Chamber Board Chairperson’s Report

Scott McMeans Chair

We are very blessed and fortunate to live in a community like Manitowoc County that has many options and resources for businesses, their employees, and for those visiting our region. The Chamber of Manitowoc County is one of those resources that you have chosen to support, so that together we can strengthen the community you rely on for your business and employees success. On behalf of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, I want to thank each of you for that support and the commitments you have given throughout 2022 and those you’re committing to in 2023. The Chamber will continue to work hard at giving you a positive return on your investment and time. As things have normalized over the last year, the Chamber’s Board of Directors has been able to re-engage into long term strategic planning to help guide the organization and staff in new programs and areas of focus; helping meet the changing needs of the members in a fast pace economy. With the hard work of Karen Nichols and all of her staff, these plans and programs can be executed for continued sustainability of the Chamber’s mission and vision to support our local business community.

The Award of Distinction is one of these many programs hosted by the Chamber that showcases the efforts by the businesses and its employees in our local communities. It is a moment in time that we can stop and thank all the nominees for what they do to serve the betterment of Manitowoc County. As I close out my final term with the Chamber, I look forward to leading a diverse and committed group of business leaders on the Chamber Board of Directors to serve you, our business community, the employees, and those visiting Manitowoc County. Scott McMeans

Chamber Treasurer’s Report The Chamber Staff and Board of Directors are proud to report that your Chamber of Manitowoc County had a strong 2022 recovering nicely from the lingering effects of the pandemic. The support of you, our loyal members, was integral to our collective success – thank you! 

Mark Maurer Treasurer

Our cash position remained strong and is growing. We maintained cash reserves greater than the 6 months of operating expenses required by our bylaws and we continued to operate free of any bank debt. Operationally your Chamber of Manitowoc County had a strong year. Total Income exceeded budget by 3.9%, Membership revenues were strong totaling 100% of budget while revenue from Chamber Bucks, the Chamber Annual Dinner, and the Chamber Golf Outing all exceeded budget. Expenses were closely monitored again this year coming under budget by 5.9%. This judicious expense control, coupled with the strong operations, resulted in a strong positive variance to our Net Ordinary Income. During 2023 the Chamber Board approved investing a portion of our excess funds with the Lakeshore Community Foundation. This investment, made through the Chamber of Manitowoc County Foundation, will help fund future Chamber initiatives.

Thank you again for your continued support! Mark Maurer
