LETTER FROM THE EDITORS

his is the time of year that really sucks to have a job. i mean, it’s cool to get paid, but it’s too nice to sit inside and waste away.

I know that my motorcycle is sitting outside with a half of a tank of gas and just enough tread on the tires to have a little fun. The weather is warm, there’s no need for layers on most days and everyone is hosting events, bike nights and rides... besides all the tasty roads there are to ride. Let’s Gooooo!

Ride For Autism

n Saturday, april 5th the SOS Care 7th annual Ride for Autism was held. For those that have not heard of or participated in this ride let me give you a little background on what this ride is about.

The proceeds of this ride are directly given to SOS Care Project Lifesaver Program, in partnership with the Horry County Police, Myrtle Beach Police & Fire, North Myrtle Beach Police and Conway Police. This program is a safety initiative helping individuals with cognitive conditions such as Autism, who are prone to wandering. Their primary mission is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition.

This ride has become such an important event in the community. It initially started with 50 bikes and since partnering with Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson and Harley Shop at the Beach a couple of years ago it has made this ride more successful, reaching more people in the community letting them know there is a “one of a kind” ride for Autism in their hometown. Saturday it reached an all time high of 400 bikes and participants.

The event began that day with beautiful sunny skies at the Harley Shop at the Beach in North Myrtle Beach and the ride would be a 25 mile ride from Harley to the Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet, SC. They had a coffee truck there as well as some good eats that were catered in to get everyone’s belly filled up and ready to ride. As the bikes were rolling in to register, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting a very fine

young man named Jake. When Jake was very young and was diagnosed with Autism, his Mom Michelle took care of him which led her to quit her “tech job” and go to nursing school and become a nurse. Once she graduated, she went out and bought her first Harley Davidson Sportster. She began riding Jake on the back of her bike to school when he was about 12. He fell in love with motorcycles so much that as he grew big ger, she had to trade the sportster in and get a Softail. If Jake had his way, he’d own his own Harley and ride himself but unfortunately due to his medical issues he cannot. However, he is fine riding behind Michelle and experiencing the wind in his face, LOL. Jake is now 23 years old and has been attending SOS Care since around 2020. SOS has helped him with skills such as cooking, life skills and social skills. He is now high functioning with his Autism and Michelle says she feels good that he can be at home when not at SOS and she doesn’t have

to worry about him wandering or worse yet hurting himself.

Just think of all the other individuals that this ride has been and will continue to help in the future. Because of your generosity the ride raised over $7000. This money will help to purchase more Project Lifesaver bracelets and supplies for those who wander in Horry County with disabilities such as Autism, Alzheimers, and Dementia and other intellectual disabilities. These bracelets are critical in reducing the response time in searching for wanderers from days to hours, to 30 minutes or less. They are a radio frequency wrist or ankle bracelet that emits an individualized signal. If an enrolled client goes missing, the caregiver calls 911 and highly trained Project Lifesaver agencies will respond. The cost for the bracelet, batteries and supplies for a one-year kit is $360 and supplies for continued uninterrupted services cost $150/year. The service is provided to the enrolled individuals for free, so you can see that all of the donations received are necessary to continue this service.

SOS Care is very grateful for the support from Harley-Davidson, the riders, The Beaver Bar, the sponsors and volunteers who helped make this their biggest event yet. We are all looking forward to the 8th Annual Ride next April 2026. Let’s make that one even bigger than this one. For more information on Project Lifesaver please visit their website at Projectlifesaver.org and as always, keep an eye on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Event Calendar for more events like this. On that note, remember to keep the wind in your hair and ride safe!!

Tilley Harley-Davidson Spring Opener

harley-davidSOn, StateSville, nC, kiCked Off spring with a few parties and rides. It was a great day for enjoying two wheels when I stopped by Tilley’s for the Ready, Set, Ride – Spring Opener Party.

Saw lots of folks there checking out new bikes and jammin’ to the band. Zeveride was rockin the porch. Guardians of the Children was set up promoting their upcoming ride. The Wheelie Wizzard, Tyler Shepard, and his son were putting on a stunt show. The Big Flag was waving for great photos of Bikers at the Harley Shop.

I saw a few folks from our riding group that I ain’t seen in a while. Derek Tilley was out front chatting with the crowd and telling us about the upcoming Kyle Petty Ride.

“Thanks to all of our customers for making the Tilley’s Saint Patty’s Day Bash and our Sunday Fun Day an amazing success,” Derek said. “We are truly grateful for the overwhelming support. Our team will continue to help our local charities, and we look forward to creating new partnerships this summer.”

“Coming up in May and June we’ll have bike nights in Mooresville, Salisbury and our very own here at Tilley HarleyDavidson in Statesville. We will be hosting a Don Tilley Dice Run. The very next month we will be hosting Riki Rachtman’s charity ride to benefit his 988 suicide prevention hotline.”

“We hope you can join us at Tilley’s this summer and take part in our festivities all while making an impact in our community. Thanks again,” Derek Tilley.

Dawg & Captain K’s RIDE

here iS SOO muCh that COuld be Said abOut legaCieS. So many stories that could be told but it would never fit in this article. So, I’ll give you a little back story to “Dawg.” I met him in 2016 and found that if you ever needed anyone, he was there for you. He was the brother who would call or text daily to check on you just because. He was a happy soul, who always wore a smile even in his toughest times. He was a cancer survivor. Unfortunately, he had a trach as a result but never let that stop him. Despite what the doctors said he sang again in that raspy voice that we all remember. The song was “Almost Home” which resonates in my head still to this day. He was that brother you loved to be around. And he never turned down a chance to twist the throttle when it came to outrunning “Magic.”

Now, I never actually met “Captain K.” I knew of him and where his heart was. He was a member of the CBA. He supported anything that dealt with helping kids. He loved going on the Click Baldwin ride which supported Webb Street School (a school for children with special needs). He owned a purple Harley-Davidson Fatboy named Pearl. Which is why when we do this ride many people wear purple in memory of him. He coined the phrase, “Belmont Baby,” which has become of the more memorable quotes me and my closest brother “Baby Boy” say to each other when we think of him. You’ll come to find out this group is big on singing karaoke songs. And one of “Captain K’s” song was, “Sitting on the Dock of a Bay.” Oddly enough that’s the one I sing. It was only later I found out that he used to sing that song as well. Every year since 2021, we do a memorial ride for them. We go to the places that they liked. We eat the food that they liked and of course we toast a drink to them. We started off the ride at Winner’s Circle in Gastonia, NC. The morning was cool as I wore my hoody under my vest on the way. When “Cuzz”

and I arrived at WC, there were already many bikes lined up. Many of them were GOC members that knew “Dawg” and “Captain K.”

Dawg’s son Brendon arrived as I was counting the number of bikes that had already arrived. I’d been chatting with him a little before the ride. He completely rebuilt “Dawg’s” bike for those of you who don’t know. Each year he does something a little extra to it. Watching it go from a wrecked bike to a roller was amazing to start off. This year he dropped in an S&S 475 cam. Everyone that has ever owned an M8 knows that they have a lot to be desired in the cam department from the factory. When I say this M8 thumps, this thing sounds downright nasty. It’s exactly how a Harley should sound with that raspiness on the rev and the chop from a higher lift cam profile.

“Cuzz” did our safety brief, spoke about our fallen brothers. We prayed and saddled up. The total count leaving WC was a little over 50 bikes. We took a wonderful ride to Lake Wylie and ate lunch at Christopher’s Bar and Grill. They really stepped up their game and made sure we all had food in a timely manner.

Our ride then led us back to Belmont to another of our brothers’ favorite spots called Tony’s Bar. It’s a little hole in the wall beside the Catawba River. On the inside, you’ll find that everyone signs a dollar bill to be placed on the ceiling. There’s a couple of pool tables in the middle and looking around you’ll see “Captain K’s” picture residing in a small LED lit shadow box for everyone to see. And another unique thing about this bar is that it has an ’86 FXR on top of the building. It even has working lights on it still which can be seen dimly lit at night.

