Talking politics in the pub Driver charged after man killed near Tilpa

A driver has been charged after a man was struck and killed near Tilpa last week. Emergency services were called to Nelyambo Bridge Road, near Tilpa, at about 12.30am on Thursday following reports a man had been hit by a ute.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, a 38-year -old man, stopped and rendered first aid to the 29-year-old man.

The driver alerted NSW Ambulance paramedics and drove the injured man, meeting them on the Barrier Highway.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The driver was uninjured.

Officers attached to Central North Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Incumbent State Member for Barwon Roy Butler, was in Cobar on Monday chatting to locals about things that matter to them and what they’d like to see happening in Barwon. Subjects discussed included water security for the Murray Darling Basin, the need to upgrade the Cobar Fire Station, roads, health, National Parks and access to community transport for health care needs.

Following inquiries, the driver was later arrested at Cobar Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death –drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted conditional bail and is to appear before Cobar Local Court later this month.
