In a bid to address the seating and furniture needs of schools, the Department of Education (DepEd) successfully distributed chairs and tables to Banisilan National High School(BNHS)onFebruary16,2024.

According to DepEd, many schools in the Philippines face a shortage of essential school furniture. This issue led to the implementation of Department Order No. 100 of 2011, also known as the School Furniture Program.Theprogramprioritizesschoolsmostin needofclassroomseatsandfurniture, asidentified in the latest analyses from the Enhanced Basic Education Information System (EBEIS), the National School Building Inventory (NSBI), and the Office of the Undersecretary for Administration(OUA).

“We received 480 sets of learner tables and chairs, and 12 sets of teacher tables. The learner

tables and chairs were distributed evenly across each grade level to ensure fairness,” said Raymart S. BragasfromtheBNHSadministration.

Bragas further explained that there were only two sections in each grade level where the new furniture was allocated, with each section receiving40setsoftablesandchairs.

“Since there were only 12 teacher tables, we couldn't accommodate all the teachers. Therefore, our principal, George P. Fulgencio, managed the distribution of these furnishings,” headded.

Grace P. Labesores noted that the distribution of learner furniture was conducted through a draw to ensure equality. All advisers participated equally in the process to guarantee fairness.

Students and their advisers who received the new furniture expressed their happiness and appreciation, as the new tables and chairs will significantly enhance their learning environment.

“It was a big help not only for me but also for my students. Since the students came back for face-to-face classes last school year, they were having a hard time with their studies because if the chairs aren't broken, they really have nowhere to sit,” said Justine B. Serue, Grade 10 – Volta adviser and one of the recipientsoftheproject.

DepEdaimstoprovideeverystudent with the best possible learning experience, and this initiative is part of their ongoing effort to support and improve educational facilities. The students are encouraged to take care of the new furniture and make the most of their improved learningenvironment.

As part of the Department of Education (DepEd)’s Christmas project, the Banisilan National High School headed by Principal George P. Fulgencio, together with the science teachers and selected students, participated in the activity to plant 236,000 trees across the last December 8, 2023.

Banisilan National High School’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) showed another initiative in August 2023, with the construction of their new office. The move aimed to provide a dedicated venue for discussing school concerns and resolving issues convenientlyandeffectively.

This project was implemented under the leadership of PTA President Esmael P. Bayangan, along with the board of directors, in collaboration with theBNHSfaculty, staff, andparents.

Bayangan disclosed that the budget allocated for the construction came from the PTA collection from the first quarter of the school year 20232024.

Having spent two days constructing the building, the office is located behind the school’s Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Building.

Meanwhile, School Principal Geoge P. Fulgencio stated that the purpose of the construction of the PTA Office is to allow PTA members to have an area where their meetings and gatheringscanbeheld, andtobrainstorm about the unresolved issues and concerns regardingschooloperations.

“The PTA Office is important for the officers because before, PTA meetings were conducted in my office so there were times that the office was needed for other meetings that I had to attend to, so their assembly would get disturbed and also, they couldn’t get their privacy,” Fulgencioadded.

Although the school’s new PTA office building is finished already, some important interior items and furniture are still underway. Nevertheless, the structure is already functional and is being used by the PTA officersfortheirmeetingsandgatherings.

“By giving students the chance to actively engage in tree planting activities, the project deepens their understanding of environmental issues and supports conservation efforts. Students will acquire a strong sense of responsibility towards the environment through practical application of environmental ideas and hands-on learning," thememorandumstated.

Vice President and Education

Secretary Sara Duterte gave the order for the project's implementation, instructing all DepEd regional offices to work with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to obtain

seedlings for every school in their area. She stated that the seedlings have to be native fruit-bearing trees from the Philippines or mangroves for schools withincoastalareas.

Planting trees can increase the resilience of the ecosystems, and helps minimize climate change effects. When it comes to tree planting, to make it work and to ensure that it will grow and serve its purpose, it needs unity and proper care.

The activity started at 7:00 AM after the examination and careful assessment of the area. They considered the soil, the capacity of the ground, and the situation of the tress if it rains. Moreover, the identification of specific areas where the gap exists has to be considered. This can be achieved by analyzing past assessments and results such as PISA and evaluation of underlying factors affecting theperformanceandtheefficiencyoftheeducationalsystem.

