The Baltic Guide wanted to try Platz’s Tallinn Menu 2011. In case you do not know, the Tallinn Menu 2011 aims to show Tallinn visitors that Estonian food is much more complex than just meat and potatoes. With over 20 participating restaurants, each
was the ultimate comfort food for a chilly Tallinn night. The apple-cranberry cake with calvados ice cream was reminiscent of my grandmother’s apple cake. The ice cream took this classic cake to the next level. While I was satisfied with Platz’s Tallinn Menu in the end, I would suggest trying some of the other dishes on the menu. The deer terrine with apple-cranberry jam and roasted bread was

Platz’s Tallinn Menu features Estonian flavours like sea buckthorn (a little sour orange berry), Põltsamaa mustard, apples and cranberries. The whitefish fillet with roasted beetroot and sea buckthorn jelly, had all the elements of a very interesting dish, but unfortunately came to the table unseasoned. The main course and dessert made up for the disappointing starter. The pork belly with barley, warm cabbage salad and Põltsamaa mustard

The Baltic Guide testade restaurang Platz’s Tallinn Menu 2011.

Francesco Sibio Ristorante offers Italian favourites as well as exotic delicacies. Chef Francesco Sibio has worked in Tallinn for many years. Originally from Italy, he has now opened his own restaurant on the top floor of the Solaris shopping centre. Upon entering, the visitor is greeted with the carefully thought out interior and fast, friendly service. The menu is long, but your attention is immediately drawn to the wide selection of seafood. The menu also offers lamb, duck, rabbit and quail, along with goose
liver paté and dishes prepared with truffle. International accompaniments can be found alongside traditional Italian dishes. Of the more expensive and more interesting dishes, is the marbled Japanese beef tenderloin, which is considered the best in the world: Wagyu KOBE for 135. The wine list is long and extensive. Glasses of wine start at 7, but you can also splurge on a more expensive bottle for 999. "Is everything always available?" I asked the waiter. "Yes," he confirmed. The assorted Italian cured meat platter is delightful both in terms of flavour and presentation. The
famous T-bone steak from Florence, la Fiorentina is marinated in herbs and pink peppercorns, giving it a nice fresh flavour. Their hot chocolate was one of the best in Tallinn. The restaurant's prices are on the more expensive side, but with careful reading it is possible to find less expensive dishes as well. Mineral water, a selection of cured meats, steak and hot chocolate came to 59.50. ■