We left from there and visited the Southern Gentlemen’s Clubhouse. One of Dawgs favorite spots where he could just let loose and relax. We reminisced there for a short while. And then we headed to the end of the ride which was The Rock Lodge in Lincolnton. We all had a bologna dinner in honor of “Dawg”. Now if you didn’t know, he liked it fried but flipped once. And that’s exactly how I had mine.

We finished the night telling stories about each of them and singing their favorite songs. I personally sat there just taking it all in. Remembering the times I spent with our brothers. “Cuzz” and “Magic” sang Seven Spanish Angels together. “Magic” sang “Dawg’s” part mimicking the raspiness of “Dawg’s” voice. For a moment, you could’ve heard “Dawg”. I look back at my photos of “Dawg.” I’m glad I took so many of us. I hold those photos dear to myself much like many others around here that miss him and “Captain K.” These 4 men listed in this paragraph were close brothers. Although that circle of brothers is smaller, the legacies carried on by the ones still here is a true testament of bond they shared.

OtOrSpOrtS mOgul CarSOn baker made the leap from multi brand motorcycle stores to Harley-Davidson dealership last year with the purchase of Shelton’s Harley-Davidson which he rebranded to Bulldog Harley-Davidson in Smithfield, NC. He put together such a stout team and the dealership kicked so much ass that Carson decided it was time to expand. This time he rebranded the Rock Hill, SC dealership to Dog House Harley-Davidson and moved his Bulldog GM, Justin Matis and his ace marketing manager, Marlee to bring the newly acquired dealership up to speed. It wasn’t long before Doghouse was rockin’ n rollin’ and it was time formerly celebrate the new dealership.

The team at Dog House Harley-Davidson weren’t able to just have a grand re-opening party, no no, they proceeded to plan an all out, no holds barred, full tilt, four day grand re-opening bash! It was like the first time your parents went out of town, left you unsupervised and you just couldn’t help but to party the entire weekend away. Lemme tell you this too, Rock Hill, SC was ready to party. This bash started out with vendors, the Bulldog Babes slinging beer and good times on Thursday with a good old fashioned bike night, rolled the party straight through to Friday night with a weekend kick off party. Saturday was really the main event and the party lasted alllllllllll day long. The lot was lined with vendors like Wretched Motor Clothing, Ray Spencer’s Universal Customs Pinstriping, Carolinas’ Biker Lawyers, Reinhart Racing, Law Tigers and more. Including knife vendors, powder coaters, jewelry and more! There was also brews on tap and some killer food trucks.

By noon the parking lot was filling up with bikers who were ready to let loose. Ryan Lanier and Crashtina Billings had the back portion of the parking lot blocked off for 3 killer motor cycle stunt shows. Starting at noon they were smoking tires, riding 12’oclock wheelies and having all kinds of fun. Kids and adults alike were hanging on the fence getting some front row motorcycle entertainment. Each show ended in flames. The stunt team crew dumped out a stripe of gasoline and Ryan, riding a wheelie, lit it on fire by throwing sparks as he scrapes the rear fender going past the gas. Naturally these dare devils run through the fire a couple times doing tricks. The crowd was eating it up. In between stunt shows, Dog House HarleyDavidson had a killer line up of metal bands playing on a huge professional sound stage. Mintues Past Midnight started off the day and was followed by Forever May Fall and Strike The Tower. These bands were killing it and it was just the right atmosphere for a biker party.

Did I mention the Dog House Divas yet? Knowing just what bikers want, Dog House Harley-Davidson makes sure they have some bikini wearing babes serving up ice cold drinks at their events. They had a revolving staff of Divas that kept the guys thirsty all day long. I swear these ladies had a stead line of folks and the only people working harder were the bar backs that were keeping the beer tubs full. Across the way from the beer tubs the bikini bike wash gals were sudsing up bikes all day long. I saw some suspiciously clean bikes roll in there for a washin’, but I don’t blame em, there was some quality entertainment going over there!

Inside the dealership was hoping too. Dog House HarleyDavidson lucked out and had a beautiful bit of weather for the weekend, so some folks were ducking inside to get cooled down, others were in there seeking their dream bike. There

The Carolinas’

Throttle Magazine

was a floor full of 2025 Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the sales team were pulling out all the stops. The team at Doghouse sold 33 Harley-Davidson motorcycles during the event! No worries though, I know they can hook you up with the Harley you are looking for too!

I expect these events to wind down at some point, but as the day wore on the crowd kept getting bigger and bigger. As the sun went down the anticipation grew because this epic party was far from over. The ace in the sleeve that Dog House had was a FREE admission SALIVA concert. Saliva first hit the scene in the late 90’s and put out over 10 albums and have some wildly popular songs like “Always”, “Your Disease” and “Click Click Boom”. The area in front of the stage was absolutely packed when Saliva took the stage and proceeded to melt everyones face off. No doubt it was the biggest party that Rock Hill has seen in a while.

Somehow the staff at Dog House Harley-Davidson returned on Sunday for the final day of the Grand Re-Opening bash. It was a real hangover party to finish off the weekend! I’m sure plenty of folks were hitting up the Coffee Truck and talking about the epic party from Saturday. Southern Rock Revue had the stage to themselves on Sunday and brought the party home while folks checked out the vendors and the Red Tag Sale that was still going.

I tell you what, when Dog House Harley-Davidson says they are going to have a party, they mean it. They have kicked off their bike night season with ride in events every 2nd Thursday Of The Month and are hosting weekend parties as well. We’ve jumped on the band wagon as well and collaborated with Dog House Harley-Davidson to put on a Full Throttle Bike Show on July 19. It’s gonna be a crazy summer yall! Make sure to keep your eye on the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for upcoming dates. There is NO excuse to delay heading to Rock Hill, SC and checking out this reinvigorated Harley-Davidson Dealership.

Memorial Day

n may we Celebrate memOrial day On the final Monday of the month. For most people this is a 3-day weekend unofficially kicking off the summer season. The places where we go to enjoy ourselves and the roads will all be busy.

We are blessed to live in America where we have the freedom to travel freely to the destination of our choice at the time of our choosing as well. The freedoms we often take for granted come at an incredibly high price. Since 1775 we have lost 1.19 million members of our military. 651,000 died as a result of combat with 539,000 dying from other causes.

During my military service I witnessed people hurt and die on American soil far from combat operations. The normal training and regular duties or our military have an element of danger on a daily basis. The death of those from other causes is just as honorable and sad as those who died in active combat.

Memorial Day is the day we pay our respects to those who died in military service. The saying goes like this “All gave some, some gave all.” On this day we pay our respects to those who gave all. In November we will honor our veterans and active-duty military on Veteran’s Day. This is the day we honor those who so far gave some but not all.

It is always appreciated and appropriate to thank veterans

for their service. On this day don’t be surprised if they make it a point to direct the recognition to those who paid the ultimate price. There has always been people in the world opposed to freedom and taking our freedoms is the ultimate goal of our enemies.

Today I want to remind us all of the statement we hear frequently on this holiday. Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you. Jesus Christ and the American soldier. One died for your soul and the other died for your freedom.

The bible has a great deal to say concerning love and sacrifice and how it has impacted us and how we are to share our blessings with others. I’m going to share just a couple here.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

As we enjoy our extended weekend with the arrival of warmer weather, I want to encourage everyone to recognize the sacrifices made on our behalf. There will be ceremonies at veteran’s cemeteries and other locations across the nation on Monday, May 26th. Give up an hour to pay your respects and it may very well become a regular part of your Memorial Day celebration.

We just celebrated Easter a few short days ago. Jesus’ love and sacrifice for us is the example of how we are to treat each other. Jesus loves that person we may not be too fond of as much as he loves you.

