On Monday, May 26, American Legion Post 98 members gathered to hold their annual Memorial Day program. Commander Scott Anderson called the event, to order followed by the advance of the colors by the Post 98 Color Guard. Madelyn Crump sang the National Anthem followed by an invocation given by the Post 98 Chaplin.
The program saw a guest speaker this year, Sgt. Richie Delgato, who shared his thoughts and feelings concerning Memorial Day, highlighting the efforts
given by military members who are no longer with us. At the conclusion of the program, Post 98 members placed flags on crosses outside the front of the Legion building in remembrance of recently deceased Cavalier County Veterans. Those who had fallen were saluted by the Color Guard, followed by the Taps and the Retiring of the Colors. From The Borderland Press, thank you to all who have served, and given the ultimate sacrifice.

The turn-key business has been sold to Carol Castleberry, who is giving the local favorite a fresh name and fresh energy: Nature’s Best Berries and Blooms. Castleberry, a fourth-generation descendant of the Walhalla area, recently returned to her roots after a 35-year career in dental hygiene. Though she doesn’t have formal experience in horticulture, she grew up working on a farm and always loved tending to flowers.

While Castleberry plans to maintain the charm and quality Nature’s Best is known for, she’s also planting seeds for growth. The rebranded Berries and Blooms will eventually feature products made from her family’s aronia berry farm, including juices and botanical pain relievers crafted with natural ingredients like chamomile and arnica. She also hopes to give local crafters and makers a space to showcase their handmade goods.
A new social media presence is in the works, but for now, you can reach Nature’s Best Berries and Blooms the old-fashioned way—by phone at 701549-3611. The greenhouse is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. With deep community roots and a vision full of color and creativity, Nature’s Best Berries and Blooms is ready to blossom into its next chapter.
