TrailMix!
Aquickandeasystudysnack
Finding a healthy, convenient, and most importantly, delicious study snack is simple. One must first consider the nutritional value of the treat and the effect it may have on the brain. For example, did you know that foods high in fibre, protein, and useful fats are a great way to fuel the body and mind, ensuring that you function to the best of your ability? Finding that perfect snack benefits in many ways, so this article seeks to inform you of one of the most delicious and healthy study snacks available to mankind- Trail Mix! To create this common snack, you must first know the ingredients.
Ancient Greeks believed that hazelnuts could cure severe coughing and baldness! Can you believe it? I'm sure that if that were the case, we’d be seeing a lot more hazelnuts around the house, especially because of our parents.
Trail Mix is primarily made of three ingredients: raw nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. Using raw nuts rather than roasted nuts is overall more beneficial because it provides the natural nutrients needed. Nuts that are bought pre-roasted are usually filled with denatured oils and excess sodium and should be avoided. The next ingredient to consider is seeds, they can be a little challenging in trail mix because, well, they are so small. Chia and flax seeds are too small to get a handful of, so skip them in your trail mix. Sunflower seeds are a much better alternative and offer a wider variety of antioxidants, vitamins, magnesium, and zinc; which are all important to brain development and keeping focus during study times. Just like nuts, raw or sprouted are best. Avoided roasted/salted seeds. Finally, the last and argumentatively, most important ingredient is dried fruit. A little sweetness is great in your trail mix, just be sure to buy unsweetened dried fruit and keep it limited. Going overboard with sweetened fruit negates the effects of all the other healthy attributes and may even bring on a sugar crash, which is the worse possible case for late-night studying. Additionally, a sprinkle of sea salt over your dried fruit works wonders for creating a delicious trail mix. In conclusion, trail mix is a sure-proof way to eat healthily and deliciously during study. Practicing good eating habits, even when at school, allows the brain to process and retain. So, consider trail mix next time you study. If not for the nutritional value, then for its ability to give you a full head of hair.

“Everynowandagain…Ithinktomyself, ‘Yeah,butyouknowwhat?Iinventedthe searchengine.”
-TheHuffingtonPost,2013
You’re all probably wondering, “Who on God’s green earth is Archie?” Well, let’s dive into the history of one of the original inventions within the field of computer science.
You may find that some sources acknowledge the first search engine as a software called Aliweb in 1992. To debunk this theory,webringforthArchie-created by one of our very own, Alan Emtage, two years prior. Alan Emtage was a Barbadian computer scientist and former alumnus of ourschool,HarrisonCollege(1975-1983)!He graduated at the top of his class and achieved a Barbadian Scholarship. After moving to Canada, he obtained both his bachelor's and master's in computer scienceatMcGillUniversity.
Theideasprungfromdesperationtomake life easier and more beneficial for students just like us. Whilst working at McGill University as a systems administrator, Emtage realized the stressful, and unpredictable nature of computer servers when trying to sort student resource files. Creativity struck and he began brainstormingwaystomakelivessimpler.
So, then I developed a set of scripts that would do that automatically for me in the middleofthenightwhennoonewasusing the link because that was the fastest timetogetthingsdone”
“
Emtage said in an interview with The Internet Society. The ‘set of scripts’ he refers to in this interview is now known as the ‘Archie’ we speak of in this article. Incredible! Could you imagine life without Google, the largest aid to students for homework, projects, assignments, andother importantaspectsofschoollife?
This shows that when we have a problem, especially with something we are passionate about, wecanfindasolutionthroughhard workandperseverance.

You know the kind, the jobs that make people cringe both silently and openly. But why are we cringing? Why should students have to feel ashamed if they want to pursue a more unconventional career? How satisfying is it tofollowthepathwhichothersdeemtobelessworthwhile?
In Barbados, career paths encouraged are traditionally doctors, lawyers, accountants and politicians, but in recent times students have been inspired to pursue and explore a plethora of different career paths. This could be as a result of moreandmoreschools, likeHarrisonCollege, offeringanddevelopingcoursesinArt, Music,WorkshopaswellasCodingandRobotics. However, unconventionalpathsstill remain a heavy burden for those who are expected to pursue traditional careers by cultural and societal views. Additionally, there is often a great deal of worry about securing a future. To illustrate, when asked if they would pursue nontraditional careers, one Harrisonian said they are hesitant and would prefer to pursue a career involving the sciences because of the security and stability rather than pursue a careerintheirsubjectofchoice(theatrearts).
