BELLBUOY

We had a lot of activities at the Club in February and, yes, at times this pushed our capacity to its limits We did buy a number of additional tables and sun loungers which were all heavily used. I should here thank the staff who did a good job in frequently very difficult circumstances.
Apart from our social events, such as the Opera by Moonlight and the Last Friday entertainment by the Bay Street Jazz Ensemble, we hosted the Little Man Dinghy Regatta on the 5th February, sponsored by Harris Paints and The Stansfeld Scott Offshore Regatta on the 19th February The Lucky Horseshoe Sailing Regatta takes place on the 19th March. In March we are hosting some of the matches in the Inter-Club Tennis Tournament. The next match at the Club is on the 18th March. Please come out and support these events, participants do appreciate members coming along as spectators.
We have just entered into two reciprocal agreements with the Forest and Stream Club in Montreal and the Oakville Club in Ontario. We also had an exchange of burgees with the Royal London Yacht Club and the Grand Traverse Yacht Club. The General Manager and two visitors, Andrew Hope and David Nickerson have sorted out and tidied up the burgee display in the Shot Hall. It looks so much better and many thanks to Andrew and David for willingly offering their time to assist with this exercise.
We are seeing a return of the Sargassum seaweed along the beaches. Fortunately, and so far, we have not had much of it wash up on our beach However, members are reporting seeing a number of jellyfish (“the Four Eyes”) in the sea. Not much we can do about either of these nuisances but please be aware We will try and keep the beach as clear of the Sargassum as we can. The jellyfish are beyond our control but are not dangerous
Our Extraordinary General Meeting is being held on the 30th March. The notice of the meeting and the agenda is posted on the notice boards and have been circulated to members by email. The audited accounts and proxy forms for voting are being circulated this week
Dr. Isobella Parkinson Commodore - The Barbados Yacht Clubbecame foredeck crew on Charles Packer’s Angelique 1 and Angelique 11. The next move was a partnership with Jackie Hoad, Charles Packer & Jullian Gill to buy the Beneteau ten meter, Blazin, and sail it successfully in many Caribbean regattas.
Peter served as Vice Commodore, and on the Food & Beverage and Entertainment committees. He was instrumental in getting the Mount Gay Annual Regatta going at the BYC and was an essential part of the team that, on the behest of the BTA, traveled to La Rochelle in France, Denmark and Montreal, Canada making presentations to various international bodies to promote Barbados as avenue for International Dinghy Sailing.
In December, 2022, Dick Stoute, Andrew P. Hutchinson and Peter Marshall were selected to serve as Trustees of The Barbados Yacht Club along with Charles F. Packer, MBA, following the resignation of Peter R. P. Evelyn, K.C., Jack Hoad and Harold E. Tryhane.
In this month's Issue, we feature Peter Marshall.
Peter joined the Club in December 1974 and began sailing in a Mirror Dinghy he owned jointly with Julian Gill before moving up to King Fish and then Fireball. Moving to offshore racing, Peter
Their efforts brought the International Fireball Class to Barbados in 2010, the International 505 Worlds SAP Regatta in 2013. The GP14 Masters in 2016, and the International Finn and OK Dinghy championships in 2017. Peter’s presentations featured the Barbados Yacht Club prominently and ensured that it became the home of these regattas
After retiring, Peter focused on photography and supplies photographs of all major Club activities for the Bellbuoy, the Annual Report and the Club’s Facebook page.
We take this opportunity to thank Peter for accepting this opportunity to serve.