In fact, Education Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Gina Gonong emphasized that the performance of Filipino students remained stable and positive in the sense that many other countriesperformancefellshort.

However, the evidence of our shortcomings is crystal clear and the optimism our leaders is showing may seem helpful at one point but can actually give false reassurance in the long run. This mindset only sugarcoats the issue, which invalidates the negative aspects of the situation, hindering us from recognizing the rootcauseoftheproblem.

In dealing with educational challenges, one must pursue the truth that come with it. Truth may hurt alongthewaybutadmittingitisthefirststepofmovingforwardtowardsaccurateandtangiblesolutions. Strive to perform individual’s duty and responsibility and never settle with the comfort of lies. The process may take time and require extensive effort but staying true to it will keep everything on track in sustaining quality and genuineeducationforall.

As we continue to strive for quality education, the transition between school years can still pose many challenges that may lead to concerns. It brought about a mix of excitement and a sense of conflict towards the students and even the educators. What rises above all else is the challenge in adjusting to the changes of the school’s new chapter.

Transitioning into a new school year means struggling with significant challenges that can impact students’ academic performance. Whether it's moving up a grade level or stepping into unfamiliar classrooms, the shift can evidently evoke feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. These emotions are further compounded for students who find themselves least, last, or worse, lost in the middle of these changes, adding an extra layer of complexitytotheiradjustment.

For a long time, the society has been raising the flag of question mark regarding people’s qualification towards success. They are torn between two different options that potentiallycan leadtosuccess:strategyordegree.

A few people would claim that strategy in life is much needed because a degree is nothing without strategy especially those people who still became successful without finishing their studies or dropping out of school. Yet, the other half also claims that degree is still the key to success. Given this dilemma, I personally believe that education has still a significant impact towards a person's success. In everything that an individual does, education is needed in order to learn how to survive in life because without it, living can be like a lost bird, flyingaimlessly.

Education is the foundation of every intelligence. Every tiny detail of knowing we possess as a person is taught to us by educators be

Last March 18, 2024, a teacher from a Philippine public school went viral after posting a TikTok Live video of her berating her presumed students inside a classroom. The incident has ignited widespread discussion and concern regarding the appropriate conduct of educatorsindigitalspaces.

The role of teachers in every student's life is crucial. Aside from teaching the lessons that students must learn, teachers are also expected to become role models to their learners in becoming future civil contributors for our country. However, the teachers actions clearly violated Child Protection Policy under the DepEd Order No. 40 series of 2022, which prohibits any behavior that demeans child’s worth.

Moreover, resorting to scolding children with severe criticism and harsh language is not the only right and appropriate method of discipline. While patience and understanding may

Teachers, too, face their fair share of uncertainties during these transitions. While often perceived as experts, it’s easy to say that educators must navigate the shifting dynamics of each new batch of students, adapting teaching strategies to cater to varying learning styles and adjusting

it our parents, teachers, or even the people we interact daily or rarely. As such, the process of education in our life is crucial as it gives us the opportunity to learn things both formally and practically.

Moreover, the system of education encompasses the knowledge of a person on a wider scale. When we talk about education, it does not limit to one road. In fact, just like a tree, it has a lot of branches. Each of these branches contributes to the growth of an individual and makes up a beautiful and bountiful fruit for the time to come. One just needs to be dedicated in cultivating it to get a great result.

On the other hand, we cannot still disregard the fact that strategy also plays a vital role in our life. We also learn and even overcome life’s hurdles just by making the best out of situations. We observe, struggle, and evenlearn the hardest wayjust tokeeppacewithlife.

The education of the students across the country will about to face a new direction as Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio presented her solid-agenda, known as the MATATAG curriculum, last January 30,2023. The said proposalaimstoresolvethe education woes,by its meaning to “Make the curriculum relevant to produce job-ready, Active and responsible citizens; TAke steps to accelerate the delivery of basic education services and provision facilities; TAke good care of learners by promoting learning wellbeing, inclusiveness learning, and positive learning environment; and Give support for teachers to teach better.”

However, the proposal made my eyebrowsraise.

