Mourners pay tribute to ‘a man full of life’ by Eamonn McDermott
St. Eugene’s Cathedral was packed on Sunday morning for the funeral of broadcaster Gerry Anderson who died last week. The funeral mass was attended by broadcasters, journalists, BBC management and friends and family from across the city and beyond. The Derry native started his 30year career in the city, working as a radio presenter at Radio Foyle in 1984. He went on to become a household name across the North with his morning show on Radio Ulster. Up to 1000 mourners heard
from Father Paul Farren that Gerry Anderson had the ‘gift of joy.’ He said: “”We gather to give thanks to God for Gerry’s life and for all the gifts and joy and entertainment that so many people received through Gerry, especially those into whose lives he brought light and joy when light could be dim and joy hard to find.” “We gather to pray for Gerry - a man who knew who he was.” continued on pages 13 & 26
