News: Farmers should assess corn and soybeans for frost and freeze damage, Pg. A3

By Hilary Nowatzki Despite having a rare brain tumor, a young lady from Edmore isn’t letting that stop her from living her life to the fullest. Jiry Rosecrans' condition has led to many health complications, limiting her ability to experience life and activities “like a normal person,” the 20-year-old stated. Throughout last weekend, however, she was able to do just that - live like a ‘normal person.’ “It felt like nothing was wrong with me,” Jiry said with gratitude in her voice. “I felt like a normal person; they didn't judge me for my medical issues.”

Thanks to a North Dakota Foundation, Jiry was able to check one item off of her bucket list - a hunting trip to Medora - where she shot her first antelope. The 13.5 animal was shot from 140 yards using assistive equipment for Jiry. Lifestyle: Does an apple a day really keep the doctor away? Pg. A7

Region: Pembina County 4-Hers recognized across North Dakota for embracing healthy habits, Pg. A10

Hitting Main Street bright and early Saturday morning, giant pumpkins and other giant vegetables will be on display, competing for the heaviest weight. As an official Great Pumpkin Commonwealth weigh-off site, the stakes are high, with over $2,500 up for grabs in prize money. Attendees can enjoy music by Dean Willits Productions and various food trucks such as Billy’s Legendary BBQ, Crave ‘N It, Hank’s Ice Cream, Lil Bitty Donuts, and Ma’s Cook Car. Vendors will be on display with a variety of goods, including baked goods, jewelry, boutique clothing, and much more.

The Walhalla Chamber will also be hosting its third annual Corn Hole Tournament. Participants can register for $20 per person with a blind draw for teams. Trophies will be awarded for first through third place finishers, along with a 100% cash payback. Kent Carrier will be giving a presentation on the process of growing giant vegetables and what makes them so special. “We are excited to showcase a few new food trucks this year. We changed things up this year with our pageant; we decided to have the pageant Sept. 21 in hopes of giving the girls more time to represent their titles at Pumpkinfest and help the day run a little smoother,” said Rebecca Davis, executive director of the Walhalla Chamber of Commerce. “We have a few new vendors this year, so that is exciting. We hope everyone will come join

us and then stay and help support the Swimming Pool Auction.” Following Pumpkinfest at 2 p.m., the Walhalla Swimming Pool Committee will be hosting an auction on Main Street to continue to raise funds for a new swimming pool. Tom Moore will be serving as the auctioneer, generously donating his time and talent for the occasion. According to committee member Cheryl Trupe, they are still looking for donations. Photos of items to be donated can be texted to Joy Zaharia at 701-818-9398. For questions, contact Trupe at 701382-9227. Large items that are donated but do not sell at the auction will need to be picked up by the owners, as the committee does not have a place to store them. The auction will end at approximately 5 p.m. Finding much success last year, the