According to research from the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, the accelerated implementation of MATATAG curriculum already hosted a lot of challenges that rippled throughout the education system by its first year, It already failed to account for the time intensive process developing suitable learning

just be an understatement, there exist more effective approaches such as recognizing positive behavior. Thus, teachers are expected to uphold dignified conduct, retract from discrimination or humiliation, and should not justify their actions based on heated-upemotions.

The incident also served as a constant reminder for teachers and students alike that whatever business happens inside the classroom, it should stay there to uphold confidentiality and protection of the both parties and the broadcast of teaching and learning process on social media platforms as a content or for clout should not be done in the first place in order to sustain a healthy and responsible behavior both in physical and digitalworld.

On the other hand, it’s also important to recognize that teaching is a demanding and exhausting profession. Teachers, like everyone else, face challenges and struggles in fulfilling their duties. In light of this, The Teachers' Dignity

curriculummaterialsand meetingupdated academic standards present formidable challenges in themselves. It’s quite superficial but the truth is, teachers are still left with limited options as they arealsoput inthehot seat.

Consequently, as highlighted in a report by United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), research indicates that positive school experiences during transition periods significantly influence children's future social, emotional, and educational outcomes. How well students navigate these challenges not only impacts their academic outcomes but also influences their social and emotional development inthe long term. Therefore, it's crucial to recognize and acknowledge the pressing nature of the transition between school years and its important implications for students’ success.

So, to address these challenges, schools can implement various supportive measures. Orientation sessions and peer programs can help ease students' transition into the new academic setting, while interventions such as tutoring and counseling can also provide essential

However, life becomes smoother if not easier if one acquires the proper education. That is why education is a right and not just a privilege. It is something that everybody deserves and a person’s being is only molded through the journey oflearningthat onegainsallfromeducation.

To sum it up, education is much important and relevant to a person’s future success than strategy. Without education, people cannot even come up with better strategies. Thus, education must be our top priority more than ever because it empowers people and transforms lives in thebest waypossible.

support for those facing academic difficulties. These programs and interventions do not only pave way towards quality education but also make sure that learnersareseenand heard.

Meanwhile, investing in the professional development of educators is equally important. Equipping them with the tools and strategies needed to adapt to changing educational paradigms can be surely beneficial too. Embracing flexibility in curriculum implementation allows teachers to tailor their approaches to suit the diverse needs of their students, fostering a more engagingand inclusivelearningenvironment.

By embracing these strategies, educational institutions can create a nurturing environment that empowers both students and teachers to navigate the changes and challenges of school year transitions successfully. While the path ahead may be uncertain, with the right support and mindset, every change and challenge can be transformed into an opportunity for growth and resilience.

materials. Crafting effective and engaging materials that align with the updated curriculum demands thoughtfulconsideration andmeticulousplanning.

With the implementation of this agenda, one of the issues discovered was that the said curriculum was overloaded with too many lessons, specifically in Science. This agenda also required instructors to teach an excessive number of learning competencies with very limited time available forinstruction. Both teachersand students were overburdened with lessons and other school tasksandactivities.

In defense, VP Sara released a statement that the results of this devastation compromised the mastery of fundamental skills of learners such as reading and solving problems. In addition, these issues along with other existing factors and conditions, contributed to the learning losses.

But, this agenda already made negative impacts on students’ capabilities to learn. Not even a day that students could post their feelings about how burdened the overloaded school

Coalition (TDC) called on the executive and legislative agencies to institutionalize the needed protection for teachers. The DepEd also said it would verify the report from the field and provided additional updates on the matter especially on the teacher’s explanation.

However, despite the hardships of being the role model and the mentor of our future citizens, we should not tolerate the fact that the teacher took her way of discipline a step too far. Her words and actions should not be ignored, and furtheractionsareappreciated.

Our generations of today are tough to deal with especially when there's only one teacher against a lot of them. Teaching is a difficult job, a noble profession indeed. Nevertheless, the name of the agenda itself doesn’t sound solid enough as the people involved in it could not stand strong for the department’s changes. I know that DepEd wants to improve our education’s quality, however, this shouldn’t be rushed.

In an ideal world, safety and security should be ensured to all citizens without question. But unfortunately, the reality is much more different. Each day, headlines are filled with tragic stories of lives lost due to accidents, killings, robberies, and otherformsofviolence.

