Editor's LETTER

IS IT JUST ME or have the past 12 months flown by?

As the year comes to a close, now is the perfect time to thank everyone who has contributed to the magazine throughout the year … we really do appreciate your input and support.

As always, this final edition for 2025 includes the annual Celebrating Success feature showcase.

Highlighting a range of companies and individuals who are achieving great things at home and on the world stage, the common thread in these stories is passion, innovation and a commitment to giving back to the wider community.

Speaking of commitment … our cover image captures champion swimmer and Olympic hopeful Lachlan Walker at his home pool at The Southport School.

Lachlan is also the subject of our Sport Report, a poignant read that unveils the highs and lows of being an elite athlete.

Imagine how you would feel if your whole career came down to millimetres and milliseconds.

With the holiday season rapidly approaching it seems only fitting that our travel section is brimming with great articles.

This includes an account of my inspiring visit to Istanbul earlier this year and Angela’s relaxing staycation at the stunning new Mondrian Gold Coast.

Elsewhere in the magazine, Marj takes a trip to the Margaret River wine region and checks out the best private dining rooms on the Coast, while Chris test-drives the new Leapmotor C10.

We also have a host of summer entertainment ideas and preview all the festive activities taking place at Sanctuary Cove this December.

And, if you would like to receive the gifts instead of giving them, be sure to enter our newest competition with one lucky reader set to win a $2,000 shopping experience at Provincial Home Living.

Finally, on behalf of the Cove team, I would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year … see you in 2026.

Alma MATER

Julia Roberts stars in After The Hunt, a controversial new film which premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival.

WORDS PETE CARROLL / THE INTERVIEW PEOPLE

THERE’S ALREADY AN OSCAR BUZZ surrounding Julia Roberts’ latest performance in After The Hunt

Sparking some controversy when it premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, the movie follows a student at Yale University who accuses a college professor of rape.

Roberts plays college professor Alma, who is caught between the star pupil named Maggie [Ayo Edebiri], and one of her fellow teachers and friends, Hank [Andrew Garfield].

Directed by Luca Guadagnino, with the script written by actress Nora Garrett, the movie also stars Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny.

Neither the student’s nor the teacher’s version of events is presented as entirely credible, casting doubt on both sides.

What attracted you to playing this troubled woman?

I mean, trouble is where the juicy stuff is right?

That great complexity that Nora wrote for all the characters really is, I think, what assembled this kind of a group.

Because it’s like dominoes of conflict – once one falls, then suddenly, everywhere you turn, there’s some new piece of conflict and challenge.

And that’s what makes it worth getting up and going to work in the morning.

After The Hunt is obviously made in a way where it’s going to provoke the audience to ask questions for themselves on many issues. What kind of discussions did you have while making this film?

How the f--k did we end up here? [laughs]

You know, I’m kidding.

I am a natural inquisitor, and I think for Alma, the idea of someone who’s so smart and so capable, why has she made the choices to end up sort of trapped in the way that she’s trapped?

That was so interesting to me to chip away at, to literally chip away at this kind of masonry that she has designed really beautifully and intricately for herself.

And also just the idea of ambition, and the ambition that every character in this movie has and different motivations and different desires that they have.

It’s not something that I’m comfortable with … so that’s super interesting.

And the way Luca sees these characters and his point of view of the world.

I’ve never seen anyone more interested in humanity than Luca … and he sees such tender little spots that I just would never have noticed necessarily on my own.

It was really quite a unique experience. It’s so magical, and honestly, so fun.

We had so much fun making this film.

It was really odd to be cool and cold and enjoy myself. >>

Shoppe

Since this movie reflects a certain heightened sensitivity towards women’s rights and the violation of women’s rights, how do you, as a mother, convey that to your children?

I think, like any value a person holds sacred, you teach it by being it.

And standing up for yourself and what you believe and building a life that has a very deep, specific moral compass.

I think, not just with my daughter, but with my sons as well, my husband and I try to reflect our values in everything we do and in the work that we do and in the company that we keep and the way that we move through the world.

The greatest thing that we can teach our children is who we truly are as their parents and not how to be a mystery for them.

My mother always seemed so mysterious to me at a certain point in my life and I just remember asking her one day, ‘Wow, how did you do this? And how did you manage to do that?’

And she was like, ‘Oh, darling, sit down’.

She just like unpacked everything for me in this really sweet, beautiful way that gave me so much comfort and just expanded my love for her in this incredible way.

I’m so grateful that I had those conversations with her because there was a time that she just seemed like a superhero.

And then there was a time she just seemed very mysterious and I thought, ‘How did that shift?’

I think she was just very busy raising kids on her own and working a full-time job.

Have you ever felt like a superhero yourself in that regard?

No, but at times I do kind of go, ‘Wow, that was a very well-executed day’. [laughs]

What’s happening on a well-executed day?

I think it's just a good combination of work accomplishments and home accomplishments and dinner ready when I want it to be ready and not an hour later. [laughs]

You know, like a tidy house is a tidy mind, right?

So I just feel like when I kind of have all those things under control, it makes for a nice night’s rest.

Since this film, in some ways, takes place on the backdrop of the #MeToo Movement, when was the first time you became aware of this movement?

I was actually doing a press junket for Wonder, the first time somebody used that phrase, asked me a question about it.

And, interestingly enough, he was, not long after that, released from his duties. Irony.

To what extent has the industry changed for the better?

To what extent? I don’t know how to measure that from where I sit in the world.

Maybe because the roles you are getting now is possibly a result of that?

How so?

For example, now we have to have that mindset, so maybe the roles for women have to be more complex, and they cannot be just victims anymore, in a way we tolerated before?

Well, I see that more as a bonus of ageing, that you get to play more complex things, because you have a greater life of resource to excavate from.

Can you talk a bit more about the process of chipping away at the character because she’s so complicated to understand. Did you talk a lot with Luca or did you find her yourself?

I did not do this by myself.

It was definitely in concert with Luca, constant concert I would say.

Also, I think I found more inroads into Alma looking at the characters around her.

You know, examining Frederick and Michael Stuhlbarg, just don’t even get me started on that guy [laughs].

That just tells you so much about her, that relationship and that man and the way that he moves through the story and the way that Michael portrayed him.

I would say there were definitely two times where I was caught watching Michael Stuhlbarg perform and I would think, ‘Oh, this is not a movie. I have a line’. [laughs]

So I think that I owe everybody – those relationships helped me put a lot of pieces together as I was finding what I was going to do. >>

OnceWas
Alémais

Luca has said filmmaking is about telling the truth – what helps you to be truthful as an actor and as a human being?

What helps? Breathing.

And I just don’t think. … it’s just not my impulse … to be deceptive.

I’m a very plain speaker and not everybody likes that you know, which is part of being in the world.

But I would rather be that than be deceptive or be an illusion of a person that I wasn’t really.

Some people have said that this movie undermines the feminist struggle? What are your thoughts on that?

I realise we’re here on a clock, but when you say undermines the feminist movement, can you give me just a little morsel in what way do you see that?

Because it revives the old argument of the fight between women. So it is like it casts a shadow on the accusations of women and the old narrative of the abused?

Well, I think, not to be disagreeable, because it’s not in my nature, but I would say the thing that you just said that I love is that it revives old arguments.

And I don’t necessarily think it’s reviving just an argument of women sort of being pitted against each other or not supporting each other.

There’s a lot of old arguments that get rejuvenated in this movie in a way that does create conversation.

The best part of your question is you talking about how you all came out of the theatre talking about it.

And that’s how we wanted it to feel, that everybody comes out with all these different feelings and emotions and points of views and things that you realise what you believe in strongly and what your convictions are, because we stir it all up for you.

So you’re welcome [laughs].

This film faces complex dynamics, which are very topical and important – gender, privilege, society and so on. Do you think that that will lead to controversy? Do you think the film will be accused of being a politically incorrect film?

I love the softball questions early in the morning [laughs].

I don’t ... to me, it’s almost like I remember the first time I saw the film Tender Mercies, and I just thought there was something magical about the idea that a camera kind of landed in a place and happened to document what was going on where it landed.

And that’s how I feel about this movie, is that we’re not making statements, we are portraying

these people in this moment in time, and the camera has fallen from the sky in this particular moment and captures all this, and that’s what I think is sort of incredible about it.

You know, the insights that you get to see into this marriage, which not to take away from anybody else, was just some of the most fun excavation.

I felt like to be with Michael was not only an actor dream come true, but their relationship is so complicated, and I thought so many people won’t understand what this love is about, and so many people will.

So in that regard, I don’t know about controversy per se, but we are challenging

people to have conversation and to be excited by that, or to be infuriated by that.

It’s up to you, and if you drink martinis or lemonade after the movie, that’s kind of how I saw it.

It’s not so much that we’re making a statement; we’re just sharing these lives for this moment and then want everyone to go away and talk to each other.

That to me is the most exciting bit because we’re kind of losing the art of conversation in humanity right now.

If making this movie does anything, getting everybody to talk to each other is the most exciting thing that I feel we could accomplish.

AFTER 25 YEARS AT MARINA MIRAGE, international award-winning jewellers Calleija have embarked on an exciting new chapter, relocating their flagship boutique to Pacific Fair.

Renowned worldwide for bespoke jewellery and exceptional craftsmanship, Calleija has long been synonymous with rare treasures and personalised service, a reputation carefully cultivated over four decades.

A new CHAPTER

Gold Coast’s iconic Calleija Jewellers opens at Pacific Fair.

The event featured a captivating performance by award-winning musician Meg Washington, alongside Channel 7’s Kylie Gillies, who MC’d the occasion.

Guests enjoyed caviar bites, decadent canapés, and a signature cocktail served with flowing Perrier-Jouët Rosé Champagne, before witnessing the theatrical unveiling of the boutique with a dramatic curtain drop.

What Makes Calleija Different

As a true design house, Calleija combines award-winning artistry with exceptional craftsmanship, creating pieces as distinctive as the individuals who wear them.

Each piece is designed by Calleija and crafted in-house by their Master Jewellers.

“This new boutique represents the next step in our journey, providing a welcoming space that reflects the sophistication and elegance of our pieces, while remaining inviting and accessible to our valued clients,” says John Calleija, founder and creative force behind the brand.

