The Gates of Kiev tells the extraordinary story of Russian pianist Maria Yudina - protestor, wit, dissident and muse to Shostakovich, Pasternak and Stalin. One of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, Maria sacrificed her career to politics, publicly denouncing Stalin and Russian authoritarianism. No one knew how she survived.

The cast includes very special guests GALA CHISTIAKOVA and XANDER PARISH – a unique opportunity for Windsor audiences to enjoy the work of two leading international stars of classical music and ballet.
Pianist GALA CHISTIAKOVA was born in Moscow into a musical family and started her piano studies at the age of three. She graduated from Moscow’s renowned Central Music School in 2005, and from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory postgraduate course in 2012. Since 2000, she has played solo and with symphonic orchestras in concerts throughout the world, and has been a prize winner in more than thirty major international piano Competitions. She now lives in Italy. The play features Gala recreating Maria Yudina’s extraordinary repertoire live on stage, including her legendarily furious rendition of Mussorgsky’s The Gates of Kiev - a thrilling showpiece for virtuoso pianists.
Trained at the Royal Ballet School, XANDER PARISH performed with the Royal Ballet for five years before joining the legendary Mariinsky Ballet in St Petersburg in 2010, where he became principal dancer in 2017. In 2022, he relocated to Norway, joining the Norwegian National Ballet. He was awarded an OBE in 2019 for his contributions to dance and UK-Russia cultural relations, and his numerous international awards include the UK’s Critics Circle National Dance Award for Outstanding Male Performance (Classical). Xander’s breathtaking dance skills are woven into this gripping story by Northern Ballet’s Resident Choreographer, Kenneth Tindall.

LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) are one of the UK’s oldest and most respected awarding bodies, and their examinations help to build self-confidence and performance skills by working towards qualifications.
A LAMDA examination is the speech and drama equivalent of a music grade, which begin at basic levels and culminates at Grade 8 (Gold Medal). With our LAMDA classes, students will work towards these exams – building their confidence and acting skills along the way!

Our tour takes you through a history of the theatre, taking in views from different parts of our stunning auditorium and beautiful Grade II listed building.
Head backstage and follow in the footsteps of the stars, treading the boards of our famous stage*.
Learn more about Theatre Royal Windsor’s starring role as a film location too, with films such as the recent adaptation of Hamlet - starring Sir Ian McKellen, and the soon-to-be-released The Critic (amongst others), all shot on location at the Theatre.
With centuries of history, hear from our expert tour guides about the stars who have graced our stage, see the inside workings of theatre up-close and you might even hear a few stories about the mischievous spirits that are said to inhabit the building!
BOOKING INFORMATION
Tours are available at midday on Thursdays and Saturdays only, subject to rehearsal and performance schedules.
The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and costs £12.50/person.

Please note, the tour involves quite a few stairs and includes the many different levels of the building. Lift facilities are not available.

LAUGH OUT LOUD HILARITY WITH THIS PLAY WITHIN A PLAY!
Middle Ground Theatre Company Ltd is delighted to present the World Stage Premiere of Dial M For Mayhem, a brand new charming farcical comedy drama from the author and director of the hugely successful courtroom phenomenon The Verdict.
Set in 1991, it follows of a group of travelling actors from south of the Scottish border as they conquer the beautiful unforgiving landscape of the Highlands and Islands village hall circuit to perform Frederick Knott’s classic 1950’s thriller Dial M For Murder.
Set against a backdrop of the unpredictable Scottish weather complete with internal company squabbling, the scene is gleefully set for back stage chaos and laugh-out loud hilarity of the play within the play!