Blessings, Floyd

Guardians Of The Children Awareness Ride

n Saturday, april 5th, the gaStOnia Chapter Of the Guardians of the Children (GOC) held their Child Abuse Prevention & Awareness (CAPA) Ride from the Full Throttle Motorsports in Gastonia. The mission of the GOC is to recognize and react to child abuse and educate the public to do the same, to serve as advocates to provide strength and stability to families in crisis; and be an answer to the prayer of an abused child or teen for courage, support, and protection. “Don’t Let Your Silence Drown Out Their Cries”.

The GOC is not just one individual force fighting against child abuse. It is a brotherhood of motorcycle enthusiasts banded together for the same cause - our children. Their mission is to send a clear message to all who would abuse children that they are prepared to protect these children through their physical and emotional support.

The Gastonia Chapter of GOC was chartered in November 2010 by a group of bikers who saw the need to assist and educate the community to the effects of child abuse. It is only one of the many chapters throughout the USA, and Canada.

Registration began at 9:00AM, and the first group was scheduled to leave at 11:00AM with the last bike in before 4:00PM. There were five scheduled stops along the way to roll the dice. The first was at Full Throttle dealership, the second was at Johnny’s Mexican in Lincolnton, NC, the third stop was at Redbone Willy’s in Vale, NC, the fourth stop was at American Legion in Kings Mountain. Then it ended at Double Barrel Saloon in Gastonia with prizes for best and worst hand, a 50/50 drawing, raffle prizes, and food for the participants.

Saturday’s weather was fabulous with temps in the upper 80’s. It was unusual for the beginning of April, but we’ll take it and enjoy the heck out of it!

I arrived at Full Throttle at 10:00AM and backed into park

with the other bikes. The first person I saw was “Rooster” and he was taking a picture of me. We talked for a while until he was called away.

I walked to the registration table, placed a stack of magazines on the table, and gave my donation. All the money raised during this run would be used to further the mission of the Gastonia Chapter of the Guardians of the Children.

After a while, we were all called into the dealership for a meeting. “Pappy”, the chapter president wanted to make sure that everybody knew the hand signals. There was a big crowd

this year (65 bikes) because of the weather, and he didn’t want any mishaps along the route. The Gastonia police would only lead the group for the first section of the run. The road-guards would be responsible for the entire group to stay together for all the stops.

Inside the dealership, there were two leather easy chairs on one side. I walked over to them because it was a good place to see the meeting. There was a young lady sitting in one, and she offered the seat to me. I refused because chivalry is old but it’s not dead. Later, when she got up to go with the roadguards, I sat down.

After the prayer at the end of the meeting, we all went outside. I saw the young lady again and learned that her name was “Free Spirit”. She was one of the road-guards who block traffic so the group could ride together through the intersections. That’s a very dangerous job for a young lady. I heard that she is fearless and blocks off traffic with the best of them.

I went around back to take pictures as they left. At about 11:00, they all left with a roar. Soon it was quiet again, and they were gone on their way to Johnny’s Mexican in Lincolnton. This ride turned out to be very profitable when it raised $3,300 for the cause.

They hold the CAPA ride a couple times a year. They stand for a great cause, and we need more people to stand against child abuse.

Spring S-T-U-N-T & Bike Show Brings Thunder To Pinehurst

Presented by ManTech | Hosted by Cox’s Double Eagle Harley-Davidson & ClubstyleNC

anthony azeVedo, 494diGital

n saturday, march 29, cox’s double eagle Harley-Davidson in Pinehurst, NC roared to life as it hosted the inaugural Spring S-T-U-NT & Bike Show, a high-octane collaboration with ClubstyleNC and proudly presented by ManTech. The event drew an estimated 700 to 1,000 attendees throughout the day, packing the dealership with riders, families, and fans of the lifestyle. Riders and enthusiasts came from across the country, including Tennessee, New Jersey, Florida, and beyond, to take part in what became one of the dealership’s largest events to date. From start to finish, the day was packed with heart-pounding action, head-turning custom bikes, and a powerful purpose, all in support of the Coast x Coast Foundation. This nonprofit organization honors fallen members of the Special Operations Forces community and works directly with veterans, providing support for those struggling with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and other service-connected challenges. While the event helped raise over $2,600 for the cause, the bigger win was the visibility and connection it brought to the organization’s mission.

The main event, a jaw-dropping S-T-U-N-T competition in the style of the game H-O-R-S-E, left crowds in awe as elite stunt riders took turns executing increasingly complex maneuvers, pushing both their bikes and bodies to the limit. It wasn’t just about flashy tricks - it was about mastery, creativity, and control. At the end of the contest, Caden Hill (@poppaclutchkid) from Tennessee earned first place honors, followed by Joe Silva (@trailerparkjoe) in second and Will Masten (@ masten_219) in third. Each received well-deserved respect, thunderous applause from the crowd, and a share of $2,000 in cash prizes.

Earlier in the day, custom motorcycles of all styles rolled into the lot for the Spring Bike Show. Once the smoke cleared, guests shifted their attention to the rows of machines lining the dealership grounds. Categories like Best Bagger, Best Cruiser, People’s Choice, and Most Clapped showcased the creativity and passion that define the motorcycle community. Registration opened at 11:00 AM under the ClubstyleNC tent

positioned at the dealership entrance, and the show featured an impressive variety of builds: baggers, Dynas, FXRs, choppers, and one-off customs; all competing for handcrafted trophies created by the ClubstyleNC team. Judging and awards followed the stunt show and a round of closing remarks, giving builders the spotlight they deserved.

Throughout the event, guests explored a buzzing Vendor Village that delivered more than just great shopping, it created a full sensory experience. From smash burgers and street tacos to craft beer and coffee, the vendor lineup kept the crowd energized and engaged. The day wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our title sponsor ManTech and the extensive vendor village that brought the event to life. Local favorites like Hatchet Brewing, El Rolas, DT Coffee Co., and ThiccBurger joined lifestyle and moto brands like Rebel Spirit, Wretched Clothing, Sent Moto Co., ClubstyleNC, and Deathwish. Vendors such as Veteran’s Guardian, Dynamic Customs, The Powder Queen, In My Mind Designs, and Carolinas’ Biker Lawyers added to the vibrant atmosphere.

The energy stayed high from morning until the final raffle, fueled by a perfect mix of two-wheeled entertainment and community spirit. The teamwork between Cox’s Double Eagle Harley-Davidson, ClubstyleNC, and the Coast x Coast Foundation set the tone for what many hope will become an annual tradition in the region.

As for the next one? Fans should stay tuned for more events throughout the riding season, with key happenings already be-

ing planned for June and September. And if the buzz from this event is any indication, it’s safe to say the Spring S-T-U-N-T & Bike Show has carved out its place on the calendar, just the beginning of something truly special.

For more details on upcoming events, follow @doubleeaglehd or visit doubleeagleharley.com. Ride with us. Support your local dealers. And keep the throttle wide open. Cox’s Double Eagle Harley-Davidson continues to be more than a dealership, we’re a hub for local riders, events, and causes that matter. Whether it’s your first bike or your tenth, whether you’re into stunt shows or Sunday cruises; we invite you to stop by, grab a coffee, and see what’s going on. You might just catch your next adventure waiting in the lot.

DALE’S WHEELS THROUGH TIME Opening Weekend

inCe itS Opening in maggie valley, NC on July 4th, 2002, Dale’s Wheels Through Time has been a destination for motorcycle lovers from all over the world. The Museum features one of the world’s premier collections of Vintage American Transportation, guiding visitors through the evolution of American motorcycling and automotive history. Some 300 Vintage and Antique American motorcycles, most of them run are on display at Wheels Through Time. Not only motorcycles but memorabilia too, new paper clippings, motorcycle toys, race uniforms, programs, vintage motorcycle apparel and so much more will keep you busy trying to see it all for hours or maybe days if you have the time. The “Museum That Runs” is open from April through November each year, shutting down in the winter to work on new displays and make Improvements for the next year.