Calleija’s evolution from a single Gold Coast boutique to an international name with a presence in Sydney and London reflects both the growing demand for its bespoke and intricately crafted jewellery and the company’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

“This growth is a testament to the global recognition of our rare and beautifully crafted pieces,” John explains.

Grand Opening Celebration

To mark this milestone, Calleija celebrated the grand opening of its new Pacific Fair boutique in September, welcoming 200 guests to an unforgettable evening.

Designed for Timeless Elegance

The new Pacific Fair boutique is a masterclass in understated luxury, created in collaboration with architect Tim Woodfield.

“A great design starts with a client with vision,” Tim says.

“The boutique’s design is a direct response to the ideas and inspirations shared by John, Noni, and the Calleija team.

“Words like elegant, minimal, crafted, timeless, calm, comfortable, and enduring set the tone for every aspect of the space.”

Inside, the boutique is carefully curated to enhance depth and openness, allowing clients to explore the collection in comfort.

Functional areas are discreetly integrated, maintaining a sense of calm and focus, while every design decision prioritises the client experience, inviting guests to engage with the jewellery in a thoughtful and intimate way.

Calleija has long been celebrated for its artistry and exquisite creations, including rare Argyle Pink Diamonds™.

As one of only two Argyle Pink Diamonds Icon Partners™ globally, Calleija is entrusted with creating exquisite works that honour the extraordinary heritage of these precious diamonds.

With the closure of the Argyle Diamond Mine in 2020, Argyle Pink Diamonds™ have become rarer than ever before.

To wear an Argyle Pink Diamond™, a gem with a 1.6 billion-year history, is a privilege of a lifetime.

“Every piece we create carries its own journey,” John explains.

“Our new boutique allows clients to engage with that journey in an environment that is as thoughtful and enduring as the jewellery itself.”

Glacier® Diamond –Exclusive to Calleija

Among the brand's highlights is the Glacier® Diamond, a creation exclusive to Calleija.

Inspired by the romance of the cushion cut, the Glacier® Diamond is celebrated for its sculpted elegance and feminine grace.

Available only at Calleija, each diamond is individually numbered and perfected to achieve unparalleled brilliance, embodying love, beauty, and life’s most cherished moments.

A true masterpiece of contemporary design, the Glacier® Diamond represents the pinnacle of John Calleija’s dedication to perfection and artistry – an achievement that will be cherished for generations to come.

Bespoke Creations

Creating bespoke jewellery is a deeply personal journey, one that evolves with each individual.

“The true beauty of jewellery lies in the stories it tells,” John explains.

“When a client shares their vision, it becomes a personal journey – one where their ideas are shaped into timeless treasures that reflect who they are.

“It is my greatest pleasure to bring their imagination to life.”

Some clients provide cherished heirlooms, like a great-grandmother’s engagement ring, to be redesigned, while others seek to express their unique personality through jewellery, turning their dream into a meaningful creation.

By guiding clients through every step of the design process, Calleija ensures their vision is brought to life with care and expertise.

The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects their personal style and story.

“It’s a privilege to be part of this creative journey and to see the joy these personalised pieces bring,” says John.

Time TO GIVE

More prevention. More research. More support. Because of you.

CLARE LEHMANN DESCRIBES her dad as a funny, outdoorsy man who loved life.

She said he was the kind of person who lit up a room.

He loved fishing and spent hours in his shed surrounded by projects.

Everyone in the family has one of his rods, each chosen in colours that suited them.

“I used to get little dome tents and fishing lures for Christmas,” she said.

“I would shake them under the tree and be like, ‘Oh, I just wanted a Barbie,’ but now they are the things I love.”

However, last year, bowel cancer took him from his family, and the hardest part is that it didn’t have to happen.

Every two years, Australians between the ages of 50 and 74 receive a free at-home bowel screening kit (and Australian’s aged 45 - 49 can now request a free kit too)1

But too many leave it unopened.

That means thousands of lives are being lost that could have been saved.

“He got the kit, and it sat on the shelf for a while, and then when he finally did it, it was too late," said his wife Janet.

“He beat himself up almost every day over that.”

It’s a story Cancer Council Queensland researchers hear too often, and one that shows how powerful early detection can be.

Acting early changes everything

Even though so many Australians are sent a free at-home bowel screening kit, only 42 per cent return it 2

For the thousands who set the test aside, whether that’s because of reasons like embarrassment, busyness or procrastination, the consequences can be devastating.

Professor Louisa Collins is one of many Cancer Council Queensland researchers working to change that.

“When bowel cancer is found early, it’s almost always treatable,” she explains.

“Our challenge is to make it easier for people to act, and to remove the small barriers that stop them doing something that could save their life.”

If found early, 90 per cent of bowel cancer cases can be treated, however, that decreases to less than 15 per cent if found in stage 43

Small changes. Big impact.

Louisa’s team is exploring ways to help people complete the test, including clearer, simplified instructions on mailed invitations to gentle behavioural prompts, like reminders to keep the kit in sight or short how-to videos that show each step, and redesigned reminders timed to arrive when people are most likely to use them.

“These aren’t costly overhauls ... they are smart, evidence-based tweaks that add up," Louisa says.

“Even small shifts in behaviour can prevent thousands of deaths.”

Modelling shows that lifting bowel screening participation from 40 to 60 per cent could save more than 80,000 lives in the next 20 years 4

This holiday season, you can make more prevention, more research and more support possible ... if you give, fewer families will face the heartbreak that Janet and Clare live with every day.

Your gift could mean that someone newly diagnosed finally understands their next step.

You could help a carer sleep easier tonight, or a clinician use the latest evidence to save a life.

You could even assist in preventing cancer before it starts.

Each of those moments is linked back to you and although you may never meet the people you help, they will feel it.

Love & BELIEF

For Olympic hopeful Lachlan Walker the difference between glory and gone comes down to millimetres … and milliseconds.

WORDS BRETT CLEMENTS

THE SWIMMER IS A SOLITARY PREDATOR. A lonely animal.

Viciously determined.

Some may say ‘possessed’ by watery demons. Men, wolves, sharks … even killer whales hunt in packs.

These kids go it alone.

What makes them tick?

What makes them want to be Olympic swimmers?

This is a story about love and belief – two of the most powerful human emotions.

Lachlan Walker is a 22-year-old elite Australian swimmer ... 400 freestyle.

Swims 80k a week. Tens of hours more in the gym.

Studies social media and AI at Griffith uni.

Works as a lifeguard at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

His lifelong dream has been to swim for his country.

He doesn’t do it for the money.

Couch surfers make more on JobKeeper than our government pays its swimmers to win an Olympic gold – a paltry 20 grand. Singapore pays a million.

In Kazakhstan, wherever that is, a gold medalist gets $350,000.

He doesn’t do it for the fame.

You wouldn’t recognise the Dolphins if they weren’t wearing green and gold standing on podiums clutching stuffed marsupials.

Walker does it to give you something to bounce up and down on the couch once every four years when we stick it to the Yanks in the pool.

The Dolphins is one of the toughest teams in the world to make, in a brutal sport where Social Darwinism rules, in an environment eight hundred times denser than air.

Competition replaces compassion as the engine of human progress.

At the Trials for Paris, Walker’s the fourth fastest swimmer.

4th doesn’t make the team.

4th doesn’t go to the Olympics.

4th is forgotten.

Making the Dolphins is Walker’s obsession.

He wants it so bad, it makes him physically sick.

Elite swimmers live on an acidic cocktail of bile, vomit, and chlorine – the taste of effort at the edge of human performance.

Lactic acid floods the bloodstream faster than it can clear.

Blood pH drops.

The stomach shuts down to feed the muscles.

The brain reads the chaos as poison and triggers the gag reflex.

It’s a survival response – the body saying stop.

But kids like Walker don’t stop.

His prefrontal cortex – the part that calculates risk – gets overruled by the limbic system and motor cortex.

Dopamine fires not from winning, but from progress –from watching the number on the stopwatch fall.

Over time, his brain learns pain equals reward.

The line between punishment and satisfaction blurs.

He’ll leave the pool to throw up.

It isn’t madness.

It’s conditioning – the same neural loop that drives addiction.

The ONLY thing Walker thinks about when he’s racing can be the race.

Not the rent. Not a breakup. Not a single random thought about anything.

If his focus breaks for even a fraction of a second, he’s gone.

A life’s dream blown by a random, fleeting thought.

Gone in a thousandth of a second,

The human brain has about 86 billion neurons firing hundreds of trillions of signals every second – to breathe, walk, run, swim.

Electrical impulses travel at 100 metres per second. >>

A signal can race from spinal cord to foot –about a metre – in one-hundredth of a second.

That’s brain telling foot: kick.

A 400 freestyle lasts about three minutes thirty.

Around 450 strokes.

Each stroke fires thousands of motorneurons.

Across the race: 5 to 50 million electrical commands – every one driving the body to keep going.

In four hundred metres, he sends more signals than there are people in Australia

Every neuron – 86 billion of them – locked on one command: go.

The instant he thinks about anything else –the crowd, the pain, his mum, a lost love – the rhythm breaks.

That’s the difference between glory and gone.

It’s June 2025, and Lachlan Walker has to get to Adelaide – the trials for the World Aquatic Championships.

Jae Lee from Citizen is watching to see if the kid’s worth sponsoring.

Swimming costs money.

Walker doesn’t have any.

After he’s scrimped his way to Adelaide, he ends up eating instant coffee.

Caffeine is one of the few legal, proven performance enhancers.

It also fires him up.

He still doesn’t know how he’ll make rent.

A mate lends him two grand on the ‘nevernever’, but he’s sick with worry.

Spends a day with his head in the toilet, retching. Doesn’t swim.

Doesn’t make the team.

Left alone to train in the rain at TSS while his mates jet off to Singapore.

Up until now, he’s main sponsors have been the Bank of Mum and Dad and his granny, Ginny.

A country kid from Alstonville in northern NSW who trained under the legendary Michael Bohl at Southport Aquatic before the super coach went to China.

Bohl remembers his ‘…steely determination, clear vision and exemplary drive to succeed’.

His love. His belief.

The Samurai code – Bushidō – demanded honour through sacrifice.

At its extreme, seppuku – death to restore integrity.

It wasn’t about dying.

It was about control.

