Fellow Members,

I start this month’s column with the news of the resignation of Ms. Latisha Moore, our Finance & Administration Manager. Latisha, who has been with the Club for more than 5 years, will be leaving us on October 31st. We take this opportunity to wish her every success in her new endeavours. She will be missed dearly

We are also pleased to announce that the process for the recruitment of the new General Manager is progressing well. The interviews have started, and as of the time of the writing of this column, the second set of interviews for the short-listed candidates is being arranged.

In the interim period between the recruitment of the new General Manager and the departure of Ms. Moore, former Commodore Mr. Christopher Skinner has agreed to act in the role of General Manager. Mr Skinner brings a wealth of experience to the position having managed his own company for decades, and as a former Commodore, is no stranger to the Club. Please offer him your fullest support as we work towards a stabilization programme for the operations of the Club.

I want to turn my attention to Rule 17)b). This rule sets out the Privileges of Membership and identifies the right of introduction for children and grandchildren to the Club.

Please note that, as per the Rule, “ ... this privilege shall not apply to children and grandchildren over the age of 18 years unless they are receiving full-time tuition at School, College or University, provided always that the member shall have previously notified The General Manager in writing and the consent of the committee shall have been obtained.” It goes on to speak of the notification by name of the children and grandchildren who are entitled under this rule.

The Committee notes that this rule is not always being observed and asks that nonconforming persons please regularize their status or that of the status of non-conforming dependents where necessary.

Please note as well that, while Companies

Commodore Peter Thompson

may have an account with the Club, this does not allow for non-members to utilize the Club’s facilities because of their affiliation with the Company.

As we come to the end of October would like to say a few words on Breast Cancer. As you are all aware Breast Cancer accounts for one of the largest causes of death, not only on the island, but regionally and internationally. I want to encourage all women to have regular examinations. Men, you too can be affected by Breast Cancer, even though the odds are not as great as women. So please be aware of your bodies and any changes that are occurring Improved technology has allowed us to be able to detect cancers earlier and to be able to treat cancer better than even 15 years ago. For those survivors of Breast Cancer, I say congratulations and I wish you every success towards a full, healthy and happy life. To those who have lost loved ones to this dreaded disease, we think of you and the families of those persons at this time.

Finally, I end on a very sad note. Ms. Cheri Larrier, one of our long-standing employees who has been faithful to the Club for approximately 20 years, has passed after a long illness.

Cheri was familiar to all of us who dined in the Ballroom at lunchtime Cheri, who worked alongside Ricky, was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that members and their guests had the best dining experience possible.

I fondly remember her beautiful smile, pleasant personality and caring demeanour whenever I entered the Ballroom for lunch or passed her in any other area of the Club. She was truly one whose love and respect for, and dedication to the Club was unquestionable

On behalf of the Trustees, Committee and staff I take this opportunity to offer my deepest and sincerest condolences to the family of the late Cheri Larrier May she rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.
