ANOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

The stories you are about to see are fluff, and that is what makes them important.

In Mr. Burns, our fall show from last season, Quincy says, “Meaning is everywhere. We get Meaning for free, whether we like it or not. Meaningless Entertainment, on the other hand, is actually really hard.” People come to the theatre for a lot of things; revolution, catharsis, class credit, but we lose something if we don’t allow one of the reasons to see a play to be…play. We should take time to be silly, or mysterious, or nonsensical! Not to teach us something about the world, but because it’s fun to be those things. We are told by society we must grow up and put foolish things aside and be Serious, because the world is Serious. Nothing can operate at full capacity all the time. Especially not people. We must take the time the world refuses to give us to be free from meaning or there will be nothing left when we turn to face the seriousness of the world. We need a steam valve for the emotions so they can be used to change things for the better instead of destroying us.

Aw, nuts….I think I just made this play about revolution, and catharsis, and class credit. So, I’ll leave you with an important question to ponder: What is Brown and Sticky?

P.S. It’s a stick.