Modern swimmers live their own version: repetition, pain, obedience to a clock that never forgives.

Where Bushidō demanded a perfect death, this demands a perfect race.

Both ask the same thing – everything.

Citizen sponsors Walker now.

Not for results.

But for love. And belief.

Milestone MOMENTS

2025 has been a standout year for many Gold Coast businesses.

SUCCESS /SƏKˈSƐS/ NOUN – the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.

As 2025 draws to a close, now is the perfect time to reflect on the past twelve months and celebrate the many milestones and accomplishments of our local stakeholders.

Across the following pages you will read about captains of industry, community minded individuals and Gold Coasters excelling on the world stage.

Whether highlighting a proud achievement; embracing charitable endeavours or recognising an outstanding employee or team, these stories will inspire your imagination and ignite your passion to succeed.

Each and every one of these individuals and businesses have contributed not only to their own success but also to the wider community.

As the Gold Coast continues to thrive, the opportunities in business and on a personal level will also grow exponentially.

And with the increasing global interest in the region in the lead up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and beyond – the future looks positive for one of Australia’s fastest growing cities.

Marina Point – a community in the making. New BENCHMARKS

AS 2025 DRAWS TO A CLOSE, Marina Point stands as one of the most significant success stories on the Northern Gold Coast.

More than just another waterfront project, the development has redefined apartment living by combining rare scale, uncompromising design, and a lifestyle anchored in community and connection to the water.

The year has been marked by milestones that cement Marina Point’s reputation as a project of distinction.

Building 1 has achieved major construction progress and remains firmly on track for completion in March 2026.

This visible progress has provided buyers with confidence and certainty, reinforcing the developer’s commitment to deliver on time and to the highest standards.

Setting a new benchmark for projects under construction, Marina Point has opened two fully furnished display units within Building 1, offering an exclusive opportunity to step inside completed residences and experience the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define the development.

Equally remarkable has been the market response.

Residences in Building 1 were met with outstanding demand, with many sales coming directly through word of mouth, a testament to the project’s quality and the reputation of the Sheida Group.

In 2025, Marina Point also achieved a record-breaking $7.7 million sale of a 553 sqm amalgamated penthouse, setting a bespoke new benchmark for luxury apartment living on the Northern Gold Coast.

Momentum has continued strongly with Building 2.

Construction commenced mid-year and has already achieved exceptional sales success.

Buyers have been quick to secure these large-scale residences, which range from 139 sqm apartments through to expansive, house-sized penthouses.

Demand has been exceptional, reflecting both confidence in the project and the rarity of owning a home of this calibre in Hope Island.

Behind this success is a unique builder–developer model.

The Sheida Group has assembled an in-house building team supported by project managers with tier-one experience.

This direct collaboration with experienced architects, designers and the development team ensures a seamless process, delivering efficiency, attention to detail and finishes of the highest standard.

Yet Marina Point is not defined by construction milestones alone.

Events throughout the year have brought future residents together, fostering connections that will carry into their new lives at Hope Island.

From sunset gatherings to design workshops, these moments embody the Marina Point lifestyle: elegant, connected, and enriching.

As we reflect on 2025, Marina Point has set a new standard in waterfront living.

With Building 2 sales and construction driving strong momentum, and Building 1 nearing completion, 2026 promises to be even more exciting as the vision becomes reality and the first residents move in. marinapointapartments.com.au

Local FOCUS

Behlau Murakami Grant take great pride in giving back to the community.

WHILE SOUTHPORT-BASED law firm Behlau Murakami Grant have a national reputation as serious problem solvers, what is not so well known is the amount of charity work the firm puts back into the community.

Partners Ron Behlau, Jason Murakami and Shane Grant all share a cultural ethos to give their free time to the community that they were all born and bred in, educated in and operate their successful law practice in.

As part of their charity work, the firm provide an endowment for The Behlau Murakami Grant Portraiture Prize in partnership with Griffith University Queensland College of Art.

Partner in charge of the art prize, Ron Behlau said the initiative provides Queensland's leading young artists an opportunity to showcase their talent, while also experiencing the cut and thrust of the art world.

“This is the richest student art prize in the state and we are proud of the work we have done to assist young artists in launching their respective careers," said Mr Behlau.

Partner Shane Grant, who is one of Queensland's leading corporate governance and compliance lawyers, has had a long history of providing free assistance to organisations in the domestic violence support space.

"These organisations don't have the budget for expensive lawyers so their governance and compliance duties often suffer," said Mr Grant, who in 2023 was the recipient of the Commonwealth's National Medal recognising 25 years of community service in organisations that protect life and property.

"We offer free assistance to ensure everything is in order from a governance and compliance perspective so that such organisations can focus on their primary business of providing critical front-line assistance to potential victims of domestic violence."

The diversity of Behlau Murakami Grant's charity work is highlighted by Mr Murakami's appointment as Honorary General Counsel for Surfers Paradise-based Giving Back Qld, which focuses on troubled young men.

Operating under the simple mantra ‘We lead, they grow’, Giving Back Qld was founded by Mark and Hayley Mathie from Wickedbodz Fitness Centre and boasts IBF World Cruiser-Weight boxing champion Jai Opetaia as its Charity Ambassador.

"Behlau Murakami Grant’s guidance and energy has been one of the driving forces behind Giving Back QLD," said Mr Mathie who is also Jai Opetaia's trainer.

"We accept that we can’t ‘fix’ them all – but if we can help even one these young men avoid destroying their life, then we’ve won.”

A finalist in this year's Queensland Law Society's Excellence in Law Awards, Mr Murakami created the Griffith University Innocence Project and has provided more than 20 years of pro bono work since its inception.

He has also been a regular face in many of the Gold Coast's boxing gyms for over two decades.

"With the assistance of people like Jason we can help plant seeds of responsibility, empathy, and better choices,” Mr Mathie said.

“With support, consistency, and effort, we can truly change lives."

ArtistryAND INNOVATION

Celebrating a remarkable year at Finelines Jewellers.

FINELINES JEWELLERS are taking a moment to reflect on a truly extraordinary 12 months.

From national recognition to nurturing the next generation of artisans, this year has been one of growth, creativity, and deep gratitude for the clients and community who inspire everything they do.

Award-Winning Excellence

One of the highlights of 2025 was being awarded Australian Jeweller of the Year at the JAA Australasian Jewellery Design Awards – a milestone that still feels surreal.

The prestigious industry award recognises outstanding craftsmanship, originality, and innovation within the industry, and the team are deeply honoured to be acknowledged among Australia’s best.

The winning design was a testament to what Finelines stands for: thought provoking timeless beauty, technical precision, and a deep respect for the art of jewellery-making.

Every piece they create tells a story – crafted by hand, guided by passion and made to be cherished for generations.

Investing in the Future

Beyond the sparkle of the awards, what has truly defined this year is the continued commitment to educating and supporting the next generation of jewellers.

At Finelines, the team believe that the future of fine jewellery lies in the hands of emerging craftspeople who combine traditional skills with fresh imagination.

Through their in-house training and mentorship programs, they’ve welcomed apprentices and students eager to learn the intricate techniques of design, stone setting, and metalwork.

Watching their confidence and creativity flourish has always been one of Finelines proudest achievements.

Passing down knowledge isn’t just about preserving craft – it’s about evolving it, ensuring that Australia continues to shine on the world stage of jewellery design.

Craft, Community, and Connection

This year also reminded everyone at Finelines how powerful connection can be.

From bespoke engagement rings to sentimental redesigns, they’ve been privileged to play a small part in some of life’s most meaningful moments.

Each client who walks through the doors brings a story, and Finelines’ mission has always been to translate that story into something precious and lasting.

The team are equally proud of their growing community – clients who have become friends, and collaborators who share a common vision for authentic craftsmanship.

Looking Ahead

Looking to the year ahead, the goal remains simple: to continue designing with heart, mentoring with purpose, and crafting with integrity.

With new projects already in motion and more opportunities to inspire and be inspired, the team can’t wait to see what’s next.

Creating WELLNESS

City Cave is committed to helping clients restore, recharge, and reconnect.

SINCE LAUNCHING IN AUGUST 2016 in Brisbane, City Cave has grown from a single wellness centre into a thriving international brand with 73 locations across Australia and four in the USA.

At the heart of this growth are the brand's founders Tim Butters and Jeremy Hassell, who recently made the move back to Hope Island with their families.

While they split their time between working from home and their West End office, the decision to return reflects their desire to raise their families in a community they love, without stepping back from the hands-on leadership that drives City Cave’s success.

City Cave was created with a bold vision: to give life back to humanity.

The brand’s signature offerings, floatation therapy, infrared saunas, and massage, are at the core of its approach to modern wellness, helping clients restore, recharge, and reconnect in a fast-paced world.

From new wellness centres opening across the globe to developing innovative experiences for members, Tim and Jeremy remain deeply involved in all aspects of the business.

Supporting them is a talented team based in the West End office and a network of amazing franchise owners that work so hard on their

mission to create nurturing environments that are accessible to everyone, ensuring that both day-to-day operations and long-term growth strategies run smoothly.

Together, the founders, their team and the franchise owners maintain City Cave’s commitment to excellence, creating wellness spaces where every detail, from service quality to customer experience, is carefully considered.

Returning to Hope Island isn’t just a personal choice; it’s a statement about the kind of life Tim and Jeremy want to lead while continuing to grow an international brand.

Their presence in the community brings a sense of connection to City Cave’s journey, showing that even a rapidly expanding company can remain rooted in the values of family, wellbeing, and hands-on leadership.

As City Cave continues to expand, the blend of local engagement and international ambition demonstrates that wellness can be both accessible and transformative.

For the residents of Hope Island and beyond, it’s inspiring to see two founders actively shaping a business that’s not only creating incredible experiences but also giving life back to humanity, one float, sauna, and massage at a time.

Bronze ON CHEVRON

Gardner Vaughan Group brings its award-winning vision to the Gold Coast.

FOR MORE THAN THREE DECADES, Gardner Vaughan Group (GVG) has been shaping skylines and communities across South East Queensland.

With a reputation built on integrity, craftsmanship, and consistency, the Brisbanebased developer has become synonymous with community-centric residential projects that stand the test of time.

Now, GVG is bringing that legacy to the Gold Coast with Bronze on Chevron, an exclusive new address set to launch in early 2026 on Chevron Island.