Every year we make at least one trip, a pilgrimage if you will, to Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum. Opening weekend for 2025 was April 3-5 and Mom (Molly) and I made our way up to Maggie Valley to be a part of the festivities. Mom and Dad (Mark) are lifetime donors at Wheels Through Time and have known the Walkslers for many years. But know them or not, Matt Walksler and the crew at Wheels Through Time go out of their way to make sure everyone feels like family while you are at the museum. I swear the staff at WTT can tell you about each and every motorcycle on the floor. Where it came from, who owned it, how many were made, what history was made on the motorcycle, and they just may start it up for you. Mom and I wondered around through the

museum visiting some of our favorite bikes and checking out the newly acquired ones like 1920 Harley-Davidson Model J and an incredibly rare 1915 Eagle that were displayed in a two up display freshly built for the 2025 season.

One of the coolest displays is the hillclimb exhibit and this year Matt had a newly acquired antique methane burning hill climber that he rolled outside to start for the crowd. Matt gave a ton of detail on the bike’s origin and history, before filling the tank with methane and going through the starting routine. Generally speaking, Matt gets ‘em going pretty easy, but a crowd had gathered, and that old flathead gave Matt a workout! With a few adjustments the bike roared to life, and it was awesome!

Every year the museum raffles off an awesome antique motorcycle as one of the main revenue sources and for the 23rd raffle bike, the WTT crew has offered up a stunning 1939 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead. Finished in year-correct HD Factory Teak Red and Brilliant Black, with stainless steel and

chrome accents. The 61c.i. OHV Knucklehead powerhouse sports a genuine 4-speed transmission, art deco styling with full fenders, iconic “cat-eye” dash, and 120 mph speedo. Plus, a list of nearly impossible-to-find parts too numerous to mention. The machine was meticulously restored to showroom condition in the WTT Restoration shop and runs as good as it looks. It is ready to go home with one lucky winner this 2025! Tickets start at just $10 and you’d be crazy to not buy at least one! The bike will be given away in November on the last day of the 2025 season.

If you love motorcycles, you owe it to yourself to visit Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC. If you’ve been in the past, you know that it was awesome, and you need to get back up there. It definitely makes for a great weekend to ride up to the mountains, ride those back roads, take in the museum and enjoy some of the best that NC has to offer.

Spring Social & Shopping At The Charlotte CBA Swap Meet & Bike Show

t sure was good seeing y’all at the cba swap Meet as Winter faded away. Yeah, I had a shopping list, but the Swap Meet is like a Spring Social for Cacalackie Bikers.

Soon as the gate opens, us guys looking for certain things are there and on the hunt. Jim Blair is working on my Old Guy Bike, a 1979 Super Glide, and we need some Shovelhead parts. Didn’t find many I could use but learned from sellers as I was picking through their stuff. “Hey, what’s in the boxes over there that you ain’t put out yet?”

I suggest walking the vendors in both directions, so you don’t miss things. On that second pass is when I find the new things I can use to make one of the bikes look or work better. Check out the cool stuff you don’t need but just gotta ask about.

The CBA Swap Meet is also a place of dreams. Talk with your buddies about what y’all could build from that frame or engine for sale cheap. I saw a frame neck with VIN plate as a “project bike.” Had to ask, “Do you have a title?” I could build a total custom bike from those pieces of metal and paper.

I’m glad to see Young Bikers at the Swap Meet. Some ain’t just buying swag either. Young Folks go to the Rowan County Fairgrounds looking for that old Sportster gas tank for the cool bobber they are building. I ask about their dreams for the frame, engine, wheels, tins and parts they are hauling to the truck. Someday, those folks will be parking the machines they built from swap meet parts out front.

After serious parts hunting, I make a pass through the other vendors. The Charlotte CBA Swap Meet has much more than parts. There were vendors for all kinds of things Bikers need.

This was the place for leathers, helmets, gloves and glasses and more. Think of the Swap Meet as a Biker Mall. One place with products you ain’t gonna find in Wally World.

Inside were the bikes for the show. A few popped out to me with cool paint or just the right look. Fifty years of Harleys and now I dig seeing real cherry old Jap Bikes. Those little two strokes and commuter and dirt bikes that we used up and scrapped long ago sure were fun. Listen to old guys tell stories about hot rodding and crashing those little bikes.

It’s the Spring Social part I really like about the swap meet. Listening to stories. Lots of folks come to the Swap Meet to see friends. Get handshakes and hugs from folks you ain’t seen lately. It was the first Saturday of spring and a nice day to ride.

I see folks I know who enjoy motorcycles in different ways. Of course, the Antique Motorcycle Club guys are there, for the weekend. They have a nice place to hang out and lots of parts for sale. Drag racing buddies also have cool new motorcycles and old bikes that need something. The custom show bike

builders are poking around in boxes for something that can be cut down and made into …. whatever their creative minds imagine.

Time goes by quick at the Swap Meet. Things you want to see and folks you want to hang out with. Grab lunch and a cold drink. There were a few folks selling lunch from simple and quick on a stick to give me some of that barbeque and fries. Sit down and talk for a while. Energized so make one more lap around outside and take time to hang out with some vendors. Lambo Lady Kristin told me about the Carolina

Biker Lawyers Bulldog Ticket Give Away. Somebody is gonna win tickets to see Metallica in Charlotte.

By the afternoon the entertainment starts. I checked out the band for a bit soon after they cranked up the tunes. I was tired and achy late in the day so sat back and talked with friends while the rest of y’all got into the afternoon party. I hope there were some cool beards and tattoos in the contests. I’m sure y’all, ladies and dudes, enjoyed another Wet T-Shirt Contest. Some of us were just chilling in the background. Talking about how long we have enjoyed the Spring Social at the Charlotte CBA Swap Meet.

I don’t do many selfie photos, but I had to get me and Rick Nail together. I thought about asking him for some stories of the many years he has managed the Swap Meet. But when Rick is walking around there, other folks gather to get a minute with him. I let him go, for more handshakes and hugs and selfies with other Old Bikers. Rick was enjoying the Spring Social.

I look forward to the Fall Swap Meet November 8-9 and hearing about the cool places y’all rode this summer.

Boone MotorCo First Anniversary Event

Ony “bOOne” fiSher haS Served the mOtOrCyCle community for the last 9 years. He is highly regarded in the Raleigh/Durham area. Late 2023 Boone decided it was time to open his own motorcycle shop, and Boone MotorCo opened in April 2024. This year BMC threw a party for their one-year anniversary.

The event officially started at noon. I arrived around 11:30 and the parking lot was starting to fill up. Once the Carolinas’ Full Throttle canopy was up, I went to check the menus at the food trucks. Several vendors were around the tree lined perimeter of the property. They had you covered with everything from motorcycle accessories, jewelry, crafts, insurance, pin striping and graphics, even home AC and cigars.

Soon Miss Mini and the Sandman Band had folks dancing to their high-powered music. Tar Banks Brewing from Louisburg had you covered if you wanted an adult beverage. Hayden’s Lunch Box, Hale Yeah Kitchen and Lumpy’s Ice Cream were taking care of any hunger pains. I decided to try the brisket chili which turned out to be a great choice. I also grabbed a beer from Tar Banks.

Even though the temperature was on the cool side, and the skies were overcast, the bikes kept rolling in and out all afternoon. I was able to shoot the breeze with several old friends. If you are looking for a new (to you) bike, accessories, maintenance on your current bike, or just some BMC swag be sure to stop by. You can find BMC at 3021 US-1, Franklinton, NC, Boone MotorCo on Facebook, #askboone, or their website boonemotorco.com. Be sure to check the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for upcoming events at BMC.

Frog Level Chopper Challenge

he bOyS Over at frOg level juSt gOt dOne Celebrating their 50th Anniversary in February. They kicked off their 51st year by throwing a first time event, the Frog Level Motorcycle Run and Chopper Challenge. They have been talking about hosting a good old school type event for a while and decided to put chopper jockeys to the test. Schemes were schemed and plans were planned, and April 12-13 was to be the day for this 200-mile ride from Evel Twins Motorcycle parts in Winston-Salem to the Frog Level club house in Ayden, NC. Naturally all bikes can join and make the ride, because that’s what it’s all about, riding, but the Challenge was reserved for any hardtail or strutted bike.