According to the National Baseline Study on Violence against Children and Youth (NBS-VAC) about 80% of Filipino children and youth aged 13-24 years old experience any form of violence. This clearly shows that the current state of safety and security trends is still showing its negativeimpacts.

also leave survivor with life-altering injuries, emphasizingtheneed ofimprovingroad safety.

Additionally, violent crimes such as killings and robberies pose a significant threat to public safety as it has been observed to be on the rise. According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), they’ve recorded 6.86% of robbery as of the first six months of 2023. Many humans lost their lives due to senseless violence and many valuables has been taken away due to a greedy burglary, which resulted to citizens feeling unsafe and being aware with their surroundings, fearing that someonewillstrikewhen they'reat theirlowest.

However, it's crucial to understand that there are inherent limitations to what governments can achieve independently. While initiatives like increasing police presence and investing in road safety improvements are commendable, they often focus on addressing symptomsratherthan tacklingunderlyingcauses.

To create a safer and more secure environment for all citizens, it's imperative to address root causes. This involves implementing proactive measures that prioritize prevention and foster community engagement. By focusing on these strategies, we can work towards effectively reducing crime and ensuring long-term safety outcomes.

On January 26, 2024, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued DepEd Order No. 002, titled "Immediate Removal of Administrative Tasks" for public school teachers, endorsed by Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte as part of the MATATAG Agenda. The order marks a significant step towards enhancing the educational landscape by prioritizing classroomteachingoveradministrativeduties.

However, the implementation of this directive has sparked concerns among educators, particularly in institutions facing administrative staffing shortages. Teachers worry about the feasibility of fully implementing the order under current conditions.

The initiative underscores the critical role of teachers and aims to optimize their time for effective classroom instruction. Vice President Sara Duterte emphasized the need to refocus efforts on teaching, stating,"Let's get ourteachers back in the classrooms."

Despite the increased awareness campaigns and strict traffic regulations, reckless and distracted driving continue to cause a significant number of accidents. According to the latest update of statista.com, around 72 thousand road traffic accidents occurred in Metro Manila, Philippines last 2022. Accidents are often unpredictable. However, these accidents did not only result to heartbreaking loss of life, but these

DepEd's goal with this order is to streamline teacher workload, ensuring that educators can dedicate more time to teaching and less to administrative tasks. The move is aligned with efforts to improve the delivery of quality education and enhanceteacherwelfare.

In addition to reducing administrative burdens, DepEd is exploring non-base wage benefits to supplement teachers' salaries, a measure aimed at recognizing their essential role and improvingoverallcompensation.

But others would argue that ancillary tasks, despite their burdensome nature, can still contribute to teachers' professional and personal development. These tasks include approximately fifty ancillary services identified in the 2018 Teacher Workload Balance Study, often delegated duetostaffingshortagesin schools.

Ultimately, DepEd's initiative signifies a commitment to enhancing educational standards and teacher well-being. Moving forward,

One of the priorities of our school as we transitioned back to face-to-face classes last school year was to ensure health and sanitation. To accommodate this need, additional comfort rooms were constructed. Unfortunately, the current state of these facilities is far from satisfactory. Sanitarynapkins scattered on thefloor, bad urine odors, and even worse, unflushed waste in the toiletsare now common sights.

In Filipino culture, cleanliness is deeply rooted. From an early age, we are taught to be tidy, clean up our mess, and maintain personal hygiene. However, sincethebeginningofthe school year, I've observed these troubling conditions on a daily basis. It appears that students have become accustomed to these unpleasant scenarios, accepting themasthenormin ourschool.

As the school year 2023-2024 started, the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented a ban on wall decorations in all public-school classrooms as DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte expressed support for the decision, arguing that clean classrooms help maintain students' focus on their teachers, books, or activities. According to DepEd Memorandum No. 21, schools are mandated to keep classrooms and school grounds free from unnecessary artwork, decorations, andtarpaulinsatalltimes.

As a part of the generation affected by this sudden change, I find myself opposed to this decision. Educational decorations have long been a staple in our classrooms, aiding us in recognizing the Philippine map, phonetic symbols, and important messageslikeanti-bullyingposters.

