smooth, smooth is fast!) It took years to make up for that time in other ways.

2. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST

If I’m not maintaining some level of self-care in my routine, the rest of my work suffers. It can be hard as a business owner to create boundaries and maintain your own personal goals. You are not your business (even though it may feel like we are a lot of the time).

For me this means exercise, whether it’s running or getting on the bike, having my nails done or scheduling a hair appointment. It seems basic, but these small elements of maintenance are things that can fall off quickly when the business consumes your life. Fill your cup first because you can’t pour out when it’s empty.

3. WORRYING DOESN’T ACCOMPLISH MUCH

If I had a dollar for every minute I’ve worried, I’d be retired! Early on, I lost so much time being worried about the “what if” doomsday scenarios. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. You only have so much of it. Investing our energy into worry only increases anxiety, leads to poor decision making, and sucks the joy out of the best moments. Most of what we worry about never comes to pass. Focus on doing what you can, with what you have, where you are.

4. YOU ARE THE SMALLEST PART OF THE (SUCCESS) EQUATION

You, as the business owner, are only one part of the company’s overall success. I’ve come to learn I am the smallest part! My team carries this company to greatness. Being humble about your own talents allows

the people around you to shine. Learning to know your role is challenging. I believe the role of any business owner is to set the vision, motivate, inspire, and help give others the opportunity to lead. At The Mailworks, I’m also proud to have built a leadership team with other strong women.

5. STUDENTS OF LIFE EARN DIVIDENDS

I ask myself daily - what did I learn today? What can I do better tomorrow? No matter how successful a person becomes, there is always room for growth. The more you learn (reading, from others, classes, etc), the more you are able to grow. The time we invest in self improvement and the effort we put into learning pays off. Students of life earn dividends in their relationships, compensation, and overall well being.

Brewing Up New Ideas at Scooter’s Coffee

Missy McKinley never dreamed she’d call Omaha, Nebraska, home. But, building a career in corporate America, she never imagined she’d be so taken by franchising, either. Then, in 2015, she went to work for Circle K. “I loved being able to help individual entrepreneurs become successful in their world instead of just helping

a big corporation,” said McKinley. “To see people come in and invest their money and their trust in a brand and be successful… I was hooked.”

When the company restructured in 2017, McKinley left franchising. She relocated to Seattle to take a job as the vice president of operations for a wireless company. Two years later, Scooter’s Coffee called. “The director of talent

acquisition said they wanted to talk to me about a role in operations. Quite honestly, at the time, I had never heard of Scooter’s Coffee.”

McKinley flew out to Omaha to meet with their leadership team and knew right away this was a brand that cared about its franchisees. “Literally, the very first question they asked me was, ‘Our core values are integrity, love, humility, and courage. What do those mean to you?’” After that, she was hooked again. “I thought I knew a lot about the franchise model until I came to Scooter’s Coffee. CEO Todd Graeve has been one of my mentors. Both he and founder Don Eckles have taught me so much.”

McKinley began with Scooter’s Coffee four months before the COVID pandemic, just as the company entered a period of rapid growth — expanding from 260 locations in 2019 to almost 600 today. “I’ve been really fortunate to see the system grow and bring in so many fantastic new franchisees who are doing really well.”

Scooter’s Coffee is focused on helping the franchisees grow their businesses. “Our fifth, unofficial, core value is unit-level profitability for our franchisees. That drives every decision we make ‘Is this going to be in the best interest of the franchisees? Are they

170 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

going to be able to grow their unit-level profits?’ Because if they do, they are going to be successful and buy more stores,” said McKinley.

One of the changes has been a complete redesign of the company’s kiosk model, increasing their size from 450 to 660 square feet. “You can only fit so many people in there. You can only have one cash register in a drive-thru business so how do you get cars through that drive-thru lane faster? Your sales are 100% capped by the number of customers you can get through that drive-thru.”

The company has also introduced automatic espresso machines. “The consistency and quality of

the drinks we serve are Scooter’s Coffee’s main priority. These machines allow us to have a consistent customer experience in every store every day.”

One of McKinley’s proudest accomplishments so far is the development of Scooter’s Coffee’s Franchisee Experience and Training Roadmap. Called FEAT, it’s a curriculum that combines eLearning, live and virtual workshops, and hands-on training to help new franchisees navigate the ins and outs of owning a business. McKinley understood the need for something like that in her second week on the job. “I visited with a franchise getting ready to open his first store, and he told me, ‘I’ve never

been a business owner before. I’ve never hired or supervised anyone.’ It dawned on me that if we wanted to be different, It wasn’t just about what happens in the restaurant — it was how we support our franchisees to be successful in that world.”

