WHAT DOES 2020 SAY ABOUT THE REAL ESTATE MARKET

The El Paso real estate market thrived in 2019. Existing home sales increased, and a well-priced home didn’t last long on the market. If you bought or sold a home then you may have experienced a bidding war with multiple offers due to below-average interest rates and low inventory. Sellers have also benefited from low-interest rates as it has increased demand and home prices have gone up. If you are thinking of selling, this means less time on the market and more money in your pocket. For 2020, real estate professionals expect last year’s trend to continue. This means a continued increase in prices for both existing homes and new homes. If you’re considering selling, now is a good time to talk to a real estate agent. Let’s talk and I can give you the best information about how to proceed in your next real

hroughout the years the architecture of homes has changed dramatically. From exterior architecture to color schemes, the trends have changed. Today, the use of geometrical shapes have been apparent in modern homes. One El Paso home, by Pacifica Homes, keeps up with this modern trend while also keeping the warmth of a home that has been lived in for decades. Upon arriving to this home, you will notice that it is different than the ones surrounding it. It has both warm and cool tones, along with beautiful tall windows giving this home a welcoming feel. Walking up to the front door, you notice the beautifully stained concrete making this home especially unique to the neighborhood. The foyer has a contemporary light fixture with exposed light bulbs and an opening to a rich staircase. Next, is a living room that will make you want to kick your shoes off and relax. It is accented with exotic wood planks on both sides of the media area as well as a sleek wall-mounted fireplace. While all of that is amazing, the best part of this living room is the double sliding glass doors into the backyard, giving you an amazing view while relaxing. The kitchen is everything modern, from the clean countertops to the shelves enclosed in glass. It definitely provides a “wow” factor to this home. Above the island, are eye-catching pendant light fixtures that guests will fall in love with. The kitchen, with the dining room adjacent to it, has a very open feel making it extremely easy to socialize with guests. Walking up the stairs to the second level is a treat in itself. The way the stairs are designed is something unique, from the black wood banister to the thick wires in between them. The floor is a darker, rich color making the second story feel warmer and more comforting. Before going into the bedrooms is a beautiful loft with tall windows that overlook the front yard. The loft, equipped with built-in surround sound, is ample size and can be used as an extra living area. The master bedroom is a welcoming place to wake up to, with its beautiful mountain views and spa-like bathroom. The bathroom has a side-by-side spacious shower and tub, along with double sinks and trendy exotic wood-style cabinetry. Its neutral palette creates a calming environment to get ready in. This comfortable, transitional home is perfect for anyone who loves entertaining. There are so many details that make it stand out—from the light fixtures, to the two different floor colors and high-end finishes—there’s a lot to fall in love with.

here dwell two artists of many styles, who double

as collectors of antiques and curiosities of the past. Immediately upon pulling up to this spot, I see an abundance of desert plants and greenery. I step along the brick walkway and into the courtyard, where a grand aged tree, taller than I can photograph in one shot, greets me. There are brick step stones in the surrounding sand, and in the background, vines crawl the grey walls. Pale brick-art is carved into cats, and I know I’m not in Kansas anymore. With a sharp eye, I spot a metal bird and turtle somewhere, amongst the many outdoor trinkets. The patio is charming, and I wonder what awaits past the two lovely doors. As a lover of entryways, the front doors lined with glass square cutouts and metal handles, like two wizard staffs, delight me entirely. Through them into the living room, I spy a crimson floral rug and vibrantly painted portraits. I learn that the paintings adorning the walls are artistic replications of the homeowner’s family photos from the 1950s. Mexican folk-art figurines and vases sprinkle the

THE CITY SPACES HOME & DESIGN

ome things are meant to stand the test of time. More than 130 years after it was first built, the Warren House, as it’s known today, stands as a testament to the spirit of the old Southwest and the remarkable woman who called it home. Elizabeth Warren, nee von Wachenhusen, was born to Prussian immigrants in 1854 in Brooklyn. In her 20s she married Mr. Orange Scott Warren, and the couple traveled between coasts and lived in various parts of the U.S before settling in Silver City, New Mexico in 1882. On July 21, 1895, a wall of floodwaters ripped through the bonanza mining town of Silver City, New Mexico, leaving in its wake a trail of destruction and leveling most of the town’s home and businesses. Mr. Warren established the first insurance office in Silver City, which the couple operated from their home—a two-story, Italianate-style red brick house, that survived the devasting flood in 1895. When Mr. Warren died in 1885, the year their home was constructed on what was originally Main Street, Elizabeth took over the business, and expanded services to include fire, life, and plate-glass insurance. Additionally, she was the first female notary public in New Mexico Territory and the first New Mexico Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

IN - Recycle Chic

I am all about this reuse, reduce, recycle artwork that is rising to popularity this year. The increase in sales of home décor made from sustainable plastic, such as that cleared from the ocean, is phenomenal. A big plus is that most companies selling these items also donate to earth-friendly charities which give us something to feel good about when purchasing for our pad. A second recycle chic trend is thrifting. Searching for the best restorable pieces is eco-friendly and on the rise. People are racing to online shops like eBay for their one of a kind gently used items like quilts, shelves, and dishes.

IN - Farm Houses are still Trending

Don’t put your woven baskets and wooden boxes away just yet, google’s top searches for home décor was “farmhousestyle home” at the end of 2019. Wood benches, creamy tones, and mason jars; of course, we want more.

IN - Chartreuse

Now, this a trend I can get behind. This citrus delight is a color known for stirring up positive energy, unique perspective, and harmony. And what do ya know, Chartreuse also perfectly compliments Pantone’s color of the year 2020: classic blue.

IN - Feng Shui

Definitely not a new trend, but searches on Google are on the rise for how to create that perfect zen space. A part of this style is a single lucky bamboo plant in a designated room and indoor water fountains like zen gardens. The flowing fountain is calming and nurturing, just what we all need right now. Minimalism is another feng shui anecdote people are loving.

IN & OUT

Winter, 2020

THE CITY SPACES HOME & DESIGN

OUT - Single-use Spaces

Either square footage is lessening, or we just want to be extra mindful of the maximum capabilities of our area. Whichever it is, people don’t just want an office anymore; we want a yoga readyreading nook-workspace.

OUT - Excess

Is more no longer, more? Since when? 2020, I guess. People are very much heading in the direction of minimalism, oh what a bore. This year, we’re aiming for clean, fresh spaces. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with my usual sparkly, cluttery, and artsy homebiance while this trend stands, but I’ll try my best.

OUT - Flashy Neon Lights

That cute little cactus or love sign does take an excellent Instagram pic, but the jury is out, and this trend is over. It was a lovely time and all, I’ll even admit to having little bulbs of string lights myself (cousin to the neon light), but too much can create a sports bar ambiance, so it’s understandable why these glowing pieces are out. Sorry neon lovers, we are pulling the plug.

OUT - Fur Throws

A plummet in fur purchases is expected in 2020 because of more ethical and sustainable options like faux fur. Items like throws, pillows, blankets, and rugs will all be faux, for the sake of our animal friends and planet.

3

Beach Breezes and Sea Salt From candle scents to air fresheners, fall means embracing the warmth. Let’s try to break our summer fresh scent habit and aim for rich cranberry, romantic vanilla and yummy chocolate. You don’t have to obsess over pumpkin like the rest of the world, but colder seasons call for warmer aromas.

Interior Design Remodeling New Construction

Orange Speaking of pumpkins, orange is out. I say this with love and only because mustard yellow and rust are my faves for this fall. Smooth red-orange rust and burnt yellow elevate a space with sophistication, while keeping the warm tones of the changing leaves.
