Fellow members,
The Easter has passed and with it, the traditional end of our Winter season. The majority of our “snowbird” members have departed for their homeland. We thank them for spending their vacation with us and wish them a safe and happy summer season. We look forward to seeing them again later in the year
We will be taking the opportunity to action works that had to be postponed as a result of our hectic Winter season during this, traditionally slower, summer season We will be providing you with regular updates to our plans in the General Manager’s weekly updates so please stay tuned to that update e-mail.
We are also looking at the critical areas of staffing that we expect to improve our service to you, our members, and your guests, and we hope to have these in place and settled by the time the activity at the Club gets hectic again.
As we all know, we are rapidly approaching the Hurricane season for 2025. It was not that long ago, or so it seems to me, that we were impacted on by the earliest of Hurricanes, one by the name of Beryl. We appreciate any assistance that you can provide in helping us to reduce the number of activities that are required to make the Club safe in those last 24 to 48 hours (if we have that much time) before a system impacts us (hopefully none this year).
We will do our best to keep the Club open for you for as long as we can but we also have to remember that, once a system is approaching, our staff also have to deal with their families and personal possessions.
Finally, please remember to check your boats and yachts for water settlement on the inside and keep them dry so that the mosquitoes have no place to breed.
Thank you for listening.
I remain,
Yours’ Respectfully,

The highlight of the tennis calendar this past month was the final of the 2025 Interclub Tennis Tournament, played between Yacht Club and Tennis Centre at the National Tennis Centre in Wildey on Saturday 5th April.
BYC competed well, away from home, but fell just short by a final score of 46-42. The female team MVP accolade was shared between Donna Gibbs and Kristina Evelyn.

Jason Small was the MVP among BYC's men.

Outside of interclub, tennis activities at the club this past month included an Easter Tennis Camp, coached by national coach Damien Applewhaite of Advantage Tennis Services. The Camp was well subscribed during the week of the 7th-11th of April.
Going forward, over the next few months, we are hoping to add a couple of social events to tennis calendar so stay tuned for updates

Thank you to all members who came out to watch and support BYC throughout the competition. A special thanks to Peter Marshall for photos.

Dr. A.W. Trieloff Sailing Scholarship
The objective of the Dr. A.W. Trieloff Sailing Scholarship is to provide youth with an opportunity to live their passion for sailing, develop expertise as sailors and learn valuable life-skills in teamwork, communication and personal accountability. The first recipient of the scholarship is Cayden Carter Mullin, nephew of Rebecka Carter. Cayden has completed the Barbados Sailing Association Christmas Camp, the Saturday Afternoon Sailing Series and is participating in Easter Camp. According to his instructor, Peter “Wipers” Hoad: “Cayden is a pleasure to teach. He is an enthusiastic and helpful student. He is progressing well and managing to sail with efficiency in Carlisle Bay.”

The Scholarship is currently open to youth family members of Barbados Yacht Club staff who wish to participate in Barbados Sailing Association camps. Please contact Barbara Trieloff-Deane for

HR & Member Services Sub-Committee Chair
Dear Members,
The Member Services Committee is actively exploring upgrades to the Children’s Play Area and has met with a group of interested persons to discuss plans in that regard. The existing structures are set to be refurbished in the short term with a longer-term plan to change the structures overall which will be stronger, more serviceable and will reflect the Club’s theme. The new structures being explored will seek to be set up with the Club’s existing environment with a focus on shade. The Club will be making contact with suppliers to get costing in line with the suggested ideas. Members are invited to contribute their ideas to our General Manager Ms. Alix James at gmbyc@barbadosyachtclub.com who is leading the charge on this. Thank you to those members who have already been meeting and contributing their time and energy to these plans