They had me at chopper challenge and I’d been looking forward to this ride for months. Any opportunity to ride the 1951 Panhead Chopper gets me going and an event designed around long distance chopper riding?!?! Oh yeah, I’m in. I was even more excited when the weather turned warm, and we had two 80 degree weekends in a row. Naturally, North Carolina weather then turned to a balmy 50 degrees for the Chopper Challenge weekend. It really wasn’t bad, but I would have rather it had been 80! When I imagine chopper shit, it’s always short sleeve riding weather, but oh well. I layered up a little and headed over to Evel Twins Motorcycle Parts at the crack of dawn (8:30am) to go meet up with the other chopper jockeys.

The Frog Level boys were still drying out from their ride from Ayden to Winston the day before. They definitely got the wet end of the stick. The entire 200 mile ride they made to the starting point was in heavy rain. But…that’s what makes this a challenge. 50 degrees and dry isn’t so bad after all, eh? The Law Tigers were set up at Evel Twins making sure that everyone was well taken care of before the event and the parking lot was full of choppers. Evo sporty choppers, shovelhead choppers, and my old pan were hanging out. There

was a cool old FXR and a couple modern bikes as well. Puput of JavaSky Motorcycles rode his panhead chopper over to see us off as well. Everyone was talking shit, tightening bolts and checking that their packs were well secured for the ride. Frog Level President, Farm Boy had some ignition problems on his shovelhead chopper and spent the morning fixing it up.

The rules were as follows: There are no rules. Whoever arrives at the Frog Level clubhouse first wins. Good enough, right? Swamp Critter, Frog Level VP, handed out event shirts, and the chase vehicle that Juke Box was driving, then gave us some inspiration before we lined up for the shotgun start. We were all saddling up, ready for a day of choppering across the state. That’s when the fun begins. Farm Boy walked up to the group holding the kicker for his shovelhead….it had completely snapped off when he attempted to start the bike. Back on the trailer it went. It just wasn’t meant to be for Farm Boy on this weekend. We lined up at the apron of the road and the group split. The Evo’s and other modernish motorcycles went right towards the highway and Angel, Rob and I on vintage bikes went left towards the backroad route.

Now I can only speculate to how their ride went, probably seamlessly seeing as they beat us to the club house by a few hours. I can tell you that Angel, Rob and I put the Challenge in Chopper Challenge. We made it a handful of miles before shit started falling off. Thank God Angel packed 40lbs of tools. Seriously, if we needed to field strip an engine, we could have done it with the tools he brought. Luckily, all we had

to do was put Rob’s shifter back on and we were back on the road. We cut through the county til we got to 62 and headed towards Alamance. Angel has a 50 mile peanut tank on his shovelhead so we were planning on four gas stops on the trip but FFS, I don’t think we made one 50 mile leg. This is the fun of old motorcycles and choppers, some trips are seamless and easy, others shit just goes wrong. This was a day for the latter. We made a handful of stops for various reasons, tail lights falling off, Rob’s shifter again and then about 70 miles in Rob’s shovelhead started running rough. The fun part was that I was in the lead, but I don’t have any rearview mirrors, so I had to constantly look over my shoulder to make sure they were still there. A few times I looked back and they weren’t behind me anymore and I’d have to turn around and go back to look for them. Luckily, they were never more than a mile or so behind, using Angels tools to get Rob’s shovel going again. Soon enough Angel and I’s bikes started feeling sympathetic to Rob’s bike and developed their own quirks. Angel’s headlight bolt sheared off and when we stopped for gas the damn thing came flying off the front of his bike and shattered on the ground. Then in Coats, NC (it’s not near anything) my panhead decided to give me a workout. My one kick, kickstart only bike, just didn’t want to start back up after we got gas. Angel and Rob relaxed and watched as I jumped up and down on that thing for 15 minutes before it finally fired up. Still, we were having a great day, riding, wrenching, riding, kicking and laughing at each other.

The Carolinas’

Finally, seven hours and some change into our four hour ride, we arrived at the Frog Level Club House in Ayden, NC to a hero’s welcome. Everyone wondered where the hell we had been all day and got a good laugh out of our adventure. Farm Boy had another headlight for Angel, and I promised my panhead I would let it rest for a bit. We all snagged some good eats and a couple drinks. Farm Boy gathered everyone up on the porch of the clubhouse for the day’s awards. Honestly, I figured they had done the awards two hours prior to our arrival, and I was just happy to snag some grub and hang out! The Frog Level boys had whipped up some cool ass trophies for the hardtail chopper challenge and Shaun from Deadman Custom Works tossed in some KD’s for the suspension class.

Paul won the first place trophy and a handful of cash in the chopper class, he was running a modern motorcycle with struts on it and beat us by a handful of hours. As unbelievable as it is, I got second place and Angel placed third. Mike, Danny and Rob placed in the suspension class respectively. Once the formal awards were done with, the party resumed. We had a hell of a good time hanging out at the club house and playing some good old fashioned biker games. It wasn’t long until the sun was setting, and the bonfire got lit. Before the sun got all the way down, Rob, Angel and I hit the road to try to knock out some miles, knowing we may have a long ride back. Amazingly, we arrived back home without any more breakdowns or lost parts. I opted to not turn off the panhead for the last 150 miles to avoid any further workouts.

Huge thanks goes out the Farm Boy, Swamp Critter and the rest of the Frog Level boys for putting on one hell of a cool event. It was a real throwback to just ride without a cause other than to see if your machine would make it. Plans were made to attend the next years chopper challenge and hopefully Rob gets his gremlins worked out before we do. In the meanwhile, the Frog Level Pistol Shoot is on June 21st and if you like shooting and riding motorcycles, you should probably attend. Keep your eye on the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for more Frog Level MC events and get out there and ride your bike!

Happy 1st Anniversary

twinS mOtOrCyCle COmpany haS become more than a bike shop in their first year serving folks in the Statesville, NC, area. They are a destination for sales and service, plus more. The last Saturday in March Westside Twins was the place for a ride and hanging out for a while as they celebrated their First Anniversary.

Janette Thornley and Buddy Foss own and run Westside Twins Motorcycle Company. In the past year they have turned a dream location and opportunity into a shop that can help fulfill your motorcycle dreams. I first met Janette and Buddy at the drag strip. She was racing a Pro Fuel Harley and winning. Over the years I learned that she worked for The Harley-Davidson Motor Company in a few different roles. Her riding and business experience is now being shared with her customers.

Lots of folks were there on a big day at the shop for the First Anniversary Party. There was a strong Military Veteran theme for the day supporting One Nation Whole Vet. The American Legion was cooking fresh local burgers and hot dogs. Dani Kerr was plucking her guitar and singing songs we love.

“The event was successful beyond our dreams,” Janette said. “We had great weather, a great ride, terrific vendors, music and best of all we raised over $2,000 for Whole Vet.org.”

“At Westside Twins, we’re not just building a dealership — we’re creating a destination,” Janette said.

“Our five-acre property, conveniently located at the crossroads of Interstate 40 and Interstate 77 in Statesville, North Carolina, is the perfect stop for riders heading in any direction — east to west or north to south. Whether you’re passing through or planning a ride, we want Westside Twins to be a place where you feel welcome to stop, rest and recharge.”

Bike Night Every Thursday Night

“Our future plans include developing the grounds into a true rider’s haven — complete with areas to relax, regroup and connect with other enthusiasts. For those hauling bikes or traveling in groups, we offer ample secured parking and a safe spot to drop a trailer. Whether you stay a few hours or a few days, we want to be your home base for exploring the scenic routes of the Carolinas and beyond.”

“We’re passionate about building community, hosting events and being a trusted part of every journey. Westside Twins is more than just a motorcycle shop — it’s a stop worth making,” Janette said.

