Celebrating 35 years
Dear Discovery Community,
On behalf of the Discovery Board, I’m delighted to welcome your family to the 2025–26 school year! If you’re new to Discovery, a very warm welcome to you we’re so glad you’re here
This year is especially exciting as Discovery celebrates its 35th anniversary From its humble beginnings, our school has grown into a thriving Montessori IB World School, now serving more than 350 students from toddlers through 8th grade. What a journey it’s been!
As a Board, we’re proud of all that’s been accomplished and are excited to continue supporting the growth of our programs and our beautiful campus always with our students at the heart of everything we do.
I look forward to seeing many of you on campus soon!
Warmly,
Helen Nicholson Board Chair
The Discovery School Board 2025-26
Founded in 1990, The Discovery School is honored to celebrate 35 years as a vibrant, nurturing community where children and families come together to learn, grow, and discover As a progressive, independent school serving children from 18 months through 8th grade, The Discovery School offers an educational experience that honors each child’s natural curiosity and encourages them to become lifelong learners.
Rooted in the renowned Montessori philosophy and expanding through the globally respected International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), our program is thoughtfully designed to support the whole child fostering not only academic growth but also confidence, compassion, and a strong sense of self.
For 35 years, The Discovery School has embraced the Montessori Method to ignite a love of learning in our youngest students Within our multi-age classrooms, children explore, collaborate, and learn at their own pace, guided by caring educators who recognize and celebrate each child’s unique gifts. Parents are valued partners in this journey, and our warm, welcoming community ensures that families feel connected and supported from the very start.
As students grow, their educational path continues through the IB Primary Years Programme, which encourages them to explore big ideas, ask meaningful questions, and take action in the world around them In both Montessori and IB, active engagement and student voice are at the heart of the learning experience helping children develop as inquirers, thinkers, and responsible members of their community.
In our Middle School, the Discovery experience evolves to meet the changing needs of adolescents. The program builds on the school’s long-standing values while creating space for students to exercise greater independence, critical thinking, and leadership. With an emphasis on socialemotional learning, collaboration, and personal growth, the Middle School fosters a strong sense of belonging and prepares students for future academic success while ensuring they remain curious, confident, and grounded in community values
As we celebrate 35 years of shared learning and discovery, we are filled with gratitude for the many families who have helped shape our story. Together, we look forward to the years ahead continuing to nurture compassionate, capable learners who will contribute meaningfully to their world.

The Discovery School is proud to be part of the North Florida Independent School Athletic Conference (NFISAC), which offers athletic programs for students in grades three through six. The NFISAC provides a select group of private schools to compete in basketball, volleyball, flag football, and soccer. The Discovery School's involvement is dependent on student interest in each sport.
The Discovery School offers after-school enrichment opportunities for our current students, alumni, and community members. Our After School Adventures Program strives to offer a variety of athletic, academic, and art-focused classes for all ages.
Extended day is available during the school year. Siblings are welcome to join precare free of charge. Precare is divided into two sections: Toddler and Primary/Elementary. Aftercare is also available for all full-day students from 3:00-5:30 pm For registration links, please check the school website or Discovery Update.
The school runs a daily lunch program through FoodDays. Menus rotate every two weeks. Parents have the option to order food to be delivered to their child’s classroom. Orders must be placed by midnight on Sunday for the upcoming week. We utilize many local vendors in the Beaches community. If you need any assistance, please email lunch@thediscoveryschool.org.
Uniforms encourage independence in dressing by allowing the child to mix and match items and know they are dressed appropriately. Wearing “school clothes” helps children be in a school mindset. They also aid focus in the classroom when children are less distracted by the clothing of others. It is our expectation that children’s uniforms are clean and look neat on a daily basis. In designing the item and color list, we attempted to make it easy and flexible for parents and comfortable for children. To ensure that students are appropriately dressed, The Discovery School has created the following guidelines for student dress. Logo items may be purchased through Lands’ End (preferred school #900064593). Bottoms or non-logoed items may be purchased from any store if they adhere to the dress code and school colors.