Tucked between the exciting energy of Surfers Paradise and the calm waters of the Nerang River, Bronze on Chevron captures the essence of modern island living.

Located at 8 Mawarra Street, the development presents a limited collection of one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom residences, each designed to balance urban sophistication with the tranquillity of a private retreat.

With timeless architecture, elegant interiors, and panoramic views, Bronze on Chevron has been designed to contribute thoughtfully to the Gold Coast’s growing collection of premium apartments.

“After years of studying the Gold Coast market, we knew Chevron Island was the right place to make our debut,” said GVG CEO Simon Betteridge.

“Bronze on Chevron embodies our philosophy of creating enduring, location-led residences that feel both elevated and deeply livable.”

While Bronze on Chevron marks GVG’s first Gold Coast venture, the group is far from new to residential development.

Over the past 35 years, GVG has evolved into one of South East Queensland’s most active apartment developers, embarking on projects in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay, with a 100 per cent delivery record.

The company’s vertically integrated model, which brings design and construction under one roof, ensures that every detail meets its exacting standards.

This hands-on approach not only guarantees build quality but also allows GVG to respond quickly to market needs and resident expectations.

For Gardner Vaughan Group, Bronze on Chevron is more than an expansion – it embodies the belief that thoughtful design and exceptional locations create homes of enduring value.

“Every GVG project begins with a question: how can we add value, not just to the building, but to the neighbourhood and the people who will call it home?” said Commercial Director Sam Gardner.

“That philosophy is at the heart of Bronze on Chevron. It is designed for those who appreciate connection and calm, right in the centre of the Gold Coast.”

Set to commence construction in 2026, the project will deliver 119 premium residences to Chevron Island, capturing the essence of GVG’s 36-year journey in creating spaces that celebrate lifestyle and place. gardnervaughangroup.com.au

Private PARTIES

With around 40 private dining rooms on the Gold Coast, all you need to do is choose one that suits your occasion, hand the event over to the experts, and enjoy yourself.

WORDS & PHOTOGRAPHY MARJ OSBORNE

CELEBRATING OVER food is one of life’s highlights.

Whether it is an engagement, baby shower, big birthday or business meeting, hosting an event in one of the Gold Coast’s private dining rooms allows you to enjoy the occasion while mingling with your guests and letting professionals take care of the food, drinks and entertainment.

When choosing the venue, it’s worth considering some of the following factors: the tone and theme of the event and any special requirements, the cuisine and the way it will be served, the size of the group, your budget, and the location.

Fortunately, there are private dining rooms across the Coast catering for everything from a relaxed morning tea to a high-end function.

What each one will give you is the chance to hold the event of your choice in a space that is solely for your use.

For casual occasions, several venues offer ‘The Ultimate High Tea or Brunch’, along with Instagrammable photo opportunities in their creekside, riverfront or bush surroundings.

Tarte Beach House in Currumbin is one of our favourite places.

Nestled beside Currumbin Creek, its intimate event space, The Hideout, offers privacy for groups of 12 to 36 to dine over a stylish brunch, an indulgent lunch or a pastry-laden high tea.

This relaxed setting brings coastal vibes to informal celebrations such as birthdays, Mother’s Day and baby or bridal showers.

Bumbles Café shares the theme of water views from its quiet spot beside the Nerang River at Budd’s Beach.

Bumbles is home to a selection of interconnecting event spaces including The Library, a private book-lined vintage room used for high teas and lunches, and The Blue House,

an adjoining cottage which serves a French bistro menu for up to 50 guests.

According to the Bumbles’ website, the venue’s location and flexible spaces mean that it is suitable for ‘wedding ceremonies and receptions, film and television wrap parties, every type of celebration you can imagine, farewells and wakes, small conferences, launch events, club and corporate team annual dinners’.

For a taste of vintage glamour and luxury, Brooklyn Wine & Tapas has a private library space available for functions, seating up to 26 people.

Bon Appetea, housed in an old Queenslander in Mudgeeraba, also provides a charming space for a high tea in its private dining room.

There’s more than a touch of nostalgia here, with all elements made in house and served on vintage English crockery.

Some events call for a more extensive menu than is available in a café.

Private dining rooms in restaurants are a great way to enjoy the venue’s cuisine within an exclusive space.

For example, the Gold Coast offers a wide range of exclusive Asian (and Asian inspired) spaces across the region.

These range from the traditional omakasestyle Japanese restaurants such as One Eighty in Labrador which seats 22 people in total (with eight in a separate area) and Chevron Island’s exclusive 8-seat Black Door to the Cantonese Jasmine Room in Southport (with a private space for 16), or Robina’s Korean barbecue Hwaro92 (a 12-seat private space perfect for bonding over a charcoal-fuelled meal).

Alternatively, you can banquet at one of the three elevated Asian-inspired dining rooms at the atmospheric Madame V in Palm Beach or host up to 14 people in private at Modern Asian Maggie Choo, Broadbeach.

Some hotels offer luxurious private dining rooms including QT Gold Coast’s semi-private Kampai Room, a private dining space adjoining

JW Marriott’s Misono and exclusive VIP areas in Akoya and T’Ang Court at The Langham.

There are also three sophisticated dining rooms in The Star Gold Coast’s Uncle Su (seating 36), and the pinnacle Japanese dining experience for 16 people behind closed wooden doors in Kiyomi.

Italian food is a perennial favourite, so it’s ideal to share with friends in a private dining space.

Located upstairs overlooking the main restaurant, Balboa Italian’s semi-private dining room provides an intimate setting for up to 12 guests, with the option to dine on handmade pizza and pasta either a la carte or banquet style.

George’s on Sorrento offers a separate room that would suit celebrations such as a big birthday, engagement, small wedding or a business dinner for up to 60 guests.

On the southern end of the coast, Cadillac Supper Club in Palm Beach boasts a private wood-panelled dining area for up to 10 people.

With a theme of Italo-Americani pizzeria and bar, there’s an edge of retro-vintage to this relaxed venue that belies the skill in producing its delicious food and cocktails.

The Star Gold Coast’s Cucina Vivo lights their woodfired oven for up to 20 guests in their private dining room, while the Imperial Lounge on the top floor of TRYP Southport serves up Italian food to 50 people while enjoying spectacular views through floor to ceiling glass across the Gold Coast.

In fact, the coastline and skyline are a standout feature in many venues.

Located in Surfers Paradise, the private dining room at Coast Beach Bar & Kitchen offers breathtaking ocean views.

Seating 12 at a sandstone table on velvet chairs, complete with soundproofing and climate control, the room is designed for ultimate comfort and exclusivity.

Seamless service from your own waiter is part of the package.

Hanks at Kirra is the latest view-boasting private space to add to your list.

Seating up to 24 guests, Hanks’ Mediterranean menu serves up antipasti, handmade pasta and fresh seafood, all made to share as you take in the seaside vistas.

Both Kirra Beach House and Siblings see the Gold Coast’s skyline from a southern perspective, their decks overlooking the expansive panorama, while Pipi’s 220-degree-view dining room is high enough on Point Lookout to see whales during the migration season..

The elegant Glass Dining & Lounge Bar dining room for 10 fronts the Broadwater, or you can have drinks on the balcony at Nineteen at the Star before ascending the stairs to the enclosed upper-level dining room for an elegant meal in complete privacy.

Edgewater Dining boasts one of the best views of Surfers Paradise across water, enjoyed from the room’s private balcony especially when sunset hues are reflected in the sky and evening lights illuminate the skyline.

To make a celebration statement, the esteemed Little Truffle is the epitome of luxe dining in opulent surroundings.

From velvet curtains to chandeliers, and truffles to souffle, the highly respected staff of Little Truffle will ensure that your dinner in one of their two elegant spaces will deliver a memorable experience.

Several Broadbeach venues contain private dining rooms that are close to both The Star and the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre and are easily accessible by light rail.

The dining room at Blowfish Ocean Grill + Bar is a lush 24-seat area on the upper floor.

With a menu focussed on both premium steak and seafood, alongside a well-curated wine and cocktail list, this is a place to have a seriously good time.

Kost Bar & Grill is another venue that has raised the bar on Gold Coast dining.

Notable for its seafood towers and roving trolleys serving caviar bumps and French champagne, the glassed-off private room offers diners their own intimate celebration space.

Social Eating House has a luxurious yet intimate dining room for eight people to dine in style, while Vida Broadbeach hosts up to 40, complete with AV for business presentations or celebrations.

Then there’s the venue that offers everything: The Island.

Whether you’re planning a birthday, social gathering, family celebration, conference, product launch, corporate event, long lunch, gala dinner, or wedding, The Island Gold Coast provides a range of designer spaces to suit your event.

Party on the rooftop or hold a celebration in one of their more intimate spaces; it’s up to you.

When luxury know no bounds, consider the recently opened event space at the Mondrian Gold Coast.

The Vee Room is located on Level 24 of the Burleigh Heads hotel, a beautiful private function area that offers sweeping views of the stunning coastline.

Perfectly suited to hosting a seated dinner for 60 people or a cocktail-style event for 100, a private meeting space with a view, or an intimate celebration, this versatile space could suit many needs.

Doubling as the Sky House accommodation, you also have the option to extend your experience with an overnight stay, or two, making it ideal for special occasions that deserve a little extra time to celebrate.

Fire-craftedDINING

Located in the heart of Sanctuary Cove, Kuroki Restaurant presents a refined approach to Japanese cuisine.

MULPHA, THE OWNER AND DEVELOPER of Sanctuary Cove, is delighted to welcome Kuroki Restaurant to the Marine Village dining precinct.

The upscale destination will offer a bold new take on Japanese teppanyaki fire-crafted cuisine, with Eddie and Kevin, the acclaimed operators of Kamikaze Teppanyaki Coomera, Superwok Coomera, and Bam Bam Korean Fried Chicken & Beer, bringing their unique offering to Sanctuary Cove in November.

“Kuroki embodies the spirit of omotenashi, where every gesture is purposeful, every detail considered, and every guest treated as an honoured guest,” Kevin said.

“We wanted to create more than a simple dining experience.

“At Kuroki, teppanyaki becomes a modern ritual of calm, connection and craftsmanship.”

