IN 2017, WE SALVAGED AND REDISTRIBUTED 395 tonnes of food

CFO BITES

Food forms the very fabric of society and humanity. Not only does it nourish our bodies, it also nourishes our souls, allowing us to enjoy and build bonds as we indulge.

As The Food Bank Singapore moves into our 6th year of existence, we hope to build more than just a network of food aid. We also hope to bring more joy to those who we serve, with simple indulgences and yummy treats. And who would ever decline a cup of hot chocolate (or Milo) on a cold windy night. 雪中送炭。

In 2018, we would like to thank those who have been with us on this lovely journey of feeding those in need.

Let food be the connector of people and let’s continue to spread the yummy word of love, peace and joy

HIKE IN NUMBER OF FOOD BUNDLES DISTRIBUTED

A total of 21,284 food bundles were packed and distributed to our beneficiary clients by volunteers this year, a 26% increase from the previous year. We would like to thank donors and volunteers who have contributed to this feeding programme.

BIGGEST FOOD DRIVE HELD

Surpassing their 10 ton goal, Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Life Sciences & Chemical Technology (LSCT) held the biggest food drive this year, with a total of 11.4 tons of food being collected!

PROJECT XCESS

In celebration of World Food Day, FBSG held a cooking competition where participants took up the mystery box challenge that involved using close-toexpiry, "ugly" and rejected food items and whipped them into gourmet dishes. This was to highlight the vast amount of food that goes to waste due to aesthetic filtering and selection.

THE FOOD BANK JUNIORS CLUB

This year, we have seen a 125% increase in Junior volunteers, and we are always on the lookout for more helping hands!

In the first half of the year, more than 100 Junior Foodbankers gathered to pack and distribute 450 healthier food bundles to beneficiaries from Peace Connect Senior Activity Centre and Pertapis.

To encourage the little ones to be more appreciative of the food on their plate, we organised a field trip to Farmart, where Uncle William shared about the life cycles of different farm animals and our Junior Foodbankers got a chance to come upclose and personal with the animals!

All decked out in Santa hats and Reindeer headbands, more than 80 Junior Foodbankers gathered at Teck Whye to spread the festive cheer and deliver food rations to beneficiaries from Fei Yue Senior Activity Centre.

food donations to FBSG’s Warehouse fluctuate with some months seeing 20 tonnes and others, a whopping 60 tonnes. Beneficiary centre supervisors were invited to pick and pack items needed for their beneficiaries. After these sessions, it leaves our warehouse empty but our beneficiaries full with nutritious food and smiles on their faces.

2017 saw an increase in F&B establishments and hotels reaching out with their excess cooked and perishable food. By the end of the year, we managed to salvage and redistribute 3.2 tonnes of cooked food, more than 1950 cupcakes and tarts, and more than 263,500 croissants.

We are on the lookout for more Food Rescue partners, so feel free to reach out us to kickstart

FBSG X SODEXO

FBSG is proud to have partnered with Sodexo Singapore for The Sodexo Servathon, its annual feeding programme to give back to society.

On July 1, more than 100 Sodexo staff came to pack and distribute food and welfare bags for about 400 clients of Thye Hua Kwan Senior Activity Centre @208 and even shared a meal together.

Collectively, Sodexo also managed to pool together $18,700 and $5,200 worth of vouchers to support our feeding programmes in 2018.

To end off the year, a pop-up supermarket was brought to THK SAC AMK @ 208 where 200 elderly were given the opportunity to pick and choose healthy food items for their goodie bag, with health tips and nutrition advice from staff volunteers.

PROJECT XCESS

FBSG has launched Project Xcess, a campaign to highlight the large volume of food that Singapore has been dumping due to cosmetic filtering.

The inaugural Project Xcess featured Singapore’s first cooking competition by challenging participants to whip up dishes using ugly and close to expiry food that would have been unconsumed.

Several video entries were submitted with six teams selected to take part in the finals at Palate Sensations Cooking School

Through this campaign, FBSG hopes to share recipes and tips on preparing nutritious and wholesome meals even with a shoestring budget.

Give the less fortunate access to the excess.

Electrolux Singapore led a social media campaign that encouraged netizens to post a photo of an expired, or soon to be expired, food or leftover items in their home on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and share what they can do with it. For every five hashtags/social media shares, Electrolux would fund the costs of running FBSG's van for one day

The campaign concluded in the last week of November with such great response. We are grateful to have our van's expenses covered for 2018!

Pan Pacific Hotels Group Healthier Eating Campaign

For the second year running, we partnered with Pan Pacific Hotels Group in celebration of World Food Day! From July 15 to August 15, 1% of all F&B proceeds from its five hotels were used to pledge 1,722 Customised Healthy Food Bundles for the less privileged in Singapore.

The Healthy Food Bundles consisted of local fresh produce from Comcrop, saucepans from Tott Store and dry goods from FoodXervices

Inc. We would like to say a big "thank you" to all the partners and volunteers involved in this campaign.

Regular Fresh Food Truck Distribution
