Report from Lamesha Ruddock I’m Lamesha Ruddock, a John Snow 2nd-year History student. I’m also a member of the Young Historians Project (YHP) which is a non-profit organisation that promotes history to young people of African and Caribbean heritage. It is always a privilege to be invited to speak for Black History Month (BHM) and I’m grateful to the University of Kent for recently extending this invitation to me. On 26th October 2020, I represented YHP at the online event and presented on YHP as the committed and proactive organisation it is. I explained our projects on the Black Liberation Front and African women in the British health sector. I covered topics on early women (pre NHS), recruitment, discrimination, the colour bar, activism and fostering and then responded to the Q&A. I am also the Events Manager for Durham People of Colour Association and have helped organise events for BHM. Speakers included those on behalf of the Black Curriculum, Henrie Kwushue and Akala. History is extremely important to me and I hope we continue to promote this kind of history in the future.

Congratulations to Jamie Frost We are delighted that one of our 1st Year students, Jamie Frost, who is reading for a degree in Classics, has been appointed to the prestigious role of Leader of Durham University Orchestra Society Symphony Orchestra. This is a marvellous achievement and we are delighted for Jamie and the College. Jamie has been playing the violin since the age of 5 and joined the Royal College of Music Junior Department at the age of 10. In 2018 he won a coveted place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and was thrilled to play with them at the BBC Proms in 2019. Jamie is a highly talented violinist and because of this has won many prizes over the years including the Hugh Bean Prize at the Royal College of Music. He performs a wide repertoire including solo, chamber and orchestral music. We very proud to have Jamie as a member of our College, we wish him well for what promises to be a highly successful musical future.