Taking inspiration from the Japanese phrase for ‘black wood’, the restaurant’s name is a symbol that guides its aesthetic and culinary philosophy: rooted, refined and quietly powerful.

The menu will showcase a wide range of Japanese culinary experiences, including live teppanyaki, bento boxes, à la carte dishes, and traditional favourites such as sukiyaki – all designed to highlight craftsmanship, authenticity and modern elegance.

Diners can choose from counter seating at the teppan or intimate tables beneath draped lanterns that echo the black wood motif.

Barry Teeling, Director of QLD Development & Asset Management at Mulpha, said Kuroki is the latest step in Sanctuary Cove’s evolution into a premier food and lifestyle destination.

“We’re delighted to welcome Kuroki to the Marine Village,” Barry said.

“There is a growing appetite for elevated, diverse cuisine on the Gold Coast, and Sanctuary Cove is responding to this demand by attracting world-class operators.

“Kuroki’s teppanyaki concept is the kind of offering locals have been asking for and will deliver a unique experience for both groups and individual diners.” kurokiteppanyaki.com.au

Vine TIME

The Margaret River region ticks every box for wine lovers.

A TRIP TO THE MARGARET RIVER region should be on every wine lover’s wish list.

Sure, it’s an isolated region, further away from Australia’s East Coast than parts of Asia, however the quality of its wine alone, not to mention the beautiful scenery and sightseeing opportunities, warrants the region’s placement near the top of any bucket list.

Even its isolation works in our favour, with far less tourists at cellar doors leading to a more bespoke tasting experience.

Though grapes were first planted in Western Australia in 1830s by the Bussell family, the Margaret River region was a late starter in commercial grape growing.

Neither its ‘maritime’ Mediterranean climate, with heavy winter rain and a cool sea breeze, nor its gravelly soils were seen initially as conducive to high quality grape production.

Agronomist Dr John Gladstone’s 1966 research paper, identifying the region’s Bordeaux-like climate, was a breakthrough.

It led to the beginnings of a wine industry in Western Australia, led mostly by medical practitioners in the region.

Dr Tom Cullity planted grapes in Vasse Felix vineyards in 1967.

Others followed: Moss Wood in 1969, Cape Mentelle in 1970, Cullen in 1971 and Leeuwin Estate (1974).

With Cape Mentelle’s back-to-back Jimmy Watson Trophy wins in 1983 and 1984 adding proof of the region’s rising quality, by the 1990s Margaret River wines had come to the attention of Australia and beyond.

Ironically, the very factors which were a challenge for grape growing in Margaret River contributed to the area’s success, the region now recognised for the high quality of its wine, particularly Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The easiest way to travel to Margaret River is to fly to Perth and hire a car.

Besides visiting picturesque wineries, the trip contains many tourist attractions such as worldclass beaches, wildlife and native fauna, ancient

Voyager Estate

forests and caves, stunning artwork and installations, and historical precincts which provide insight into the history of Western Australia.

Past Margaret River, you may choose to explore the caves located south of the town, towering kauri forests near Denmark and Pemberton and the former whaling town of Albany, now famous for its National ANZAC Centre and national parks.

We visited Kings Park in Perth to photograph wildflowers, the town of Fremantle for its history and markets, Rottnest Island to see quokkas, Mandurah to discover ‘giants’ and Bunbury to follow the mural trail before heading down to tackle Margaret River’s 200 wineries.

South from Perth, the Margaret River wine region lies within a rectangular shape both north and south of the township of Margaret River.

There are many possible ways to approach your cellar door visits, ranging from tasting grape varietals to full vineyard tour experiences.

Our plan of attack was to choose a range of wineries: a couple of the trailblazers – Vasse Feliz and Cullen, some big names in wine – Leeuwin Estate and Voyager, and a couple of family-run award-winning vineyards – Deep Woods and Mr Barval. >>

Our friendly team of tree care professionals, led by a qualified level 5 arborist, adheres to the highest safety standards to expertly care for your trees.

Whether you are creating a glowing outdoor space with fairy lights, maintaining the health of trees and palms through tailored treatments such as pruning and soil injection or if you’re needing the safe removal of hazardous trees, we bring care and expertise to every tree.

Vasse Felix Vineyard and Cullen Wines are situated close to each other on Caves Road, north of Margaret River township.

The first commercial vineyard in the region, Vasse Felix is an impressive winery comprising three specialty vineyards.

For 50 years, Vasse Felix has followed organic principles while maximising quality and focussing on long-term sustainability.

The label has a longstanding reputation for its small batch, quality-led, minimal intervention winemaking approach.

This has produced some of the region’s most celebrated icon wines, however within its range you will also find very affordable table wines.

Owned by another founding family, for 40 years Cullen Wines has been the region’s most notable proponent of holistic growing practices, focussing on quality and sustainability.

It was the first winery in Australia to be certified 100 per cent carbon neutral in 2003, certified biodynamic in 2008, and they have recently started applying the minimal intervention approach to their bio-dynamic organic wines.

Cullen’s cellar door offers a range of options from a walk-in standard tasting to private seating tastings and a unique ‘wine in honey’ experience.

A visit to Leeuwin Estate immerses us in ‘the art of wine’.

Not only do they hold concerts on the green (presently occupied by a helicopter delivering guests) starring international artists such as Diana Ross, Tom Jones and Sting, but they also have an extensive modern art gallery open to the public and a well reputed restaurant on site.

Leeuwin Estate had auspicious beginnings when, in 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker

Robert Mondavi identified Denis and Tricia Horgan’s cattle farm as a great site for a winery, offering to mentor them through their first few years.

Leeuwin Estate burst onto the world stage in 1979 with their first commercial vintage ‘Art Series’ Chardonnay gaining Decanter magazine’s highest recommendation.

Leeuwin Estate wines, particularly their Art Series Chardonnay, have received world accolades ever since.

Voyager Estate grows even more beautiful by the year, ageing like the fine wine they produce.

Its stunning buildings in Cape Dutch architecture are surrounded by carefully tended rose gardens and manicured hedges; beauty on every horizon.

The sense of grace and style follows into the stunning cellar door.

A second-generation family estate, Voyager aims ‘to craft wines that do justice to our extraordinary climate and soils through some of the most pure, elegant, and balanced Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons in the world’.

Since 2020, one third of their vineyards have been classified as organic.

The quality of Margaret River wines does not diminish with the size of the winery.

Two smaller, family-run wineries that made big impressions on us were Deep Woods and Mr Barval.

Deep Woods maintains a small one-person cellar door on their scenic estate overlooking an undulating hillside of vines edged by forest.

Situated towards the northern end of the Margaret River region, the vineyards have been rejuvenated since their acquisition by the Fogarty Wine Group in 2005.

Vineyard practices are now sustainable, leading to smaller yields of higher quality fruit.

Deep Woods has attained some of our most prestigious awards, including the naming of Chief Winemaker Julian Langworthy as James Halliday's Winemaker of the Year 2019 and Winery of the Year 2017 (Ray Jordan).

They also have a host of further prestigious accolades from wine shows within Australia and abroad.

Mr Barval is an artisan boutique winery that was founded by owner/winemaker Rob Gherardi and his wife Kellie.

Rob has experience as a winemaker in Australia and Italy.

He uses a hands-on approach rooted in old world traditions, pressing the grapes by hand, using wild fermentation instead of adding yeast, and ageing his wine in second-hand barrels to create a range of complex, elegant, refined wines.

INJECTABLES, SKIN SOLUTIONS

Their fine wine is not entered in shows, relying instead on the excellence of the product and word of mouth to achieve sales.

The cellar door encourages seated wine tastings on couches, offering charcuterie boards with a choice of ingredients to accompany your experience.

The cellar door also doubles as an art gallery, displaying indigenous artworks from the Dillybag Collective.

No matter what your criteria is for deciding which wineries to visit you will find an abundance to choose from in Margaret River.

You will also leave the region knowing that there are many more vineyards you could have visited … just around the corner.

Incredible Istanbul

Spanning two continents and several cultures, Istanbul is a city of contrasts.
WORDS RHONDA OXNAM

FASCINATING, SPECTACULAR, OVERWHELMING … these are just some of the superlatives I think of when describing Istanbul.

We spent just four days there on our recent holiday and although we only scratched the surface, it gave us a wonderful insight into the colour, history and romance of this multicultural hub.

One of the city's most unique selling points is that it literally spans continents, with the European and Asian sides separated by a stretch of water known as the Bosphorus Strait (but more about this later). >>

Our hotel, recommended by the Cove Travel team, was located in the heart of the Old Town and within easy walking distance of many major attractions.

Like most of the buildings in the area it was quite old but charming, quirky and perfectly positioned.

Our room boasted a very welcome kingsized bed and spa bath, while the rooftop bar was the ideal vantage point to soak up the stunning sea views and spectacular sunsets.

Arriving early after our overnight flight, we spent the morning getting acquainted with the local area before joining an afternoon boat cruise along the Bosphorus.

This was a lovely way to see both sides of the city and we marvelled at the stunning architecture lining the busy stretch of water (including a home reportedly owned by U.S. President Donald Trump).

A quick stop on the Asian side revealed a very different, but equally as interesting, ambience.

The food, culture and buildings had a distinct Asian influence and as we reboarded our vessel we really felt as if we’d been to another country.

Back at the hotel, the helpful concierge was our ‘go-to’ for what to see, where to go and how to get there.

On his advice we hired a private tour guide for the following day and it was well worth it to have someone on hand that was able to share their insider knowledge, help us bypass the long queues and ensure we didn’t disrespect any of the local customs.

A word of advice for the ladies, be sure to throw a lightweight scarf in your bag.

You will need this if you want to go inside the mosques and although they do have some you can borrow, it is better to take your own.

Our walking tour started at the iconic Blue Mosque.

This spectacular structure was just as beautiful and expansive as you would expect but it was very crowded and I enjoyed our visits to some of the smaller mosques more.

Next stop was the Topkapi Palace, which served as the main residence and administrative centre of the Ottoman sultans for over 400 years.

Steeped in history, with opulent interiors and stunning architecture, this was one place I would have loved to spend more time exploring, but Instanbul was waiting so on we walked.

Having worked up quite an appetite, lunch was in a local restaurant where we indulged in delicious Turkish cuisine and learned more about the city from our informative guide.

