Hobart Design Guidelines Checklist

A building and urban design handbook for designers, developers and the community September 2025

Checklist

Instructions

This checklist is to assist developers, project managers, their design teams, and anyone else with a role and interest in a well designed city, how to apply the Hobart Design Guidelines. It is a quick way of making sure all principles and design guidance are considered in projects and developments.

Community and professional priorities have been marked with ‘* ’.

A. Project design response

The checklist is to be read in conjunction with the Guidelines, as they provide a detailed explanation of the principles and the design guidance items. Not all principles and design guidance will be as relevant in a project or development. Likewise, the design response to the principles and guidance may vary depending on the type of project or development, the context in which it is located, the team involved, etc.

Please provide a short description of the project design, how it was developed, how it responds to Hobart’s context and what it can contribute to the future of the city. You can use the seven principles to guide your response.

B. Guidance response
