Student Opinions Student Opinions Yes
“YES! Because November is Independence time. We can’t celebrate Christmas in Independence time!”
Second Former “It’s too early because it’s a waste of electricity.”
Fourth Former
“Personally, I put my tree up on December 1st, but I don’t think it’s too early to put it up in November..”
Fourth Former
“I just have it up all year round”
Second Former* ”Yes because it dampens the spirit of Christmas if you put it up too early and you would probably get used to the lights by the time December comes along, which is the true time to be excited.”
Fifth Former
“Yes, it's too early! Christmas decorating should start from December 1st and no earlier (at least in Barbados). This is because November is the month of our Independence, the whole month leads up to Independence day! And decorating for christmas will take the attention away from a Day celebrated by EVERY Bajan, unlike Christmas, which many Bajans do not celebrate.”
Fifth Former
“For me, putting them up in November is a bit early because of our Independence. If it wasn’t in November I’d probably put them up early.”
Lower Sixther
“Honestly, in my opinion, putting up a Christmas tree in November is fine! It also depends on where you live. If you live in America it’s the norm but here in Barbados, people would find it weird.”
