Symphony in the park Grants of $20,000 available for groups

Cobar community groups are being invited to apply for a share of $150,000 in funding under the latest round of the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP).

Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton is now taking expressions of interest (EOI) for Round 8 of the popular program, with grants of up to $20,000 available.

Grants ranging from $2,500 to $20,000 are available to cover up to 100 per cent of eligible project costs.

Organisations shortlisted by the committee after the expressions of interest process will then be invited to complete a formal online application.

Eligible organisations in the Parkes electorate can download an EOI form from Mr Coulton’s website at www.markcoulton.com.au www.cobarweekly.com.au

Further information including grant guidelines, eligibility requirements and the application process are available at https:// business.gov.au/grants-and-programs/strongercommunities-programme-round-8 Groups in need of assistance determining suitable projects, understanding the guidelines and guidance in applying, may contact Cobar Shire Council’s Grants Officer, Bethany Smith.

McKervey was the winner of The Cobar competition winning a copy of M. Dane’s latest book, ‘Max and the Haunted Hotel’. The author’s cousins, Cobar residents, Kasey Egan and Max McKenna (who the book was named after), presented Isla with her signed copy of the book last week. M. Dane challenged our readers to come up with a title for a book after posing this plot: What if a class was replaced by robots and the students had to outsmart them to take back their school? Eleven year old Isla’ s winning title was very clever, ‘Android Academy’.

• Well done to the Cobar Public School swimmers who competed at the Nyngbar Swimming Carnival last Thursday and to the 11 swimmers who have now progressed to the Western Schools Sports Association Carnival to be held in Dubbo next week.

• Former Cobar lawn bowler, Chris Rosanes has had more bowling success playing with his Club Pine Rivers Morton Bay Pirates triples team. They finished third in the Bowls Premier League championships in Moama over the weekend.

• ROAR (Rural Outback Animal Respite/ Rescue) have been running a fundraiser with an original painting by local artist Ann -Maree Johnson going up for auction. Jillian Prince was the successful bidder. Funds raised from the auction will help to pur- chase food and new water buckets for the animals in their care.

• We hear the Cobar Girls Guides are currently fundraising in a variety of creative ways by restoring furniture, offering photography sessions and holding a movie night, just to name a few. The Guides have a goal of raising $15,000 to concrete their fire pit area, put in a storage shed and purchase some camping gear.

• Local ladies have you checked your diaries for next week and it’s looking like a busy week? Then perhaps you need to clear it and re-book yourself for some (or all) of the WOW events Demi Smith and the Cobar Shire Council team have planned to celebrate the Week of Women (WOW). Mmm, the meditation sessions are looking like a good idea to us!
