Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Synopsis Adapted by Christopher Hampton from the 1782 novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, this is the story of the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, two rivals (and ex-lovers) who use seduction as a weapon to humiliate and degrade others, all the while enjoying their cruel games and boasting about their manipulative talents. The Marquise de Merteuil has a plan to get revenge on an old ex lover (Monsieur de Gercourt) who intends to marry Cecile de Volanges, a young girl fresh from the convent. Merteuil recruits the Vicomte de Valmont to carry out her revenge. Meanwhile, Valmont has his own plan to seduce the virtuous (and married) Madame de Tourvel but he may not be ready for the effect she will have on him.
