BELLBUOY

We have come through another difficult year but are beginning to see much improvement in activity at the Club. Winter visitors are returning, although not in the numbers we have been used to over the years, special events are much better attended and we are hosting many more private functions We are acquiring a good reputation in this market; a market whose potential we wish to develop
As many of you will remember, Lindon Lovell left us in January to take up a post in St Lucia Finding a replacement was not easy and it took us until April when we welcomed Wayde Clarke as General Manager. Managing the competing interests of a private members club is not easy but Wayde has risen admirably to the challenge and is now an effective member of the management team.
Planning for the annual Barbados Sailing Week is now underway The Barbados Cruising Club takes the lead on this event, assisted by the Yacht Club, the Barbados Sailing Association and other organizations involved in water sports. Registration takes place at the Cruising Club on Monday, 16th January, 2023 and the first offshore races are on Wednesday, 18th January. The “Around the Island Race” is traditionally held on Errol Barrow Day, 21st January which in 2023
is a Saturday. More details are available on www.roundbarbados.com
We are also beginning to plan our centenary celebrations for 2024, which seems a long way off but we have much to do and we will look at the whole of 2024 as our “Centenary Year”. I have set up a committee to oversee the entire process and a series of working groups to plan and implement the different activities We already have many ideas but suggestions from all members will be welcome
Our AGM will be on Monday, 19th December 2022. Our rules require two committee members to retire each year This year S. Darrin White and Simone Pasmore will retire. Darrin has done a great job as Chair of the Boating Committee and Simone has provided an excellent entertainment programme as Chairwoman of the Entertainment Committee. I am sorry to lose both of them but must welcome two new committee members (elect), Jonathon Still and Keithan Laurie I thank all committee members for their support over the past year.
I would also like to thank all those members who have given me such encouragement and support since I became Commodore in December 2021 I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year.