As a woman in franchising, McKinley considers herself fortunate to work for a company like Scooter’s Coffee, where many women hold management positions. She understands how others may see her story as the exception, not the rule. “I’ve had many people come up to me and say, ‘it is truly amazing to see so many women in leadership,’ or ‘I’m so glad you’re on the team.’”

Her advice to other women in franchising is to go for it. “I truly believe you can be successful by sticking to your core values, leading with kindness and integrity, and surrounding yourself with great people.”

MORE ABOUT MISSY

Missy McKinley, the Senior Vice President of Operations for Scooter’s Coffee, joined the franchise in 2019 to help franchise development, training, and support teams expand the brand. With her expertise, Scooter’s Coffee grew from 260 locations in 2019 to nearly 600 in 2022.

Pool Service Owner Becomes Expert in Field to Grow Her Business

Several years ago, Lisa Ifland oversaw the installation and building of a new pool at her home. What intended to be a project to create a family gathering place for relaxation, social gatherings, and years of fun memories for the family eventually became much more. It was the early foundation of starting her

own business.

At the time, Lisa was working in corporate America, where she’d taken up residency at cubicles for 25 years working in IT and as a procurement manager. As the earth in her backyard was overturned, and the shape of her new dream pool was taking form, she had an idea. Lisa knew she could own her own pool business.

As she became involved in the pool operations at her home, she researched everything she could about the subject and gained the confidence she needed to start her own business.

Fast forward to April 2019, Lisa opened her own Pinch A Penny swimming pool retail, service, and repair store. She made an immediate impact in

174 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

the Dallas market, establishing service routes and maintaining more than 70 local pools in the months before the store even officially opened.

“When something excites you, and you feel that bit of fear, you are absolutely going to grow,” she said. “I was really stepping out of my comfort zone, but I have experienced so much growth in the last four years owning and operating a franchise. It is a business that I knew nothing about, and my only option was to learn it and know it all. There is no aspect of my business that I have any type of fear in today.”

She says it takes a confident approach to run a store, especially one that is dominated by men. Zippia estimates more than 93% of pool technicians are men, and Guidant Financial reports women account for about 30% of small business and franchise owners in the U.S. These are statistics Lisa feels daily. In fact, her suppliers

know her when she calls because she is the only female pool store owner they deal with.

“I don’t know any other woman doing what I am doing in this market,” said Lisa.

The makeup of the industry doesn’t deter her from pursuing what she knew was a service people needed in her area, and one that could be very successful. Along the way, she has learned every inch of her business—occasionally to the surprise of customers or suppliers. Lisa said people will walk right past her to ask her male employees questions about equipment and mechanical issues.

“When I start talking to them about it, they are blown away,” said Lisa. “I know equipment, and I know my business. I walk them through various scenarios, and they say to me, ‘You have a lot of passion for what you do because I can see it and feel it in the way you are communicating to me.’ I think that is a compliment, and I

have a lot of passion for my business”.

Her dedication has driven her business to success, along with the help of a strong brand and support system. She is the sole operator, but she hired a top-notch staff and a store manager. Even her son and daughter have worked in the store, which she calls “one of the coolest blessings”.

It’s more than family assistance that has brought in a wave of success. Pinch A Penny provides tremendous franchisee support, which she says is integral to her success. The company name brought customers, and her drive led to profits. In addition, Pinch A Penny’s training helped hone her business skills and learn the fine details of every part of the operation. In three years, her store almost hit $2 million in sales. With her astounding growth, her store received an internal award for the highest increase in sales year-overyear from 2020 to 2021.

“Having the knowledge, the trust, engaging with the customer with empathy and diplomacy is all important with being a woman who owns and operates her own business,” Lisa said.

What advice would she share with other female franchise owners? To learn every inch of the business they pursue. When they are confident in speaking about all the business’s ins-andouts, they will be able to earn the customers’ trust. That will then help the franchise succeed and grow.

Empowering Wellness and Recovery with CEO Tatum Crews

Welcome to the world of wellness where the mind, body, and soul are paramount to living your best life. The Covery Wellness Spa is a boutique spa committed to providing noninvasive therapies that strengthen and rejuvenate the body. The brand has recently announced the promotion of Tatum Crews to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Crews is an accomplished professional with ten years of experience in franchising, beginning her career with nationally recognized brand Orangetheory. With her business and management experience, Crews is perfectly suited to lead The Covery to new heights. She has a passion for health and wellness and, through her work and personal life, seeks to share this with as many people as possible.