He also took us to the obligatory carpet shop where we witnessed the craftmanship and artistry that goes into creating these popular floorcoverings.

Then it was on to my 'non-negotiable, mustsee' item on the agenda – the Basilica Cistern.

Friends had told me about the archaeological masterpiece but I was not prepared for the vastness or sheer majesty of this underground oasis which boasts 336 columns and holds a mind-boggling 80,000 cubic metres of water.

Located far beneath the old city, this was honestly one of the most awe-inspiring and magical sights I have seen in my travels.

While we by-passed the Hagia Sophia on this tour, Derek returned a few days later and was very impressed by the both the building and its history.

Back at the hotel we sought the advice of our trusty concierge about dining options and were pointed in the direction of a local seafood restaurant.

Despite its very unimposing entrance, we were ushered to an outside table with stunning water views and served delicious, fresh Sea Bass which would rival the fanciest establishment.

The following day it was time to brave the Grand Bazaar and it didn’t disappoint.

The maze-like market boasted everything from fake leathergoods to the most exquisite handmade glass (not to mention the hundreds of shops dripping with gold).

We were constantly greeted by stall holders calling out 'Let me sell you something you don't need' and I must admit I did come away with a few very pretty but ultimately useless souvenirs.

The nearby Spice Market was much smaller but just as chaotic and certainly worth exploring. >>

Your luxury hotel on wheels Istanbul to Paris A world of culinary delights

Our final morning saw us once again wandering through the streets and taking in the atmosphere and architecture around us.

While many travel sites advise you to leave the tourist areas and explore further afield, Istanbul is an exception to this rule and there is plenty to discover within the very walkable Old Town section of the city.

If you want to venture further out, I am sure you would find even more treasures, but we had everything we needed (and more) at our door.

Of course there are some downsides of being such a popular and populous destination: traffic is horrendous, inflation is going through the roof and the crowds make everything just that bit harder to get around.

But it is definitely worth the effort – this incredible city has left an indelible mark on my heart.

Unforgettable celebrations 100 years in the making.

Burleigh Beauty

Mondrian Gold Coast is the perfect spot for a beach holiday or staycation.

WE ARRIVED LATE IN THE AFTERNOON, just as Burleigh’s light turned the deep golden amber that makes the sea look syrupy and slow.

It had been months since hubby and I had escaped anywhere with no agenda but to be still – and the Mondrian Gold Coast, newly opened in Burleigh, felt like the right kind of stillness.

Boasting two towers of glass and ivory that hold their own above the coastline, the Mondrian is a place that moves at its own pace, where design whispers instead of shouts. >>

There’s a softness to the architecture, with the building’s curves and textures reflecting the natural rhythm of the land and sea that surrounds it.

Our Ocean-Facing One-Bedroom Suite was a welcoming sanctuary with a full kitchen, warm timber floors, linen-wrapped lounges, and a balcony that opened straight onto the endless blue.

We didn’t speak for the first ten minutes … just stood there barefoot, enjoying the sound of the sea and warmth of the sun.

The layout was sophisticated yet relaxed and perfectly appointed for a beach holiday or relaxing staycay.

Le Labo products in the bathroom. A bottle of local wine in the fridge. Everything tactile, textural, calm.

Feeling peckish, we wandered down to LiTO, the hotel’s street-level Italian eatery.

Casual, elegant, and sun-drenched for afternoon drinks, this was the perfect spot to spend a couple of hours.

We indulged in a hand-torn burrata, warm olives and warm crusty bread … and with the Mondrian located on our doorstep, we agreed that afternoon getaways at LiTO could become a regular occurrence.

turned into dinner, as we made our way to the rooftop restaurant, Haven.

Alive with tantalising woodfire scents and the hush of music drifting through from the pool club nearby, it was the perfect place to spend a Saturday evening.

We lingered over a delicious meal of Spanner crab, native greens and burnt citrus … there was no need to rush … nobody does here.

After spending the night in absolute luxury, we were looking forward to slipping into a booth, filling our table with fresh food and enjoying a slow breakfast.

The coffee was delicious and time flew as we picked at seasonal fruit, perfectly cooked eggs, granola and sourdough.

We had thought ahead and booked a couple’s massage and an infrared sauna for the morning before we left.

The hotel's CIEL Spa is tucked above the pool club, and once you cross into its calming atmosphere it’s as if nothing else exists.

Designed for holistic wellness, the spa menu offers an array of sensory treatments, restorative rituals and float therapies to help clients switch off from their busy lives.

There are also relaxation rooms for post treatment bliss.

The couple’s treatment space is beautiful, with a round tub tucked in the corner to enjoy before your massage.

It was the ideal way for us to relax before heading back home.

Our night away was the perfect reset with the Mondrian Gold Coast giving us exactly what we needed: a refreshing pause, space for reconnection, and a memory drenched in genuine warmth.

Drinks

City Hopping in the U.S.A.

I RECENTLY HAD THE PLEASURE of visiting the US for an investing event hosted by the CNBC news channel. Traders, analysts and experts, including the CEO from Goldman Sachs, gathered to discuss the markets at the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York, on the day that Tesla shares fell 17 per cent.

I am still kicking myself that I missed out on such a unique buying opportunity.

New York was everything one might have thought it to be, in the sense that the people were very welcoming, very friendly and – evidently – very hardworking.

I loved joining the cohort of runners doing laps around Central Park and was fortunate enough to have had family visiting New York at the same time, which made my time there seem all the more special. >>

After a few days exploring the busy streets of New York, I then ventured to Washington D.C. by train, which was a very simple and convenient process.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well the transport system was set up.

D.C. reminded me very much of Canberra, with the quiet, yet touristy, streets providing such a contrast to the hustle and bustle that New York exhibits.

I definitely recommend visiting the National Gallery of Art.

Unfortunately, I was not able to explore its full extent due to the fact there was so much to appreciate there.

I would simply love to return to D.C. to discover more.

I also enjoyed walking around the main garden areas, taking in the sights of the Supreme Court, The White House, war memorials and stunning architecture.

The next stop, before flying home, after what seemed like a sweeping visit, was Dallas.

My step-grandmother lives there and I had not seen her since my father and stepmother’s wedding, which was 20 years ago.

Time passes, yet my grandmother, who is now 84 years of age and a former professional ballerina, is still dancing en pointe and seemingly defying time.

I was lucky enough to attend a class with her and she took me through the steps to several arias.

I tried to follow her elegance and ease, yet could not do so, in spite of being almost 50 years her junior.

The human body, and mind, can be very powerful, as she exemplifies.

Texas appeared to be very much the same, in all the best respects, as when I visited as a child and I look forward to returning in the not-so-distant future.

There are many other areas of America which I would love to explore, including South America, as the hiking trails look incredible and the National Parks are simply iconic.

In the meantime, however, I have a visit back to the UK, as well as to France, to catch up with friends and family to look forward to.

“My favourite thing to do when travelling is food tours, particularly walking or on a bicycle, as your see a different side to a city which you miss when doing standard bus or car tours,” Lauren says.

"If I had to choose a favourite city it would have to be Osaka – there is a different level of energy and culture to Tokyo that is slightly edgy but amazing to experience.”

Lauren’s ‘bucket list’ destinations include Croatia, Patagonia and the Galapagos Islands.

Maree Peel –Travel Advisor

Maree found her passion for travel after working overseas in her early twenties and has now travelled to 36 countries, and counting.

She has also lived in Vietnam, London, America and New Zealand and intends to continue exploring the world, one destination at a time.

“Having recently become a grandmother to baby Elodie, family inclusive holidays are now on the horizon,” Maree says.

Q& A

As joint-CEO of Bunnik Tours, Dennis Bunnik has visited 100 countries, with many more still on the horizon.

What do you enjoy about travelling?

I love the variety of cultures around the world and just immersing myself into the destination.

As an av-geek though, for me the excitement already starts at the airport.

What has been your most memorable travel experience?

I flew into the Arab Spring Revolution in Egypt and helped get all our travellers out of the country two full days before the Australian Government Evacuation flights arrived there.

It was an incredible experience and I got to see firsthand how the Egyptian people look after visitors, even when their own country was in turmoil.

It really cemented my love for Egypt and its people and I have visited the country some 30 times since.

Is there a particular place on your travel ‘bucket list’?

Everywhere I haven’t been. Top of my list is the deserts of Namibia.

Window or aisle seat?

Window, always a window. The views make all the difference.

What is your most essential travel item?

A fully charged camera.

Car, coach, plane or ship?

Short distances always by road – relaxing on one of our full sized coaches watching daily life go by.

Long distances are always better by air.

What is your favourite iconic landmark and why?

This is like asking which is my favourite child. If I had to narrow it down it would be Petra for the manmade and Iguazu Falls for the natural beauty.

Is there one piece of travel advice you can share?

Travel is an adventure. Expect and embrace the unexpected. It reduces your stress and can often lead to the best stories and adventures

What is one destination that everyone should see in their lifetime?

Egypt, definitely.

What do you always do before you go?

Pack at the last minute then race to the airport and have a coffee in the lounge.

What is the most interesting/exotic dish you have tasted?

Amazon River Snails – they are not as tasty as they sound.

How has technology changed the way we travel today?

Photography and sharing photos is so much easier now than the days of waiting for your roll of 36 prints to be developed – and then some don’t even turn out to be good.

Can you name your favourite hotel?

Das Cataratas Hotel at Iguazu Falls in Brazil. We stay here on our Bunnik Tours South America In-Style tour.

It’s the only hotel within the national park on the Brazilian side.

In the morning before the park opens to visitors you have these incredible waterfalls all to yourself.

What is your favourite Australian destination?

Port Noarlunga Beach and the Fleurieu Peninsula south of Adelaide.

I grew up in Port Noarlunga and the stunning beach there is my happy place.

And it’s only 10 minutes’ drive from the wineries of McLaren Vale.

What have you bought on your travels that you really enjoy?

Other than some very good single malts, my best souvenir ever was the carved walking sticks we used when going up to see the mountain gorillas in Rwanda. The porters sold us the sticks for USD$10 each at the end of the trek.

I declared them when we arrived home and after inspection they let us bring them in.

Such a cool reminder of an incredible day of travel.

Where have you just returned from and where to next?

