Outreach Report - Benny Edwards, First Year
I set myself the challenge of running 100 miles (161km) in the month of April, in the hopes of raising money for the British Heart Foundation. It I ran just over 5.4km each day for 30 days straight, with no rests.

The British Heart Foundation raises awareness for heart and circulatory diseases, because of this, it is a cause which I feel emotionally attached to: April is the birth month of my Dad, David, who sadly passed away when i was just 11 years old. He underwent a heart transplant, but unfortunately passed away after picking up a post operative infection and being unable to fight back. I wanted to do this, not only in memory of my Dad, but also for everyone else out there who may be suffering with cardiac related issues.
Around 7.6 million people are living with heart and circulatory diseases today. Any donation made to the British Heart Foundation will help further research into the risk factors that cause these heart and circulatory diseases, vital for bringing this upsetting number down.
Overall, through online and offline donations I raised just over £3,000 which I was absolutely overwhelmed and amazed with-so many people got behind me on my journey and it was an amazing and emotional month. Seeing my mum there on the finish line after the 100th mile was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever felt, I would do it all again, and I’m sure I will soon. I know the money I raised will be put to amazing use.