At Discovery, we believe it takes a community to create a truly exceptional learning experience Each year, every family plays a vital role in helping us go beyond what tuition alone can provide ensuring our students have access to the resources, opportunities, and experiences that help them thrive as curious, compassionate, and capable learners.
The Discovery Fund is our annual invitation to come together as one school community and invest in the everyday magic of a Discovery education
Your gift no matter the size makes a meaningful difference. It supports the extras that make Discovery extraordinary: immersive overnight field trips, innovative technology in every classroom, passionate learning specialists, inspiring arts programs, beloved traditions like Grandparents & Special Friends Day, and so much more.
When every family gives, we all grow stronger together. Join us in making this year unforgettable for our students.
At The Discovery School, we imagine a future where every student has the space, tools, and experiences they need to grow as explorers, creators, and compassionate leaders. Through the vision and generosity of our community parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends that future is taking shape every day.
Capital giving allows us to dream bigger and do more. Recent projects such as the dedicated Art Studio and the Peter & Jennifer Sleiman Building are living examples of how these investments enrich our students’ daily lives.
But we are not standing still. With your continued partnership, we look ahead to bold new possibilities:
Innovative playground facilities designed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and joyful learning
A dynamic new athletic complex where students can build skills, confidence, and school spirit
As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, The Discovery School welcomes tax-deductible gifts that help turn these dreams into reality Every contribution fuels the future we are building together one that will benefit Discovery students for generations to come. Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey. The best is yet to come
What are the expectations of Discovery Families?
We hope you’ll choose to be fully engaged in the life of our school. We recognize that there are many ways you can share your time, talents, and resources, and we invite you to make Discovery a top priority for both volunteer involvement and philanthropic support
There are countless opportunities to get involved whether by volunteering in classrooms, supporting athletic or music events, helping organize community gatherings, or working alongside our advancement team on fundraising efforts. We believe that every family has something special to contribute, and we encourage you to find the ways that feel meaningful to you.
My family already pays tuition. Why is a gift to The Discovery Fund needed as well?
Tuition supports our strong academic program and core extracurriculars. The Discovery Fund goes further, enriching the student experience with exceptional opportunities that set us apart. Your tax-deductible gift helps ensure that Discovery remains a place where students thrive
What does my gift to the Discovery Fund do?
Every dollar contributed to The Discovery Fund is used to provide for the outstanding faculty, programs, and facilities that directly benefit your child every day.
Specifically, gifts to The Discovery Fund :
Purchase state-of-the-art technology and new curriculum materials for use in our classrooms. Supply resources and equipment that enhance our high-quality academics, arts, and athletic programs
Provide additional professional development opportunities for faculty and staff to gain knowledge and skills in their area of expertise
Support experiential education, STEM opportunities, wellness opportunities, outside speakers, and more
Why is my partcipation so important?
Not only does participation signify a high level of community commitment to the school’s mission, but it also strengthens our case when seeking support from foundations and corporations.
How much of a difference does my gift really make?
The Discovery School has fewer supporters than a larger university or charity, yet our needs are just as significant. That’s why we encourage every member of the Discovery community, including our Board of Trustees, parents, faculty and staff, alumni, grandparents, and special friends, to consider making an annual gift at any level they can.
The purpose of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is to enhance and support the educational experience at Discovery, to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging parental involvement, and to improve the environment at Discovery through volunteer and financial support.
All family members of current Discovery students are members of the Parent Teacher Organization.
The PTO welcomes you to join our meetings to contribute your ideas to better our school. Meetings are usually held every other month. All meeting dates will be posted on the school calendar and communicated through the Discovery Update and our private Facebook Group, The Discovery School Community.
During the course of the school year, the PTO holds several ‘informal’ events for parents and children. These events are not school-sponsored and are usually held offcampus. Events will be posted on the school calendar and promoted through the Discovery Update and social media pages