I have just come back from our Bunnik Tours Discover Iceland tour.

Iceland is such an incredible place and it was country number 100 for me so it was a very special trip.

Next up is London and then Japan before the end of the year.

Take THE LEAP

The Leapmotor C10 is among a host of new Chinese vehicles hitting the market.

WHILE WE’VE BEEN DOZING in the slow lane, a host of new words has flooded the Australian motoring lexicon.

Get used to Atto, Tiggo, Sealion, Shark, Deepal, Omoda, Jolion, Yangwang, Ora, Tank, Mifa, Zeekr, Denza, Leapmotor and many similar others.

You might not recognise them yet, but they’re the names of your likely new car, from China.

(I write more about Leapmotor further down this article.)

It is not surprising that Chinese car makers don’t recognise naming convention.

Along with weird monikers, they’re breaking plenty of other ground across the automotive sector.

They’re the world leaders in battery-electric vehicle technology and production volume.

Yet many of the brands are quite new; by comparison Mercedes-Benz was founded back in 1926. >>

The vehicles are relatively inexpensive and have come from behind rapidly to achieve high standards of technology, quality and usability.

They’re concentrating on market-dominating sales, not the ‘allure’ of heritage, so the cars are more like commodities – or appliances – than the traditional icons we’re used to.

No room here to be tempted by growling V8s or slender bodywork crafted in Modena.

We’re being offered dazzling tech, seductive comfort and mouth-watering value-for-money.

And should it surprise that a country like China is feverishly pursuing the zero-emissions benefits of EVs?

Meanwhile, sceptics ask what will happen when a Chinese EV starts to run down after 10 or 12 years.

I predict it will be sent to the recycling centre rather than the repair shop and you’ll just buy a new one.

Cars will be built in high volume to be as redundant as a superseded smartphone.

There’s more to the smartphone analogy.

On-board technology managing all sorts of features is being updated – just like your phone upgrades – remotely over the internet.

That means you and your car are connected to the car maker; it stores your data, password and history.

Remember the controversy in 2018 when the Australian Government banned Chinese telco Huawei from participating in the 5G mobile network?

Well, recently a former cybersecurity adviser seriously warned that connected Chinese EVs could be used as surveillance devices.

Security alerts aside, it’s easy to see how connectivity is becoming a major new revenue source for the car industry, especially for EVs.

Telcos like Apple and Google are in it up to the Clouds.

All the while, electric vehicles, especially those from China, are steadily overcoming a sceptical Australian market – EV sales totalled 163,000 to September this year.

The rate of conquest of fossil-fuelled car owners has heritage brands with smaller EV catalogues on high alert.

This has been a long preamble to review the Leapmotor C10 in context.

It’s an example of a medium-size Chinese SUV – competitively-priced, generously equipped, well-made, and inoffensive-looking, although unlikely to be recognised as anything in particular on the road, except perhaps a breadroll on wheels, from a manufacturer only 10 years old and unhindered by history.

The C10 EV comes in Style or Design variants priced before on-roads at $45,888 and $49,888 respectively (a 1.5 litre petrol-electric Hybrid costs from $43,888).

As kind of proof of the SUV’s automotive white-goods image, it was recently on sale with a $2,500 discount at Costco.

A single, 160 kiloWatt electric motor powers the rear wheels and Leapmotor promises a range of up to 420 kms.

The battery is said to charge up to 80 per cent in half an hour.

There is so-called vehicle-to-load capacity; that is, the ability to share its power with another device such as an electric scooter, television or kettle.

The car is easy to drive ... steering is light, the electric motor very accelerative and the ride quite soft over varying urban road surfaces.

Unfortunately, the experience plummets when the driver encounters some awkward or unnecessary technology.

The ‘key’ is a flat plastic card about the size of a credit card.

It must be waved against a specific spot on the outside mirror to lock or unlock.

Or a smartphone app will do the job … too clever by half.

On the move, there’s a cacophony of bings, bongs and dings announcing various warnings.

These are so distracting and sometimes alarming for the driver, they may be more dangerous than the actual hazard.

They can be switched off through various steps on the main screen, but reset every time the motor is re-started.

Connection to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto would be much preferred, but regrettably it’s not available on the Leapmotor.

The good things? A spacious and well-finished interior – leather, powered seats in the Design version – sunroof, and a big boot accessed via an electric tailgate.

Two dashboard screens access abundant information and functions.

Buyers get a seven-year/160,000 kilometre vehicle warranty and eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty.

I started the test term doubting the C10’s appeal, however, I finished quite liking the Leapmotor.

It’s plain inside and outside, but good quality, well-equipped and functional.

That will be exactly what many practical family buyers want.

(The electronic orchestra of warning sounds is a ‘bonus’ they will have to live with.)

The silence, smoothness and power of the EV become very satisfying after some city time behind the wheel.

It makes no pretence to being anything other than it’s intended to be.

But when I want some real driving pleasure, I’ll find something that still has cylinders under the bonnet.

(Leapmotor is introducing the smaller B10 SUV in Australia about now. It will be priced from $38,990 drive-away and is expected to rectify some of the C10’s superficial technical annoyances, which mar an otherwise likeable family car.)

FERRARI GOES ELETTRICA

FIRST it was the Purosangué, which Ferrari declined to admit was the SUV it said it would never build.

Now – gasp – the luxury marque has revealed its first electric car.

Code-named Elettrica for now, it will be launched mid-next year with four electric motors giving a stupendous 1000 horsepower.

The Elettrica will be a four-door, four-seater and the seventh stand-alone model in Ferrari’s growing range.

Following company policy, the limitedbuild new car is likely to be offered only to existing Ferrari owners, who presumably will not be concerned enough to ask about the price.

Moving MARKET

The incentives driving property growth.

GETTING A HANDLE ON where the property market is heading has become more challenging thanks to the latest government stimulus, but there is no denying that the sector has taken a bullish tone nationally.

This is reflected in the latest data from research group Cotality which revealed that September saw the strongest monthly rise in national dwelling values since October 2023.

The Cotality Home Value Index rose 0.8 per cent during the month, driven by momentum in capital cities and record-low property listings.

While the index’s increase appears modest, it led to a rise of $18,215 in the median dwelling value for September alone.

The pace of growth has also increased during the year with the September quarter up 2.2 per cent, accelerating from a 1.5 per cent increase in the June quarter and 1.1 per cent in the March quarter.

Property price growth is currently tracking well above the expectations of analysts earlier this year, with the market pushed along by the first cut to the official cash rate in February and two subsequent cuts by August.

These interest rate reductions delivered the robust kick that some analysts had predicted as buyers are showing a bigger appetite to spend more on home purchases.

Adding to the momentum more recently has been the federal government’s expanded Home Guarantee Scheme which now permits eligible first home buyers to secure a home with a 5 per cent minimum deposit and for eligible single parents with a minimum 2 per cent deposit. Under the expanded scheme, the government guarantees the balance of the 20 per cent deposit that is typically sought by lenders, which eliminates any need for mortgage insurance.

The minimum deposit incentive, introduced on 1 October, 2025, also has no income or place limits, while property price caps have also been increased.

If the real estate industry’s evidence is any guide, namely that first-home buyers have been rushing the market to lock in their dream home, the scheme has been a runaway success.

However, the official line from the government on the impact this will have on property prices is open to robust debate.

Prior to introducing the scheme, Treasury modelling estimated it would only increase residential property prices by 0.5 per cent over six years.

Anecdotal evidence tells a different story with many agents nationally reporting that buyers have been eager to bid up property prices just to get a foothold in the market.

While property price caps for eligible properties vary from city to city, the new scheme will essentially help first-home buyers jump into a $1 million home in Brisbane and Canberra with just a $50,000 deposit instead of $200,000.

The price cap in Sydney is the highest nationally at $1.5 million.

The buyer surge has been welcomed by the property market, but it also comes with a warning from some in the industry.

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) is among them, concerned that the expanded Home Guarantee Scheme will make it harder for lower income earners to enter the housing market.

The ICA, citing a report from Lateral Economics, says the scheme will push national property prices by up to 10 per cent in the first year, especially in those markets that are attractive to first-home buyers.

“While well intentioned, the Lateral Economics modelling makes clear that many first-home buyers will be worse off under this plan, at least in the first few years of the expansion,” says ICA CEO Andrew Hall.

Based on the latest data from Cotality, the broader market is already running at close to that level.

As the September-quarter increase in the Cotality Home Value Index accelerated to 2.2 per cent, this implies an annual price gain that is close to double digits.

The latest research shows that Perth and Brisbane are outpacing the larger capitals, with values rising 4 per cent and 3.5 per cent respectively in the September quarter.

The apartment market is leading the gains in both cities, which is the reverse of most markets.

Darwin remains the strongest market in terms of growth with values up 5.9 per cent.

Cotality’s research director Tim Lawless says the gains in these three capitals reflect a ‘severe lack of advertised supply’.

“The number of homes for sale at the end of September was about 53 per cent lower than average in Darwin, 45 per cent below average in Perth and down 31 per cent in Brisbane,”he says.

“At the same time, estimates for quarterly home sales are tracking above average, demonstrating a clear disconnect between demand and supply.”

Notably, Cotality says that while home values have increased across each of the ‘broad value tiers’, the pace is strongest at the lower end of the market and towards the ‘broad middle’.

“This is likely a reflection of increased borrowing capacity thanks to lower interest rates, which in turn is supporting demand at slightly higher price points,” says the researcher.

Sky HIGH

Marina Point Apartments secure record
$7.7 million sale for a super-sized penthouse.

IN A LANDMARK TRANSACTION FOR Hope Island's prestige property market, Marina Point Apartments has secured a record $7.7 million off-the-plan sale through a rare amalgamation of two penthouses into one oversized home in the sky.

The impressive 553sqm residence has soaring 4-metre ceilings and panoramic river views, setting a new benchmark for waterfront apartment living on the Northern Gold Coast.

Originally designed as two separate threebedroom penthouses, the new super-sized apartment now offers four bedrooms plus a separate study, a 7m x 5m private cinema, four bathrooms and a powder room.

Two vast living areas, four secure car spaces and dual kitchens – one serving as the main culinary hub and the other forming part of a private guest wing for children and grandchildren – create a home designed for both lavish entertaining and intimate family living.