I saw displays for Klock Werks, Fat Baggers, Legend Suspension, Rockford Fosgate, Custom Dynamics and more. If you want the latest, coolest parts for your machine, they can get and install them.

Janette and I talked what’s coming in the next year. I’ll tell y’all more about it in a few months, but here’s a peak at her plans. The show room also features parts, accessories and apparel. They have some pre-owned clothing and gear. Get great gear at the best price. Get Janette’s advice on what works best for you.

Westside Twins is just off I-40 Exit 148 on Front Street. They have a large selection of motorcycles at great prices. Stop in and find your next ride. That all black Harley Trike is just what one of you Old Guys needs to stay in the wind. They have some kid size bikes to get them started on two wheels. Westside Twins offers pre-owned motorcycles of all makes in their huge show room. From big engine Harley Baggers to Sportsters and some cool little Benelli import commuter bikes.

Rivertown RC 4TH Annual Memorial Ride

hiS iS a StOry Of brOtherhOOd, lOSS and legaCy. On March 22nd, The Rivertown RC held a memorial ride in honor of those they have lost and to help raise funds for their foundation called the Rubber Side Down. The foundation was started in 2021 after their sister passed away after a motorcycle accident. They originally started the foundation as JuJu’s Memorial Biker Down Fund, but after some careful consideration they renamed it “The Rubber Side Down Foundation”. The foundation helps local motorcyclists and their families in the event they go down. There is such comfort knowing that this foundation is there to help with anything a motorcyclist needs, from paying an electric bill to feeding their family.

This ride started out at Harley at the Beach (North Myrtle Beach) and although the day was very sunny it did start out a bit on the chilly side. It did help that there was warm coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts to get ya energized. Once the almost 150 people were registered and given their door prize tickets, George from “Life is good Motorcycle Ministry” said a prayer and the noise of all the engines revved up. As we pulled out from the dealership the rumble of engines just kept going. We took some very nice back roads and let me tell you the long procession of motorcycles, chrome gleaming in the sunlight made for an awesome sight.

Along the way spectators gathered in their yards or on the side of the road to wave at us all and some took video as it was such an incredible sight. After going about 40 miles or so, we made a stop at a Speedway near Loris SC. This stop was definitely welcome as some needed to take a break, take care of business and grab a cold drink or snack. During the stop The RC gathered us all around to pull tickets for the door prizes. There were quite a few given away which means that our town is very gracious in donating for such a great cause. After the pitstop, we all saddled back up for some more back road riding until we reached the Rivertown RC clubhouse, where we were all welcomed. Cold drinks and some burgers and dogs were waiting for us as most of us were pretty hungry after that 61 mile ride. After eating there were more raffles and 50/50

tickets to be sold then the prizes were awarded.

We have been on several poker runs, memorial rides etc over the years, but I have to say that this ride was one of the most organized and well planned out that we have been part of in a long time. The Enforcers (road captains) did such an amazing job at keeping the group safe at intersections. You could really tell that they have plenty of experience at this and ride together so well. A lot of planning and thought went into this ride. It was very successful, raising almost $3400.

Each rider carried a purpose that day, bound together by more than just the thrill of the open road. The ride wasn’t just about remembering the ones lost, but about a mission! You could feel the brotherhood amongst all of the riders. This really shows when not only riders and their passengers show but people who don’t even ride came out to support.

If you weren’t able to attend the ride that day or maybe just didn’t hear about it, there is always next year’s ride so keep a look out for It on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine’s Cruising Calendar. If you’d like to donate to the foundation, you can do so by using their cash app $RTRC1818 OR Venmo RTRC1818.

A BIG Thank You to the Rivertown RC for hosting this event and we all look forward to the next one. Remember to keep an eye out on the Cruisin’ Calendar for all events. Till the next one, enjoy the freedom to ride and stay safe.

Miles & Miles of Smiles! – Part 5

August 29th – September 2nd New Mexico to North Carolina

HoneyBun and I left the house July 28th and arrived back home September 2nd. We traveled through 19 states and 4 provinces, with a temperature range from as low as 39.2°F to as high as 116.6°F.

Total miles: 7,851.6!

A Trip of a Lifetime!

p and Out early, aS waS Our rOutine, after scarfing down coffee and breakfast at the hotel. What day is it? We were nearing the end of our epic journey; this was the last leg. Now My HoneyBun was considering “time” in his route plan cuz he does have to go back to work. This adventure was not open-ended. Today’s destination: Van Buren, Arkansas, which is 10+ hours without stops. We hit I-40…

FULL THROTTLE!

Tucumcari was our first pitstop, petrol and potty, and maybe a bite if anything was open and “looked good”. What a sad little neglected town, which was mentioned in the film For A Few Dollars More (for all those spaghetti western fans, myself included, starring Clint Eastwood and directed by Sergio Leone, actually shot in Spain). This locale is also known as “the town that’s two blocks wide and two miles long” on old Route 66. We putt-putted through the town then got right back on I-40, nipping through the top bit of Texas, straight through Oklahoma. FYI: I-40 is a major East-West transcontinental Interstate Highway and is the third-longest interstate in the US (it runs from Barstow CA to Wilmington NC), taking 35 years to build, with a cost of over 100 billion. OMG! I can’t even fathom the amount of concrete that it took to build the 2,555 total miles of roadway, never mind the cost of the new project currently underway in North Carolina, widening the existing route. The desert morphed into rolling hills of green grasses and shrubs, with more wind turbines, fields of corn and cattle ranches. We stayed in the fast lane, passing huge truck stops

on both sides of the highway, with truckers, local farmers in their pickups (pulling horse trailers), and the odd motorcycle. As we scooted East, there were more lakes and rivers now, and trees, but still hot and dry, with a notable increase in traffic. The hours passed quickly. At the end of the day, we were tucked in and asleep in no time, in a roadside hotel. The next morning, the rain began around Memphis, on and off, and sometimes quite hard. We sure appreciated those new tires! The thermometer took a dive, and the dampness seeped into our bones. We were still travelling in the fast lane; My Man is a big guy (just the way I like him) so he blocked most of the weather, for which I was extremely grateful. It was the pit stops that got us wet, damned red lights and stop signs. The rain cleared in the Jackson area, but got ugly again in no time, with tornado warnings, so getting off the road became imperative. We high-tailed it to Nashville and parked under the overhang at the hotel entrance. Willow (our 2016 Indian Roadmaster) still got soaked, cuz everything went sideways. We were snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug for two days! No sightseeing for us; most everything shut down, with power outages throughout the city. We left Nashville, with unsettled weather remaining in the forecast, and 7 hours to our front door. This last leg took us from New Mexico, through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee, coming to an end at home in North Carolina.

Home Sweet Home

Highlights of our epic journey: the beauty and serenity of the road, the stunning sites, sunrises and sunsets, visiting fam-

ily and friends, and My Man’s impeccable planning skills. If I had to pick one site as my favorite, it was The Grand Canyon; I was totally wide-eyed and looking over the edge made my knees weak. I’m so glad to have taken thousands of pictures, even though it was a daunting task to shuffle through them later, and catalogue and collate. Every year, the posts and photos pop up on Facebook, taking me down memory lane. This trip, in its entirety, was amazing. I never thought that I would have ever done something like this. HoneyBun came into my life and introduced me to the bitch

pad, for miles and miles of smiles.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-reserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” Hunter S. Thompson

Inaugural Joseph “Joe” Wagner Memorial Run

One

impaCt a COmmunity aS much as my friend Joe Wagner did. He was loud, outgoing, caring, giving…and that was just before lunch. And to have him taken from the community by a hit and run is a senseless loss that many are still trying to wrap their hands and hearts around.

Joe was the Co-Founder of Help Thy Neighbor Johnston County. They are a nonprofit organization that helps those in their own community of Johnston County. I took this next part from their Facebook page so you would have an idea of what HTNJoCo is all about.