Decorations, somehow makes the classroom or the environment child-friendly and engaging. They are more than just decorations.

Moreover, the unhygienic conditions of these comfort rooms also pose serious health risks. The foul odors, if inhaled over a prolonged period, can lead to respiratory illnesses.

Teachers exerted efforts to enhance learning through these visual aids. Research shows that visual stimuli like bulletin boards can improve mood, alertness, and calmness among students. Moreover, these decorations contribute to a positive classroom atmosphere, which is crucial for students'emotionalwell-being.

In addition, decorations play a vital role in fostering creativity and appreciation for art among students, aspects that shouldn't be overlooked. It’s important that students understand and take good care of their environment, developing their sense of responsibility at the same time.

Many suggest that heavily decorated classrooms may indeed divert attention from lessons. Some would even argue that decorations could distract students during lessons. However, teachers are experts at managing classroom dynamics and can use decorations as teaching aids

On the other side, our government continuously implements safety measures aimed at making the world a safer place. Actions such as the increased police presence in high-crime areas, investments to improve road safety, and lawmaking prescription to regulate firearms shows the dedication of governments to address safety concerns.

it is imperative to engage educators in constructive dialogue and adapt policies that support both effectiveteachingand administrativeefficiency. Balancing these perspectives is crucial as the education sector navigates the transition. While prioritizing classroom teaching is essential, addressing administrative gaps without compromising educational quality remains a challenge.

This order should serve as a catalyst for continuous improvement, ensuring that our teachers are adequately supported in their mission tomold thefuturecitizensofournation.

Additionally, the gross environments can become breeding grounds for the spread of diseases. Pathogens such as Norovirus, E. coli, Shigella, and Streptococcus thrive on the unclean surfaces of toilets, floors, and walls, accelerating the transmission ofinfections.

The adverse conditions also influence student behavior in a harmful way. Some students might avoid drinking andeating soasnottouse the comfort rooms during school, potentially holding their needs for urination for long periods of time. This practice can cause urinary tract infections (UTIs) and gastrointestinal issues, leading to decreased focus and poorer learning outcomes. Furthermore, avoiding sufficient hydration can result in dehydration, manifesting in fatigue, dizziness, poor concentration, and diminished cognitivefunctions.

On the other side, many would argue that maintainingthe cleanliness of comfort rooms is challenging primarily due to inconsistent water

effectively. In fact, many teachers have voiced concerns about losing these resources, which they created and provided for the benefit of their students.

Thus, it's important to strike a balance. Decorations can enhance focus and create a conducive learning environment for as long as they areutilized moderatelyandappropriately.

In conclusion, the decision to remove classroom decorations seems misguided since decorations are not a barrier to achieving academic goals. It's important to consult educators before implementing such policies to ensure that they trulybenefit studentsandtheteachersaswell.

Ultimately, in a world where safety and security must be achieved and sustained, the question still remains: Are safety and security our priority?

supply. Without water, students are unable to clean up after use. Despite this, the responsibility still lies with users especially those who are unaware of propercomfort roometiquette.

To address these issues, the school must ensure sustainable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services. Training and ongoing support should be provided to educate everyone on the proper use, maintenance, and care of the facilities.Duringwatershortages, strategies suchas collecting rainwater for sanitation purposes should beimplemented.

Aside from home, our school is also potential to promote and cultivate healthy habits among members of the school community. If we cannot uphold the cleanliness of our school, the discomfort extends beyond mere inconvenience, raising serious concerns about our effectiveness in nurturing responsible and health-conscious individuals.

Last 2020, a report conducted by the World Wildlife Fund found that 35% of total plastic waste produced across the country exposed to the environment, 9% being recycled, and 33% was collected and placed in sanitary landfills, making the Philippines as 4th on the top waste generator in Southeast Asia.

Subsequently, this situation in our country gets only worse, and eventually becomes inevitable. In fact, our school campus is not exempted from this problem, making our home of learning a horrible sight to behold.

So, to enlighten us about this alarming issue, The Corn Valley Publication asked seven selected students of Banisilan National High School about the situation and what they can do to manage and reduce waste in the campus.