Additional features include a wine bar and fridge, a statement fireplace and an elevated level of bespoke interior finishes.

The buyers, a local Sanctuary Cove couple, have deep ties to the area and came across development by chance.

“The first time I heard about Marina Point Apartments was when I cycled past the vacant site some years ago and I saw the signs up for a building coming soon,” said Buyer Colin Sampson.

“I realised the site itself was beautiful with north and north-east facing aspects, so I first made enquiries and my son went on to purchase an apartment in Stage 1.

“We came to know the team quite well and that’s where our story began.

“Reza and Dominika in sales, the developers Rick and Louise and Scott, the in-house architect – it’s like a very warm family that have always been there for us, and that’s what we really appreciate.

“Usually you don’t have access to developers, they are faceless, but that’s not the case here –when the owner is walking around with a hard hat and tools on his waist, you know they are serious about the business.”

Mr Sampson added their current home in Sanctuary Cove requires constant maintenance, which is why the Marina Point lifestyle was so attractive.

“There's always something in a house that needs attention, whether it's the swimming pool, sweeping the decks or washing the patios or roof,” he said.

“What's so wonderful for us at Marina Point is that everything is here.

“The swimming pools, gym, sauna, golf room, gardens and Resident Lounge are wonderful amenities – and someone else can worry about the maintenance which is very appealing at our stage of life.

“It’s been a really unique experience and not only are we looking forward to living in the apartment itself, but taking in those stunning north and north-east facing vistas too.”

Builder developer Rick Sheida said the buyers were drawn to the rarity and scale of what Marina Point could offer, including a size and configuration unavailable anywhere else in the local market.

“Opportunities like this don’t come along often,” Mr Sheida said.

“The chance to combine two penthouses into one super-residence is incredibly rare, and we’re open to doing it for other buyers if they come to us before construction progresses too far.

“The Sampson family had a vision, and we are thrilled to bring it to life.”

The private marina with bridge-free access to the ocean was another real value-add.

“While we have a boat on our jetty at the moment, we’ve also purchased a 20-metre berth at Marina Point, so perhaps we will get a bigger boat too," Mr Sampson said.

“It’s the lifestyle here that really suits us.”

Backed by a local family-owned team with 38 years’ experience in Hope Island, The Sheida Group is honoured to help shape a community they have believed in from the very beginning.

The team successfully delivered the nearby $300 million Anchorage Apartments community, and now the same passion and attention to detail is going into Marina Point – combining prestige,

convenience and a strong sense of community like no other on the Northern Gold Coast.

Residents have exclusive access to the already completed Wellness Pavilion with a 25m lap pool, golf simulator room, yoga studio, fully equipped Technogym and infrared sauna.

Additional resort style amenities include a Resident's Lounge on the water’s edge, a golf putting green, BBQ facilities and more than one hectare of landscaped gardens and green space overlooking the water.

As a gated masterplanned community, Marina Point lies across 2.2 hectares, featuring four boutique buildings and 370m of absolute water frontage.

Limited opportunities remain for custom amalgamations, with Building 2 construction now underway and the in-house construction team progressing well.

Residences are selling from $1,405,000 for a three-bedroom apartment to $4,500,000 for 319sqm penthouses – all with two or three secure car parks.

The Marina Point Showroom is located onsite at 72 View Line Terrace in Hope Island, open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

The recently-finished display unit is also available for private viewings in Building 1, which is due for completion March 2026. marinapointapartments.com.au

AT PROVINCIAL HOME LIVING, Christmas is more than a date on the calendar; it’s a celebration of stories, memories and style.

Each year, Provincial bring the season to life through thoughtful decorations, timeless festive traditions, and fresh styling ideas.

Planning begins months in advance, led by the dedicated Purchasing Team and talented in-house Graphic Designers.

They start by reviewing the previous season, noting which designs, colours, and products customers loved most, using these insights to shape the new collection.

Next comes the Initial Concept Phase, where they imagine the look and feel of the season, outlining ranges, colours and standout pieces.

Drawing on classic holiday themes while adding fresh twists, Provincial bring these ideas to life in Product Development.

Working closely with suppliers, the team create samples – from festive linens to homewares – and refine them until every detail is perfect.

Once approved, final orders are placed and timelines set to ensure everything arrives on time.

When the collection reaches the warehouse, it moves into Photography and Visual Merchandising, where every piece is beautifully captured and thoughtfully displayed.

By October, Provincial stores and their online shop are transformed into a festive wonderland, ready to inspire customers with the magic of the season.

At the heart of every Provincial Christmas are the traditional colours of red and green, grounding each collection in timeless charm.

Each collection is designed to allow you to build upon your holiday treasures, enhancing the memories and enchantment, year after year.

And because they’re designed in-house and made exclusively for Provincial Home Living –you won’t find them anywhere else.

This year, the team are delighted to unveil two enchanting new themes – Noelle Vintage and Noelle Nordic – to add to their ever-growing festive collection:

Noelle

Vintage Christmas –A Classic Celebration

Provincial’s Vintage collection is inspired by the timeless beauty of a traditional Christmas, where rich reds and glowing gold accents set the scene.

Luxurious touches of velvet, poinsettias, and holly bring a sense of nostalgia, while elegant gold candlesticks add a festive sparkle.

Balanced with natural textures and a hint of crisp white, the look feels both opulent and welcoming – a celebration of tradition, warmth, and the magic of Christmas past.

It’s designed to infuse your home with warmth, joy, and unmistakable holiday cheer.

Noelle Nordic Christmas –Fresh & Natural

The Nordic collection embraces the fresh, green and white palette of a nature-inspired Christmas, capturing the serene beauty of the outdoors in your home.

Christmas trees take centre stage, as do wreaths and centrepieces.

Each element works together to create a calm, inviting atmosphere, where the soft contrast of crisp whites against natural greens feels both elegant and effortlessly festive.

Accents of wood, linen and natural fibres add depth and warmth, while simple, thoughtful homeware pieces allow the beauty of the season to shine without overwhelming the space.

Perfect for those who love a calm, understated celebration, the Nordic collection brings a refreshing, timeless approach to Christmas,

offering a tranquil and harmonious setting in which to gather, decorate and enjoy the festive season.

You’ll find the full Noelle Christmas collection beautifully displayed throughout Provincial’s stunning Helensvale store, where tables are set, trees are decorated, and everything you need for your Christmas is carefully displayed to help with festive inspiration.

SCORPIO 24 Oct – 22 Nov

The Scorpio new moon on November 20 brings the chance to begin a fresh chapter in a personal or professional relationship. So early November is excellent for seeding new projects that could improve your primary relationships. There will be surprises along the way and seasonal festivities are likely to begin early, so be sure to maintain good health practices to avoid fatigue.

SAGITTARIUS 23 Nov – 22 Dec

The first two weeks of November are likely to be busy as Mars provides the opportunity to enjoy life more through celebrations and favourite activities. Work-wise, you’ll gain the chance to reconsider some of your circumstances. If you’re ready for change, this is a good time to research your path forward, ready to implement plans towards Christmas or early 2026.

CAPRICORN

23 Dec – 20 Jan

The full moon supermoon on November 6 will spotlight your true feelings about your home life. Some communications may be intense, so avoid rash decisions; far better to consider circumstances carefully. You’ll enjoy an early festive season in the end of November. Financially, you can make headway, but must research figures, especially in December.

AQUARIUS

21 Jan – 19 Feb

Spice up your life! It’s a good time to refresh your career and to reinvigorate your life with more investment in your favourite past-times. You may be drawn to develop a fresh understanding with someone. Be sure to take the initiative and be prepared to step into fresh territory. However, you must also be sure to adequately research logistics to avoid unwanted surprises.

Stars

PISCES 20 Feb – 20 Mar

The coming months are ideal for expanding your experiences in life. For some, this will be via spirituality; for others, self-development, study, travel and broadening horizons via your favourite interests. A father or authority figure could be instrumental in an important decision. Keep an eye on financial developments, as you’ll gain insight into the best way forward in 2026.

ARIES 21 Mar – 20 Apr

Be prepared for a fresh approach to your health and work as a promising cycle begins; you may even experience a boost in either area in November. If you’re launching a project, try to get paperwork complete by November 9. You can improve finances, but you must avoid overspending. The supermoon on December 4 could refresh your love life, so reach out!

TAURUS 21 Apr – 21 May

Two consecutive supermoons will supercharge your life. The first, on November 6, brings an exciting phase, even if this period initially presents as intense – in a key relationship if you were born in April, and at work or health-wise if you were born in May. The second, on December 5, brings a fresh financial chapter, an agreement or work contract which will merit research.

GEMINI 22 May – 21 Jun

Your sign’s ruler, Mercury, turns retrograde on November 10, so if you would like to kick-start a project, try to do so before then for best results. If not, November is a good testing ground for existing projects, so be sure to tweak plans if need be. This may also be an emotional time, especially around the supermoon in Gemini on December 5. Keep an eye on overspending.

CANCER 22 Jun – 23 Jul

The coming months are ideal for gaining a philosophical and open mind towards your growth. See them as a learning phase to gain strength and purpose. The end of November and early December are ideal for romance, the arts and creativity, so be sure to plan a treat. You’re likely to enjoy Christmas and the New Year, but must avoid tense interactions towards the 31st.

LEO 24 Jul – 23 Aug

You’ll see progress both at work and in your personal life by researching ways to grow finances and to invest more in your key relationships. If you feel some circumstances in your life do not support you, consider ways to make changes, as this is a good time to reconfigure key infrastructure. Romance, music and the arts will all appeal towards Christmas and the New Year.

VIRGO 24 Aug – 23 Sept

Look after your interests carefully from November 9 onwards. If you feel stuck mid-month, find ways to bring more activities into your daily life that you love. In December, domestic matters could bring an increased sense of security. If you’re travelling, you’ll feel inspired on your return. You’re likely to consider sharing your home in new ways towards the end of the year.

LIBRA 24 Sept – 23 Oct

Extra effort in areas of your life that are important to you, such as your love life, will prove rewarding. Celebrate good relationships, as you’ll gain a sense of purpose. Otherwise, stress in other areas of your life could spill over into them. You may be inclined to be extravagant, so put a budget in place, especially for Christmas. You’ll be drawn to make changes at home.