“Help Thy Neighbor JOCO” started out in 2018, as a group of friends that loved to ride together coming together for a good cause, to help a family near and dear to our hearts. No expectations, just a lot of love and hope. We loved it so much and it was so rewarding that we decided to an annual run, and we adopted the name “Help Thy Neighbor”. It has only taken off from there. One run after the other, running into friends and other members of Johnston County in dire financial need due to no circumstances of their own, we decided to answer the call. One annual run turned into several runs a year, after another one of ours needed a helping hand. In 2020, we decided to add plate sales to our list and have had huge success in those as well. Each year we have continued to grow, and what started out as a small group of friends to help a lifelong friend, has turned into over 30+ (and growing) amazing people, a community of people wanting nothing only but to help others. We have now adopted the name “Help Thy Neighbor Johnston County” and have turned it into a non-profit organization. This has by far been the most rewarding ride of a lifetime. Every second dedicated to this cause has been more than worth it. Every single drop of blood, sweat, and tears put into this are forgotten once we see the look of gratefulness and tears in the eyes of those we have helped, along with their smiling faces. Our cause has humbled us, and we are always looking for people to join us to help us completing the mission of making

our organization “larger than life” in the fundraising community and our community overall. Keep an eye out for us in 2021, it’s gonna be an amazing ride! And we want you riding with us!

This is what Joe helped to build, along with many friends, some old and some new ones along the way. And he was continuously picking up new friends and riders in his capacity as Service Manager for Bulldog HarleyDavidson in Smithfield, NC.

On October 14, 2024, Joe lost his life at the age of 52. At approximately 2:00am a tractor trailer leaving the Amazon facility in Smithfield on Hwy 70 crossed Joe’s path while he was riding his bike home. Joe struck the trailer portion and was ejected from the bike and died at the scene.

On March 22, 2025, the Inaugural Joseph “Joe” Wagner Memorial Run was held. Leaving from Bulldog Harley-Davidson, I found myself at the rear of a very long line of bikes showing up to remember our brother. By some counts there were over 200 bikes, trikes and side by sides. We left Bulldog and took a nice ride out to Castaways in Clayton. Then on to Aversboro Restaurant & Sports Bar in Garner. And finished the ride at Plan B Bar in Smithfield, Joe’s “home away from home.” Lots of food and friends. Live music courtesy of Dave Schneider, who opened for Automag. Fireball shots were everywhere in Joe’s honor. Lots of love to go around. And burnouts. Because rear tires are there to do burnouts on the back deck of The B, dualling head-to-head, until everyone runs for air.

Often, I will try to include how much was raised for an event like this and exactly where the money is going to help. And I am sure Betsy Lewis would have provided me with that info if I had asked for it. But this time, it just felt right honoring my brother, knowing that Help Thy Neighbor JoCo will do something good for the right person. Until next year Joe, “How ‘Bout Them Cowboys!”

TIM MORTON’S 1981 SHOVELHEAD CHOPPER

im morton knows choppers, he knows the culture and has been a part of the scene since childhood. so, when he starts a new build, he knows where he’s going with it, you could say he builds purpose built choppers, the way they should be built. This 1981 Shovelhead chopper debuted at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Custom Bike Show in Greensboro and captivated the spectators. We had watched it come together on Tim’s IG page and I knew that we would feature it when it was done. The build started with a frame, engine and some other parts from marketplace and with Tim’s vision and some help from his friends and a color scheme from his wife, this killer chopper was born and went on to win awards at some of Daytona’s most prestigious chopper shows.

“Everything is by design, it had to have a 4 speed, had to be a chopper, had to be a hardtail. Some things got added and some things got taken off, but it’s how I envisioned it.” Just because Tim had the vision, doesn’t mean it went smoothly, we are talking about choppers here. He wanted the front end to be clean, so he ditched the front brake, went with a 21” spool hub, spoked front wheel, and an original Harley Springer front end. “I had to have a springer on a chopper, it was a must have. It gave me a fit though.” After a couple attempts the springer was ready and Tim added a set of narrowed $5 swap meet handlebars and small headlight to keep the springer the focus of the front end.

Another element that set this old school chopper apart from the pack was the unique paint scheme. The Antique Bronze, tan and

teal combo looks awesome and is a huge part of the allure of this bike, but it was a controversial color scheme until finished. Tim’s wife is to thank for this killer color combo. She came up with it from a helmet she bought for this build. “No one thought the paint was going to be nice. I didn’t know how good it would look. My wife knew it was going to look terrific.” Tim didn’t know about the helmet but relayed the color scheme to Rodney at Poohbuilt Custom Cycles in Albemarle, NC who did the paint, body work and final assembly. Rodney was skeptical as well but laid the paint as requested. “Rodney did flames and did a great job. I had to have flames on this bike, choppers just have to have flames.” Pinstriping was added later on by Moe in Denton, NC. “I get a lot of compliments about the paint, even though the same people who are taking credit for it are the ones, myself, the painter, everybody, who didn’t want to paint it this color. We didn’t think it was going to work, but my wife stayed true and thanks to her it turned out beautiful.”

The old school design of this bike dictates that it runs an open primary, foot clutch and jockey shift set up. “All this stuff just has to be this way, it’s just chopper stuff. I think it’s a throwback but it’s also a culture. I love the chopper culture. I love the riding something that is dangerous. Ya know, foot clutch, no front brake is dangerous. You have to wanna ride, you have to be smart, and you have to have a little bit of thrill inside of you as well.” All these elements also make for a super clean chopper that shows off the machine without a lot of distractions.

After a full inspection of the bike, Tim pointed out that there is no key or switch to turn on the ignition. Instead, Tim installed a fingerprint scanner hidden, 007 style, on the bike. The bike is so clean and there is so much going on that the missing switch doesn’t get noticed! The chopper is, of course, kick only, but will only function after the scanner reads Tim’s unique fingerprint and turns on the power. Such a cool modern addition to this old school ride. “The bike turned out so nice and the paint and everything going on with how we built it that nobody even noticed that it starts with a fingerprint scanner and that was one of my favorite things!”

Tim took his chopper to Daytona and made his rounds at the big time bike rally chopper shows. Daytona lives for choppers and Tim and his 007 Shovelhead chopper cleaned up, taking home hardware in all the shows it was entered in. “The one show that I really was hoping to get a lot of love for, and I did, was Willie’ Chopper Time. I didn’t expect to win any awards, just hoped to get some compliments.” Tim did win an award and got the much deserved love for this killer build. Keep your eyes out for Tim ripping around town or hanging out at the shows and take a look at this build, the pictures don’t quite do it justice. It was purpose built for the chopper scene and Tim did a great job. He enjoyed it so much, he’s already started his next build!

18th Annual Pink Ribbon Ride

unday april 13th waS the 18th annual raleigh Pink Ribbon Ride benefitting 1ofUs. 1ofUs (formally 1in9) began in 2011 when our Founder, Stephanie Beguelin, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Stephanie wanted to bring awareness to the community by making sure everyone checked in on their “9” because at the time the statistic was 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout her cancer journey at UNC Chapel Hill, she noticed that there were many women stopping or forgoing their treatments because of financial distress. Paying bills and taking care of their families came before their health. The Pink Ribbon Ride was started 18 years ago by Peggy and Roger Canevari. They have been able to give back over $300,000 back to the community and 1ofUs.

Over the past 14 years, 1ofUs has been able to assist 5000+ patients and their families by easing their financial burdens. The organization helps pay rent, bills, transportation to/from treatments, lodging during treatments, car payments and childcare. For 1ofUs to continue our mission throughout all 100 counties of NC, we partner with ECU Health, Duke Health and UNC Health. The amazing nurse navigators and social workers at each of these hospitals use the monies we grant them to reach as many patients as possible in NC.