“One of the effects that littering causes is on the health of the citizens. They can get sick, or it will be the cause of their death in worst cases. So, to avoid this. We must throw away our garbage in the right place.

The sight of garbage in our school is very alarming. If we don't throw or segregate our garbage in the right container, we are going to pay for it sooner or later. We need to keep our environment clean so it will be pleasant to look at.”

Garbage must be put on the trash but unfortunately, a lot of people don't do this, instead they put their garbage somewhere. This simple incorrect garbage designation can cause harm to our mother earth and to ourselves, but we can solve this problem by simply collecting the garbage and put it in the proper place. We must care for and save our planet earth so that it can also care for us in return.

Juver Kim F. Lustan

Recycling materials instead of littering can save natural resources, landfill space, energy, clean air, and water. It is important to keep our community healthy and looking its best. In fact, this simple act of caring for our environment will not only benefit today s generation but also those in the future.”

Christofer Jamuel L. Piliin

The campus has become a sore sight to look at. Every time I enter the campus, I see garbage scattered everywhere. To avoid this kind of situation, first we need to discipline ourselves. Pick up and put the garbage in the right place. Additionally, creating signages like "Basura Mo, Sagot Mo" can also help to remind the community of their responsibility.

Althea Fhyr L. Arandia

The garbage inside and outside the campus is improperly disposed. It releases bad odor and creates a feeling of discomfort and disgust. That is why, it s important for us students to dispose our garbage properly for the sake of our own health and the environment as well.

Schools serve as crucial institutions where students not only acquire fundamental knowledge but also develop discipline essential for their growth. After two years of isolation, students are now reengaging in extracurricular activities, particularly sports, to showcase their skills. However, concerns over the academic performance of student-athletes have sparked widespread discussion, highlighting the need for effective support systems within our educationalinstitution.

Thelifeofastudent-athlete isa constant balancing act, requiring careful management of both academic responsibilities and athletic commitments. These individuals face unique challenges as they strive to excel in both areas, often under intense pressure and scrutiny. That is why, academic support for studentathletes is crucial and, in our case, the school amended the incentives for studentathletes and thus the existence of based grade. This amendment was realized in ensuring that student-athletes do not fall behind in their studies whilepursuing their athleticgoals.

However, this support can only do so much more for student-athletes if they understand that their participation in extracurricular activities, including sports, can enhance their overall profile and potentially add to their grades when utilized properly. Therefore, relying solely on these activities to compensate for academic shortcomings can be detrimental totheirlong-termeducationalgoals.

Undeniably, the pressure and stress of maintaining high performance in both academics and athletics can lead to exhaustion and impact their overall wellbeing. Thus, it’s crucial for educational institutionsandsportsprogramstoprovide adequate support systems aside from the based grade incentive. This can include

academic tutoring, time management skills training, and mental health resources, to efficiently help student-athletes thrive in bothdomains.

Furthermore, administrators and educators must recognize and appreciate the dedication and hard work of student-athletes. Aside from understanding their overwhelming situation, showing support and encouragement can go a long way in boosting their morale and helping them navigatethechallengestheyface.

Cryptocurrency represents a departure from the limitations of traditional currency transactions, which are often centralized and subject to fluctuations based on a country's size and economic standing. Unlike conventional currencies controlledby centralauthorities, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoinand Ethereum operate on decentralized networks secured by cryptography and blockchain technology. These digital currencies emerged in response to economic instability, offering a hedge against inflation and depreciation that affect fiat currencies.

by providing banking services to underserved populations worldwide and promoting cross-border transactions without currency fluctuations or tax implications.

Bitcoin, introduced in 2009 by the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, pioneered the useofblockchainfor peer-topeer transactions without intermediaries. This innovation has since spawned numerous other cryptocurrencies, each with unique features and purposes, from facilitating decentralized finance (DeFi) to enabling smart contracts and asset tokenization. Despite regulatory challenges and market volatility, cryptocurrencies continue to gain global acceptance, reshaping finance and technology landscapes.

The foundation of cryptocurrency lies in blockchain technology, a decentralized ledger that records transactions transparently across a network of computers. This transparency and security make cryptocurrencies resistant to fraud and manipulation, allowing for direct peer-to-peer transactions without third-party involvement.