“I have always been health

conscious and lived a healthy lifestyle, and I am excited to bring my passion and experience to The Covery in my new role,” says Crews.

Crews has played a significant role in the brand since its inception, originally serving as the company’s VP of Franchise Sales & Marketing. Since the start, she is committed to propelling the brand forward with a controlled and aggressive growth strategy that emphasizes quality and brand awareness. Crews is also committed to working closely with franchisees to ensure that The Covery's high standards are met in every location to make the brand a household name in the wellness space.

At The Covery, the concept is simple – life is a sport, and people need the opportunity to recover just like athletes do. The brand recognizes that recovering from workouts is just as important as the

actual workout itself. For those managing others, dealing with the stresses of everyday life, or owning a business, mental and physical recovery is essential to performance. With this consideration, The Covery aims to expand what recovery and wellness could be, including services ranging from aesthetics, wellness, and performance optimization.

The Covery Wellness Spa currently has six locations open, with 15 new franchises currently in development, as well as several resort and wellness licenses in place. The brand has an estimated 100 locations sold by the end of 2023. As The Covery continues its franchise expansion, the brand is actively seeking multi-unit franchise partners passionate about health and wellness and wanting to bring restorative therapies to new communities.

Crews is excited about the opportunities that come with the wellness industry's continued growth. According to Club Automation, women make up around 70% of the global health and wellness workforce, but hold only about 25% of its leadership positions.

178 MARCH 2023 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM

The promotion of Crews to CEO is an important step towards a more genderdiverse wellness space. She is one of few women in the wellness industry to advance to an executive leadership position within a brand.

“I’m incredibly proud of this opportunity I have been given, especially as a woman in this industry,” said Crews. “I am proud to take on this new role and work to bring insight and perspective that is underrepresented at this level, and in turn provide an inclusive brand with services for everyone.”

As CEO, Crews aims to empower her team to become the best versions

of themselves and make executive decisions that propel the brand in the right direction. She is committed to entrusting, believing in, and empowering her team to help The Covery realize its goals and ultimately achieve success. Her impressive business and management experience, combined with her commitment to the brand's growth, make her an ideal leader. With Tatum Crews at the helm, the brand will continue to grow, expand, and provide quality wellness services to new communities.

The Covery Wellness Spa provides non-invasive therapies that strengthen both the mind and the

body, with this reflected in their offerings including cryotherapy, infrared sauna, compression therapy, red light, iv therapy, facials, and much more.

The team at The Covery aims to always provide an exceptional experience for their clients, and their treatments are designed to address a wide range of wellness concerns, from stress reduction to muscle recovery.

The Covery's commitment to quality, excellence, and inclusivity makes them an attractive franchise opportunity for anyone who is passionate about health and wellness. As the brand continues to grow, they are actively seeking multi-unit franchise partners who share their values and commitment to excellence. If you are passionate about health and wellness and want to make a positive impact on your community, The Covery is the franchise opportunity for you.

Franchising for Israelis in Israel and the USA: An amazing potential for generational wealth building

If you are an Israeli residing in the USA or Israel and wish to be at the forefront of this great source of growing potential, then you are a prime candidate for Franchising businesses in Israel and the USA.

Israel is known to many as a “startup nation,” with a growing and stable economy, coupled by its highly educated and young population, Israel has a wealth of consumers with a great appetite that can drive franchise growth.

Are you an Israeli with

a strong entrepreneurial streak running through your veins? Why not invest in your own backyard?

As a technologically advanced nation, Israel is the epitome of state-ofthe-art communications and agility with high-tech innovation at its very core. Due to these factors, plus some fragmented market segments that lack clarity, make the nation of Israel ripe for a franchising BOOM.

It is true that Israel’s business scene is remarkable for its world-class start-ups and savvy tech corporations. However, exciting opportunities remain as many industry segments continue to be fragmented and dominated by independent operators. To name a few underdeveloped franchise opportunities are home and personal service, home

healthcare, business related services, and educational enrichment. Significant Franchising footprints in Israel should not only be limited to just several industries, such as restaurants and fitness.

We strongly believe that this is a great growth opportunity and in conjunction will promote the strengthening of USA/Israeli ties. We can help spearhead some exciting new and mature brands to become pioneers in Israel!

In short, it's a WIN WIN situation.