The 18th Annual Pink Ribbon Ride was presented by Owl’s Roost Brewery in Franklinton, and hosted by Bud’s Tavern in Youngsville, NC. Over 100 bikes and riders participated in our annual ride throughout Franklin, Wake and Granville counties. The weather was perfect. The day included a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, a motorcycle raffle and community sponsorships that lead us to a record-breaking day raising over $26,000 for 1ofUs!!! We have amazing volunteers that came together and worked from morning until late afternoon so the event could be a success.

We want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Owls Roost Brewery, Bud’s Tavern, Gentle Family Dentistry, Duke Raleigh, Osborne Chiropractic of Rolesville, First Bank, Freeman

& Associates, Bridgestone Tires, McDonald’s, Roofwerks, Barringer Construction, Carolina Home Inspection Group, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and so many more of our community partners. Thanks to The Switch donating their time and keeping the crowd rocking. Also, thanks to local police departments and CBA for keeping the ride fun and safe. We can’t wait to do it again next year!!

Know Your Rights!

here haS been a lOt Of talk lately, abOut Our COnstitution and civil liberties. Let’s use this example to show what a grassroots biker’s rights organization does.

As Bikers, most of us know the statistics. Even if we don’t, it only takes a ride to see how dangerous other drivers can be. We all know that every time we get on that bike, it could be our last. And it has nothing to do with our ability.

While we can’t stop crashes from happening, we at the Concerned Bikers Association of North Carolina, have made it our mission, to make roads safer for over 50 years. Our awardwinning, Look Twice NC Program, has taught over 500,000 people, “How to Watch-Out For Bikers!” We have helped to create many laws over the years, just like the Red Light Law. We volunteer to stop anti-rider laws, and to enact pro-rider laws so that you, can continue to do what you love, RIDE!

But in the event of crash, we were searching for ways to protect every biker’s family! Changing criminal code isn’t likely, so we had to focus our efforts on holding people financially accountable. We looked for laws that have been passed in other states. We found Bentley’s Law, which has been passed in 5 states. We are grateful to Representative Clampitt who sponsored our Bentley’s Law. There is a difference to

be sure. Our Bentley’s Law loosely states that if the at-fault driver causes a death of a biker, or a passenger (or a driver) in a crash, and the decedent (the person who died) has minor children, the at-fault person shall be held responsible for child-support and other financial responsibilities. This language vastly differs from than our Bentley’s Law counterpart (passed in those 5 states) because those states require the atfault driver to be convicted of intoxicated manslaughter. NC’s Language does not.

However, for this bill to become law, it needs your support! It is vital you reach out to your representative an ask them to support this bill, House Bill 400.

Go to google (search engine), Search: ‘find my representative’. Here is the link to find your representative; https://www. ncleg.gov/findyourlegislators

This is just part of what we call, our civil liberties. They are the freedoms we hold dear as Americans. The freedom of speech and to gather as group. The right to vote, and to contact our representatives. We all have these civil liberties and many more.

If we don’t like what we see, we have the power to change it. Our Constitution was written with every citizen in mind, in perpetuity (forever). We can take advantage of our civil liberties by using the rights of every American, joining together and making our voices heard! Because you matter!

There is one more way you help protect your family in the event of a crash. That is by checking your under/uninsured motorist coverage. If someone hits you, and they do not have insurance, you may be able to make a claim through this part of your coverage. If you have 100K of under/uninsured coverage, then you can get potentially get 100K. What about 500K? Don’t wait to adjust that. It doesn’t cost much. Rather have it and not use, then need it and not have it.

82 Spokes & Jokes

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

Don’t forget to pick up a bottle of wine for your Mom for Mother’s Day. After all, you are one of the reasons she drinks!

Back when I lived in Tampa I was a member of the local HOG chapter. Our chapter was going to be the host chapter for the Florida state HOG rally. To mark the kickoff, a few of us from the HOG chapter did a ride and dropped off the rally packets in person to every HD dealer in the state. It was a long three day ride, and on some of the longer legs of the ride it was nice to have a little something to snack on. On the rearpart of the seat on the ElectraGlides Harley used to put a set of hand holds. They sucked for the passenger, but if without a passenger they were handy to use as a tiedown point, or a cup holder. Well one guy on the ride figured a small can of pringles would fit in there just fine, and he figured Pringles would make a good snack in the middle of one of the longer legs we were riding that day. So, he popped the top and removed the foil cover, put the top back on and stuck the can in that handle part. He figured he could just reach back pop the plastic top off and get him some Pringles while he was riding. Well when he tried this at highway speeds, the wind caught the Pringles and sucked every one of them right out of the can and into the wind. I was a couple bikes behind him and all I saw were flying Pringles in the air. They look like butterflies fluttering in the breeze. I must have laughed about that for the next 5 miles.

Never kick a skunk in the head when in the lead, unless you have the fastest bike and the most gas.

One of my male patients lived way out

North of town, The wife of my patient only wanted me and one other male nurse attending her husband, the patient. She did not want the pretty young female nurses around her 80 year old husband. Anyway on my day off, I had to go to a meeting downtown with street clothes on. It’s a little after 5 PM and Patients wife called the office she needs some medical supplies. I say, I will take them, I have a brand new Harley softail that I am breaking in still, I’ll get the medical supplies and off I go. Pull up to the house go through the gate, knock on the door, no answer, bang on the door, no answer, check doorknob, locked. Run to the side check windows to see if I can see any bodies on the floor. No cell phone, jump on bike head to nearest 7-11 store get change call from pay phone, This is Mike your nurse, patient “OH MIKE!! OH MIKE” come quick a motorcycle thug is trying to break into the house.” “Oh that’s me! I came to deliver your medical supplies and I am on my new motorcycle. Unlock the door I will be right over.” As I pull up at the house a 2nd time I am surrounded by four Sheriff cars and hand cuffed, tossed in the back seat before my patient could come out and identify me. I told one of the young officers, “I am a nurse, I am a nurse”, and before I said anything else, The officer said yea, and I am “The Lone Ranger”!

What are the 3 positions of a British headlight toggle switch? Off, Dim, and Flicker.

A biker walks into a bar, sits next to a man, and gulps down his entire beer. The man bursts into tears. The biker says, “Geez man, I didn’t mean to make you cry, what’s wrong?” The man says, “Today was the worst day of my life. I was fired from my job, my wife left me and took the kids, my dog died, and just as I put poison in my beer to kill myself, you walked in...

Two guys were roaring down the road on a motorcycle when the driver slowed up and pulled over. His leather jacket had a broken zipper, and he told his friend, “I can’t drive anymore with the air hitting me in the chest like that.” “Just put the jacket on backwards.” His friend advised. They continued down the road but around

the next bend, they lost control and wiped out. A nearby farmer came upon the accident and ran to call the police. They asked him, “Are they showing any signs of life?” “Well,” the farmer explained, “the driver was until I turned his head around the right way!”

95% of all the Harleys ever made are still on the road.....the other 5% made it home.

The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur Davidson, died and went to heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur, “Since your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is that you can hang out in Heaven with anyone you want.” Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, “I want to hang out with God.” So, St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. God recognized Arthur and commented, “You’re the guy that invented the Harley, right?” Arthur said, “Yeah, that’s me...” God commented, “Why would you invent something that’s unstable, makes noise and pollution, and can’t go anywhere without a road?” Arthur was embarrassed but finally spoke. “I beg your pardon, Lord, but aren’t you the inventor of woman?” God said, “I am.” “Well,” said Arthur, “Professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention:

1. There’s too much inconsistency in the front-end protrusion

2. It chatters constantly at high speeds

3. Most of the rear ends are too soft and wobble too much

4. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust

5. And the maintenance costs are outrageous!”

“Hmmmm, you have some good points there...” replied God. “It may be true that my invention is flawed, but according to my calculations, more men are riding my invention than yours!”

Two Harley riders and one Triumph rider were sitting in a bar after a long day’s ride, having some beers. One Harley guy looks up and says to the others, “Look at those old farts over there across from us. That’ll be us in ten years!” His buddy responded, “That is us you idiot, you’re looking in the mirror.”
