JCR President Handover
JCR President Handover 2021
None of us expected to go through what we have this year – it has been unbelievable with all the ups and downs of the restrictions. Yet I can’t believe how much we were still able to achieve, all the events, sports, societies, and charity work that was able to go ahead as we moved through this pandemic. Not only this but we finally moved into our new College site, got The Igloo back and finally settled into Durham. I also don’t know how many online events I’ve had to host this year, but just as a disclaimer, you’ll never see me at a virtual quiz again…

Thank you to everyone who’s been involved in the JCR and those who helped our growing College stay connected over the past year. The Reps, Sports teams and societies along with their Execs have all been incredible. The 2020/21 JCR Committee have had the toughest job keeping everyone engaged – you’ve been amazing and I’m so grateful for all the time and effort you’ve put into Snow this year.
Since joining Snow, I’ve completely changed as a person since – the confidence and skills I’ve gained I would have never achieved unless I pushed myself to get involved in our JCR. Do the same, you never know what you may get out of it.
It’s now time for our new JCR President to take over the reins! Lydia, you are going to be and already have been amazing to work with and I can’t wait to see how Snow will continue to grow in its 20th year.
John Snow, it’s been a pleasure. Keep bleeding blue, always.
Jack
It’s been a year like no other and hopefully one that we will never have to repeat with all the virtual events and social distancing but we will definitely be able to take away the perseverance and resilience we’ve built this year. Jack has been our rock, guiding the JCR through it all and no one could have done a better job than he has. The amount of challenges he’s had to face has been ridiculous but he pulled through them, still smiling, and created another memorable year for all Snow students. Following on from Jack is going to be a hard job to do, you should be so proud of yourself for everything you’ve achieved this year but also for being such a strong foundation for the Committee and keeping us going when we had our moments of being ready to give up. Good luck with whatever direction you choose to take in the future, you are an asset to any team and will be greatly missed.
Moving onto the coming year I’m so excited for what’s to come after having now started my role as JCR President 2021/22. Now we’re finally settled in our new Durham home (no more moving for us!) it’s time to put down our roots and revive our traditions for the incoming students but also for our current students, most of whom have never experienced a full non-covid year at Durham. I’d like to congratulate all of those who have been chosen to be a FREP, WREP or Agent for the new year. I can’t wait to work with the incoming Committee and team, rebuilding Snow’s spirit and planning all of the events and opportunities to come.
See you soon!
